Ed Lincoln - Seu Piano e Seu Orgao Espetacular (1961)
2009-04-15 06:14:00
This disc is here for a quite a long time, but never had my attention. I thought it was already available here, or perhaps it was only a reissue among the many released throughout Ed Lincoln 's discography. Now I'm happy to be wrong, wrong twice. This album is the first issue of the second album released by Ed Lincoln (although Musidisc's ST XPL-12 serial number is big and visible at the front cover) and is also an album never released before at Loronix. There are also other relevant things to say about this one. Let's see. This is Ed Lincoln - Seu Piano e Seu Orgao Espetacular (1961), for Musidisc, featuring Pedrinho Rodrigues voice for the first time on recordings. The back cover says Ed Lincoln had the accompaniment of the same that recorded his first album for Helium Label, Ed Lincoln =Ao Seu Ouvido, but all my searches failed, although I'm really convinced I saw this personnel listing available somewhere, not a long time ago. Tracks include:Track List01 - Nunca Mais (Ed Linc...
Catulo de Paula - Catulo Canta no Michel (1959)
2009-04-14 05:54:00
Hello, good evening! This is the third album I'm making available from this obscure record company with the name and logo based on an animal that does not exists in Brazil, the legendary Tiger. Little I know about this label except these albums, the excellent Moacyr Marques e Seu Conjunto - Jazz & Bossa Nova (1959), a contribution of my Mentor Caetano Rodrigues and this early Hermeto Pascoal recording with Pernambuco do Pandeiro e Seu Regional - Batucando no Morro (1958), both really worth checking out. Catulo de Paula is an artist requested by many friends, many and important friends, such like Frank-Oliver Hellman, which I want to say thanks for recommending Catulo de Paula a long time ago. Let's see. This is Catulo de Paula - Catulo Canta no Michel (1959), for Tiger. Catulo de Paula delivers a repertoire based on his performances at Michel Bar, a nightclub I never heard about. According with Guio de Moraes liner notes, Catulo de Paula performed on Michel Bar for more than a ...
Moacyr Silva e Seu Conjunto - Sax Sensacional Nr. 3 (1962)
2009-04-10 06:17:00
Hello, good evening! The availability of new albums over time at Loronix is a recurrent and very frequent question. It is natural to think in some point there will be no new albums available. I never had such fear, especially today, which is the day another Moacyr Silva LP never published at Loronix is been released. This is the eighteenth album with Moacyr Silva participation at Loronix. And this is not a fraction of his entire discography. If you are new to Loronix or new to Moacyr Silva, check the related albums option below and be amazed by his music. Let's see. This is Moacyr Silva e Seu Conjunto - Sax Sensacional Nr. 3 (1962), for Copacabana, featuring Moacyr Silva tenor sax in front of two bands, a quintet (performing Samba tunes) and a quartet (performing the remaining songs, identified as "Foxes"). Personnel listing features a constellation of Brazilian musicians, including Chaim Lewak (besides Moacyr Silva, the only that performs on both bands), Waltel Branco, Tiao Marinho,...
Nelson Ferraz - Lamento Negro (1956) Featuring Radames Gnattali
2009-04-08 08:51:00
Hello, good evening! I've been a frequent parrot at Rio de Janeiro downtown area in the last two weeks or so. The place has several small used book shops that really worth checking. Today I decided to try a store, just because I was 5 minutes early to a meeting in the building next door. I had five minutes and no guarantees, I did not know if the store was working with LPs, for instance. Sometimes I'm lucky, the owner was starting the LP selling business, without the require knowledge for make correct prices. I could make two wonderful bids in 5 minutes, each one for only 2 reais. This is the first, and I'm pleased to make it here, this is a rather curious disc. Let's see. This is Nelson Ferraz - Lamento Negro (1956), for Continental, featuring arrangements by Maestro Radames Gnattali. If you are in the mood of a very inquisitive album with a very different music, this is probably the album you were waiting for. Little I know about Nelson Ferraz, which is probably a classical sin...

Francisco Petronio e Dilermando Reis - Uma Voz e Um Violao em Serenata Vol.
