Carmen Miranda | 100 Anos
2009-02-10 04:33:00
Hello, good evening! Brazil celebrates Carmen Miranda 100th Centennial today. She was born in 9 February 1909. I'm disappointed for not having any album with her unique music to make a tribute. However, it is essential that Loronix makes this tribute.I like this picture with Carmen Miranda without all that tropical clothes and I hope you also like it. In addition, I'm making available two videos that are really worth checking out. The first video features Carmen Miranda hosted by Ed Wynn in 1949, United States. She has the accompaniment of the legendary O Bando da Lua, and you can notice the presence of Aloysio de Oliveira among O Bando da Lua members. Thanks to Doni Sacramento for this important document. The second features the last known Carmen Miranda images and impressive scenes of her funeral in Rio de Janeiro, 1955. Thanks to In Memorian website for sharing this film.I hope our tribute to Carmen Miranda is respectful and appropriate to the importance of this great artist.Ho...
Dilermando Reis - Gotas de Lagrimas (1963)
2009-02-08 06:41:00
Hello, good evening! When I started this transfer tonight, I realized that I could not get away from the turntable hearing the opening track 01 - Gotas de Lagrimas, which is also the title track, a beautiful waltz, and perhaps a complex and challenging piece to any guitar player, absolutely unknown to me. Later, a few Google searches were enough to understand that Mozart Bicalho (Gotas de Lagrimas composer) is another Brazilian guitar master, compared to big names such like Joao Pernambuco and Canhoto. I will tell you a little bit more about this piece. Let's see. This is Dilermando Reis - Gotas de Lagrimas (1963), for Continental, another worth checking Dilermando Reis LP, featuring his own compositions and renditions of well-known instrumental tunes. Gotas de Lagrimas was recorded for the first time by Mozart Bicalho in 1930, having its first transcription in the early 1960's by Dilermando Reis, who made a very important work of publishing in written music many tunes that are con...
Guilherme Vergueiro - Guilherme Vergueiro Ao Vivo (1982)
2009-02-07 05:29:00
Hello, good evening! I was dedicated on this writing during the last 3 hours. I made different versions using some ideas and approaches and I could not reach the results I was looking for. Now my eyes hurt, and if you have diabetes, you cannot play with your eyes. However, I cannot wait another 24 hours. I decided to write it from scratch, it is a very important post. This fantastic musician is being introduced to Loronix's community for the first time tonight. And he is also, how can I say... a "true" Loronixer, a challenge winner that you already known using the gorgeous nickname of Pianista Sambista. Guilherme Vergueiro. Let's see. This is Guilherme Vergueiro - Guilherme Vergueiro Ao Vivo (1982), for Estudio Eldorado, recorded live at "International Jazz Montmartre", Copenhagen, Denmark. It is hard to believe that I had the chance to hear this album for the first time only this week. This is really fantastic music played with passion by this quartet. I urge Loronix's community ...

