Saraiva - Sobre o Ritmo das Ondas (1964)

We have been with great Brazilian sax players since Loronix beginning, such like Paulo Moura, Moacyr Silva, Zito Righi, Juarez Araujo and many others. However, some others musicians that dedicated his life to this instrument or this family of instrument did not reach our website already. This post comes to show one of these artists that never had a career album made available to our community, although active on recordings or studio sessions. I think that Saraiva is a great start to this series, I could not find much info about him, but he recorded several albums, being this one his first. Let's see.This is Saraiva - Sobre o Ritmo das Ondas (1964), for Continental, presented here by a mid-70's Phonodisk reissue. Saraiva does not keep his playing connected with a given style, delivering Sambas, Boleros and mostly Choros. You will not find Bossa Nova standard tunes at Sobre o Ritmo das Ondas, all tracks are composed by Luiz dos Santos, which is probably the own Saraiva. I think Loro...

I could not believe when I found this album at the R$ 1 (one Real, or US$ .50c) section of an influential vinyl store in Rio de Janeiro. Perhaps a new employee did it by mistake because the eyes of the shop owner went big as a golf ball and his humor changed when I claimed this album by this price. This album was supposed to be one of the greatest zecalouro's mother findings ever. Let's say it still her great finding, but there is a major and unacceptable failure with this album. The vinyl played perfect on side A, however, side B is exactly the same as side A. Columbia made both sides as A by mistake. Since we made a Cris tina Buarque EP some weeks ago, friends got excited to hear the whole LP where that EP tracks were taken. I'm glad to find it on a very good condition in the beginning of this week, and I'm amazed with this album and with the delicate voice and Crist ina Buarque interpretation. I think we are entering on a phase where everybody is excited to know not credited artists behind Bossa Nova albums. Caetano Rodrigues comes to bring another contribution to our community. Caetano comes with a challenge, delivering an album that I could not gather any info about. Let's see.This is Os Romanticos - Bossa Nova (no date), for unknown label. Hello, good evening! Let's start today showing an album released by this tiny, but legendary and influential label Paladium, a favorite of 10 among 10 serious Bossa Nova collectors. Palladium was the first recording label established in the state of Minas Gerais, working close with Minas Gerais artists at the beginning of their career. However, these artists are not credited on Paladium albums with their real artistic names, such as this album, a very early recording by an obscure Antonino Pellicciari, which is in fact the renowned Maestro Aecio Flavio .These findings are being revealed by our friend vinylmaniac at CBox and several Paladium collectors, such like Marcelo "Sambassonic" Munhoz cannot wait to hear the next finding by vinylmaniac. Here we go on another record kindly sent by tcisalpino, which is so far our consistent FLAC contributor. tcisalpino makes something different, instead of a reposting he brings a LP never released before at Loronix, a nice and very solid album. This is the greatest Mon's finding ever, a pretty unknown reissue of the anthological Ze Maria album Tudo Azul , featuring vocals by Jorge Ben. This album was already available at Loronix with the blue cover of the first issue (available in your left), but the vinyl conversion was not so well done and probably several friends did not notice its availability and the importance of this record. Let's see.This is Ze Maria e Seu Orgao - Tudo Azul (1962), for Continental, upgraded by Disco Lar 1969 reissue. In spite of being an above the average instrumental organ album, including some tracks of true Samba Jazz style, Tudo Azul has one of the first participations of Jorge Ben on recordings, delivering vocals at 02 - Por Causa de Voce Menina and 07 - Mas que Nada. Jorge Ben was pretty unknown by this time and he got a contract with Philips just before this participation on Ze Maria's album. I think we will not go wrong making two albums in the 10-inch format in a row, starting with a very old album that I had the chance to take in opposite conditions, a perfect cover, just as it was released in 1953 and a really scratch media that I had to put some effort to make it ready. Hello, good evening! This is a really solid start for this Friday, an album that easily deserves a closing post, but I'm so excited with this music that I could not wait longer to show Loronixers. This is the second solo LP of this truly awesome Brazilian singer that started as member of the Brazilian progressive band A Barca do Sol. By this time, Olivia Byington had the artistic name of Olivia, which makes me feel confused sometimes with Francis Hime sister Olivia Hime. This is a pretty solid record. Let's see.This is Olivia - Anjo Caido (1980), for Som Livre, never released on CD and a very difficult to find album. I'm sure you will remember Olivia Byington participation as singer on Encontro, an album recorded live together with Turibio Santos, Paulo Moura and Clara Sverner. I'm really amazed by this series of 10-inch released by Abril Cultural in the early 70's as Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira. The first album with made with Billy Blanco had a really positive reaction. The repertoire selection is very well done and the eight-track format provides a really solid listening experience. It is now time to make the second, featuring a very important artist, a songwriter of Bossa Nova tunes that we like most. It was nice to hear Tito Madi rendition to Sangue Latino, a 1974 blockbuster by Secos e Molhados, he made it really different from the original. Little I know about personnel in this recording session and it seems it is a rule at the sequel, although we could not check what we have at A Fossa Vol. 2, which is the one with the nicest cover. This is the third album from the pianist Sacha Rubin at Loronix. Sacha was also the owner of the legendary Sacha's nightclub, in Rio de Janeiro, Leme, open for business throughout decades in the building left to mine. I want to start today with a great find, which is an obscure group assembled by Copacabana label in 1959, probably to give a response to Prestige and other record labels that were making a lot of money with their releases in the Para Dancar style. Copacabana created Sexteto Espetacular, featuring not credited musicians from their cast to deliver this album, really above the others.This is Sexteto Espetacular - Para Sua Festa (1959), for Copacabana. Little I know about Sexteto Espetacular, except it is the first and only album released by this sextet of not credited musicians that includes, piano, bass, drums, guitar, vibes and accordion performing a repertoire of Brazilian and international standards grouped as four medleys. This is in response of a friend who shouted at CBox for MPB-4 Antologia. I thought he was wrong, taking Quarteto em Cy - Antologia do Samba Cancao by mistake. I was a surprise to confirm MPB-4 Antologia existence and also to realize the album follows the same concept of Quarteto em Cy equivalent. Actually, MPB-4 Antologia was released one year before Quarteto em Cy both volumes. This is really nice. Everyday I learn a new thing at Loronix. Let's see.This is MPB-4 - Antologia (1974), for Philips, featuring medleys of selected artists, such like Antonio Carlos Jobim, Ismael Silva, Paulinho da Viola, Baden Powell and others.