2009-04-06 07:57:00
Hello, good evening! If our mission is to tell the story of Brazilian popular music, it would fail if we skip this duo formed by a singer and an instrumentalist. The singer is Francisco Petronio, being introduced for the first time at Loronix, and by the way, an important singer. Francisco Petronio recorded over 50 LPs in a career that started late and lasted no more than two decades. Dilermando Reis does not requires an introduction, his violao is the only instrument heard at this album and this is the first time we have an album by Dilermando Reis accompanying a singer. They recorded together 7 LPs in this series of seresta performance, a genre we are getting along for the first time at Loronix. Let's see. This is Francisco Petronio e Dilermando Reis - Uma Voz, e Um Violao em Serenata Vol. 2 (1963), for Continental, the second out of seven seresta albums release by the duo. Although the cover in the spirit of a serenata, I think a brief explanation is needed. Seresta or Serenata i...
Nilo Sergio, Sua Orquestra e Vozes - Isto e Romance (1962)
2009-04-04 06:32:00
Hello, good evening! This is considered by many the best album released by Nilo Sérgio, an important figure in Brazilian popular music. Singer and composer, Nilo Sergio made history as the creator of an independent record label that was always ahead of its time, the legendary Musidisc. This really nice record company released important artists; Trio Surdina is a perfect example. Musidisc was also the record label that started and frequently used artists from other labels hidden by fake names and even artists under contract with Musidisc using English names as a marketing strategy, such like Bob Fleming, the fake name used by Moacyr Silva and Zito Righi to release several blockbusters at Musidisc. Let's see. This is Nilo Sergio, Sua Orquestra e Vozes - Isto e Romance (1962), for Musidisc, featuring the not credited participation of Ed Lincoln as an organist and probably a maestro in charge of instrumental and voice arrangements. I had a nice week and I hope we will have together a s...
Lyrio Panicali - Lyrio Panicali faz Samba em 2 Tempos (1967)
2009-04-01 06:24:00
Hello, good evening! I'm really glad to present another Lyrio Panicali career LP never made available before at Loronix. By the way, the last album with Lyrio Panicali as main performer was released in the remote November 2007, exactly 16 months ago. I made a quick examination at Lyrio Panicali discography and I'm happy to know that we still have several albums never released in CD to show. Some of these albums I never had the chance to see how the cover looks like. Anyway, Maestro Lyrio Panicali is a really special artist and I urge Loronix community to pay attention to this release. I will tell you. Let's see. This is Lyrio Panicali - Lyrio Panicali faz Samba em 2 Tempos (1967), for Codil Ritmos, featuring Orquestra de Sopros da Radio Ministerio da Educacao e Cultura. This album can easily cheat you at a first sight, but as soon as you spin the first track you understand that you are in front of something very similar to Panicali's Nova Dimensao, an acclaimed album by Samba Jaz...
Milton Banana - O Ritmo e o Som da Bossa Nova (1963)
2009-03-29 07:14:00
Hello, good evening! I had a day with some surprises, good and bad surprises. Evaluating these ups and downs, I think the balance was not very good, and the best thing to do on these days is to sleep early and wake up on a better shape. However, I'm very happy with the sequel of albums made available at Loronix. Take a look at the last five or eight posts and you should agree with me. We had excellent albums and most of them never had a chance of being reissued on CD.I believe I made the right choice postponing my sleep time for a few hours. I'm feeling much better right now, especially remembering this album, which is one of the first made available at Loronix and a very important Brazilian instrumental music album featuring Milton Banana , the creator of Bossa Nova drumming style, backed by another legend of the movement, Oscar Castro Neves and Conjunto. This is a required update that you cannot miss. Let's see. This is Milton Banana e Conjunto de Oscar Castro Neves - O Ritmo e O...
Nelly Martins & Tito Madi - Encontro no Sabado (1959)
2009-03-27 05:34:00
Hello, good evening! I'm confident that many friends will be surprised with this album, such like us. I'm saying us because my transfers are now different from the way it was. Now I have an audience, a small, but very influent audience. They try to influence my choices and also make recommendations for future releases by digging my collection. This album provoked a very interest reaction on my small board of advisors, as soon as the transfer ended, they requested another spin, which was an appropriate request, this record is really amazing, Tito Madi and the surprising Nelly Martins worked as a team delivering a beauty of an album that you cannot miss. Let's see. This is Nelly Martins & Tito Madi - Encontro no Sabado (1959), for Continental. The information available about Nelly Martins was very limited on my computer and something very strange happened when I started searching Google. The website which provided better details on Nelly Martins was Loronix, really. Nelly Martin...