Juca Mestre and His Brasileiros - Panorama Musical do Brasil (1962)
2009-02-04 03:52:00
This is Juca Mestre and His Brasil eiros - Panorama Musical do Brasil (1962), for Audio Fidelity (USA), yet another album recorded in Brazil, featuring Brazilian musicians and produced for the US audience. This cover is so great that alone makes this album an essential to Loronix collection, regardless the music inside, which is not the case. Panorama Musical do Brasil is above the average and features a sort of "big band" playing hits of the time with very nice arrangements by Maestro Juca Mestre.I'm also making available an equivalent picture of Enseada de Botafogo taken last year. It is nice to see how Rio de Janeiro has changed across four decades. I was not born in 1962, but I really miss this time. And since everybody is now hearing Joao Gilberto or visiting Toque Musical, I would like to make a challenge. The first comment sent with the identification of Juca Mestre wins a Rapidshare one-month Premium Account. Tracks include:01 - O Apito no Samba (Luis Bandeira / Luis Antôni...
Roberto Ribeiro - Arrasta Povo (1976)
2009-02-02 05:33:00
Hello, good evening! It is nice to introduce a new artist to Loronix community, and it is also nice to make a Samba album again. Needless to say again that I am not the right person to review a Samba LP, but I believe we are in front of one of those classic albums in the style. Roberto Ribeiro has a great voice and it is a really good Samba interpreter. He delivers that kind of melodic Samba in minor key and this album features some of his well known tunes released in the 1970's. Let's see. This is Roberto Ribeiro - Arrasta Povo (1976), for Odeon. Now I remember that Loronix has already an album recorded by Roberto Ribeiro, which is his first LP, the impossible to find Sangue, Suor e Raca (1972) with Elza Soares, highly recommended -- just click at the album cover in your left -- and featuring arrangements by Maestro Dom Salvador. By the way, Elza Soares "revealed" Roberto Ribeiro with this album and some singles released with him in the period. I think you will have a very solid l...
Canhoto da Paraiba - Um Violao Direito nas Maos do Canhoto (1974)
2009-01-31 05:56:00
Hello, good evening! Before talking about this fantastic contribution sponsored by Jorge Mello, I would like to show an important upgrade made on Loronix Preview Center, available since yesterday night. Before this upgrade, I have to admit that our "radio" was really boring, static, with the same set of songs every day.Things are really different now. The playlist, which is the list of songs available, is now sitting in a database, running in our dedicated server. Instead of a limited and static list, Loronix Preview Center is now recovering 35 songs, drawn randomly from a total of 353 available. The list of songs you have right now is different from mine and also different from other friends. Really great, but just a detail.Take a look at the bottom part of the player. We have a search feature available and this is the great thing about Loronix Preview Center. It is very easy, just enter a search term and our database will return another set of songs, according to your selected cri...
Stan Getz - The Best of Two Worlds, featuring Joao Gilberto (1976)
2009-01-27 06:12:00
Hello, good evening! I'm trying to make this post since Saturday night. And I'm really sorry about this; I had to skip a really important celebration yesterday, which was Antonio Carlos Jobim, 82 years birthday. Additionally, I missed some announcements of friends that were celebrating Antonio Carlos Jobim yesterday, such as the great work made by Jassvan in New York, running a Marathon with Jobim's music and special guests on WKCR-89.9FM, also at www.wkcr.org. I'm really sad to miss this announcement and also missing the broadcast tribute itself. Jassvan always speaks about Loronix on his radio show and I urge Loronix's community to reach the radio website and listen to Jassvan show, broadcasted every Sunday at midnight. The show must go on, and I would like to upgrade this really nice and inexplicable underrated album, a Bossa Nova classic recorded in 1976 by Stan Getz , featuring João Gilberto and with the participation of Miucha. Let's see. This is Stan Getz - The Best of Tw...

Ed Lincoln - O Melhor de Ed Lincoln
2008-08-24 06:11:00
This album is with me for a long time, and I never had in mind to share at Loronix one day. However, every friend I show it says that Ed Lincoln is always worth checking; even if it is a compilation such like this one. By the way, some of these friends have been crying out for this post via email. Ed Lincoln is really popular, no matter in Brazil or abroad. If you were waiting for “O Melhor de Ed Lincoln”, your time has come. Let’s see. This is Ed Lincoln – O Melhor de Ed Lincoln (no date), for Musidisc, featuring well known Ed Lincoln cuts, blending instrumentals and songs with lyrics. Little I know about this album and I’m not an expert on Ed Lincoln discography to understand from which albums these tracks come from or the name of each special guest performing, but this is a nice album, especially for the late comers, a unique chance to get an overview of Ed Lincoln and then move towards to his regular career LPs. Tracks include:01 - O Ganso02 - The Blues Walk03 - Pergunt...

