Bobby Sock On The Transfer
2009-04-06 03:01:00
At Scatterblog I'm like the in-house transfer monkey. Still I come across stuff on wax that works in the club and now with so so many dj's going digital, collections are constantly coming up for sale. Here are just a few 12s I'v come across and converted into mp3 for the purpose of playing out. Bmore deadstock! This track is everything I love about Technics production. Stripped back yet at the same time ferocious. Released on King of Klub records.Dj Technics - The Projects. (ysi)This is possibly the most hype rapping I'v heard. It's a call and response kind of fast booty rap with female backup rappers that sound about 12 years old. No brainer. Prince Rahiem - Hydraulic. (ysi)Recently I'v been making trips across town to buy records off Scatterblog's own Paz. Not only do I always return with a stack of dope 12s, but it's also an opportunity to pick his brain about music as the guy has a seriously deep understanding of club. Apparently he saved this from a $2 bin somewhere.Dj ...

WINKLEPICKER RULES
2009-04-02 11:44:00
Ok, so after a pretty dull last year party wise Melbourne seems to be picking up the pace and putting some quality shows on around town. Enter WINKLEPICKER. They threw their first party last month and it was talked about by pretty much everyone around town for weeks. It seems that this time they are putting the pressure on themselves and making this one bigger, better and way more ridiculous.Everyone entering gets these crazy glasses that will do some sort of trippy shit to your eyes. Artworks, games and all sorts of illusions have been put all around the club for people to loose their shit too either in reality or on the dance floor. As the blurb says "We want to party, you want to party. It?s more interesting with another dimension."One of the best local lineups I have seen too. Scatterblogs PAZ is opening things up followed by whom I think are the three best "team dj" talents around. First 1fish 2fish, I don't need to say anymore about them after Mat's mega post. Then the ...

Sins On Sunday All-Stars
2009-04-01 15:00:00
Honestly i can not wait for this Friday because two of my favourite events are coming together to throw one hell of a party! Sins On Sunday has been killing it for the past 6 months down in geelong and it just keeps getting bigger and better, there is nothing on a Sunday in Melbourne that comes close to this party! This Friday the Sins crew have joined up with The Late Show and are holding an All-stars night at mine and everyone's favourite venue Revolver. The Late Show Fridays at Revolver lately have been amazing, its seems to be getting a lot of hype and anyone that was there for the Trevor Loveys gig a couple of weeks ago will know how much of a party it is. The All-stars include myself Mat Cant, 1 Fish Two Fish, Malakai and special guest late show superhero Nick Thayer. These dudes are my number 1's, they make me strive to be better every time i play with them and i would do anything for them. One of the creators of Sins On Sunday and all round Dope Cat, Finn Whitla aka Malaka...

Askew
2009-03-28 10:35:00
Some years ago, there were a few months in Melbourne where almost every train I'd catch seemed to have an 'Askew' back-on. Not long after I caught the guy painting on a WCA production with a pretty unique, liquidy 3d style. Since then I've followed his work, forever impressed by a consistent evolution of style. Today was no different, except that his new 'Revok' piece absolutely floored me. It's balance of design elements to letter structure is next level. One of the best pieces I've seen in years.(click to see piece in full)More from Askew here
Dubbel Dutching
2009-03-25 04:23:00
Dubbel Dutch is a name that's been popping up more and more in recent times. He has an individual sound and take on bass, party and fidgety music, which seems to be developing in every new track or remix that he does. Although i've been following his tracks, and blog, In Robots We Trust for quite a while, it was after he did a remix for Digital Manges that i really fell head over heals for his sound, and really took notice of his talents. His take on "Manges" is basically a really smart remix - but is so without losing anything in the party department. He's used the original samples in a new way, cutting them up, changing them around and re-sampling them to delight. He's re-interpreted the breakdown synth pattern with his own bit of wobble and done plenty more. The track vibes, and has been sending peeps wild whenever i drop it. You'll have to check his myspace player for a preview of the song, as the release (also featuring supa remixes by Sharkslayer and JKamata and possibly...

So this week i got a bit bored and decided to record some of the tracks that i have been playing for the last month, get something recorded that i can share with you all. Since i don't have a job during the week i decided to call it "While You Are Working ... El Remolon
2009-03-13 03:47:00
So, the mighty Slap n Dash have hit the road leaving Paz, Mat and myself to hold down the Scatterblog sound in Melbourne over the next week. Just in time for the task I'v come across a whole bunch of dope tracks so thought I'd share some of them around. Man have I been getting my Cumbia on lately! This stuff always has me first thinking it's just some Lo Fi isht that should actually be playing at 45 until 16 bars in when it has me bouncing round the room like a lunatic. El Remolon brings what almost sounds like a slow version of Township Funk with loads of snares and a bass line to stay in your head for days. Peep the MGMT style lead synth in the dying moments! Can't help but think this sound will be huge in 09.El Remolon - Zapatillas Galacticas. (ysi).While I'm here, something more on the dancehall tip thats been good to me lately. Tucked away on the b-side of the Frikstailers debut ep it's a blazing remix of the mighty MC Zulu. One of those tracks that moves through a bunch ...

