ANNIE WHITEHEAD'S SOUPSONG - A Tribute To Robert Wyatt - Milan, 24 9 2001
2007-11-06 00:53:00
The Soupsongs project was commissioned in 1999 by the London Jazz Festival and Nottinghamshire Live & Direct. Annie Whitehead and Wyatt selected the music, that features work from Robe rt 's solo albums - ranging from Rock Bottom to Shleep - which Annie then arranged for a band of all-star musicians, many of whom have contributed to Robert's records. That original edition was released in a double-CD format. The edition posted here is a shorter concert from the subsequent European tour. We made this recording directly from a radio broadcast, but we missed to note the musician?s list. Anyhow, it probably was: Annie Whitehead trombone, Julie Tippets vocal, Ian Maidman guitar, Janette Mason keyboards, Steve Lamb bass and Liam Genokey drums. If anyone knows something more or different, please write? (See in the comments section)The tracks:1. A Sunday In Madrid2. Sea Song3. Muddy Mouse Suite4. Little Red Riding Hood / Alifib / Alfie5. Alliance6. Sight Of The World7. Free Will And Test...

ASSOCIATION P.C. - Sun Rotation (Germany 1971)
2007-11-03 01:38:00
As you may be aware of visiting our blog, we have a sort of fixed idea in recovering the gems buried into the vaults of the out of print MPS/Basf Lp?s catalog (see our Pickin' the comments section...). So, a very fair friend has sent us the Lp rip of a bunch of those albums, recorded in the early Seventies by Association P.C. (the P.C. standing for the leader Pierre Courbois). We intend to forward these albums here, starting today from the 1971 one. They were an international free-jazz-rock band featuring Czech guitarist Toto Blanke, German bassist Siggi Busch, Dutch drummer Courbois and his countryman Jasper Van't Hof on keyboards (replaced by Joachim Kuhn on Rock Around The Cock and Mama Kuku), with guests Karl-Heinz Wiberny (on Erna Morena and Rock Around The Cock) and Jeremy Steig (on Mama Kuku) playing various reeds and flutes. By basing themselves in Germany and signing to the MPS label, they inevitably became part of the German scene. Their music was a mixture of free jazz,...

KING CRIMSON - 21/21st
2007-11-01 21:42:00
We were thinking about a King Crimson post since from the start. King Crimson is one of the mighty names in the contemporary music history and we couldn?t miss them. But the Net if full of King Crimson? So we thought to do a little jo-b/ke. We gathered 21 live performance of their landmark tune, 21st Century Schizoid Man, starting from their very first recording in 1969 to reach Mexico City in 1996, then put it all in chronological order and made a cover for the whole thing. Obviously you will find here yet published - in various form (the main sources are quoted, for the others do it yourself?) - material and almost any kind of acoustic quality. But, at least, we can say that no other similar collection of one of the greatest musical piece ever is currently available around. The 21st Century Schizoid Tracks:CD11. 1969 5 6 - 21st Century Schizoid Man @ Maida Vale BBC (from Epitaph) (7:08)2. 1969 7 5 - 21st Century Schizoid Man @ Hyde Park London (6:37)3. 1969 7 5 - 21st Century Schiz...

