Scuba Wet Suits
2007-08-30 23:36:00 A Look at Scuba Wet Suits Scuba wet suits were not taken seriously until World War II and the advent of Navy Frogmen (SEALs) who became one of America’s most effective weapons of the war. On any kind of measurable basis, costs of operations versus costs of effectiveness, man-to-man, or overall kill ratios, the SEALs exceeded expectations on any level. Once recognized, the military put a much time

BLANCHE
2006-12-06 22:14:01 Introducing the fine Americana of Blanche, a country/rock/Americana band that has just released an EP entitled, ?What This Town Needs.? It?s too damn bad it arrived so late in the year, ?cause it?s too late to make my ?06 best-of lists, but it?s damn damn good. It kind of sounds like a David Lynch movie. Creepy honkytonk. DANGERMOUSE-THE FIRST MIXTAPE
2006-12-06 10:13:01 Quite a treat in store today. Most of you know Danger mouse as half of Gnarls Barkley, or maybe from his collaboration last year with MF Doom. Before that, of course, he was the DJ genius who produced the Gray Album mash up that got him the kind of fame that can only bring lawyers and lawsuits. But even before that, DM was a well-known DJ, with uncommon skill and versatility. This mixtape, his first (allegedly), reveals all the ingredients of his later work: A taste for pop music (Edie Brickell, the classic Lynyrd Skynrd riff from Sweet Home Alabama); a predeliction for conscious, witty rappers like Common but also a taste for the grimy and the gritty (Mobb Deep, Big L); and, above all, a joy in genre jumping and throwing around the most unexpected of beats. Tracks include remixes of NaS? It Ain?t Hard to Tell; ODB and Masta Killa?s, Drunken Master; Phil Collins? In the Air Tonite melded with Pharcyde's Ya Mama; and stuff by Black Eyed Peas, Loot Pack, Mos Def, Slick Rick, and ... More About: Anger , First , Mouse , Mixtape