A hi-res version is available here.Hope uEnjoy!NEW! | Move your mouse over the image to see this challenge answer!
Elis Regina - Me Deixa em Paz (1972)
2008-08-21 06:35:00
There’s a lot to know about Brazilian music and a whole life is not enough to know everything. In my case, I have some important knowledge gaps, such as the vast discography of Elis Regina , considered Loronixer’s friends on a poll made two years ago, the best Brazilian diva ever. Little I know about Elis Regina discography and it is obvious that I don’t have any kind of information about this obscure album released in Portugal. Anyway, Elis Regina is a great singer and it has been a long time we don’t make one of her many albums. Let’s see. This is Elis Regina – Me Deixa em Paz (1972), for Pergola (Portugal), with arrangements and piano by Cesar Camargo Mariano. And this is all I know about this album, which is probably a compilation, a solid listen from the start to end. The front cover says Me Deixa em Paz is a special edition made to the members of a clube de leitura (reading club). I would like to be a member of this club; it was very hard to select the featured track...

Bola Sete e Seu Conjunto - Aqui Esta o Bola Sete (1957)
2008-08-20 07:33:00
Hello, good evening! I bought a new scanner; actually, the community bought it via donations to Paypal and the Brazilian alternative Pagseguro. I made some calculations; each album required eight scans, four passes on each side. Perhaps the old scanner did the job nicely, the load was huge, it was almost 4,000 (four thousand) scan in approximately 15 months. Anyway, the bottom-line is that nothing is stopping me now. And to celebrate, it is time to present another nice contribution made by Jorge Mello, featuring a legendary Brazilian musician. Let’s see. This is Bola Sete e Seu Conjunto – Aqui Esta o Bola Sete (1957), for Odeon, which is Bola Sete debut LP in the Para Dancar style. With the help of Jorge Mello, we are gradually completing Bola Sete discography in his early yearly years. And there is more to come since all these albums never had a chance to be reissued in CD. Bola Sete plays electric guitar renditions of Brazilian standards, Bolero and two compositions by his own....
Carolina Cardoso de Menezes e Orlando Silveira - Honeymoon in Rio (1956)
2008-08-19 08:53:00
I never imagined that a request made more than a year ago is now addressed by Loronix community after all this time, especially this album, a really hard to find record, never released in Brazil. We need to send Kudos to our friend Eric and his nice work on preparing hi-res scan covers from front and back, making also the transfer on WAV, enabling the creation of FLAC files that are growing fast in popularity after Happy Hour creation. I think it is time to publish my complete wish-list somewhere. Let’s see. This is Carolina Cardoso de Menezes e Orlando Silveira – Honeymoon in Rio (1956), for Capitol (USA), never released in Brazil, featuring the piano of Carolina Cardoso de Menezes and the accordion of Maestro Orlando Silveira, delivering Samba and Baiao, funny translated by Capitol as “Baions”. I would like to show you the delicious liner notes written by Capital, with the whole atmosphere of this record. Tracks include:…Romantic Rio offers that “certain” extra in its...

Dorival Caymmi - Caymmi (1985)
2008-08-18 07:58:00
I received couple of messages with congratulations to Loronix tribute to Dorival Caymmi. However, I was not comfortable by missing the chance to introduce and remember Dorival Caymmi with music. I woke up this morning with a non schedule Mom’s visit and this album, by the way, a double album featuring Dorival Caymmi on the first LP with his violao and Dorival Caymmi at the second LP with Radames Gnattali. My mother ran to a store on Saturday, getting this one for our tribute. You should thank her for the initiative. It is important to mention a strange coincidence here, which is the photo used yesterday on the tribute and the speeches of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Jorge Amado, Caetano Veloso and Carybe available at the first LP. Unfortunately, my scanner stills defective, delivering white stripes. I hope I can manage a new one tomorrow and update this post with this really amazing album. Let’s see. This is Dorival Caymmi – Caymmi (1985), recorded by Fundacao Emilio Odebrecht to celeb...

