VIDEO 4 PACK: RADIOHEAD WEBCAST...
2007-11-10 15:20:00
There appears to be a lot of activity going on over at Radiohead .tv [here] the last few days. We've seen cover's of Bjork's 'Unravel', New Order's 'Ceremony' and a whole host of other truely weird shit! An absolute highlight of mine has to be that of the short film for '15 Steps', edited out of the end scene from the movie 'Seven' - its truely hilarious! See the video 4 pack below for highlights.

RUBY THROAT...
2007-11-10 01:51:00
Katie Jane Garside is an awesome solo artist in her own right - don't believe me? Then check [here]. More recently she's teamed up with Chris Whittingham to form Ruby Throat and the result is a richly dark, yet beautiful folk sounding band in which hides some seriously great and moving music. I confess whole hearted to being in love with Katie's voice - it has an innocence and a beauty deeply fused in it's warm tones as it swirls and swoons in a sugary sweet melancholy - it sets my spine alive! The debut album is out NOW! But, from what I understand, they're releasing a limited edition run (500 copies), numbered, signed and dated. Check their MySpace for any updates [here].To conclude, I'm loving Ruby Throat a lot right now - this is British music at it's 100% best!MP3: Ruby Throat - Ghost Boy

During my short absence I managed to catch the lovely St.Vincent and The National playing live at Birmingham 's Irish Centre on November 6th. Rather than write a massive review I'll let the pictures below do the talking, there's a lot of them courtesy of Daniel Marsden [here]. ONES TO WATCH: THE DO...
2007-11-09 18:20:00
The Do are Olivia B.Merilahti and Dan Levy, a Parisian/Helsinkian partnership that thrive on the balance between swing & serene to instill a picturesque scene of subtle melodies and distant rhythms while lyrically identifying some sweet grooves. There's a strong retro-lining running through The Do's work and some tracks really take my mind wondering back to the Californian folk filled '60s, yet other times I'm hearing something completely fresh and new! No matter what angle they take on their music - the approach and outcome is all good! They're currently on the move at the moment, touring the UK and France where they'll be appearing at London's Barfly tomorrow night! Check their MySpace for full listings [here].Their debut album 'A Mouthful' is scheduled for release on January 4th, 2008!MP3: The Do - On My ShouldersMP3: The Do - Playground Hustle

Look See Proof will officially release their new single, 'Local Hero' on November 12th, 2007 in the UK. The single will be pushed via Weekender Records [link] and is pretty catchy to say the least. The CD also includes 2 b sides: 'Make Me Someone' & 'Start Again' live from Glastonbury 2007 - you can order the digital version of the 7" [here] and the complete CD [here] or check out the music video for the single below. This is Look See Proof's 3rd single release, which precedes the recent 'Casualty' - it came 23rd in the British indie charts and also received lots of attention from MTV2, who played it regularly on Spanking New Music and Indie Mixtape.MP3: Look See Proof - Start Again

SIGUR ROS: 'HEIM/HVARF' ON MYSPACE...
2007-10-31 01:06:00
Sigur Ros' much hyped 'Heim/Hvarf' is now being streamed in full over at their MySpace [here]. The new album, due for release on November 5th, contains 11 stunning tracks and sounds absolutely amazing! I've been listening over-and-over throughout most of today and am more than impressed with the out come!Sigur Ros have seemingly dominated the blog-o-sphere in the run up to the album release, they showcased their new movie, 'Heima' on both sides of the Atlantic, appeared on NPR where they gave a cringe worthy interview and performed an amazing acoustic set for the BBC's Electric Proms 2007.You can watch the live NPR interview [here], see them performing 'Agaetis Byrjun' as part of their awesome set at this year's Electric Proms [here], watch the trailer for the movie, 'Heima' [here], or pre-order the album [here]. ONES TO WATCH: OLYMPIAN FALL...
2007-10-30 21:15:00
Olympian Fall truly are a dark horse - no results on the Hype Machine [here], nothing on Elbows [here] and hardly a smidgen of luck with the mighty oracle that is Google [here]!In light of this travesty, it seems very little is known but the write up on their Myspace [here], which talks briefly of their recent time recording their debut album in the Welsh valleys. I did indeed search for the LP and was completely unsuccessful! What I do know though, is that Olympian Fall make some awesome music. Influences like My Morning Jacket, Iron & Wine and Band Of Horses immediately spring to mind, but there is still a perfectly preserved British element to it all, one that is both strikingly beautiful and emotive. I also know that they are playing live tonight at London's Dublin Castle, just down the road from Camden!Whatever the story behind the lack of information, its quite clear that we're only seeing the tip of the iceberg here and I think that when Olympian Fall surfaces fully big...

