Popular Rock Music Of The 90s - The Songs That Defined A Decade
2008-08-31 23:31:00
Rizzo Music is back with a new article from the "Popular Music of the 90s" series. Last week I made a list of some of the best pop music of the decade and today I am going to share with you my list for the most popular rock music of the 90s. Out of all the lists and playlists I have created in the past, this was by far the hardest to come up with. There are so many great artists and songs that originated in the 9os and deciding on just 5 songs for every year was tough. I tried to get representation out of all the key rock artists and hopefully I didn't forget anyone. After much debate I was able to compile this list. There are so many songs that I really like that could not be included due restrictions on space but there are 50 great singles here for your enjoyment. How it works:For each genre of music I will rank the top 5 singles from each year in the 90s. I will provide a link for each song (either imeem or youtube, depending on availability) for your listening pleasure.Disclaimer...

Popular Music Of The 90s - The Hits That You'll Never Forget
2008-08-29 00:12:00
Remember when you could turn on the radio and actually find some decent music? That is what I miss the most about the 90s. Whether you liked rock, pop, or rap, the 90s provided your fix for your particular tastes. Although my tastes tend to lean towards the post-grunge music I grew up on, there was no denying some of the great songs that came out of the decade.I thought it was time to switch it up and bring to you a new kind of article. Within in the next few weeks I am going to present to you guys my favorite 90s songs seperated by genres. I thought I would start off with pop since its pretty general, and well, popular. I will get to strictly rock and rap and many other sub-genres in the future. Feel free to offer your suggestions. These articles will rank the top 5 singles from each year in the 90s. I will provide a link for each song (either imeem or youtube, depending on availiability) for your listening pleasure. These rankings are based on my personal preferences, not on actual ...

One Big City, Two Legendary Bands
2008-08-18 02:21:00
After a two month hiatus, RizzoMusic is back and better than ever. In the coming weeks, I am going to set up a schedule for posting and I am finally going to stick to it. We are finally receiving some steady traffic and I am sure everyone would appreciate some more consistency in the frequency of posts. Expect to see more of the very popular ?Top Ten? playlists, music reviews, a continuation of the countdown of the Top 100 Songs of the 1990s and more music news. I am glad to be back and today I have something to report back from my summer travels. This summer I spent some time in the Big Apple, New York City . Over two months, and I only managed to get to one concert. Luckily for me it was a great one. I saw Collective Soul and Live play at the Hammerstein Ballroom on July 30th. This wouldn?t be the first time I?ve seen these bands live, but it was surely a concert I would never forget.Fortunately for me, I was able to go for free. 90s Music Playlist - A Variety of Hits
2008-05-25 21:49:00
It has been a long time since I made a playlist so I decided what better way to make a playlist then to have one with a litte variety. 90s music is a topic that covers all genres and hopefully I got a good sample of the 1990s in this playlist. This playlist doesn't feature any hits that were that big in the 90s but does offer some pretty good songs and a couple of my favorites. No matter what type of music you enjoy, this should take you down memory lane, as there is sure to be at least one song you recognize. I hope you enjoy this selection of 90s music and be sure to tell me what you think of it. Feel free to check out my other playlists at the bottom of the post and I'll see you next time.90s Music Random Shuffle Playlist 1. "Pardon Me" by Incubus2. "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" by Spin Doctors3. "Interglatic" by Beastie Boys4. "A Sorta Fairytale" by Tori Amos5. "I'm Going Home" by Hootie &eat; The Blowfish6. "Pony" by Ginuwine7. Coldplay's New Single: "Violet Hill"
2008-05-04 18:12:00
With the new album, "Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends" set to be released June 17th, 2008, Coldplay has announced it's first single, "Violet Hill ". It is available on Coldplay.com as a free download for 2 more days till May 6 when it will be officially released and made available for download on Itunes. It was first made available for free download on April 29th and in the first 24 hours it was downloaded a remarkable 600,000 times. Chris Martin, lead singer of Coldplay, has been quoted as saying that the new single has a "chalky, pastel feeling" that reminds him of his childhood. I wouldn't say that the new single is my favorite single by Coldplay but it is definitely growing on me. "Violet Hill" features a fairly simplistic yet catchy guitar solo that is by far my favorite part of the song."Violet Hill" has me intrigued if the new album will be as good as Coldplay's previous. It looks like they peaked with their sophomore album, "Rush of the Blood to the Head" as far a...