Dorival Caymmi
2008-08-17 07:00:00
I met Dorival Caymmi way back in 48, 49. I was very eager, I wanted to be a musician no matter what, and tried to get acquainted with him; afterwards we bec...
Challenge | Who are They?
2008-08-17 06:04:00
This is the first out a series of Loronix Challenge pictures sent by a friend that asked to keep his name secret. He sent a LOT of nice pictures and I hope he likes this first pick, which is, oops! I cannot say who are they, this is your mission. The first who say the name of the musicians, wins a 1-Month Rapidshare Premium Account. It is not necessary to identify who is behind the piston player, which is Rubens Bassini. What about the others? You can get a hi-res copy following this link. Good luck!Hope uEnjoy!
Marina - Simples como Fogo (1979)
2008-08-15 07:02:00
Hello, good evening! Since Loronix started, I got the habit of listening to at least one LP daily. Sometimes I use to hear albums that I would never consider a candidate of being posted at Loronix. I got also the habit of making the transfer to digital, no matter for Loronix or for my personal collection. My musical preferences are diversified. I like to hear rock and also love to take albums that bring me very good memory of the past. This is Marina debut LP, an artist never released before at Loronix and a singer that I like very much. It is also an album that brings back very good memories. I want to share these memories with this album that is really different from the music we use to hear at Loronix. Let’s see. This is Marina – Simples como Fogo (1979), for WEA, the debut LP of Marina, a Brazilian singer, composer and musician with more than 20 albums released in Brazil and several successful tunes composed with Marina most regular partner, her brother and philosopher Antonio...

Eumir Deodato & Lindolpho Gaya - Love, Strings and Jobim | The Eloquenc
2008-08-13 01:28:00
Hello, good morning! I will be out of home tonight, that’s why I’m making this extraordinary post this morning. By the way, a extraordinary post of a unusual album recorded in 1966 by Elenco with the original title as “Antonio Carlos Jobim Apresenta” and reissued in 1975 as “Love , Strings and Jobim | The Eloquence of Antonio Carlos Jobim”, a lust and cheat title with Antonio Carlos Jobim holding his violao at the beach. I said cheat title? Sure! Let’s know why! This is Eumir Deodato & Lindolpho Gaya - Love, Strings and Jobim | The Eloquence of Antonio Carlos Jobim (1966), for Elenco, featuring a constellation of Brazilian musicians with a single and important exception, which is Antonio Carlos Jobim that did not take part of this recording session. I’ve been wondering how many friends took this album as Antonio Carlos Jobim career record across four decades. Aloysio de Oliveira and Ray Gilbert’s idea was to introduce new artists to the American audience through...

Marisa - Viagem (1973)
2008-08-11 06:45:00
Hello, good evening! This is the mandatory and obligatory repost of the first Marisa Gata Mansa LP that I have the chance to make available at Loronix. And it has been a LOT of time; Viagem was released in 06 August 2006, three years and a few days ago. Everything changed since them, the music was available at 128Kbps on a zip file with a size of 32Mb. Now we are making it on 320Kbps on a zip file with 93Mb and additional FLAC file of 190Mb. By the way, as every new album, Viagem is also available with no Rapidshare at Loronix Happy Hour; you should not miss Happy Hour and also Marisa Gata Mansa. Let’s see. This is Marisa – Viagem (1973), for Odeon, now featuring high res cover scans from the back and front cover, including lyrics and personnel listing, something missing at the first issue. Marisa started her career in 1954 as a jazz interpreter, releasing her first solo LP in 1959. In 1956, Marisa met Dolores Duran replacing her as a singer in Bacará, a famous nightclub in Rio...