VOLKER KRIEGEL - Live in Stuttgart 1974
2007-11-01 01:09:00
Thanks to our fair friend we have to offer here another Liederhalle concert, this time featuring Volker Kriegel´s Mild Maniac: same date, same FM broadcast, same recording source than the one by Passport posted days ago (the concert was a double-feature). Here we have three tracks from the Mild Maniac LP and one from Eberhardt Weber´s Colours of Chloe, his first ECM recording. The sound quality is once again very satisfactory. The line-up:Volker Kriegel: guitarRainer Brüninghaus: keyboardsEberhardt Weber: bassJoe Nay: drumsPeter Giger: percussionThe tracks:1. JOE FARRELL QUARTET - Super Session (1970)
2007-10-31 00:44:00
This may be a good game for you: this 1970 album has been reprinted in CD but under different title and cover art. May you find it in your record collection by listening the first track? Apart from this, this was a really great album, and we are pleased to offer you here the original Lp rip (probably better in sound than the reprinted edition) along with the original cover art. The names in the line-up will tell you the rest, though most of the the tracks feature combinations of the musicians, rather than the full band. The line-up:Joe Farrell - saxesJohn McLaughlin - guitarChick Corea - pianoDave Holland - bassJack DeJohnette ? drumsThe tracks:1. JIMI HENDRIX - The Cry Of Love
2007-10-30 01:17:00
This album was in the facts the fourth of a small official studio discography Jimi Hendrix left behind. Though it was posthumous, this was the way felt it all those who held and turned up and down in their hands that Lp cover in those March 1971 days. And so it was for over 25 years. Then one day it became garbage. They deleted it and critics threw mud on it: the Hendrix family released First Rays Of The New Rising Sun and South Saturn Delta, albums meant to be the correct last word. But they don't adequately replace The Cry Of Love , War Heroes, Midnight Lightning or Crash Landing CDs. As a matter of fact, many songs included on these out of print discs are otherwise unavailable on CD and that's a shame, as they have been permanently deleted. But for us The Cry Of Love remains the true fourth Jimi Hendrix studio album, and as long as we are so lucky to have bought the CD in the days before its casting off, now it?s thankfully here. The original Lp tracks:A1 Freedom 3:26A2 Drifting ...
CHARLEMAGNE PALESTINE - Rome 1999
2007-10-28 21:35:00
A long neglected musician, composer, performer and visual artist, Char lemagne Palestine is only recently recognized as a driving force in experimental music scene. For many years his recordings have been difficult to obtain and his performances could be heard only as an obscure story-telling. His early work with carillon and electronic sustained drones has given place to his better known piano work in the Seventies, concerts in which many times Palestine bleed his own hands after an exhilarating playing technique. After years of retirement doing visual installations and traveling, the Nineties has been more friendly with Palestine. Here's a radio broadcast performance we personally recorded eight years ago...The link:SHAREBEE or XIRROR

PETER HAMMILL & STUART GORDON - Live in France 1999
2007-10-26 23:49:00
Another concert by Peter Hammill, this time together with the violin of Stuart Gordon . The show is similar to those published years ago in a CD called Veraciuos, but the source is different from those included there. It comes to us from the vaults, so we thank the original seeder. The sound is not perfect, but, as ever, we consider the music itself coming first. Since we are not used to post videos, we choose the audio edition, but you can find the full .mpg here. The tracks:1. The Siren Song2. Just Good Friends3. Unrehearsed4. Comfortable5. Nightman6. Been Alone So Long7. AmnesiacThe links:SHAREBEE or XIRROR

PASSPORT - Live in Stuttgart 1974
2007-10-25 22:46:00
Thanks to the kindness of a good friend, here´s a very cool Passport concert, dating from 1974, never officially released nor heard off again since that date. The location was the Liederhalle in Stuttgart , Germany, and the source is a FM broadcast of the same year, taped on reel-to-reel and finally transferred to mp3. However the sound is surprisingly great, not too different from an official release. The year is the same of the famous Jubilee Concert, but the program is completely different. The line-up is unknown, but supposed to be the 1973-76 classic one: Klaus Doldinger on sax, Kristian Schultze on keyboards, Wolfgang Schmid on bass and Curt Cress on drums. The tracks:1. Eternal Spiral2. Tarantula3. Nexus4. MedleyThe links:SHAREBEE or XIRROR

CATASTO ELETTRICO - Two or Three Things We Know About...
2007-08-25 00:01:00
No rehearsals, no concerts, Catasto Elettrico has always been something more than a ?cult?, ?invisible? band. Following the idea (utopia) of total improvisation in the telepathic Miles Davis way, during the years they lived a sort of parallel life. At the beginning, after several years of practise in the usual blues-rock bands, they formed a power-progressive trio (organ, bass, drums) named Far and gave regular concerts in the once so-open musical scene of Rome. Their music consisted in re-arranged covers of Traffic, EL&P, Hendrix, some original instrumentals, minimalist sequences influenced by Terry Riley and a lot of music and mood from Miles Davis to Nucleus and Soft Machine, which were not so famous at the time. Everything was pulled together in long suites, and when the group began to improvise very free, the public decided that was definitively too much. The group ended his last official concert in front of an audience consisting of three people (including the bassist?s gi...