The Future Is A Ghetto
2009-03-02 05:59:00
Two tracks here on an electro / ghetto tip. First up we have the Michna (aka Egg Foo Young) remix of Freaky Bitches by Andrea Parker. Late last year Touchin' Bass revisited a 2002 ghettotech collaboration between Andrea Parker, Dj Godfather and Assault releasing two stellar 12s of electro remixes. Michna's interpretation is by far the most club orientated and while on your laptop speakers it might sound a little straight forward, trust me when I say it really kicks on a big system. Andrea Parker - Freaky Bitches (Michna remix) (alt link) Secondly by Pussycat we have a Miami Bass monster from the ghetto's of Rotterdam! I read their brief bio on the Creme Organization website which states future releases are unlikely due to the fact 2 members are serving long prison sentences for illegal drug and cigarette trade! Download and vinyl are available from Global Darkness. Pussycat - Vocal Lick (alt link)

SCATTERBLOG EDU K SHOW REPORT
2009-02-26 04:54:00
Well for anyone who was there thank you, for the people that were not, you missed out big time. Last Saturday was pretty much one of the most rad gigs I have ever been a part of.The party started at around ten with Lewis Cancut (aka Bobby Sock Girl) opening things up. The little fella walked out, threw his hands in the air, yelled some abuse at the crowd, then proceeded to play one crazy as fuck world/hip hop set. I play at the ESPY a lot and have never seen that many people getting down to the first dj, pretty much as soon as he started. Kudos Lewis, Kudos. The venue just kept filling up more and more as Mat Cant & Paz hyped the dance floor. Both dudes know how to kill a party (in the good sense of the word). Mat was on his b'more, party town vibe making people sweat, whilst Paz tore up the world/club joints to a salivating crowd. I have never had so many people ask me "what's that track?" before, as they did when Paz was doing his thing.Next up was Scattermish and I (Mu-Gen) ...

Scatterblog Music Begins!!!!
2009-02-18 16:24:00
Oh the excitement. Not only that, but i feel real proud of all this. The Scatterblog just keeps getting bigger and better and wider and fatter. So as you might have read in the last few posts, we're turning into a label - Scatterblog Music !! It's not any regular label though, it's a blog label, in every form of the term. Everything we release is going to be put up, on the blog, as free releases!!! Don't get it twisted tho, this isn't gonna be any half arsed shitty label that posts lame tracks by nobodies that couldn't get a release anywhere else. They're gonna be dope releases, with big, rare and/or awesome names on the remix, and seriously good original tracks. We've already got some great local and international talent confirmed, but you're just gonna have to wait to hear those names and tracks. We're gonna move to scatterblog.com in the next few days too. I'll get a new page going, and it'll be easy to find stuff like scatterblog music releases. So onto the release. The f...
INTRODUCING...
2009-02-17 10:53:00
Lewis CanCut signing in for first time blog duties. I'm the last of the Scatterblog posse to post and as an introduction here are three tracks that lately i'v been playing out at every opportunity. Coincidently all South American style. This joint is everything I Love about Kuduro, super clean, bouncy and full of structure yet somehow still really minimal (how do they do it?). Have been following Ku-Bo for a while now and they've seriously notched things up on this release. Features killer vocals from Tshila. Ku-Bo Feat Tshila - Kuggua (alt link) Uproot Andy from Brooklyn brings serious Cumbia heat. I'll admit that I slept on Cumbia for a while (something about those accordions) but I'm now totally converted. If you dig this then check out the Bersa Discos comp's as they have this sound pretty well covered. Uproot Andy - El Botellon (alt link)Finally a track by Voltair that's been around for a while now, yet never seemed to get the play it deserved. Anyhow lets make up...

Well what a weekend, i was busy as hell and traveled way too much than i wanted to but it wasn't all work and no play. On Sunday i hit up the Good Vibrations Festival in Melbourne and had a rad time, big Paz was rocking the Jager tent playing his much loved Soca music, chest hair and all, just for the ladies. While i was there i ran into Steve Lind from the one and only Hump Day Project, one of my favorite groups out there, they always bring the heat! Steve was a super nice dude so i thought i would post up one of his edits that i have been playing out everywhere lately...Steve Lind - Funky What (zshare) (alt link)Also check out the Troublemaker project that steve is apart of as well, there is heaps of tunes on there to download and loads of information about what troublemakers is all about, CHECK IT!While I'm talking about sydney cats i thought i better post up some work from my boy LunyP. This dude is always making new remixes, always sending me files and there always great fun!...

