Recording from Webcast 10/25/08: Every Town Has a Rich Part of Town
2008-11-01 17:36:00
olec2008-10-25d1t06 I wish that I had more time to make more recordings and write more tunes but I should at the same time congratulate myself on the fact that, even though it’s going out via internet, I’m actually performing more in the recent past than I have for ages. Having a musical output while at the same time teaching school is not an easy trick. At some point I’ll get some more writing done but for now I’m racking up some solo recordings and that’s fine.  Next performance will be at 11 am Pacific Time on 11/08/08, Saturday morning yet again.  Visit the OLEC kyte.tv page. When I perform live it’s not always perfect though it’s, basically, always good. I do really hit it sometimes though and when I get a good live recording of a tune it’s almost always the way I prefer to hear my own stuff. This is a very solid recording of a very solid tune, “Every Town Has a Rich Part of Town.” Of the batch I’m sitting...

Webcast Trial Run, with audio, “Long Black Veil,” N95 comment.

olec2008-10-18d1t01 “Long Black Veil”, 10/18/2008. Tried a test run of a webcast via kyte.tv, using my laptop’s webcam.  Tried to have the audio go through my Pro Tools setup, and it may indeed have done so, but I was not able to see the video after the fact to verify what went through, owing to some snag with kyte.tv.  I tested what the sound was like without the Pro Tools system running and was less than pleased with the audio quality, though the video worked very nicely as far as I could tell.  I then tried using my high-powered cell phone, a buffed-out Nokia N95 with significantly better results.  So what I’ll do next Saturday is use my cell phone for the broadcast and then record the audio in hi-fi to process later.  It will work nicely. The above recording is one of seven I made yesterday, playing through a short set, shorter than I’ll do next Saturday.  Max Gerber has always told me he liked how I played this song, and this is as good a rec...

First rehearsal for Our Lady of Easy Credit yesterday, in Oakland with Scarth Locke on guitar.  The plan is to get a five-song demo ready to go by winter.  We will, the two of us (and possibly some others depending on the logistics), record some basic tracks live and then have other musicians overdub the ...

mp3 download: Mont gomery Street This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 United States License. So I was taking the J to work and a homeless guy got on and sat next to me. He didn’t look good at all but it was clear to me he wasn’t crazy. He was in terrible shape, all beaten up. I’m usually pretty friendly and I don’t judge too often because I’ve been judged plenty, but I was tongue-tied. Sometimes I guess I don’t know what to say to people. Anyway, this is a tune that isn’t autobiographical at all, except that I kept remembering this guy as I wrote it. It’s just me and guitar. The melody is basically taken from “The Road and the Miles to Dundee.” I came into this world as if left upon a doorstep I’ll exit it in turn without record of my stay On Montgomery Street one midnight I was robbed and I was beaten I spent six hours in the stairwell until the car took me away I was stitched and splint...

Yesterday all servers in the U.S. went out on strike in a bid to get more RAM and better CPUs. A spokes person said that the need for better RAM was due to some fool increasing the front-side bus speed. In future, busses will be told to slow down in residential motherboards.

If you've read anything at all about Content Management Systems (CMS), you'll probably know at least three things: CMS are the most exciting way to do business, CMS can be really, I mean really, complicated and lastly Portals are absolutely, outrageously, often unaffordably expensive. Joomla ! is set to change all that ... Joomla! is different from the normal models for portal software. For a start, it's not complicated. Joomla! has been developed for the masses. It's licensed under the GNU/GPL license, easy to install and administer and reliable. Joomla! doesn't even require the user or administrator of the system to know HTML to operate it once it's up and running.
