2008 - Stuff I'm Looking Forward To
2008-01-08 20:29:00 I don't want to go all nostradamus on you and try and identify who's gonna break through this year. Instead, this will be an attempt to identify some bands/artists who should be releasing new material in 2008 , that I am just genuinely really interested in hearing.Black KidsTheir Wizard of Ahhhs e.p released this year relieved massive critical success and deservedly so. I'm hoping for them to have a proper l.p. release sometime in 08. I have very high anticipations of it being a fine debut album.mp3 Black Kids - Hurricane JanefrYarsThe London singer-songwriter already has a couple of e.p's in circulation. Hailing from the same school as Bombay Bicycle Club and Cajun Dance Party he certainly has the pedigree. There's no doubting his talent either and I am looking forward to an album sometime in '08.mp3 frYars - The IdesLykke LiAlready championed on several occasions by the fabulous mr Fitz, Lykke Li had an amazing 2007. Film Review - Heima
2008-01-07 02:29:00 Title: Heima (At Home)Artist: Sigur RósDirector: Dean DeBloisReleased: November 5th, 2007Our first film review! It should have come a while back but I've only just got round to finally watching it. Heima is a truly beautiful film documenting Sigur Rós' homecoming tour. Shot during the summer of 2006 (with additional material from 2007) the film is a mix of several open air and intimate shows, short interviews and utterly stunning Icelandic scenery. The film really encompasses the Icelandic spirit of being truly free from the shackles of the world. The band often talk about giving something back to their homeland and the Icelandic people. It's clear they love their country and this is clearly demonstrated by their open air acoustic protest of the 'monstrous' kárahnjúkar dam. This concert in particular is full of poignancy with the wonderful scenery that surrounds them as they play. This film is definitely worth a watch if you have any appreciation of Sigur Rós' music and/or ... 2008-01-04 01:46:00 No hate in '08... Enjoy. (1) "Fais Rentrer Les Euros" (feat. Uffie & Feadz) (Feadz Vocal Remix) - M.I.T.C.H.And the award for, "The First Song Of 2008 To Grab My Attention, And Then Continue To Do So For A Period Of 3 Days" goes to, M.I.T.C.H. & Co.Completely dig the sounds of Uffie. Dunc's right in his belief that Canada produces far more decent musicians than they really have to... (3) "Easy (Like A Sunday Morning)" (Tittsworth Remix) - The Commodores'Tis a goal of mine to listen to the original each Sabbath-day of this annum. For now, enjoy this perky, cherpy remix... Fitz: That was the year that was...
2008-01-02 17:38:00 Well... How good was that?!Two-thousand and seven; a good one.I must first state that this is not an account of the 'most influential' songs of 2007... Nor is it a discourse concerning the movers and shakers of this year.Merely an idiosyncratic musical memoir if you like... In no order, though probably slightly autobiographical in hindsight.Go forth and listen-ify..."With or Without You" - KeaneDreamy."Pacemaker" & "Ike & Tina" - Jamie TBought the 'Panic Prevention' album the very same day i purchased Just Jack's "Overtones"... It's fair to say that i didn't listen to Just Jack's offering until a far later date. Got so into 'Panic Prevention'! Great album, forever returning to it."Cold War Fiasco" - Lupe Fiasco vs. Cold War Kids vs. Lily Allen (Team9)Not necessarily a great fan of this song; but have enjoyed the offerings from each individual artist this year. Really have warmed towards each of them. Sometimes reluctantly. Thus; this seems apt."Kick Push" - Lupe Fi... More About: Year

2007 Songs- Duncan Face's 10
2007-12-26 16:21:00 Alright peeps, I found half an hour in my 'busy life' to get a post in. I've been planning this one for ages so it wasn't too bad a write up. This is a list of my top 10 songs of the year listed from 10 to 1 based on personal favouritism. My top 10 albums can be found here.10. Feist - My Moon My Man. With 1234 proving to be a massive international smash on the back of an iPod commercial, 2007 was a hugely succesful year for the former Broken Social Scene contributor. Her third release 'The Reminder' really keeps up the quality of her 2nd album and this is my favourite song from that album. Great video too, looks really classy.9. Battles - Atlas. Battles are a band that have allowed me to listen to a genre of music I'd never have before considered listening too. They create a very good mesh of rhythm and sound and make a concept that really shouldn't work sound really damn good. This song really encompasses that description. I love it!8. Okkervil River Live Mixtape
2007-12-12 00:50:00 I'm gonna be on a bit of a break over the Christmas period so I'm gonna get a few posts out now while I can. Some of you will know of my infatuation for Will Sheff and his band Okkervil River from earlier posts.Well today they released a free mixtape on their website of covers recorded at their live shows. It appears the demand for this has crashed the Okkervil River website (I actually got these from pitchfork because I couldn't get it from the website)... so I'm gonna offer them up here as another option.April Anne (John Phillips)Simon Smith and The Amazing Dancing Bear (Randy Newman)I Want To Know (Charles F. Olsen/Ed Sanders)Do What You Gotta Do (Jimmy Webb)I Came Here To Say I'm Going Away (Serge Gainsbourg/Translated to English by W. Sheff)The Blonde In The Bleachers (Joni Mitchell)Antarctica Starts Here (John Cale)Listening To Otis Redding During Christmas (Will Sheff)Solo (Sandy Denny)Love, Love, Love it! Record Review - Hot Chip
2007-12-11 15:11:00 Artist: Hot Chip Album: The WarningReleased: May 22, 2006Label: EMII'm sure you're all already aware but just in case you're not, Hot Chip have a new single out with their 3rd l.p. slated for release in February 08. (Check out the single's video at the bottom)I really cannot make my mind up on whether I like it or not. I'm sure I'll come round though. However, it has prompted me to reminisce to older days and start listening to both 2004's fantastic debut album and this, the 2006 sophomore release. I encourage you to get a copy, get out of your seats and I just dare you not to enjoy it. It has everything, you can have a good sing-a-long to 'colours' and 'boys from school' and then 'over and over' can really bring out some classic mime dancing. The truely amazing this is that's only four songs in! This album is jam packed full of tunes after that that ARE ALL genuinely 'ready for the floor' and is certainly one of my favourite electro albums of the last couple years.... Record Review - Holler, Wild Rose!
