They went through a number of personnel changes and changes in style before the band found its own voice. The founding members were Tuomo Lassila, Staffan Stråhlman, and John Vihervä. By 1985, Timo Tolkki entered the band, replacing Stråhlman on guitar, changed the name to Strato varius (a portmanteau of Stratocaster and Stradivarius) and taking up vocal duties as well. Tolkki became the driving force and mastermind of the band, assuming relatively complete control of the song-writing. He brought along not only strong rock influences, but also a neo-classical tinge. However, the Ensiferum Europe tour was unfortunately scheduled for the same time with recordings of Winters un . Mäenpää was forced to choose between his booked recording time for Wintersun and Ensiferum; he chose Wintersun and was forced to leave Ensiferum behind. The Album was produced solely by Jari Mäenpää himself, with only a session drummer (Kai Hahto) to perform the drums and percussion. Jari performed the vocals, bass, guitars and synth alone. On September 13, 2004 self-titled Wintersun album was released through Nuclear Blast Records.According to their website, the band started to record their next full-length release called Time at Sonic Pump Studios in May of 2006. With the first line-up (Max - gurgling, Andrea - guitars, Fabio - bass, Marco - drums) and a different name during that wintertime, Enthrallment (this was the name of the band) recorded their first demo called "Eulogy Of Burning Christ". The official sound was a slow and brutal death-metal influenced by Immolation and Incantation. This demo is sold-out. Thanks to the Cryptic Soul Productions, Enthrallment realized the 7" "Accursed In Divinity". This contained 2 tracks. A true masterpiece of brutality. But the sound contained in the new tracks were definitely more brutal oriented and strange. As the musical direction was no longer the same as the beginning, it was useless to keep the old name.
