Vinyl From My Neighbours Attic
2008-01-24 22:33:00 Instant Karma. The day after my pretty awful shopping spree in some local charity shops reaped little reward, I bumped into my neighbour Linda while walking the dog. Somehow the topic of records came up and I found out that she has a collection of 200 old records in her attic!I managed to grab a few. I'll be getting more soon too. Some of the records, (like ELO, Dionne Warwick, Stevie Wonder etc) although classic, weren't obscure enough to validate ripping them for this blog.Heres the lowdown on whats in the zip file:***Herb Alpert - Bittersweet SambaThe album from br ass guru Herb Alpert is called "Whi pped Cream & Other Delights".The track I've shared here is called B ittersweet Samba and it rocks. I th ink Herb Alperts stuff is some of the most unashamedly happy music in existence.Gotta love the Tijuana sound.Circa 1965. ***Manual And The Music Of The Mountains - Golond rinaOk, its pretty cheesy, but worth a listen, and possib... My local charity shops suck.
2008-01-17 02:38:00 Sorry for the delay. I've been pretty busy lately.Treated myself to a nice new pair of Event TR6 studio monitors. Worth every penny.Great sound and very powerull considering their size and price. Also been spending a lot of time sampling some old records and CDs, aswell as tunes from various blogs, and vocals from CCMixter. I'll be back here soon wi th a collection of stabs and loops , mostly from funk and reggae reco rds.Anyway, a couple of days ago I was in a nearby neighbourhood and discovered they have not one, not two, or even three, but four charity shops, all of which sell records.Unfortunatly, it's a very trendy little area full of students, so the good records fly out the door.I picked up a couple of records -- they really aren't worth talking about, but fuck it, I will anyway._______________________________CWS Manchester Band - Tone Poem "Finlandia""MIGHTY BRASS"!!The cover looked so promising from a sampledudes point of view, but the content was pretty... Back from the bargain basement..
2007-11-28 06:45:00 Hey!No, I havent forgotten about the blog. Just been busy with being sick, and some DJ'ing and drinking too... but no sex. It's been 3 months - can you believe that shit?Anyway..A guy called EmpireX (alright man!) was asking me about the samples on here, so let me first explain that most of the shit Im putting on here is just rips of interesting old vinyl, which is obviously copyrighted material, but that never stopped anyone before! Used creatively, almost any old record can be turned into something great, and indistinguishable from the original, heheh.Of course, there will be some more recent tunes aswell as a few royalty free samples too, but really its down to you, the other sampledudes (and samplebitches) to decide what shit is gonna get you in trouble or not.So heres a couple of interesting tunes for your sampling, and listening pleasure, each LP costing €0.50 from a very stupid persons bargain bin. Gotta love that feeling. First is a weird little fo lk thing, thenÂ... More About: Bargain , Back

1997. Baby Birkin
2007-10-06 00:22:00 I picked up this cool little single in a bargain bin in 1997, just as I did much of my music back then. At the time I was on a majo r Stereolab buzz, and this fitted t he mood nicely.Appearantly their stuff was produced by Russell Senior of Pulp fame. :)Check it out. 2007-10-05 03:40:00 Ableton today announced Live 7, the update to their popular performance and sequencing software.Im a huge fan so this is pretty exciting news for me. The new Drum Rack feature is pretty interesting... I guess a Korg Pad Kontrol might have to be added to my shopping list with my Live 7 upgrade. :)Several new sample librarys are now also available, one of which is "Drum Machines" from Live gurus Puremagnetik.More on Live 7 here:http://www.ableton.com/live-7-whats- new********************While were on the subject of drum machines...Incase you dont already have a ton of classic drum machines already sampled, you can grab some here:http://machines.hyperreal.org/The site is a pain to navigate, but well worth investigating.Included are classics such as the Sequential Drumtrax, which is one of my personal favourites..Also of course the 808.. and 909Finally, if youre feeling really greedy and want pretty much every drum machine sample known to man, you can get them here:http://hexawe.net/mess... Just gettin started
2007-10-04 03:17:00 Hi.I'm pretty tired right now so I wont write much. Just set up this blog to share some interesting samples with you nice folk.Soon as I get my shit together Ill post a few samples. Im planning on posting thin gs like vocals, obscure (and not so obscure) drum breaks, shit off tv and radio, a few choice tracks and the occassional audio oddity. Basically the kind of stuff Mr Scruff and DJ Shadow would chew up and spit out. These samples might hopefully be of interest to DJs aswell as producers of dance, hip-hop, trip-hop etc. I suck at writing, but I promise, in time I'll post some gems. For starters heres a few loops and other samples but Ill post more, and better stuff soon. Bare in mind, most of the samples in that first pack are in aif form. I'll try to post future stuff in mp3 or wav... Ooh theres some keyword content already ;)So fire up Kontakt, Ableton, Sound forge, that battered old MPC or whatever f loats your boat.And remember kids.... ..always ... |
