Leon Jackson Expected to Take 2007 UK Christmas Number 1

Merry Winter Solstice you damn good-looking Pedigree Music readers. It appears we -- and to be honest, most of the internet -- forgot to include 2007 X Factor winner Leon Jackson in the running for the Christmas 2007 number 1. I could place the blame on other people, which I intend to do once I find someone, but for now, the excuse is that he was not included in early sales data. Now we have the midweek sales data, we can clearly see that Leon Jackson will be the 2007 Christmas number 1, outselling his nearest rival 3 to 1. We can also assume that Katie Melua's duet with the late Eva Cassidy, titled "What a Wonderful World", will be number 2, and Leona Lewis's "Bleeding Love" will be number 3.

Evil Vibes Spook The Mars Volta

The Mars Volta claim they were haunted by dark forces while recording their new album. Idiots. Their new album, titled The Bedlam in Goliath, was supposedly cursed because Omar Rodriguez-Lopez (guitarist) bought Cedric Bixler (frontman) a Ouija board from Jerusalem, Israel. The band blame the Ouija board for causing power outages, floods and the nervous breakdown of a recording engineer, and are convinced evil spirits played a part in the album creation process. Rodriguez-Lopez says, "It felt like savagery. It didn't affect the music as much as the expression of the music."

Slipknot To Start Work On 4th Album

Slipknot have announced that they are soon to return to the studio from hiatus to record their fourth (official) studio album. The band's drummer, Joey Jordison, has confirmed that the 9-piece band will return to the studio in January and hope to release the album in the spring. Jordison said: "We???ll probably start touring a month of so before the album comes out, kind of the same way we did the Jagermeister Tour??? before ???Vol. 3??? came out (in 2004)." "So we'll do something like that as well and we???re looking at right now doing some European festivals next year but nothing???s in stone yet. You know, there???s still some things to be worked out, but the main thing is, you know, the fans should know that there will be another Slipknot record."

Katie Melua has knocked Leona Lewis off the number one spot in the UK charts after Lewis enjoyed 7 weeks in the top spot. Melua's number one song is a cover of "What A Wonderful World" featuring the late Eva Cassidy on vocals. Proceeds from the single are going straight to charity. Jackson 5 to Perform New Year's Eve Show?

Producer Jermaine Dupri is planning a spectacular end-of-year celebration to mark his engagement to Janet Jackson . Dupri claimed to the radio station V-103 that the Jackson 5 will reunite for a special reunion show in his Studio 72 club. He said: "It's the Jackson 5 Party. I swear to you it's going to be the biggest party this town has ever seen." Michael Jackson and his four brothers will be flown into Atlanta by helicopter for the bash, claims Dupri.

Thom Yorke (frontman of Radiohead) is getting songs from his solo album The Eraser remixed in the new year. XL Recordings are to release three 12" vinyls each containing three tracks from Thom remixed by a variety of people. The vinyls are released on January 21, 28 and February 4 2008. New Kooks Album Details

Finally we have some more details on the new Kooks album. The band recently revealed some information exclusively to NME. Their sophomore effort will be titled Zonk, after the studio they recorded in, and will be released in March or April 2008. "The Kooks - Konk sounded right," frontman Luke Pritchard said. The band currently has 16 songs for the album that they will likely narrow down to 14. Track titles include "See The Sun", "Shine On', "Do You Wanna (Make Love To Me)", "Disappear", "Lonely Cat", "Sway", and "Stormy Weather".

Big Boi has announced grand plans for the first single off his upcoming album, Sir Luscious Left Foot. He told Vibe that fans can expect to hear the first single at midnight on New Year's Eve, 2007 - 2008. "I want all the stuff to be '08, everything to be brand new," he said. "I'm going to put 12 songs on, I'm finished with like nine right now." Sir Luscious Left Foot will be released separately from Andre 3000's own new solo project, then will be followed up with a new Outkast release. Leona Lewis Tops UK Charts for 7th Week

Last year's X Factor winner Leona Lewis has managed to hang on to the number one spot for the seventh week in a row with "Bleeding Love". Her debut album Spirit is also doing fantastically well, nearly hitting the 1 million mark after managing to stay on the number one spot for a fourth week. Last week alone it sold more than 180,000 copies. With about 915,000 copies sold so far, Spirit is now the third largest selling album of this year, just behind Mika's Life in Cartoon Motion and Amy Winehouse's Back to Black.

Will Smith has revealed he eventually wants to be president of the USA. "I always wanted to be the first black president but Barack Obama stole my idea. That's OK with me. Barack can go first and then I'll take my turn," Smith said. "Once I'm in, I'll start changing a few things that urgently need changing. The basis of human sanity is physical survival, right? "So I'd start with universal health-care and shelter. I can't see that happening under Bush. Too many bad things have happened under his presidency. "I don't believe he is an evil man, I just think he has an unevolved perspective. It's a good thing he's served his time. Now it's time for Barack Obama."

New Babyshambles Song Posted Online

A new song by Babyshambles has been posted online. The song is titled "Pretty Sue" and you can listen to it here. Drummer Adam Ficek revealed in a mySpace bulletin that the band plan to post two further new songs online within the next few weeks, "1939" and "Mouse In The House". He also hinted that Babyshambles would be playing some low-key Christmas shows, which one can only assume will mean a return of their impromptu pub gigs.

American punk rockers Pennywise have left their label of 15 years, Epitaph, for a new label created by the social networking website MySpace. The band?s ninth studio album, which is still untitled, will be available on March 25, 2008. The best part is that for two weeks the album will be FREE ? the catch being that users must ?befriend Textango?. Pennywise lead vocalist Jim Lindberg said, "We can also potentially expose our music and message to people around the world who may have never had the opportunity to hear it because they either couldn't afford to buy a CD or they didn't have access to music outlets or good distribution." Physical copies of the album will be distributed by MySpace Records. Digital copies will be sold on the MySpace website via mobile content company Textango. Maximo Park Lauch Their Own Beer

Newcastle Brown Ale is soon to be rebranded as Maximo Brown Ale in a move that will hopefully make Maximo Park synonymous with their glorious hometown of Newcastle. The band have been hard at work designing their own label for the bottles of ale which will go on sale nationwide on December 15 (the same date that they are playing at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle). Frontman Paul Smith said: "So many amazing things have happened for our band in a short space of time and to have our image emblazoned on a Brown label is another addition to that list. "It would be great for our band to be as synonymous with Newcastle as the mighty Brown Ale, and it's both amusing and an honour to be able to deface the label in this manner!" The label will be on the front of 25,000 bottles of Brown Ale that are to be sold at the Newcastle gig, as well as at the Stereo group of nightclubs in Newcastle, Brighton, Oldham and Huddersfield.