2007-10-30 01:03:00
Ever heard one of them songs that just wont get out of your head once you've listened to it? Well, recently I managed to get hold of Winterkids' latest single, 'Wonderland' and its been doing my nut in ever since - I can't get the bloody thing out of my mind! Its a wee-bit pop orientated in it's dynamics, but I have to confess I'm hoping for big things here - I'm a fan! If you're as hooked as I am now that you've seen the vid, then there's also a nifty little remix of the single over at their Myspace. There's also a few live dates scattered around the UK and Germany - for full listings check their Myspace [here].MP3 : Winterkids - I'm Not Used To YouMP3 : Winterkids - 2 Nights 2 Days

BBC ELECTRIC PROMS: THE HIGHLIGHTS...
2007-10-29 18:05:00
Last week saw the BBC's annual Electric Proms broadcast live on British television. For the lucky masses of the UK, we managed to see the likes of Sigur Ros performing a very special set following the British showcase of their new movie 'Heima', Noel Gallagher joining the Coral on stage for a furious version on 'In The Rain' and Mark Ronson jamming with the BBC concert Orchestra! Wow!I can safely say that this year's Electric Proms has more than exceeded the expectations laid out by '06's grand event. Below is a few of the highlights! Enjoy!Between the 3 mediums of TV, Radio and the Internet there was so much so see and listen too. Bloc Party, Editors, Paul McCartney, Duke Special and New Cassettes - it really was incredible! If you want to listen or watch some of the things that went down then head on over to the BBC Electric Proms website [here] for the full listings and features.I've just done a Google search and there appears to be most of the BBC concerts floating arou...

THE WEEK THAT WAS...
2007-10-29 12:12:00
I don't usually write the the kinds of posts where I summarize and draw a line under the week gone by. However, I felt compelled to in this case, purely because there has been some great stuff going down across the blog-o-sphere over the last 7 days.Over at NPR there are a couple of new concerts available - Spoon, The Ponys and The New Pornographers all played the 9:30 Club in Washington over the course of last week and the streaming audio for all the shows can be found [here].The Daytrotter have also had some interesting appearances - Andrew Bird feat. Dianoga, The Dirty Projectors and Vampire Week end have all recorded an infamous Daytrotter session - find them all [here].New York's Jux label and Juggaknot's DJ Boo are nixing the trick and delivering just the treat this Halloween. Boo compiled a spooked-out party-rockin' mix of the labels' recent underground hits from EL-P, Aesop Rock, Rob Sonic and more. OUT THIS WEEK...
2007-10-29 00:57:00
It seems rather quiet in the UK when it comes to albums this week. There are a few goodies hitting the stores though, most notably, Yeasayer's 'All Hour Cymbals' and The Libertines greatest hits, 'Time for Heroes' - yes, they may have been a great band, but it still bothers me that they only made 2 albums and now they get a greatest hits LP, just buy both the old albums, you'll probably be able to get them for the same price anyway!!! This week we also see Nine Black Alps' 'Love/Hate', as well as, 'All Too Human' by The Flies, 'Come On Primates' by Frog Pocket and Over The Rhine's, 'The Trumpet Child' finally hits this side of the Atlantic. Bishi drops 'A Night At The Circus' on us and The Heavy funk things out with 'Great Vengeance and Furious Fire'.Also worth noting is, Fatal Flying Guilloteens with 'Quantum Fucking: A Fictitious True Life Account Of Young Love In The Streets' and Saltpeter with 'Hunger's The Best Sauce'.MP3 : The Flies - Walking On the Sa...