Radames Gnattali - Joias Musicais Brasileiras (1954)
2009-03-24 07:02:00
Hello, good evening! My Internet access stills very limited with extremely slow upload rates. I did not want to keep Loronix with no updates today and my solution was gathering a 10-inch album, which is not an issue since we have truly amazing albums to explore in the format. This one is a perfect example, this is the second LP released by Maestro Radames Gnattali at Continental. For reasons that I cannot understand Radames Gnattali name is not available at the front cover, just like the first one. It is necessary to read the back cover for this information. I would like to remember that covers and individual tracks are always available at the end my writings as individual downloads; the covers are available as direct download links with no Rapidshare. Let's see. This is Radames Gnattali - Joias Musicais do Brasil (1954), for Continental, featuring Radames Gnattali selections. arrangements and piano. A small and not credited band makes the accompaniement. All my searches on this alb...
Sylvio Mazzucca e Sua Orquestra - Baile de Aniversario (1958)
2009-03-23 05:10:00
Hello, good evening! Today was one of those days that we don't forget. I was the first out of bed, starting as planned walking outside and purchasing bread and butter for a breakfast that only exists in Brazil. Then, my 12-years old nephew taught me many interesting tricks in Photoshop, some of them of immediate application at Loronix. Later on, we decided to open and play with the inside parts of an old notebook that had his last moments of life with zeca, which destroyed everything with refinement of cruelty. We had lunch together, followed by some guitar playing. That was special for me; I could realize that even with the left hand without touching I could make it for a couple of hours. We had also a birthday cake celebrating my brother anniversary. An incredible day and a perfect closing with an album requested by many loronixers. Let's see. This is Sylvio Mazzucca e Sua Orquestra - Baile de Aniversario (1958), for Columbia, featuring renowned Brazilian musicians, some very har...
Tempo Trio - Tempo Trio (1965)
2009-03-21 06:03:00
Hello, good evening! I had an intense and very busy day this Friday. I got rid of a lot of paper without any remorse. I could also setup my new working environment and made the fist transfer at my new place. As nothing is perfect, this new disc cannot be shown today. Blame it on my Internet connection, limited to a maximum of 30Kbps upload speed.Meanwhile, I found an album requested by many Loronix friends featuring an instrumental combo from Minas Gerais state. I'm keeping my original text written in August 2006. Let's see. This is Tempo Trio - Tempo Trio (1965), for London, highly recommended by a very good friend of mine. Tracks include:PersonnelHelvius Vilela(piano)Paulo Horta(bass)Paschoal Meirelles(drums)Track List01 - Tudo de Você (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)02 - Menino das Laranjas (Theo de Barros)03 - ''Tema de Morro'' Enquanto a Tristeza Não Vem (Sergio Ricardo) Feio Não É Bonito (Carlos Lyra / Gianfrancesco Guarnieri) O Morro Nçao Tem Vez (Tom Jobim / Vin...
Gao - The Melodic Sound of Gao's Piano and The Ipanema Strings (1966)
2009-03-20 02:10:00
Hello, good evening! It is wonderful to be back to Loronix. Thank you for keeping the community and the website alive during my absence. I hope you had quality time here at Loronix and also with your families and friends. My move is finished and I have much to say about it. Despite almost 10 days since the beginning of the process, writing these lines today is a miracle. I'm enjoying my new place, important for me to be immediately assisted in episodes of hypoglycemia and other boring stuff. My family was just myself and zecalouro and now we are a true family of 3 adults (my brother and wife) and his two sons, my nephews. Exciting things happened. As soon as he heard about my arrival, my nephew decided to take guitar classes and now plays very well with a few lessons. The adaptation of zecalouro, a major concern in our new home was instantaneous. He now has the company of other 7 birds and 5 dogs. I cannot remember zeca facing a dog before, and now his favorite sport is riding around ...

