(AKA king of soundtracks) I just love to post old Mancini-albums cause it makes me study and remember old films and series. Mr Lucky is a obscure american TV-show which was aired 1 season! It was made possible by Mr Blake Edwards, the genious, and it was based on a film from 1943 by the same name. The plot is so funny: This guy, Joe Adams wins the jackpot in Vegas, a boat called The Fortuna which is located in the docks of LA. He uses this boat for his gambling operations. He lives an extreme lifestyle and to get the LAPD off his own back he become their snitch. This on the other hand causes a whole lot of probs with the other side of the law. Henry Mancini first did the original scores on "Mr Lucky", but soon he released this one; "Mr Lucky goes Latin ", with a bunch of his mates INCLUDING LAURINDO ALMEIDA on guitar. The class contained 8 beautiful women and 3 guys. (and me ;) So this seems good for old Natanael. I just want to tip you guys of a superb blog. I have linked to it for a long time. But im not doing something completely wrong cause it contains 2 tracks of the king. This album is ultra-rare and only contains moviesoundtrack bossanovas. Its filled with classic smooth jazz from all kind of composers. My favourite tracks are "I like the look" by Mr Mancini from the movie Peter Gunn (Gunn number one) released 1967 by Paramount, based on the cult TV-series from late 50s to 1961. (Please note me if wrong) The album then contains my 2 favourite tracks by the king, "Naked city", which is a cultseries about the detectives in the 65th police presinct in NY. (More info) And then "Route 66" from the TV-series from 1960-1964. The records no one else have. And a whole lot of Maysa. Well what is this? Nestor Amar al went to the USA in the same era as the king of bossa guitar and made latin music the big bug it became. This is a hard to find item which is out of print. The vol.1 & 2 is still in print and contains some tracks from this one but the real thing is better right? Well this is pure magic ppl. Im attaching the text from Loronix written by Zeca Louro: "Moos was so nice on sending this album to Loronixers. I did not realize how hard to find it is. It was recorded as a series of three volumes, the first one is already available at Loronix and you should use Loronix Find It to check, recommended. It was recorded in 1953 and you can hear sometimes a draft Bossa Nova birth there. For the first it wasnt very many translations of the original portuguese lyrics around in this time. Second they needed expert skills in teaching the best way to play the guitar. And who got this job? LAURINDO ALMEIDA! Laurindo sat down and translated all classical lyrics (as we know them today (in english) to Outra vez, Chega de saudade, Samba de uma nota só and so on. Not many know all these translations are made by the king Laurindo. Another fact of his enormous talent and musical genious.