RAY LAMONTAGNE @ COLSTON HALL, BRISTOL...
2007-10-28 19:44:00
Ray LaMont agne is a difficult man to deduce. Throughout 90 minutes of performing at Bristol 's Colston Hall last night, he spoke audibly only briefly, and he hardly stopped for breath before breaking into song.He is, apparently, chronically shy but in the current climate of a James Blunt-induced singer-songwriter mass takeover, it was refreshing to watch a man perform who seemed energised and liberated as soon as he hit a note yet retiringly shy without a guitar in his hand. No self-promotion, amusing anecdotes, celebrity guests or flashing lights; just a modest man with an extraordinary rasping voice and some very pleasant songs. The venue was also a poignant choice with Colston Hall promoting a reserved ambiance in its seated audience which was a perfect match for a performance that involved no showmanship but a great deal of devotion to musical excellence by the artist. He zoomed though an excellent range of his work including 'Till The Sun Turns Black', during which, shouts of "...

There's some great stuff thrown in this week, such as the live rendition of The Righteous Brothers classic, 'You've Lost That Loving Feeling' by Phosphorescent and Nick Cave's 'Into My Arms', by Embrace. Others in the pot this week include, The Gossip kicking out the Aaliyah jam, 'Are U That Somebody?', The Postal Service rocking Phil Collins' 'Against All Odds' and another appearance from The Last Town Chorus with David Bowie's, 'Modern Love'. Also worth mad-praise is Animal Collective's rare spin on Nirvana's 'On A Plain' and The Klaxon/Soko remix - yes, I know it's a mix, but it sounds more like a cover to me - so its in!I've also ended it with a nice little reminder of the Halloween celebrations to come! NEW NAPOLEON IIIRD - 'HIT SCHMOOZE FOR ME'...
2007-10-25 19:42:00
One of the best British albums of this year has to be Napoleon IIIrd's debut offering, 'In Debt Too', which is due for a UK release on October 29th, 2007.Below is the promo video for the song 'Hit Schmooze For Me', which looks set to be the first single off the album and will be available as a digital download the very same day.The album has been available for a while now, since May for iTunes users, and I'm surprised by the fact that so few have seen the joy in it - the iTunes release seems to have gone without any celebration or fanfare! However, since the online release of 'In Debt Too', there seems to have been a slight surge in popularity for Napoleon IIIrd due to some high-profile shows such as The End Of The Road Festival. Hopefully, armed with a solid CD release, it will create more space on the Napoleon IIIrd bandwagon for people to jump on! BEST OF BRITISH # 2...
2007-10-22 01:08:00
Here we are with yet another Best of British round up! Last time [here] I took you on a gentle stroll around the United Kingdom, covering various cities, to show you some of the best music that's been surfacing around these over-cast shores. Obviously, you'll notice the purpose of this feature is to avoid the British mainstream like a rash and showcase some of the more independent artists that are stepping forward out of the shadows. So, once again put on your hiking boots and fill your flask with tea as we take yet another amble around the Queen's Country for a sneak peak at some great music. The first stop of today's journey takes us mid-country, to Northampton. Its a city that's recently claimed it's place in the British musical landscape due to this year's Mercury nominee, Maps [here], but looking deeper, you can see that there is currently a mini-musical-revolution taking place there, with a sudden surge in great music and bands. Out of all the talent, there are a few ban...
NEW ONE ESKIMO - 'HOMETIME'...
2007-10-21 20:10:00
Below is the new video for One Eskimo's forthcoming debut single, 'Hometime', which is scheduled for a UK release on November 5th, 2007.The video is a magnificent example of animation and is a rather cute one too! It tells the story of a little Eskimo (aren't we supposed to say "Inuits" now-a-days?) on his wonderful journey to destroy the evil smoke bellowing industrial chimney! An announcement for One Eskimo's album release date will be made in early 2008, but in the mean time there are 4 tracks including 'Hometime', posted on their MySpace [here].There are also some live dates planned for November 5th and December 16th, 2007 at London's Golden Cobden Club.