STATE OF RAGE

Our state is on fire and I almost completed this post without mentioning were we can make donations. A lot of people have lost their lives, they are expecting up to 300 deaths, it is really sad. Some stories are of peoples bodies being welded together, the stories of escape are like nothing I have ever heard. Well time is nearly nigh and a barrage of gutter hype is about to be unleashed on an unsuspecting world. I don't want to say much in this post cause I'm pretty sure the man and the brains (Scattermish) behind this new endeavour has something all meaningful and shit to say to you all about what is actually going on here. All I'm writing about, as I get all proud and stuff, is to let you guys know about the new Scatterblog Music Myspace that has just been created by Mat Cant. It gives you a preview of some of the new joints to be released on our Real Music For Hustlers LP. We are trying to be completely self sufficient here these days, with Paz doing the art, and Scatters on one of the most tight masters no money can buy.Everyone here has contributed in every way possible and I just wanna say it's been a mad massive pleasure. Big ups and thank you to everyone involved, especially Scattermish. Now what kind of low life would I be if i didn't give you something to make you wanna d...

This is... SERIOUS
2009-02-09 15:02:00
Damn, two bits of heat to post today, and two tracks that have become staple in my sets if I do something hip hop or bass. The man in behind them is Andy H.He's been a DJ for 10 years, and is quite the turntablist. He co-founded First Word Records, and is a regular at what looks like and has been revered as the hottest mid-week hip hop and drum n bass night in the UK, Tuesday Club in Sheffield. Check a snippet of andy doing his thing at the club in this video. So onto the tunes... Andy's track "Kick Kick" is a fine bit of 110bpm hip hop bliss - filled with a big n dope bass line which i love finding in tracks at this speed (hands up to Danny Breaks on that tip also). The beat always manages to get people shaking something, and i find me mu-gen and lewis always fighting to be the first one to play the tune on a night.Andy H - Kick Kick (alt link)-you can buy the tune out on the Two Syllables EP 3, thru First Word RecordsThe other jawn is "Serious", the dubstepy bit of cool that just...

DEADBEAT - KEEPING IT ALIVE
2009-02-03 13:31:00
Very deep sounds this Saturday 07/02/09 at F4. I know AC23 and Kammo rule dubstep in Melbourne, so it is great to be on a great bill like this. Deadbeat is mainly from Canada but part of him has partied in Berlin, so he has a very dub tech streak. This is one for the bassbins alongside a cross section of Melburn's premiere minimal heads Mike Callander (somehow Mike and I are on the same Melbourne label called Freakshow Disco) and Dave Pham, and the new dad Declan Kelly, and bP, who holds tight a world bass sound. I really like the photo session by Lars Borges for Deadbeats press shots.I posted an old Deadbeat track somehow titled Melbourne Round Midnight. Very "time space dub" stuff, no real Euro energy in it. To compensate for the sometimes furious dub tech sounds Melb's loves, I posted this track by Polymorphic thanks to Carmine at Low Life Inc NYC. It is about 126 bpm and really works for that dubstep double time tech drop, when you need to switch up.Deadbeat - Melbourne Round ...

Well, we are starting to rule big time down here south of the equator. Or is it that the world is starting to pay attention? Don't really know or care, either way tons of local joints dropping recently all seem to be making their way into my playlist. It makes me all proud and stuff to be posting a collab between two of my favourite Aussie artists.Out now on the home grown, and way rad label SWEAT IT OUT is a new release from super fine Sydney duo Killa Queenz. I have been doing gigs with these girls for a few years now and they get better every time I bare witness. To top off the release, there is a bunch of remixes from the likes of South Rakkas Crew, Zombie Disco Squad, Yolanda Be Cool and of course the heat in the basket, and my homeboy, Melbourne's own Ooh-Ee remix.Ooh-Ee is on another dimension at the moment. From talking to him of late he seems to be making music for himself, which is where all good things come from I say. Be prepared for melodic basslines and emotive chor...

Anyone who knows me knows that i love nothing better than a big Baltimore Club track but lately ive been listening to a lot of different music and im finding that my BPMs are creeping up higher and higher, i totally agree with Paz that 140 is the new 130! Anyway one artist that is KILLING IT for me right now is Chase & Status from London, their take on drum & bass/electronica/dubstep is taking me back to when i was all about the amen break. TITTS AHOY
2009-01-21 07:29:00
Well it looks like Melbourne is becoming the second home to Baltimore club music. Recently we have had pretty much every big name including Scottie B, Dave Nada, Bird Peterson and Sammy Banana's hit our shores skooling the youngins with a loose your shit, party fulled club sound. Although Baltimore club has been around since the early 90's, it's todays b'more performers that are flipping it into a sound that everyone seems to be hyping on. It aint just about rocking the Lyn Collins breaks anymore, it's bigger than that! One of the guys pushing it beyond it's birth is Tittsworth. The guy is rad and word has it from our friends accross the pond (NZ) that this tour is no let down. He is playing in Melbourne this friday the 23rd at Roxanne Parlour (Coverlid Place CBD). Expect some crazy shit from him and all the locals supporting including Tranterco(Gameboy Gamegirl), Opulent DJ's, Emillionzzz and of course yours truly Mu-Gen. To celebrate I thought I would post some new and old T...