2007-12-10 15:12:00 Artist: Holler, Wild Rose !Album: Our Little HymnalReleased: September 18, 2007Label: Backlight Record s Holler, Wild Rose! are not your typical post-rock/shoegaze band. Whilst maintaining the ambience and relaxation that comes hand in hand with such genres, they paint a wonderful picture (think a softer My Bloody Valentine). I’d been spinning the l.p. a lot on my p.c. for the last couple of weeks and really enjoying it. However, the records true majesty unfolded during an autumnal dusk. With massive orange storm clouds brewing out to sea this music really took on another dimension. Albums like this are very inspirational to me. I find myself sitting back wishing, wishing I could use this music as a backdrop to a film, just so I could help convey to others the feeling it gives me deep down inside. That’s quite enough sentimentality for now. Enjoy a couple of stellar tracks from one of the year's best new albums. Holler, Wild Rose! – Holler, Wild Rose Holler, Wild Rose... Fitz' Bangers and Mash... Ten
2007-12-09 02:05:00 The testimonial post it seems is upon us from myself; pretty tidy number for i plan for m'next couple to be a, 'Fitz' 2007 Best-of Comp.' followed eminently by some, 'Blissfully Christmas-related Lullabilicous Lark'...Oh the horizon... Predictable hey? Anyhow, 'nough ramblings... Onwards. (1) "Thriller" (Villain Remix) - Michael JacksonNow... I've stated that this is a remix of one of the greatest songs of all memory, which tends not to promise much initially does it?... I loved 'Thriller' probably more than i should have, probably more than is legal to be frank... But this too is a treasure. Though, it's nothing like the outlandishly majestic original - which in hindsight, probably helps me accepting it -Basically, amidst the rattles, this is a song in its own right... And I like it. Just forget about Mike when you listen to it. Please. Good. That'll be all.(2) "Kids With Guns" (Hot Chip Remix) - Gorillaz (mp3-file)Right then... This song takes about a month to truly... LOUD PIPES
2007-12-04 19:43:00 Aspiring DJ, LOUD PIPES has given me the pleasure of hooking me up with some of his remixes.LOUD PIPES Ocelot - Lo Sforzo remix has a strong electro sound that can be heard on his MySpace site: www.myspace.com/loudpipes0. Currently it's in the running of a remix contest and has said he'll hook me up with the tune when its over, unless he wins of course. Personally, I love the upbeat, electro sound of this tune and is definitely a tune to listen to just before you're going out.MP3:LOUD PIPES - Purple Crush Vacation Remix is the one I was fortunate enough of getting. This was by far my favourite tune. I absolutely love this remix. He even told me that Purple Crush themselves were impressed with it. It's a tune you can listen to if you're chilling out with your mates or by yourself, when your getting ready for night out or dancing to at a club, which is why I like it so much! It's appealing in so many ways. It's easy going upbeatness is just exhilirating.Thank you very much LOUD... More About: Loud , Pipes
Crystal Castles - Live at Sin City, Swansea - St Andrew's Day, 2007
More articles from this author:2007-12-01 16:22:00 I headed down into town late last night to catch the much hyped Crystal Castles play Sin City . 'Get Shakes' were the support band for the evening. I'd caught ear of them at the end of last year, so this was a very pleasant surprise! With their infectious noise and hard rhythms they really got the crowd in that party atmosphere. Think Justice, just with more attitude and the occasional cowbell. Awesome! Check out their myspace. Then it was time for the main show. I had really looking been forward to this for the last 2 weeks and I can't say I was disappointed. They played all of my favourites and their sound just totally exceeded my live expectations.Lead singer Alice Glass, did spend an awful lot of time rolling about on the floor but it was just that sort of evening. A really fun performance just bursting with energy. Highlight of the evening for me was the song 'Alice Practice'.In subsequent news, Crystal Castles have announced their debut l.p will be released February 19th....