Dolores Duran - Dolores Duran Viaja (1955)
2009-03-09 21:36:00
Hello, good afternoon! I will try to make two updates today, but if I fail, this album starts an interval of some days with no updates. I will be taking care of my move, finally scheduled for tomorrow at 10:30 in the morning. The change will be made by a specialized company that charges the total hours spent to accomplish the change. For this monitoring, I developed an application that sends from my mobile phone to Loronix dedicated server the GPS coordinates of where I am in intervals of 5 minutes. These coordinates are stored on a mysql database and using Google Maps API, these coordinates are plot in a map, making it possible to watch the move in real time, including the route made to the future place.Tomorrow, the whole community can monitor my steps with the chance in real time via this link The Move!. So far, you will only see my zig-zag around Leme. I think this is the final proof that I'm really a nerd. :-)Anyway, I would like to send a big THANK YOU to Mr. E. for his unders...

Varios Artistas - Vitrine Odeon (no date)
2009-03-07 06:12:00
I received an email from the owner of one of the coolest blogs I know, Toque Musical, which is now up and running on a new website, very similar to the previous one, but I recommend that you follow this link to make sure you will reach the right website, here: http://toque-musicall.blogspot.com. If you like Brazilian music and LPs, Toque Musical is mandatory.TM (is that your name?) also said he made a long time ago Vitrine Odeon, and kindly sent to Loronix the scan of the original cover. Thanks TM for your great sharing spirit.Good, the pieces are getting together, and now we need only Clovis Pereira - Ritmos Aluciantes and Elizeth Cardoso - Cancao de Amor audios. I want to thank TM for this update and also remind you again to reach his website at http://toque-musicall.blogspot.com.Hello, good evening! Everything went wrong today and this is the reason why three covers are available. Perhaps it is the anticipated effect of the move, scheduled for Tuesday, next week, or perhaps just ...
Fafa Lemos - Para Ouvir Dancando (1957)
2009-03-04 06:57:00
Hello, good evening! It was difficult to decide for an album to be at the first page of Loronix today. All options were very good, solid, but this choice -- and perhaps the next ones -- is very important. I'm moving from my place to another. I'm leaving this apartment, the place I love and the place I'm living since the beginning of Loronix. The date of my move is still uncertain and can happen at any time. Thus, from now on, all albums at the first page should be very meaningful because Loronix will enter on a hiatus of five or more days until I get set on my new place and ready to continue. So, friends, if Loronix is not updated in the forthcoming days, this is the reason, I will be unplugged and in the middle of a very worrying process for anyone who collect LPs. Let's see. This is Fafa Lemos - Para Ouvir Dancando (1957), for RCA Victor, featuring Fafa Lemos, a legendary Brazilian musician, member of the anthological Trio Surdina with Anibal Augusto Sardinha - Garoto - and Chi...
Chico Buarque de Hollanda - Volume 3 (1968)
2009-03-03 05:23:00
Hello, good evening! A friend of mine, very connected to Brazilian music scene, with access to virtually all artists, said the only artist that left nervous and anxious when contacting was Chico Buarque. He said this thing a couple of years ago and I did not understand why by that time. Today, with Loronix, this statement came to my mind and his anguish is now clear. Chico Buarque is one of the greatest Brazilian artists in activity, able to move successfully between different artistic manifestations, including the challenging terrain of literature. Above all, Chico Buarque is an artist with respect to his own beliefs, a very intelligent man. His work was long available commercially through the release of all his discography in a box set. This is the reason his music is not represented here like other artists. I am very happy to make this album, the third out three Chico Buarque initial releases for RGE, considered by many his best releases. Let's see. This is Chico Buarque de Holla...

Antonio Carlos Jobim - Nova Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira (1977)
2009-02-28 06:55:00
Hello! This is another surprising chapter of Historia da MPB collection by Abril Cultural. Actually, this is from 1977 Nova Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira, a second and revised edition of the original and first issued in the very beginning of the 1970's. I always thought how would be the chapter dedicated to Antonio Carlos Jobim and it is better than my expectations. This cover, with a very unusual picture of Jobim and the back cover with the Maestro playing flute lying on the roof with the city around justified the wait. I always heard all issues from this collection were easy to find, but I think this is an exception. Let's see. This is Antonio Carlos Jobim - Nova Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira (1977), for Abril Cultural, featuring highlights of Jobim repertoire performed by Antonio Carlos Jobim and others, such like Joao Gilberto, Astrud Gilberto, Stan Getz, Agostinho dos Santos, Dick Farney, Lucio Alves, Sylvia Telles and Elis Regina. This is a great album for th...