Song #92: "Don't Go Away" by Oasis
2008-05-01 01:54:00
After a fairly long hiatus, RizzoMusic is back with the countdown and one of my personal favorites, "Don't Go Away" by Oasis . "Don't Go Away" is just one song in a string of successful singles that Oasis released in the 1990s. It was the fourth single released off of one of the most highly anticipated albums in music history, "Be Here Now". Although, Oasis' third studio album, sold over eight million copies worldwide, it is considered by many music enthusiasts as a disappointment and none of the tracks from the album are included on Oasis' best-of album, "Stop The Clocks". "Don't Go Away" is just one of my favorites from a album full of some great songs, a song that features some of Liam's best vocals.Oasis is really a band that needs no introduction, a band that has sold over 50 million albums worldwide. Releasing three albums that each sold over 7 million copies in one decade is truly remarkable and a testament to the great music that they created. While their album sales of...

Counting Crow's New Album "Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings"
2008-01-24 02:43:00
One of my favorite bands, Counting Crows, is set to release their new album, "Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings" on March 28, 2008. This is the band's first studio album since "Hard Candy" was released back in 2002. It has been about six years in between albums, but the Counting Crows still have a strong following that all began back when they first released "Mr. Jones" in 1993. Adam Duritz had this to say about the new album, "Saturday night is when you sin and Sunday is when you regret. Sinning is often done very loudly, angrily, bitterly, violently." The album is split up in to two halfs, the Saturday night half and the Sunday morning half. The Counting Crows are allowing fans to get a little preview of the new album. They recently released two of their new songs, "1492" and "When I Dream About Michelangelo". You can visit their website countingcrows.com or you can click here to download these songs for free. This is a great treat to loyal fans. Neither of these songs are set to ...

A Look Back At The Best Music of 2007
2008-01-18 04:46:00
We are mid-way through January of the new year and there has been no reflective post from Rizzo Music about the year that was, 2007. It is about time I put an end to this. To be honest I don't listen to the radio as much as I used to so I have fallen into a position where I am sort of "out of the loop" when it comes to popular music these days. I have focused my attention on the efforts of some of my favorite bands, most of which sprouted in the late 90s or at the dawn of the new millennium. These bands include: Third Eye Blind, The Wallflowers, Goo Goo Dolls, Better Than Ezra, etc., most of which I have either mentioned in the past or have written specific articles on.Needless to say though, I have found some quality releases for 2007 that I would like to share with you. Some of which I have already reviewed, some of which I promised I would review and didn't, and some that might have slipped my mind over the span of my several hiatuses from blogging. When looking back, 2007 was a...

Song #93: "The Impression That I Get" by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
2008-01-16 16:43:00
It's back to the countdown of Rizzo Music's Top 100 Song s of the 1990s with "The Impression That I Get" by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones coming in at number 93. Another One Hit Wonder of the 1990s, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones hit it big with their single, "The Impression That I Get". Mixing heavy guitar riffs with the sounds of several different brass instruments is typical of the band, and it fell on welcoming ears in 1997. It hit #1 on the Modern Rock Charts and topped out at #23 on the Hot 100. The band will alway be known for their one hit, "The Impression That I Get" but the success of that song enabled their next two singles, "Royal Oil" and "Rascal King" to crack the Top 10 of the Modern Rock Charts and put ska-punk back on the map, at least for a little while. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones are a ska-punk band from Boston, Massachusetts. They have released seven albums since forming in 1985, "Lets Face It" being the only one that reached mainstream success. If you are a fan of J...

