STICKY K FOR ALL
2009-05-11 07:56:00
Let me introduce you to Rod Kashani, a 21 year old producer from California who goes by the name of STICKY K. This guy has been killing it for me lately and with his debut EP signed to Dubsided records he's got a bright future ahead of him. His Bandari Funk EP is a straight up party banger, bass heavy egg on your face shit that i just cant get enough of at the moment. Sticky K has plenty of remixes out there on many other blogs but its his original tracks that really show off his production skills and make you sit up and pay attention, especially his track called "The Wierdo" that is now available to stream on his myspace page. Look out for Sticky K doing a guest Mix on Kissy Sell Out's BBC Radio 1 show in the future with promises of new original tracks and remixes of artists Larry Tee, Maluca and Diplo. Sticky K has also been an absolute dude and found time to remix mine and scattermish's track 'Hornbo' that will be getting released through the blog very soon, head to the scat...
Coming down the line.
2009-05-08 04:45:00
To be honest, I struggle to get exited about full length albums because so often there will be 3 or 4 great tracks and then a whole bunch of filler where the artist tries to demonstrate how overly eclectic there production skills are. Having got that off my chest though, when I do get exited about an upcoming album its like a kid counting the sleeps before christmas. Now not to say that the Major Lazer project needs another person hyping it up but we're talking about auto-tuned babies, Nora Dean samples, air horns, surf guitar and of course and truckload of lasers. If non of that sounds remotely fun then your probably beyond the help of modern medicine.  Getting to the point of this post though, last night in the club I caught Mu-Gen mashing together Hold the Line by Major Laser and Wha-La-La-Leng by Poirier which just struck me as one of those happy, nerdy coincidences given that an official version of the mash had turned up in my mail the day before. The remix is blazing, with G...

KELEVRA (UK)

Kelevra is straight up UK bass royalty, someone we have been well aware of for a while now. The K brings the ruckus with the Voltron styled Scatterblog this Saturday at the Espy. It is another free event, so all those wanting on the door or pre sales, all you need to do is get down early. Scat remixed the almighty Kelevra and Brian Cox tune Leanin and Swervin (here), and it is great when the event comes full circle and we can support the artist on their journey to our hometown. Douster Does Baile
2009-04-30 07:28:00
Here at the blog his name has a really solid reputation. It's rare to have an artist as prolific yet at the same time so consistent. Not only that but with each release his style develops and his production get tighter (anyone in doubt should check his Three 6 Mafia remix). More and more I'm hearing "have you got the new Douster thing" as a conversation starter cause there always seems to be some new heat floating about the nets. This track has been out a little while now and just keeps finding it's way into my sets as a mid-tempo transitional record. Like maybe moving the crowd from dancehall to baile without totally jumping ship. Out through Man Recordings on a ep which also features production by: wait for it .........The Frikstailers, El Remolon and Chancha Via Circuito. Totall no brainer.Douster Feat Mc Dandao - "Puta Qua Pario". WITH A HARD "G" CLUB MIX
2009-04-27 15:00:00
Well its been roughly four and a bit years since i did my last proper dj mix. The mix was my entry for the Red Bull Academy and so much friggin work I thought I would never do another again. It took all my homies from here submitting mixes for the detboi gig promo we did a last week to finally get me off my ass and record something. This time round I thought I would take the opposite approach and do a live "one take" kinda thing. Its not a simple mix by any means but its all me, all live. For your scratch nerds out there please take into consideration I had a broken arm at the time (excuses) but not joking.Any way this mix is a pretty good representation of what I have been jamming in the clubs down here for the last six months or so. There's some old mixes and some new ones, some exclusives, some oldies, but pretty much party town from start to finish.I had a mad ass time doing it so stay tuned for some more in the future. I'm working on a "world minimal" as Scatters likes to call...

World Minimal Hype
2009-04-26 12:23:00
Ok, so this post got taken down and i don't know why. I can't work out which tracks there's a problem with... So if you want to download the tracks, get over to our Facebook Fan Page and check out the links. Or check our Twitter.Beats of this variety have been sending us all a little crazy lately... I've always said i'm a hater of minimal, but this new wave might be turning me for the better. There's been the odd exception to the rule with liking some of this stuff throughout the years, and it seems like that hint of radness is finally starting to make a bit more sense...What's starting to push this sound forward is a kinda hype take on things - as you mighta realised we're all about hype music flowing thru tracks here. We try to put it in the tunes we make, we love to put it in our sets, and we definitely center a lot of posts around it. It's all about feeling rather than genre really. Shit that makes you throw your hands up, jump around like an idiot and shout out chants ...

