T.I. Associate's Murder Unlocked, Shooter & Motive Identified
2008-03-12 16:20:00 Details surrounding the murder of T.I.'s personal assistant and friend, Philant Johnson, have recently been revealed. As SOHH previously reported, Philant Johnson was killed on a Cincinnati highway in a hail of bullets on May 2, 2006 after an altercation broke out between Tip, members of his Grand Hustle label and another group of patrons at Cincinnati's Club Ritz. Now, according to Atlanta radio station, V103, sources claim that authorities know who the triggerman is and have also learned the motive behind the crime through another unrelated arrest. During "The Ryan Cameron Show," the radio host reported that the motive for the shooting may be over a promoter mistakenly thinking he had T.I. booked for an after party. The promoter supposedly found out that he had been duped by a person who said they could secure an appearance from the rapper. When they found out that T.I. was at another party he went to the location with several other men and waited for T.I. to lea... More About: Murder , Shooter , Motive , Unlocked

More Video Trouble For Gnarls Barkley
2008-03-12 15:53:00 Gnarls Barkley is preparing to shoot a video for "Who's Gonna Save My Soul," which will be the second single from the sophomore effort The Odd Couple. Meanwhile, as the edited version of their first single, "Run" continues to play on the American edition of MTV, the video is still currently banned from MTV UK for the same issue that initially caused it to be delayed stateside. The clip continues to fail the Harding Test. The test was devised to prevent episodes of photosensitive epilepsy which occur when flickering images or patterns appear at a frequency ranging between 25 and 50 hertz (cycles per second). Since the initial domestic ban of the video, Gnarls Barkley has made some minor edits to the video. "It seemed justifiable to hesitate a bit to make sure it didn't result in something severe," Cee-Lo tells The Hollywood Reporter. "We just focused on any compromise we could come to. We didn't get too agitated -- we just concentrated our focus on how we could resolve the problem... More About: Video , Gnarls Barkley

Witness Testifies Against Remy Ma
2008-03-12 15:44:00 Remy Ma's assault trial continued in Manhattan today (March 12). 21-year-old Oluwole Ajudun testified at the trial today that he saw Remy cock a .45-caliber handgun and get into the car with Makeda Barnes Joseph, whom Remy is accused of shooting. According to the Associated Press, Ajudun made it know that Joseph was "like a sister to me," and that he had known her for about six years. The witness, who is an accounting student, testified that after a party in Greenwich Village on July 14, 2007, he saw Remy get out of her Cadillac Escalade with what he described as a "sliver chrome" gun. "I saw her cock it back and jump in Makeda's car," he said. Ajudun then said that he heard a pop moments later, and saw Remy leave Joseph's car. Ajudun's testimony followed that of Crystal Ricks, who said she saw Remy approach Joseph's car, but did not see a gun. Ricks did, however, hear a pop, see a flash, and saw Remy step out of Joseph's car, but never saw her with the gun. Currently, Remy is... More About: Witness , Remy Ma , Remy

The set will be broken down into 10 chapters, which incorporate different works into a complete narrative backed by the sounds of Big Boi. The Atlanta Ballet has confirmed that Big Boi will perform "Morris Brown," which was his lead single from the Idlewild soundtrack. Prodigy Speaks On Jay-Z, Nas, Little Brother, Soulja Boy & More
2008-03-12 00:26:00 Mobb Deep?s Prodigy (Albert Johnson) had some harsh words for the Hip Hop community earlier. In an extremely long blog, Prodigy let off more than a few vocal barbs towards a laundry list of who?s who in hip-hop, while proclaiming himself and label mate 50 Cent as the ?future of the planet.? In the opening portion of his rant, Prodigy exclaims that he and 50 Cent are the ?voice of the hood and the voice of the future of this planet. Everybody copies prodigy?s rap, slang, dress code, tattoos, hairstyles, jewelery [sic] and more. Same for 50.? Prodigy then attacks a long list of emcees including Cassidy, Fat Joe, Jim Jones, Cam?ron, Lupe Fiasco, Talib Kweli, Joe Budden, Jay-Z, Nas, Phonte, Saigon, Keith Murray. The attack on Fat Joe is not surprising considering the feud brewing between the Terror Squad and G-Unit camps and the release of the G-Unit mixtape, Elephant in the Sand [click here to listen]. Prodigy goes on to state how the previously mentioned emcees ?suck to the maximum p... More About: Brother , Soulja Boy , Little Brother , Soulja

