After releasing The Big Bang in 2006, Busta Rhymes ' life became engulfed in controversy and tragedy. Now, two years removed from the drama, Busta is back to silence his critics and address the haters with his new album, I'm Blessed. SOHH had a chance to hear a preview of Busta's eight-studio album, last night at a private listening session in Manhattan. The rapper (born Trevor Smith) took the opportunity to inform invited guests that his spirits were high despite enduring a tumultuous two years, which saw the Flipmode General lose the life of his best friend and bodyguard Israel Ramirez; and face two counts of assaults charges and a DUI. It ended in Busta being sentenced to three years probation. Lupe Fiasco Talks "Hip Hop Saved My Life"

In an interview with MTV, Lupe Fiasco has revealed that ?Hip Hop Saved My Life ,? the latest single from his album The Cool, paid homage to two southern hip-hop mainstays. The song is dedicated to Houston mainstay Bun B?a result, Lupe says, of when he visited Houston to do a show. Timbaland Takes Songwriter Of The Year Award

The American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers [ASCAP] gave Timbaland its Songwriter of the Year award during their 25th annual Pop Music Award s on Wednesday [April 9]. Timbaland had a hand in producing nine of ASCAP's 60 most performed songs and 12 of the songs listed in Billboard's annual Hot 100 singles for 2007. Timbaland has also been awarded the ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Songwriter of the Year on two previous occasions. While Hip Hop has been hit the hardest by the decline in physical music sales, Timbaland's award marks an increased presence in the Pop market in the latter part of the last decade. Since 2003, the Songwriter of The Year award has gone to Nelly, 50 Cent [who won in both 2004 and 2006], Scott Storch and Jermaine Dupri. The increase of Hip Hop artists in the Pop market could also be a likely explanation for the recent spike in publishing royalties. As the hype builds towards the release of Lil Wayne 's The Carter III, the album cover leaked online today. Amazon.com has posted this image.....as the cover for Weezy's highly anticipated album dropping in May. There has been much speculation that this is not the actual artwork for the release. Not to mention that photographer, Jonathon Mannion, told a completely different story about what the album cover's concept would be [click to read]. Wayne's label, Universal, has not commented as of yet.

It looks like Diddy is at it again! Making the Band male-group Day 26 rules the charts with their self-titled debut album selling 189k this week. The ladies of Diddy's Danity Kane, though #1 last week, have dropped to #4 selling 88k. They were beat out by debuts from Panic at the Disco and Counting Crows, respectively.