This week the UK sees the release of BBC Radio 1's second Live Lounge album and Eliza Lumley's 'She Talks In Maths', a brilliant jazz interpretation of the much loved Radiohead. Also, 'Some Things Just Stick In Your Mind', a special singles/demos album by the very underrated folky Vashti Bunyan will be on the shelves along with Ween's 'La Cucaracha'. The Redwalls issue some retro garage-rock with their debut self-titled full length and Paperlung make their first offering with 'Balance'. We finally get the new, shit-kicking Moros Eros album 'Jealous Me Was Killed By...' and my personal new favourites, Siberian, put out 'With Me', which I highly recommend. Also worth noting is Tullycraft's import, 'Every Scene Needs a Center', Saturday Looks Good To Me with their 4th album 'Fill Up The Room', and Sweden's Mixtapes & Cellmates with their self titled debut.MP3 : Eliza Lumley - Black Star (Radiohead cover) MP3 : Ween - FriendsMP3 : Vashti Bunyan - Where I Like To...

There are also 2 videos available for download - 'Birthday' and 'Spiderz In The Bar (Part II)'.Hailing from Derby in the Midlands, Plans & Apologies are probably one of the most underrated bands in the UK at the moment and its a bloody shame that these chaps aren't being given the attention they deseve. The vibe is gorgeous lo-fi pop one moment, then bashing mental riffage the next, these indie poppers are backed by a Stephen Malkmus-style lyrical charm - creative energy with obvious signs of nascent lyrical genius.I highly recomend you download the following, load it to your ipod and blow your own mind!ZIP : Plans & Apologies - Bob Gandolf's Crystal Simplet...

A TASTE OF WHAT'S TO COME: SIGUR ROS...
2007-10-20 14:45:00
This year's annual BBC Electric Proms starts Wednesday and the line-up is full to the brim of interesting and potentially promising moments. One of them is Sigur Ros ' screening of their beautiful new film 'Heima' for the first time to a UK audience, which they will follow with a unique stripped down acoustic performance of their music.Excited as I am about this, things have been a little hit-and-miss with Sigur Ros lately. Their recent appearance on NPR's Bryant Park Project was nothing short of car crash radio, with the band coming across as stand-offish and to my observation a little rude. At least we found out more information behind the meaning of 'Hopelandic' - it's bullshit apparently! You can watch the full NPR interview [here] - see if you can make it all the way through without cringing!I couldn't!Bad interviews aside, their music is still great and the BBC Electric Proms performance looks set to have a massive impact! So, to remind ourselves just how great Sigur R...

London based disco-punks, The Ghost Frequency are getting a lot of love in the UK at the moment. Their currently supporting Hadouken! on tour and have bagged quite a few magazine articles in some high-profile music rags over the course of this last month. The band have also successfully charted in various independent indie lists and have even broke into the top 100 MTV2 debut videos with 'Nightmare' [link].If you're one for the indie new-wave phenomena, a kind of person that likes to dance their ass off to big beats and punky melodies, you should already be very familiar with Ghost Frequency, if not, do so - quickly. Of all the new generation nu-rave/nu-wave (does it matter anymore?) bands I've heard floating around the UK at the moment, and there is a fair few, Ghost Frequency actually seem quite capable of breaking through to the other side - definitely one to watch! As mentioned Ghost frequency are on tour, details are listed at their MySpace [here], where you can also find th...