Polow Da Don Robbed At Gun Point?
2008-03-11 19:37:00 After reports of hit-making producer Polow Da Don being robbed at gunpoint last night hit the net, the Atlanta-based producer released a press release about the story. Early reports say masked gunmen broke in on a recording session and forced him and a group of men alongside him to the floor. It's been speculated that Polow and the other Zone 4 affiliates in the studio were robbed of money and jewelry but no one was hurt. Polow released a statement this afternoon calling his attackers weak and saying their attempt failed. "They thought they came to rob me, but I have heart and I have God shawty ...These crack head ass n*ggaz I guess called themselves robbing me, but we robbed them. I wasn't scared I was mad," Polow said via his Blackberry. "I was likes 'these dumb ass, weak ass n*ggas.' n*ggas don't get it. You gone have to shoot me because until then, I don't believe you. New Eminem Song Produced by Dj Premier
2008-03-11 17:32:00 Back in the 90?s it seemed that in order to be somebody you couldn?t possibly do an album without the legendary DJ Premier stamping his trademark production. From Nas to Jay-Z and everyone in between, a DJ Premier track made every artist worth talking about official. These days, those calls have dwindled as the younger crop of emcees have opted to go another route while Premier nurtures a new batch of emcees. But there?s one person that needs that extra punch to make his comeback official and he picked up the phone to make that call? Marshall Mathers aka Slim Shady aka Eminem "I just got a call from Eminem," Primo revealed exclusively to HipHopDX. The song, titled ?Keys To The City,? will indeed be on Eminem?s upcoming album (possibly leaked as the street single) and will be the first time Slim Shady will put his signature flow behind a DJ Premier backdrop. ?It?s a song that he actually produced and he wasn?t crazy about the track,? Premier says as he recalls the conversation be... More About: Song
Rick Ross - Trilla Review
2008-03-11 16:53:00 When most artists encounter their second LP, it is usual for most critics and executives to fear the sophomore curse. For the uninitiated, the understanding of the curse is basically that an artist set the bar so high with his or her debut; that he unequivocally fails with the follow up. Rick Ross looked to be a likely candidate, as his first LP, Port Of Miami featured the 2006 summer anthem ?Hustlin'.? The hit spawned remix after remix and even got a then ?retired? Jay-Z on the track. Fast forward to 2008, where the Carol City rep drops Trilla (Def Jam) and you have a sophomore LP that lives up to its name and avoids the dreaded jinx. When listening to this album, it comes off as a finished product that the South Florida movement has been building for the last two years. Every track has a stylized feel with plenty of synthesizer and is as musically bright as South Beach on a summer day. The J.U.S.T.I.C.E League, who when given production duty with their four selections, seem to... More About: Review , Rick Ross
Fat Joe - Elephant In The Room Review
2008-03-11 16:44:00 After 17 years in the game, Fat Joe still feels that he has something to prove. As a member of the legendary D.I.T.C. crew, Joe shot to fame with his 1993 debut album Represent. He is one of the most prominent Latinos in Hip-Hop and the mentor to one of the greatest emcees ever, the late Big Pun, Don Cartagena should be completely proud and satisfied with his resume - which took a huge leap in 2004 with the smash hit, "Lean Back." Recently however, murmurings in the Hip Hop community about his new found love for Southern Hip Hop, along with his never-ending love for using the term nigga, has put his credibility in question. Some have even questioned his status as a true emcee and not just another street credible rapper. All the opposition has put Fat Joe back in the saddle to address everything on his second independent album for Imperial Records titled Elephant In The Room . The album opens up with the bluesy, soul looped banger, "The Fugitive." Produced by Street Runner, this is ... More About: Review
Snoop Dogg- Ego Trippin' Album Review
2008-03-11 16:35:00 Sixteen years into Snoop Dogg 's recording career, his appeal is still based on the way he lives: in slow motion in the fast lane. That's why his stoned persona translates so well to movies and TV, whether he's making porn videos, playing Huggy Bear in Starsky and Hutch, starring in a reality series on E! or hosting the 2007 European VMAs while wearing lederhosen. Snoop has shown a lot more flexibility onscreen than on his records, where he tends to stay in his comfort zone, pledging allegiance to girls, drugs and the gangsta lifestyle. But his languorous rapping has a way of inspiring inventively freaky sounds from producers, whether it's Dr. Dre laying down squealing keyboards on "Nuthin' But a 'G' Thang" or Pharrell Williams exploring mouth-popping for "Drop It Like It's Hot." About half of Ego Trippin ' was produced by "QDT Muzic," a team made up of Snoop, Teddy Riley, who was the Pharrell Williams of the late Eighties and early Nineties, and DJ Quik, who would have bee... HipHopDx Interviews Bun B
2008-03-10 22:20:00 UGK is undeniably one of the most esteemed rap duos in Hip Hop history. Having a large hand in shaping the sound of today?s "trap music," UGK had finally begun to garner the well-deserved [and well-overdue] mainstream love with their Grammy-nominated self-titled album the same year that would see Pimp C pass away. Pimp?s untimely death left his millions of fans in shock, and his long-time collaborator and friend, Bun B, devastated. But not to be mistaken, Bun B is a Hip Hop mainstay on his own as well, proven by the time he spent making hits with the likes of T.I., Jay-Z, Scarface, and Young Jeezy while Pimp C completed a prison stint a few years ago. Now with Pimp gone but hardly forgotten, Bun B continues the legacy of UGK, the unofficial ambassadors to Port Arthur, Texas, their life-long stomping grounds. He sat down with HipHopDX this week to talk about his solo project II Trill [click here to preview], and preserving the memory of Pimp C. As Bun B continues his candid intervie...
