Time-Life Releasing 143 Radio Performances by Hank Williams Performances

Time-Life has entered into an exclusive deal with Hank Williams , Jr. and Jett Williams to release 143 recordings by the late-Hank Williams that have not been heard in over 57 years.The recordings are from a daily radio program that Williams hosted in 1951. The recordings of 72 of those shows have been preserved and provide a previously unheard (unless you lived in mid-Tennessee at the time) look into Williams and his band. He is heard joking with the band and talking about music, along with performing his own hits and over forty songs that have never been available by Williams commercially.The sound quality on the recordings is said to be close to that from a studio. Release is expected to start this fall and last for three years.Mike Jason, Senior Vice President of Time-Life, said "This is truly a unique moment in music history. Eddy Arnold Sets Chart Record

As we mentioned last week, the people at RCA were working with radio stations to see if they could get Eddy Arnold on the national charts one last time. The plan was to get his last single, To Life, played by as many radio stations as possible at a specific time and then replayed, if possible.They pulled it off. To Life premiered on the country charts this week at number 49, giving Arnold a charted hit in each of the last seven decades.Arnold's first hit was 1945's Each Minute Seems a Million Years and was followed by one of the most amazing chart runs of any genre. 67 consecutive top ten hits. 61 weeks at number one over a fourteen month period. 128 top forty country hits.His consecutive decade run almost came to an end at five (40's through 80's) until a duet with LeAnn Rimes on his own Cattle Call made it to number eighteen in 1999. It was his only hit of the 90's as, most likely, To Life will be his only hit of this decade.

The late-Curtis Mayfield was inducted onto the Hollywood Rock Walk at the Guitar Center on Sunset Boulevard. The ceremony was attended by his wife Altheida and sons Cheaa and Kirk.The Steven Tyler rehab story was reported in the Boston Herald with speculation that it was hard-partying with his much younger girlfriend that led to the entry into the program. Others, though, say it is his health problems in the recent past that led to a dependence on painkillers.Bette Midler did a special show in New York earlier this week in support of the New York Restoration Project. She was joined on stage for a series of duets by newswoman Katie Couric.Midler was instrumental in starting the project which aims to plant one million trees in New York by 2017. Kansas Issuing Two For The Show: 30th Anniversary Edition

Kirshner/Epic/Legacy will issue a revamped version of Kansas ' classic live album Two For the Show on July 1 in a 30th Anniversary Edition .The new two-CD set will include all of the tracks from the original LP, including the song Closet Chronicles. The song was removed from the CD version due to time constraints.In addition, the second disc of the set will contain ten tracks from the tour that have previously not been released.Jeb Wright, writer for Classic Rock Revisited, writes all new liner notes in a 24-page booklet. Morris Day and the Time are back for a run of fifteen shows at the Flamingo in Las Vegas. The run starts June 24 and ends August 2.The entire group will be reuniting for the dates, including Morris Day, Jerome Benton, Jellybean Johnson, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Monte Moir and Jesse Johnson. The group played on the 50th Grammy Awards last February with Rihanna and Morris Day performed Jungle Love with Prince at the Coachella festival.The group first formed in 1981 in Minneapolis as the first of Prince's numerous side projects. Activision has just announced Guitar Hero World Tour which will add drums and vocals to the game along with the ability to create your own music and have an 8-player Battle of the Bands on-line. A documentary on Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister is scheduled for release next year. Lemmy will not only include footage and an interview with Kilmister, but also his bandmates and others like Mick Jones, Alice Cooper and Slash.The film is being produced and directed by Greg Oliver and Wes Orshoski using HD Video and 16-mm film. Oliver said of Kilmister, "Shooting Lemmy is like filming dangerous wildlife. He never does what you expect him to do, and he never does anything you want him to do. Here We Go Again - Spector Trial to Start September 29

One year after the jury deadlocked and caused a mistrial with a 10-2 vote in favor of a guilty finding on Phil Spector , the famed producer will once again stand trial for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson.Los Angeles judge Larry Fidler set September 29 as the start of a new trial which, if it is like the first, will most likely last into early 2009. The delay in the retrial was necessitated when the majority of Spector's defense team quit after the first trial ended. The new defense team is looking to have Fidler removed from the case as they see him as biased against Spector.Lana Clarkson was shot and killed at Spector's mansion on February 3, 2003. Spector claimed that the actress committed suicide but the prosecution built a case around how the producer was known to use guns in threatening women and that he told an employee that he had shot Clarkson shortly after a gunshot was heard.

The historic Warfield Theater in San Francisco closed down last week after a week long run by Phil Lesh and Friends. Lesh's group dug deep into the Grateful Dead songbook, performing a full album each night with the group's first two albums done on the final night of the run.In all, the Dead played the venue 21 times, the Jerry Garcia Band 88 times and Phil Lesh 30 times.E! is reporting that Steven Tyler of Aerosmith has checked himself into the Las Encinas Hospital rehab facility for treatment of addiction to an unnamed substence.Decca Classics will be releaseing Marianne Faithful Live at the BBC sometime over the summer. American Idol voters did the unexpected and crowned rocker David Cook as the Season 7 winner over the more pop-oriented David Archuleta. Sweden's Polar Music Prize is given each year by the Royal Swedish Academy of Music to two artists from different genres. This year's prizes are going to opera singer Renee Flemming and Pink Floyd.Floyd was awarded because they "captured and shaped the reflections and attitudes of a whole generation." Sinatra Debuts at Number Two on Album Chart

Ten years and one week after his death, Frank Sinatra has the number two album in the U.S. with Nothing But the Best. The album moved 99,000 copies last week and is bettered only by the new album by Death Cab for Cutie which sold 144,000.The last time Sinatra was this high on the album chart was 1993 with his first Duets album. Prior to thses two albums, you would have to go all the way back to 1966 for any album that did as well, when Strangers in the Night reached the top of the charts.The new Jason Mraz album is number three, which is notable because it is the first time in sixteen years that the Warner Music Group (WEA) has had the top three albums.Neil Diamond's Home Before Dark falls one to seven with sales of 59,000 (down 63%) while Madonna's Hard Candy moves three to eight on 53,000 (down 43%).Overall, album sales are down 13.5% from the same week last year.

Joan Baez will release her new album, Day After Tomorrow, on September 9 via Bobolink/Razor & Tie Entertainment.Steve Earl, who is producing the album, told Billboard.com, "She's one of the great interpreters of songs alive on the planet. We started out with seven songs she brought to the table that she arrived at by hearing them. Some of them she'd already started performing, so we started out with songs she very much wanted to sing."Those songs include three written by Earle along with Elvis Costello's Scarlet Tide, Patty Griffin's Mary and the title song, written by Tom Waits.

The U.S. House of Representative finally got with the program today and voted May 13, 2008 as Frank Sinatra Day. Too bad they didn't take the vote until May 20. The vote was 402-3. We assume the three no's were the only three that could read a calendar.Whitney Houston 's marijuana possession charge stemming from a 2000 incident in Hawaii has been dropped. Shout Factory is preparing two DVD's of classic performances from Tammy Wynette and Marty Robbins. Songs will be taken from such programs as Pop Goes the Country, Town Hall Party and The Bill Anderson Show. Look for them on August 19.David Bowie says that he has NOT given permission for his songs to be used in a musical version of his film The Man Who Fell to Earth. Bob Flick, a founding member of the Brothers Four (Greenfields), married actress Lonnie Anderson (WKRP in Cincinnati) on Saturday. The two met a few years ago at a movie premier in Minneapolis.Matthew & Gunnar Nelson are on the road this year with their tribute show to their father, Rick Nelson.