Once again we have four fellows to be identified; three are from a trio (featured on several challenges in the past) and the remaining fellow.... 2009-02-27 07:03:00
Hello! Yesterday, more like a kind of therapy than anything else in this crazy 2009, I made a script that addresses a very old request of Loronix community. It is already available and you probably have seen it. Now we have an option to download individual tracks from a disc, instead of the whole album on a huge zip ball. It is always available as "Individual Tracks" on post closing information (if the size is set to 0,00Mb, don't worry, the robot will fix it). It is an amazing feature, which is gradually being materialized by a robot that works 24hours a day with no complaints. It is beautiful; he is taking files from Rapidshare, opening on our dedicated server, reading its contents, recording all the information on a database and sending everything back to Rapidshare as single tracks. Some very interesting numbers were collected so far. From a total of 1894 albums available, the robot has finished with 599, making available 5836 tracks for individual hearing. I believe that in the...

Luiz Carlos Vinhas & Emilio Santiago - Ao Vivo (1974)
2009-02-25 06:52:00
Hello, good evening! Yesterday, we had Sabadabada.com tribute and today this amazing contribution by JIN, Jose Ignacio Neto, which is another Brazilian music hero in cyberspace. In case you don't know who, JIN belongs to the third generation of the Ignacio's family, a family devoted to Brazilian music. His grandfather, the legendary Jose Ignacio, was the man behind the anthological "A Volta" podcast. JIN delivers a contribution that I'm sure you never had the chance to hear before, an unissued session featuring Luiz Carlos Vinhas and Emilio Santiago , recorded live in 1974 by Bill Horn. I will leave now as the show will be hosted by JIN from now one with his own knowledgeable words. JIN, my apologies for taking a long time to make this one. Let's see.Jose Ignacio Neto says: "One of the key figures amongst global collectors of funky Brazilian bossa over the last 20 years was undoubtedly the leader and pianist Luiz Carlos Vinhas.A charismatic figure and stalwart of the Rio nightclu...

Sarah Vaughan - Exclusivamente Brasil (1980)
2009-02-23 07:58:00
Hello, good evening! This is an unscheduled post. Sarah Vaughan was recently released a couple of days ago and I was waiting for a few weeks before taking this one in consideration. However, every road leads to Sarah Vaughan today. My mother came here today and showed great curiosity to hear the last, O Som Brasil eiro de Sarah Vaughan. Everybody knows my mother is a great fan of Brazilian divas of the last century, but such like me; she has a very limited knowledge of international singers. I decided to take O Som de Sarah Vaughan for a spin and she got really amazed, deciding to stay additional hours until this one gets finished. It was one of those perfect days. My mother took her way home hearing this album, naturally, my best choice for tonight. Let's see. This is Sarah Vaughan - Exclusivamente Brasil (1980), for Philips, featuring the guitar of Helio Delmiro, a gifted musician that I never had the chance to make before at Loronix. Helio Delmiro has a really special participation...
Donga - A Musica de Donga (1974)
2009-02-21 07:21:00
Hello, good evening! Carnaval has just started in Brazil. We have a big weekend ahead, a 5-day long holiday. Everyone that has the opportunity to travel, do so, leaving their homes today and returning only on the night of Wednesday. I'll be in Rio de Janeiro, as I use to do. Carnival makes Rio a quiet and empty city, believe it or not. I will follow the example of most music blogs friends of Loronix, showing something with Carnaval flavor. Let's see. This is Donga - A Musica de Donga (1974), for the legendary label Marcus Pereira. By definition, this is not a Carnaval album, but a very important document featuring Donga, a musician who is part of Brazilian popular music history. Donga is credited to be the first to record a Samba tune in the year of 1916, a very important song that we know in Brazil by heart, Pelo Telefone, which is the track 10 of this album. Anyway, the whole album is delicious to hear with renowned musicians performing Donga compositions, including Elizeth Cardo...