HARMONIC 313
2009-04-21 07:37:00
A little more than a week ago I had the Saturday night off and so headed down to the laundry to catch Sydney producer Harmonic 313 doing a DJ set upstairs. I've been a fan of his work for a few years now but wasn't sure what to expect live (we all know great producers can often play very lousy DJ sets). Safe to say though he tore the roof off and did it with a sound that was party, but at the same time ultra futuristic! He has recently released an album on Warp which comes highly recommended but at the very least do yourself a favor and check his website, it's a color matching game that allows you to win unreleased tracks.  Here's an interlude that will serve as a good teaser for the album. Harmonic 313 - Cyclotron C64 SID. (ysi).....and here's a track he dropped at the show by the mighty Zomby. I'd listened to it a few times and thought it was pretty cool but hearing it on a big system taught me it's a banger. Oh, and you won't feel the rumbling bass through your laptop spe...

Detboi show giveaways
2009-04-15 17:09:00
So, this show is gonna be a killa!! Detboi is a long time favorite of the scatterblog. He's got his own sound and his own style, and is developing with every track he does. It's his first time over to Australia, so we just had to get all over the gig. It's also our first "Scatterblog Presents..." party to be held at revolver, so that's a big note as well.To mark it all we're gonna be giving away a limited run of USB sticks with some hot content. As mentioned below, expect some exclusive mixes (and some tracks you mighta missed) by all writers of the scatterblog, in some form. Then there's also some tracks given up by detboi, Trevor Loveys and Scottie B. You gotta get a presale ticket for $15 thru moshtix to be eligable to get one of the sticks tho, as there's only a limited amount. But considering it costs more than that to actually buy a memory stick, sounds pretty good to me. Otherwise i think tix will be between $15 and $25 on the door.Big up, there's a facebook event if ...

MIXBURN Vol.5 DJ PERPLEX (DIGITAL KILLED THE VINYL STAR)
2009-04-14 17:32:00
Here it is. Another installment of the mixburn series. This time we got one of Australia's and the worlds best dj's to mix it up Melbourne Style...Enter PerplexThere has been a trend for battle dj's to cross over into club world recently (-ie- A-Trak, Craze and DJ Klever) where they can play to bigger crowds and have a little more fun behind the decks in a little less serious/competitive world.I have known Perplex for quite some time now and watching him make this progression into the club world has been an absolute pleasure. Most peeps have known him as a battle dj, who has taken out three consecutive national DMC titles (06, 07 & 08) and competed in the world's a bunch of times. Now they will get to know him as someone at the forefront of dance music culture.... Just with mad ass skills as well. This mix has taken Perplex a ton of sweat and tears to put together but its so worth it when you listen. A large percentage of the tracks in it are exclusive mashes he has put toget...

Art Drop - Aeon
2009-04-08 17:41:00
Kicking off an intended regular weekly drop of art/graff/streetart/illustration/etc is one of Melburn's finest, Aeon (sdm, fly). Back when I was a nipper, a simple blocked, chrome Aeon popped up on the line that sparked a bit of debate among the local graff rats. Was it good, bad, too simple? Usual graff-geek shit talk, but the piece was different and I took note. Now the guy is rocking one of the best styles to ever come out of the city. Enjoy the freshness.

SINDEN AND FAKE BLOOD
2009-04-06 04:02:00
I need one fact cleared up when I am backstage: Fake blood is the man behind Wiseguys bigbeat hit "Ooh La La" and word has it that he got sued by Vidal Sassoon for sampling a lyric that vagualy resembles a shout out to the brand. If this is true then ladies (and metro's) sulo bin your Vidal. I am sure you all know of Fakeblood and Sinden , it is amazing how monu-mental both artists have been to next level club music, but follow it up with a g'day and happy easter on their myspace pages. If you need some schooling follow the links to Fakeblood Essential mixes and The Count and Sinden's MEGA MEGA MEGA mixes. Bobby Sock On The Transfer
2009-04-06 03:01:00
At Scatterblog I'm like the in-house transfer monkey. Still I come across stuff on wax that works in the club and now with so so many dj's going digital, collections are constantly coming up for sale. Here are just a few 12s I'v come across and converted into mp3 for the purpose of playing out. Bmore deadstock! This track is everything I love about Technics production. Stripped back yet at the same time ferocious. Released on King of Klub records.Dj Technics - The Projects. (ysi)This is possibly the most hype rapping I'v heard. It's a call and response kind of fast booty rap with female backup rappers that sound about 12 years old. No brainer. Prince Rahiem - Hydraulic. (ysi)Recently I'v been making trips across town to buy records off Scatterblog's own Paz. Not only do I always return with a stack of dope 12s, but it's also an opportunity to pick his brain about music as the guy has a seriously deep understanding of club. Apparently he saved this from a $2 bin somewhere.Dj ...

