Recently, I've been thinking about how sad it was that people who are just getting into free music are missing some of the best songs. Take Nevertheless for example. They were my nineth post!For that reason, I just added a small list of downloads to the sidebar. They are some of my personal favorites that I wanted to draw attention to. Right now, I'm not sure how long I'll have it up - I'm not sure I like the look of it. But it's there for now, and the music is good. Happy Mother's Day! Hopefully you remembered to do something special for your mom. I asked mine to do a guest post today, to feature whatever music she wanted. Unfortunately, she declined, so you're stuck with me. :)Topping the Christian music headlines today, Kutless has announced that they are giving away their new single, "The Feeling", from their upcoming CD To Know That You're Alive. You can get the song over at ExclusiveKutless.com, the band's "secret" website.I was surprised when I first heard the song. It's unlike any Kutless song I've ever heard. It actually reminds me of The Showdown's new CD. It's still Kutless, but it sounds like they've changed their sounds some. A band called Three Cord Wonder.Basically, Three Chord Wonder is a unashamedly Christian punk-rock-alternative band from Denver Colorado. Though they may not the greatest musically, they bring back fond memories of the golden age of punk, only with better lyrics.You can get five different songs from the band's Purevolume profile, ranging from "In Jesus' Name" to "The Jesus Rock Show". Showbread's new albums, Anorexia Nervosa is in stores on May 13, so to help Showbread fans celebrate, I've got some older free music from the band.Going back to No Sir, Nihilism Is Not Practical, you can get two songs from the band ("Dead By Dawn" and "Mouth Like A Magazine") on the group's Purevolume. Josh Scogin is a man of many talents. He's the former lead vocalist for Luti-Kriss/Norma Jean, the lead vocalist for The Chariot, he's done guest vocals with The Showdown and As Cities Burn, and he's got a acoustic folk side-project A Rose By Any Other Name.*It's A Rose By Any Other Name we're going to be looking at today. You can get "I Sing A Lot" for free from the A Rose.. MySpace profile. It's much softer then what Josh normally does, I guess to get a break from writing metal songs. MyCCM Problem Fixed

It seems like there's been some technical difficulty with MyCCM download for some people. What happens is when you attempt to download the song, it instead opens QuickTime and plays online. Thankfully, there is a fix. By changing a setting in Mozilla Firefox, you can get it to work. If you've had the problem, it can be fixed by following the instructions. (I assuming you are using Firefox. You should be.)1. Click "Tools" on the toolbar at the top of your Firefox window.2. Click on "Options".3. Go to the "Content" tab.4. In the bottom there should be something that says "File Types".5. Click "Manage" inside of "File Types"6. Search for "mp3".7. There should be either one or two things that come up.8. Select one and hit "Change Action" and select "Save to my computer".9. Repeat on the other one.10. Click "OK".And then try to download the songs again. It should work now. Seems like all of the music sites seem to pick the same time to update. Great for you, but it certainly makes my job a little bit harder. Despite that, I'm going to attempt to catch up with the new music that's out there...Beginning with FreeCCM: the site has know got new free songs from Sara Groves, with her song "Honesty", Mercy Me, with "Grace Tells Another Story" from the groups new CD All That Is Within Me, and Mike Farris with "Selah! The festival is giving away one song a month on iTunes.Here's how it works: You go to the website, give in the form, and they'll send you a code so you can get the song on iTunes. Spotlight: Sides of the North

Today's spotlight is on a band called Sides of the North . They are a independent Christian rock band from Ohio. They are also evidently fond of the color pink. According to the band, they are a "passive-aggressive" band, though they remind me a lot of Emery with a little East West and Mourning September thrown in, without the polish of expensive recording equipment. Lyrically, they are definitely Christian.When I started to research the band, I was surprised how much music I found. They have 6 total songs scattered across the web, 7 if you count the radio edit of "The Up and Up". We're going to take a look at what music is legal and what is not, which will hopefully help you decide for yourselves. Before I get started, a disclaimer:~Warning! The links in this post are to illegal music sites. That means you should not download things from them!Don't download music from sites or blogs like this one*, Download Christian Music. The idea is to make music available in countries where they don't have Christian music stores. It's a nice idea, but unfortunately breaks quite a few laws. I've receive tons of emails since I started TFCMB asking if such and such download was legal. (Yes, I mean you, Brian and Daniel.) To save time, I'm going to try and explain what makes a download legal or not. Since it's a huge topic, I'm going to take two posts to try and explain the basics. To start with, why you should follow copyright law.Let's say you go onto a shady website and download one small Audio Adrenaline song to your computer. No big deal, right? Wrong.First and most importantly, that's wrong. It may not seem like much, but you stole music. "Thou shalt not steal" sound familiar?Second, it hurts Audio Adrenaline, the record company, the music distributors, the fast food joint where the band eats on tour, etc. It's expensive making good music.Thirdly, it hurts our witness. I found out about Capital Lights (formally AfterEight) about a hour ago when I received a friend request from the band on Myspace. Upon further investigation, I found that they had the song "Can I Get An Amen" up for free download. I also discovered that Capital Lights has been signed to Tooth & Nail Records and has played with the likes of Hawk Nelson, Run Kid Run, and A Rotterdam November.After giving the song a couple of listens, I'm impressed. It sounds really good. Definitely on the rockier side of punk/rock. I'd highly recommend you give Capital Lights a listen. Free music today from power-pop band Hello Kelly . They have their song "Stalker Song" up for free download on the Hello Kelly Myspace page. It's a interesting song, as you can probably tell by the title. Basically, it's a happy pop relationship song, involving some stalking. Not serious, but, umm, yeah.On the other hand, the song is set to a sweet classic video game theme music. And the band is really pretty cool. I'd never heard of them, but when I stumbled on the band's website yesterday, I was so impressed that I decided I'd feature them right away.The Lads website is awesome. Seriously, it's like funnest band site I've ever been on. You can read the band's lyrics, get wallpapers, coloring pages, watch videos, read hilarious bios of Bjorn, Mark, and Steve, discover how the police, lawnmowers, and blue grass music figure into the band's history, all from a sweet, colorful flash site.You can also download five free mp3s from various CD's and get the karaoke tracks to three of the band's best songs.