Lucio Alves - Balancamba (1963)
2009-02-18 05:41:00
Hello, good evening! I was looking for something at Amazon.com this weekend when by coincidence, I found this album labeled "This item has been discontinued by the manufacturer." I believe that Balancamba was the last Lucio Alves album commercially available. This is sad. We know these reissues are forged by the hard work of people who Love Brazilian music as we do. I'm speaking specifically about Caetano Rodrigues and Charles Gavin, two great friends of our community, to whom I dedicate this record, which will continue his public career -- on very modest basis by the way -- here at Loronix. Let's see. This is Lucio Alves - Balancamba (1963) for Elenco as ME-2, the second album released by the anthological and very important Brazilian label. Balancamba blends the words "balanco" and "samba" and makes justice to this title. Lucio Alves's unique voice and sophisticated timing delivers a repertoire with compositions by Ronaldo Boscoli and Roberto Menescal, which is also here (probabl...
Paulinho Nogueira - Sambas e Marchas da Nova Geracao (1967)
2009-02-15 05:32:00
Hello, good evening! I am very proud to be in charge of the technology side of Musicos do Brasil: Uma Enciclopedia Instrumental, the first Brazilian music Encyclopedia devoted to instrumental music. The website was recently updated with new features and left the Beta stage. When I have an album to share with the community, the Encyclopedia is very useful, being a solid reference source. Follow this link to reach Paulinho Nogueira 's entry and read about this great master of Brazilian guitar. The Encyclopedia says that Paulinho Nogueira was more active as a teacher than as a studio musician. I also learned that Paulinho Nogueira was a designer, an essential skill to forge his invention, the craviola, an instrument that was adopted by Luiz Bonfa on his anthological Jacaranda album. Anyway, it is better leave the discovery pleasure for you; in the meantime, Loronix delivers another great Paulinho Nogueira record never released in CD. Johnny Alf - Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira 43 (1972)
2009-02-14 05:03:00
Hello, good evening! Yet another tiny record from Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira collection made available at Loronix, once again, another really worth checking release. For those who do not know this collection, Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira was published in 48 issues by Editora Abril Cultural between the years 1970 and 1972. Each issue includes a magazine with the size of a 10" record and a 10" record with a summary of the featured artist. It is perfect if you want get along with an artist on a single hearing. Let's see. This is Johnny Alf - Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira - 43 (1972), for Abril Cultural, featuring the Bossa Nova giant Johnny Alf performing his compositions and other artists performing Johnny Alf music. I said the collection is great, but the thing I like most is the magazine featuring pictures that are not easy to find, such as the one I'm making available below. I don't have muscles to transfer the magazine to digital format. My apologies....
Tamba Trio - Tamba Trio (1966)
2009-02-12 06:04:00
Hello, good evening! Here we have an album that does not need to be explained in details. Tamba Trio was one of the nicest vocal / instrumental Bossa Nova combos from the 1960's and it is very hard to find someone that doesn't have good feelings about these guys. This album was released in the middle of two classic and well-known Tamba Trio records, which is Tamba Trio - Tempo (1964) and Tamba 4 - We and the Sea (1967), for A&M records in the US. Thanks Jorge Mello for another nice contribution. Let's see. This is Tamba Trio - Tamba Trio (1966 ), for Philips, featuring Luiz Eca, Bebeto, Ohana and the participation of Orquestra Sinfonica do Teatro Municipal. I have been digging Google's results for additional information about this album, but my searches were unsuccessful. I cannot explain why this album is a missing piece even in some important discographies. Anyway, there is a bad thing about this post. I forgot to transfer and include the back cover at the zl ball, which is ...
Doces Barbaros - Doces Barbaros (1976)
2009-02-10 07:29:00
I have a nice connection with this album and I'm glad it is back to Loronix again. The first time it was made available, it lasts less than 24 hours. I made it by mistake, a few copies were already being sold by an on-line store and now it has gone definitively out of print, which is a shame, this is a classic. As I said, this album was important for my background as an amateur musician and also to drag my attention to Brazilian music and the four giants that share the role of main performer, the tropicalia legends Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and Gal Costa and Caetano's sister Maria Bethania.