WINKLEPICKER RULES
2009-04-02 11:44:00
Ok, so after a pretty dull last year party wise Melbourne seems to be picking up the pace and putting some quality shows on around town. Enter WINKLEPICKER. They threw their first party last month and it was talked about by pretty much everyone around town for weeks. It seems that this time they are putting the pressure on themselves and making this one bigger, better and way more ridiculous.Everyone entering gets these crazy glasses that will do some sort of trippy shit to your eyes. Artworks, games and all sorts of illusions have been put all around the club for people to loose their shit too either in reality or on the dance floor. As the blurb says "We want to party, you want to party. It?s more interesting with another dimension."One of the best local lineups I have seen too. Scatterblogs PAZ is opening things up followed by whom I think are the three best "team dj" talents around. First 1fish 2fish, I don't need to say anymore about them after Mat's mega post. Then the ...

Sins On Sunday All-Stars
2009-04-01 15:00:00
Honestly i can not wait for this Friday because two of my favourite events are coming together to throw one hell of a party! Sins On Sunday has been killing it for the past 6 months down in geelong and it just keeps getting bigger and better, there is nothing on a Sunday in Melbourne that comes close to this party! This Friday the Sins crew have joined up with The Late Show and are holding an All-stars night at mine and everyone's favourite venue Revolver. The Late Show Fridays at Revolver lately have been amazing, its seems to be getting a lot of hype and anyone that was there for the Trevor Loveys gig a couple of weeks ago will know how much of a party it is. The All-stars include myself Mat Cant, 1 Fish Two Fish, Malakai and special guest late show superhero Nick Thayer. These dudes are my number 1's, they make me strive to be better every time i play with them and i would do anything for them. One of the creators of Sins On Sunday and all round Dope Cat, Finn Whitla aka Malaka...

Askew
2009-03-28 10:35:00
Some years ago, there were a few months in Melbourne where almost every train I'd catch seemed to have an 'Askew' back-on. Not long after I caught the guy painting on a WCA production with a pretty unique, liquidy 3d style. Since then I've followed his work, forever impressed by a consistent evolution of style. Today was no different, except that his new 'Revok' piece absolutely floored me. It's balance of design elements to letter structure is next level. One of the best pieces I've seen in years.(click to see piece in full)More from Askew here
Dubbel Dutching
2009-03-25 04:23:00
Dubbel Dutch is a name that's been popping up more and more in recent times. He has an individual sound and take on bass, party and fidgety music, which seems to be developing in every new track or remix that he does. Although i've been following his tracks, and blog, In Robots We Trust for quite a while, it was after he did a remix for Digital Manges that i really fell head over heals for his sound, and really took notice of his talents. His take on "Manges" is basically a really smart remix - but is so without losing anything in the party department. He's used the original samples in a new way, cutting them up, changing them around and re-sampling them to delight. He's re-interpreted the breakdown synth pattern with his own bit of wobble and done plenty more. The track vibes, and has been sending peeps wild whenever i drop it. You'll have to check his myspace player for a preview of the song, as the release (also featuring supa remixes by Sharkslayer and JKamata and possibly...

El Remolon
2009-03-13 03:47:00
So, the mighty Slap n Dash have hit the road leaving Paz, Mat and myself to hold down the Scatterblog sound in Melbourne over the next week. Just in time for the task I'v come across a whole bunch of dope tracks so thought I'd share some of them around. Man have I been getting my Cumbia on lately! This stuff always has me first thinking it's just some Lo Fi isht that should actually be playing at 45 until 16 bars in when it has me bouncing round the room like a lunatic. El Remolon brings what almost sounds like a slow version of Township Funk with loads of snares and a bass line to stay in your head for days. Peep the MGMT style lead synth in the dying moments! Can't help but think this sound will be huge in 09.El Remolon - Zapatillas Galacticas. (ysi).While I'm here, something more on the dancehall tip thats been good to me lately. Tucked away on the b-side of the Frikstailers debut ep it's a blazing remix of the mighty MC Zulu. One of those tracks that moves through a bunch ...
