The sound has to 95% nothing to do with bossa nova thus this was made long before the new beat virus hit the states. But this is a proof of the greatness of Laurindo and the fact that LAURINDO was the one to make bossa nova the great success LONG before João and his team of mates came to Carnigie hall in 1962. He presented it to the superstars of music. The record is almost all jazz but this contains te coolest version of Bahia ever made. And remember this was made in 1951! We have Laurindo to thank for the whole BUG of bossa nova and he was the one introducing it to the world. On the first track "Senhor"Peter Gunn the electric guitar by Bob Bain have the upperhand. But that stops right there and the next track "Bahia" is a classical Mancini goes bossa nova track with Laurindo on smooth acoustic guitar and Bob Bain on some riffs. this continues and over all a must have album for the cocktal parties or regualar parties for that matter. And all this made possible by my "canadian connection" and friend Matuséla. (AKA Mika) This lovely bloke must get a BIG thanx and im sure that all of you will find his generosity a fine gift in this time of winter and cold. (And summer if you are brasileiro)This is a masterpiece from start to finish and this release recived 2 grammys in 1959. Best engineired record (classical) and one for Salli Terris superb singing. The EMI Angel label which owns Capitol released an reissue in 1973 and later also CD. One can understand why when listen. Its a journey in a landscape of tunes. This is God in tunes. Everything is firstclass. Laurindo on Guitar and Mart in Ruderman on flute. And spice this with Salli Terris singing. What can possibly go wrong?