Dick Farney - JAM | Jazz After Midnight (1956)
2008-08-09 05:42:00
Hello, good evening! It is nice to show an album recorded by Dick Farney after a long time. Loronix last Dick Farney release was made on the very beginning of February. This album is really hard to find in its first 1956 issue. This is probably the first Dick Farney album in the 12-inch format, but I’m sure this is the first 12-inch made by Columbia in Brazil. Recorded live at Teatro da Cultura Artistica, Sao Paulo, 11 July, 1956, exactly nineteen years before the passing of George Gershwin. Let’s see. This is Dick Farney – JAM | Jazz After Midnight (1956), for Columbia, featuring instrumental renditions of George Gershwin music, performed by Dick Farney and top-notch Brazilian Jazz musicians, including the legendary sax player Case, Rubens Barsotti (from Zimbo Trio) and Chou Viana. This is really a JAM session, with no rehearsal by the musicians. Tracks include:PersonnelDick Farney(piano)Case(sax)Rubens Barsotti(drums)Chou Viana(bass)Track List01 - Strike Up The Band (George G...
Caetano Veloso - A Bossa de Caetano (2000)
2008-08-08 05:36:00
Hello, good evening! I think you should now be asking yourself why zeca is publishing an album released so early in 2000, which is a baby, according with regular Loronix releases, focused on much older music from the 50’s to the 80’s.The answer is quite simple, this album is out of print and it is really a treat, featuring Caetano Veloso Bossa Nova repertoire, taken from his releases from 1967 to 1999. Additionally, this is a lovely album and Caetano Veloso celebrates today, 07 August, his 66th anniversary. I’m a big fan of Caetano Veloso, one of the artists that most influenced my way of thinking Brazilian popular music. Happy Birthday, Caetano. Let’s see. This is Caetano Veloso – A Bossa de Caetano (2000), for Philips, featuring fourteen Caetano Veloso Bossa Nova cuts, including compositions of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes, Carlos Lyra, Marcos Valle, Joao Gilberto, and others. Only two Caetano Veloso compositions are available here. My very difficult choice t...
Orlando Silva - O Eterno Seresteiro (1969)
2008-08-07 07:07:00
Here we go on the last contribution made by my mother a couple of weeks ago, which is an album that I did not know the existence, featuring two important musicians, Orlando Silva , considered by many people (including Joao Gilberto) one of the greatest Brazilian singers of all time and Jacob do Bandolim, the master of bandolim playing, a well-known artist at Loronix. Let’s see. This is Orlando Silva – O Eterno Seresteiro (1969), for RCA, featuring Orlando Silva backed by Jacob do Bandolim with Conjunto Epoca de Ouro. Little I know about this album, recorded in the same year Jacob do Bandolim has passed, if not the last, it is one of the latest albums recorded by Jacob. Conjunto Epoca de Ouro musicians and arrangers are not credited, but Rildo Hora is credited as artistic coordination and probably has some influence on arrangements. Tracks include.01 - Serenata do Adeus (Vinicius de Moraes)02 - Modinha (Jaime Ovalle / Manuel Bandeira)03 - Falsa Felicidade (Paulo Medeiros)04 - Miste...

Doris Monteiro e Miltinho - Doris, Miltinho e Charme Vol. 3 (1972)
2008-08-03 07:59:00
Hello, good evening! The albums recorded by Doris Monteiro and Miltinho are among the most requested by our community. They are part of a series called Doris, Miltinho e Charme, with the first being released in 1970, until the last and fourth in 1973. I believe these albums are difficult to find, since it is the first from the series I’m proud to have. I never heard about a single album from this series being released on CD, these albums are really challenging, even if you not a regular Samba listener. Let’s see. This is Doris Monteiro e Miltinho – Doris, Miltinho e Charme, Vol. 3 (1972), for Odeon, featuring arrangements by Maestro Nelsinho, which is always a guarantee of nice trombone playing and arrangements on top of Samba. I think this third volume is the better than the other two we have already at Loronix, it is better produced, recorded with this truly amazing cover artwork. Maestro Lindolpho Gaya is in charge of music direction, such as many Odeon releases from the ear...
Irany Pinto e Seu Conjunto - Sambas em Surdina (1959)
2008-08-02 06:07:00
Hello, good evening! I cannot remember a busy and great week such as this one at Loronix. We had many events and a LOT of work. We had an important milestone reaching 3 million page views. Our funding campaign was also an extraordinary event. Loronix community could gather a considerable amount of money to purchase a dedicated server. I thought that it would take 20 days to accomplish our target and in only 2 days our goal was reached.Your response brings a great responsibility, and I decided to give a immediate response, putting the server in action in only two days. Actually, there were four days of intensive work, two days setting up the entire server and two days preparing our new website, Loronix Happy Hour, so far a great success, with over 150 subscriptions from several countries. The greatest Happy Hour functionality is the availability of the last Loronix day with no Rapidshare, making things much easier for those who follow Loronix on a daily basis.Well, I spoke a lot, but ...