I?m digging it. It?s nothing like Elton John, and it?s not twee, both of which I expected. It?s high-drama arena indie. Kinda makes me think of 70s big rock without the high-pitched singer. PRETENDERS II
2006-12-02 16:06:01 I read a review, I think it was in Blender, of the reissues of Pretenders I & II that gave a 5-star rating to I but a lesser one to II, saying that the second album was kind of a lesser version of the first. I have to disagree, violently. And now you all can check my work on these two fantastic reissues.?Pretenders? (the first album) is a classic, to be sure. I?m not debating that. It?s got Brass In Pocket, for one thing, and Kid, for another. But II, the last album with the original lineup, shows a band that has less to prove, having just smash-hitted?I know that?s not a word?with one of the greatest rock albums ever. Consequently, they respond with some less obvious numbers, like "The Adultress" and "Message Of Love," and include more (and better) slower numbers, like "Talk Of The Town" and "I Go To Sleep". Definitely less raw and punky, I find their second release also more grounded?the band is comfortable with success, and promises to go on togreat things. Which, we ... NO DOUBT!
2006-12-02 16:06:01 In honor of Gwen Stefani's new album coming out soon, here's a post on some rare No Doubt tunes. Did you like Gwen's first solo effort? I definitely thought it was better than Fergie. I mean, I actually bought Gwen's album. But it didn't hold up for me on repeated listens. I did love all the mash-ups that came later--that shit was bananas.Anyway, if you like these cuts, go to the parent directory. Lots more. These cunning, uncommon instrumentalists have returned with beautiful musical pieces and ugly names. Hope y?all like. Well, read for yourself:A proper mastering of all our ready to fly tuneless drownings is to be undertaken very shortly in that there London & a full length long player will be readily available sometime Jan/Feb 2000&7.As we have spent no time whatsolikely on pursuing label interest (for there be none, we are proud to say; mainly as we have not sought), this initial initiation into the Drunk Country will be self-spat & shamelessly hawked by our own pureed hands. ... PABLO
2006-12-02 16:06:01 Pablo has a big fucking acoustic guitar. Well, I?ve never seen it, but it sounds huge. It?s not the size, it?s how they use it. Or I should say, how ?he? uses it, even though ?he? is not Pablo. Paul Schalda (sometimes accompanied by a band inclding his brother), makes well-crafted classic-rock style songs. And when he strums the acoustic guitar, he manages to pull a tremendous sound out of it. On a few of the great songs off his newest album, Half the Time, I found my ears straining to hear if he was boosting the sound with some kind of doubling effect, but I don?t think he is. He simply makes powerful and dramatic music that sounds big. There?s a few deathly slow numbers (like Wall St., which he offers below) that aren?t my cup of tea, but I think they?ll appeal to others. And the sheer magnificence of songs like Get Around, also offered below, and his midtempo piano heavy numbers like the title track, provide the perfect counterweight. Plus, homeboy?s from Bucktown and doe... More About: Pablo
JOE STRUMMER 1999
2006-12-02 16:06:01 Before the post . . .Both contests are still up?Head Set and Courtney Love ? and will be up through the holiday. Make sure to enter. The Head Set CD is fantastic. I can?t get enough of it. JOE STRUMMER LIVE AND ACOUSTICAs far as I?m concerned, The Clash were one of the best?if not the absolute best?rock groups ever. They had the right attitude, didn?t let drugs destroy them, and had the perfect mix of politics, nihilism, love songs, and balls out barnstormers. And most people are either of the Mick or Joe camp. While I love B.A.D., I gotta fall harder with Joe.This is an acoustic show from 1999. This is all I have of the show, so don?t ask for more. Rest in peace, Joe. JEREMY ENIGK
2006-12-02 16:06:01 Okay, so I get this CD in the mail with a website link to ?Jewish Hollow? recordings, and I?m thinking, what the hell is this? Who the f?k is Jeremy Enigk? I?m ready to toss it, but I have this policy of listening to everything I get?I gotta at least give it a chance, to be fair. But my expectations are low.The opening cut, an under-two-minute rumbly quiet instrumental is boring and self-important lead-in. I say, ?Get to it!? and I hit skip the last few seconds. Then Been Here Before creeps in, and I hear Perry Farrell without the screaming and spit. I hear contemplative, soft music that is both subtle and complicated at the same time. Nuanced. And again I ask, ?Who the f-k is this guy??Turns out, he?s the former lead singer of indie faves Sunny Day Real Estate, which explains a lot. That?s a band I?ve admired, but only from a distance. They just never really moved me. And it?s been like over a decade, hasn?t it? So I don?t feel too bad being ignorant about this guy. I?m ... JIHAE AND ABERDEEN CITY
2006-12-02 16:06:01 Blog note: I'm thinking of quitting. I know I've said that before, but with the changes to e-z archive, the sudden proliferation of crappy blogs that drive search engine traffic, and recent increased scrutiny from record labels, I'm really getting tired of all this. If I don't quit, I'm definitely downsizing, as some of you can tell. I can't post 23 mp3s a day anymore. The hosts I use now just can't handle it. So I'll be utilizing rapidshare more often, and I'll be focussing more on writing and live tunes. If you all intend to stop reading, please tell me now and I'll kick off before the year-end list season, which takes a lot of work. SMASHING PUMPKINS-LIVE AND ACOUSTIC!
2006-12-02 16:06:01 The Smashing Pumpkin s were the greatest 90s alternative rock band ever. They were better than Jane?s Addiction because they lasted longer and had more versatility. I (HEART) THE HEAD SET (A giveaway!)
2006-12-02 16:06:01 I (heart) the Head Set. A while back, I glowed about their EP, Ask Her Twice, produced by Nic Hard (The Bravery, Aberdeen City). They?re a hook-heavy New York-based indie pop band that sounds like what would have happened if the 1980s had occurred in a British garage. Ever since the first time I heard the song, 1982 (it?s still stuck in my head, bouncing around and putting pep in my step), I hunted down and got a hold of everything I could find from them. Hot, powerful, punchy, and absolutely infectious, I totally these guys. And it turns out, the feeling is mutual. The band has contacted me and offered three copies of it?s first full length album, free to you all. If you want one, drop me a comment with your address. And if you don?t want one, you?re insane. From the sledgehammer strumming and Cult-esque vocals of ?Enemies? to the crashing climax of ?Never Make it Home,? Way Past Used never disappoints. If I?m still bloggin? in January, this album *will* make my best of the ... More About: Hear , I heart , Heart , Give

Both are smooth and loungy, which is not my typical choice for music, but for some reason these two albums hit me in the right place. Especially Eliane Elias (pictured). EELS LIVE
2006-12-02 16:06:01 I?m sure you all know who eels are. ?They? are basically Mark Everett, formerly known as A Man Called E, currently one of the best singer/songwriters in the business. In the tradition of Tom Waits and Bob Dylan, eels makes music that is sometimes beautiful, sometimes funny, often disturbing, and consistently well-written. This is a June 30, 2006, show he did in Switzerland. There are several versions of it circulating, and this one is good quality but it is not complete. Sorry, completists.
