“My girlfriend and I started smoking pot, which was such an out there thing for me to do given my upbringing”. This pretty much sums up Jesca Hoop . An eccentric song bird, Hoop was raised in a mormon household. This upbringing taught her music from the very beginning. When she was young, her mom crafted her a stage on which to perform. Her sound  is very upbeat, and it makes one get the sense of inner tranquility.  The song reminds me of the vocals of Lilly Allen mixed with some Björk-ness. This all instrumental band was the creation of one great producer Paul Aucoin. The off and on again group created a new album, which is amazing. I might be partial because I am a percussionist, but I think the use of the Vibes as part of the melody is wonderful. This group has a really full sound, the drums aren’t overpowering, and they play really well together. This is one of the best “indie” ensembles I have ever heard!