Top Ten Songs You Should Know: 90s Grunge Hits (Week 23)
2008-01-14 15:33:00
It's Monday again, and it is time for another playlist. It is hard to believe that we are 22 weeks in to this ongoing set of posts and I haven't had a themed playlist on grunge music. This is not going to feature the most popular grunge music of the decade but more the foot tapping, head nodding, personal favorites of mine. Just pure flannel shirt Seattle grunge music at it's finest. I think I might be hard pressed to find ten different pure grunge artists for this list so I am going to break the rules a little bit for this one, and allow myself to include multiple songs from the same artist. Like the blog? Rock out to the playlists? Enjoy the countdown? Don't forget to sign up for an rss feed! Don't forget to leave a comment, I would love to hear from you. Song #94: "Greedy Fly" by Bush
2008-01-14 05:56:00
Next up on the countdown is Bush with "Greedy Fly" coming in at #94. "Greedy Fly" is not as famous as some of Bush's other songs but did do very well on the charts. The second single off of their sophomore album, "Razorblade Suitcase", "Greedy Fly" topped out at #3 on the Modern Rock Charts and #22 on the Hot 100. It was the follow up to their most successful single to date, "Swallowed", in terms of position on the charts. These two singles bolstered the album and "Razorblade Suitcase" was able to reach #1 on Billboard's Top 200 albums. In terms of sales, it fell short of their debut album, "Sixteen Stone", but nevertheless went triple platinum.Bush is a British alternative rock band that was intensely popular in the 90s. Their first four albums reached platinum status, and they had three #1 singles on the Modern Rock Charts. Their fifth and final album was "Golden State" which was their least successful album to date. That was released in 2001 and soon after Bush disbanded. Lead...

Rizzo Music continues with the countdown of the Top 100 Song s of the 1990s, with "Found Out About You" by Gin Blossoms. A radio friendly hit with mass appeal, "Found Out About You" was Gin Blossoms fourth single off of "New Miserable Experience". Though this was the only single to hit #1 on the Modern Rock Charts, they released 5 singles off of their sophomore album, all which cracked the Top 40 on the Mainstream Rock Chart. "Found Out About You", which was released in 1994, may not be their most popular or famous song to date but was one of those songs that defined their sound as a band.Gin Blossoms is a jangle pop alternative rock band from Tempe, Arizona. Today we continue with the countdown of the Top Song s of the 1990s with number 96, "Down" by 311. "Down" was released in 1996 and was the first single from 311 with widespread mainstream success. With heavy guitar riffs and rap style lyrics, 311's "Down" grabbed a lot of attention. Coming off their self-title (blue) album, "Down" stayed at #1 on the modern rock charts for 4 weeks and topped out on the Hot 100 at #37. With the help of "All Mixed Up", the blue album went on to sell over three million copies. 311 is alternative rock back from Omaha, Nebraska. With their rebel style and mix of several different styles of music, they were able to maintain continued success over the years. They have released five albums since the blue album and have charted fourteen more singles on the modern rock charts as well as another #1 hit in "Love Song". They seem like they are constantly touring around the US and are known as a great live band. They are planning a spring tour scheduled for this ...

2008-01-08 03:06:00
It is finally time to get back to the theme of releasing a new playlist every Monday. Before we get to this list, I would first like to thank all those that have been commenting on my recent posts and those that have signed up for my feed. If you haven't done so yet, it's not hard. Just click on the subscribe in a reader link on the top right of this page or enter your email address if you want my posts to be emailed to you directly. I love to hear feedback so don't hesitate to write a response. Rizzo Music has recently significantly increased it's traffic as well as subscriber base and we want to make sure that this trend continues. Now to this week's playlist. If you have been following my posts recently you might have seen in my Top 100 Songs of the 90's that I have decided to disqualify rap music from the countdown.
