Darts - Hollywood Drag [1964]
2007-12-19 16:03:00 Del-Fi Records founder Bob Keane gathered an aggregate of all-star studio talent to adopt the persona of a variety of musical units, essentially cashing in on the youth-driven hotrod craze of the early- to mid-'60s. One such unit were the Darts , whose lineup boasted contributions from future Redbone co-founders Lolly Vegas (guitar) and Pat Vegas (bass), Glen Campbell (guitar), David Gates (guitar), Earl Palmer (drums), Michel Rubini (keyboards), Leon Russell (keyboards) — who was going under the name Russell Bridges — Plas Johnson (sax), Dale Hallcom (bass) and Larry Bright (guitar). They had previously collaborated with Keane on a pair of comparable LPs by other ad hoc combos, namely the De-Fenders and the Deuce Coupes. Hollywood Drag (1963) was the final of the three hi-fi collections for gear-heads and the only one that Keane cut at his own Hollywood digs. Ever the showman and hands-on producer, he also embellished several of the selections with automotive sound effects to â... More About: Olly
O' Haras - Devil's Desert [1998]
2007-12-15 17:11:00 The O'Haras main mission is to bring over the original surf music passion, taking you with them to californian beaches, spanish bodegas, arabian deserts... having a hell of a party on the way. Often found on the same bill as the Fifty Foot Combo, The Whodads, The Revelaires and The Seatsniffers, their music is an instrumental melting pot of surf, rockabilly, punk and western, spiced with ska, flamenco and jazz. Call it power-surfabilly , flamenco-surf or whatever you want, with the O'Haras, Twinstreet Bookings offers you pure instrumental passion, straight from the heart... and the balls! You can book The O'Haras now together with the fantastic Stand-Up Comedian Alex Agnew as a "Stand-Up Surf" band !! [Twinstreet Bookings]Phil Dirt; This is one unique CD. The band is from Belgium. They are instrumental, with a heavy foundation in surf, but strained through intense distortion and reverb, salted with flamenco, and baked until it weighs a ton. Very intense, powerful, and refreshing. T... More About: Desert

Johnny Fortune - The Soul Surfer [1963]
2007-12-11 21:21:00 Session performer, bassist, and guitarist Johnny Fortune has been in the music business a long time. In the early years, he did session work for big names like Sam Cooke, Barbara George, Glen Campbell, and he even toured with the Beach Boys. In 1963, when Fortune was only 16, he recorded Soul Surfer under the Park Avenue Records label. The album held popular surf tracks like "Sunset" and "Surf Rider." Sax player Jim O'Keith and ten-year-old drummer Joey Sudetta both lent their talents to the album. Soul Surfer received good reviews and earned Fortune a marvelous invitation from Johnny Burnette to tour through England. Unfortunately, because of his young age, Fortune was not able to go. Switching over to country music, Fortune was nominated for a Nashville Music Trailblazer award in 1997. Working under the Media Records label, he recorded Life Goes On. The album, with tracks like "What Do You Think About That," "I Got a Woman," and "She Just Don't Care," was released in 1999. [Allm...

Nebulas - Nebula One [VBR]
2007-12-07 19:42:00 Hailing from Somerville Massachusetts, The Nebula s couldn't be further away from the warm sunny beaches where surf-instrumental music originated. Who ever said you needed warm weather to play kick ass rock 'n roll surf music anyway? These boys play as if they were born in the back seat of woodie with a surfboard in their hands. With the best of the old and the power and electrical charged sounds of today, this band rocks you from the opening track straight through to the closer.- Keith Hannalecklets get serious again after that xmas stuff! keith is right and maybe one of the best 'high tide' versions is included on this album. i love these dark and heavy reverberated sounds. great album!! 5 stars to me!as alwaysthe dwarfoops

Blue Hawaiians - Christmas on Big Island [320k]
2007-12-04 15:16:00 phil dirt said: A Blue Hawaiian Yule is a mix of surf guitar, surf riffs, reverb, Hawaiian guitar, Don Ho-isms, dinner at Martin Denny's, and a nap in a little grass shack populated with hula dancers. It contains both vocals & instros, recorded with the laid-back precise stylings the Blue Hawaiians always supplies. This is a necessary addition to your holiday CD stash. The sound is clean and crisp.one of my real favourite albums for christmas. other than phil my rating would be *****! excellent played, beautiful engineered and re-ripped in beautiful 320k.1. Gein & the Graverobbers - The Passion of the Anti-Christ [2005]
2007-11-28 21:06:00 Phil Dirt; Gein and the Graverobbers present 13 tales from your nightmares. Most are very similar, many non-melodic, yet there's something magnetic about looking in the face of darkness.Barracuda Magazine; Gein and the Graverobbers have established themselves as Boston's premiere instrumental Horror Surf quartet. What is "Horror Surf?" Its Fender guitars saturated in reverb, shredding through high-energy songs brimming with horror and oozing atmosphere. With Gein, Kemper, and DeSalvo decked out in torn black suits, ties and zombie make-up -- and Myra in her mini skirt and go-go boots -- the band looks like a cross between characters from a Tarantino film and something out of "Night of the Living Dead." The amps adorned in skeletons and jack-o-lanterns lend a haunted housee feel to the stage presence. When these go-go ghouls mix the traditional surf sounds of artists like Dick Dale with the eeriness of the Cramps, they take their audience into a world of B-movie horror. Gein and th... die sputniks & franke-echo-quintett ''die frühen jahre"
More articles from this author:2007-11-27 17:42:00 ha you wont believe it! there was surf related stuff behind the iron curtain!listen to two of the leading instrumental groups of the former german democratic republic. for the kids: this was the eastern part of germany;-). ask your teacher please!dont mix up the sputniks with the spotniks: these one are far better. really amazing to listen to music that was controlled by gouvernment. it was officially forbidden to sing in imperialistic english, to give up underground some bands created the 'BIG BEAT' sound. always instrumental and highly enjoyable if u know these people had no nice guitars, nice amplifiers and other stuff to run a good sounding band. the GDR had some extreme high quality factories for microphones and acoustic instruments but no way for people to buy it. just for export to get some hard cash. sad one as alwaysthe dwarfoops 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 |
