Dick Farney & Lucio Alves - Serie Idolos da MPB Nr. 6 (1974)
2007-09-25 06:27:00 Friends are asking why the 78-rpm records are not coming anymore. I'm sorry to give this answer, but I ran out of 78-rpms, not a major problem since friends are looking for new records and some contribution are scheduled to arrive in the forthcoming weeks. Meanwhile, let's remember the 78 rpm posts with this fantastic contribution sent by cvllos, great friend of zecalouro and a lucky LP hunter. Let's see. This is Dick Farney & Luci o Alves - Serie Idolos da MPB Nr. 6 (1974), for Continental, also known as "Relevo". cvllos contribution was very useful to understand "Relevo" series, in most cases featuring Continental compilations of 78 rpm. The folks at Continental made a very nice work with this one, delivering side A with Dick Farney and side B with Lucio Alves. There are several details to highlight on each track, such as the participation of Antonio Carlos Jobim e Seu Conjunto at 12 - Casinha Pequena and a Dick Farney track recorded in Argentina with Jorge Kenny and orchestr... Les 4 Cadillacs - Doucement, Cherie (1962)
2007-09-25 02:38:00 Here we go on what is gradually becoming a mania, Les 4 Cadillacs. Several friends are requesting this third release, made today as an additional post to the regular three daily releases. Let's see. This is Les 4 Cadillacs - Doucement, Cherie (1962), for Musidisc. Remembering that Les 4 Cadillacs is Ed Lincoln at piano backed by not credited musicians on bass, drums and guitar. Once again, Les 4 Cadillacs delivers anxiolytic renditions of American and French songs, starting and ending with Sweet Melody (Jean Paques). I'm showing a reissue made in 1971 by Replay label, instead of the original Musidisc. The cover is much better and the vinyl perfect. Tracks include:01 - Sweet Melody (J. Paques)02 - Nessuno Al Mondo (Rastelli / Gioia)03 - Georgia On My Mind (H. Carmichael)04 - Pepe (H. Wittstatt)05 - Non Dimenticar (P. G. Redi / M. Galdieri)06 - Maria (L. Bernstein / S. Sondheim)07 - Aimer Comme Je T'aime (H. Giraud)08 - I Can't Stop Loving You (D. Gibson)09 - When You Wish Upon a S... More About: Erie , Dill
Cid Gray e Sua Orquestra - Samba, Samba, Samba...
2007-09-25 02:00:00 Hello, good evening! Let's start the day with a contribution by Mauro R.V., an enthusiast of orchestra and Para Dancar albums. Mauro delivers to us a great finding, an album recorded by Maestro Cid Gray that even our specialist Caetano Rodrigues never heard about. Additionally, this is the second Cid Gray album at Loronix and the first by the tiny lable BSA, as BSA-001. Let's see. This is Cid Gray e Sua Orquestra - Samba , Samba, Samba (no date), for BSA, which is probably a RGE reissue, since BSA is a RGE subsidiary. Release date is unknown, but I think it is around 1959 to 1962. Thanks once again Mauro R.V., this should make the day of Caetano Rodrigues and countless fans of orchestra style at Loronix. Tracks include:01 - Este seu olhar (Tom Jobim)02 - Sofro (Nelson Alves / Verinha Falcão)03 - Recado (Djalma Ferreira / Luiz Antonio)04 - Vai, mas vai mesmo (Ataulfo Alves)05 - Levanta Mangueira (Luiz Antonio)06 - Meditação (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça)07 - Cheiro de saudade (...

2007-09-24 05:05:00 The mighty HansVonz delivers another nice Luiz Bonfa video to Loronix, an excerpt of Luiz Bonfa at Mike Douglas Show (1966), featuring Luiz Bonfa performing Batucada and Manha de Carnaval with participation of Mike Douglas on vocals. Thanks HansVonz, Loronixers will be pleased with this really nice one.Hope uEnjoy! More About: Video , Music , Music Video
Gilson Peranzzetta (piano) & Arthur Maia (contrabaixo) - Tom & Villa (1986)
2007-09-24 03:52:00 Here we go on another album connecting Brazilian Popular and Classical music, featuring a tribute to the greatest artists on each side, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Heitor Villa Lobos. I think this album is rather unknown by Loronixers, it was released by Coca Cola Beverage company to be distributed to clients and never was made available commercially.Coca Cola released this album to homage Heitor Villa Lobos on his 100th anniversary, celebrated in 1986, inviting Gilson Peranzzetta (piano) and Arthur Maia (bass), backed by the special guests Ze Nogueira (sax soprano) and Amando Marcal (percussion). Let's see. This is Gilson Peranzzetta (piano) & Arthur Maia (contrabaixo) - Tom & Villa (1986), for Coca Cola, featuring four instrumental renditions of Antonio Carlos Jobim and Heitor Villa Lobos Music. Gilson Peranzzetta is also musical director and arranger, being also responsible for creating Jobinianas Nr. 1 and 2, Antonio Carlos Jobim compositions blended with excerpts of Villa ... Astor Silva & Oswaldo Borba - Metais em Brasa no Samba (1962)
2007-09-24 01:12:00 Hello, good evening! Let's start this Sunday showing Loronixers a kind of album that is not been released for several weeks, an orchestra album with renditions of Brazilian standards in the Samba style. Brazilian maestros such like Portinho (the best in the style), Carioca and Zaccarias delivered several ones in the 60's, but this one is different, featuring two Maestros, both credited as the main performers. Let's see. This is Astor Silva & Oswald o Borba - Metais em Brasa no Samba (1962), for Philips, featuring Astor Silva in charge of arrangements and Oswaldo Borba as orchestra director and conductor. I'm having a special pleasure to show this album, a Loronix friend from Hungary wrote me today asking support for the creation of an international Astor Silva fan club. He said he could only know Astor Silva with Loronix and he is now crazy for recordings and anything else from the Maestro. This is fantastic and I will keep Loronixers informed as he better develop the idea. Tr... More About: Rasa , Aldo
Milton Banana Trio - Tipo Exportacao (Samba e Isso) Vol. 2 (1978)
2007-09-23 08:02:00 I'm really happy with this Samba Saturday day, three solid releases covering different Samba styles. We started with Marchinhas de Carnaval, performed by several Brazilian artists, with some of them never spoke before, then we moved to the 70's, showing Sonia Lemos and her third album for Continental, based on Samba de Raiz with Afro-Brazilian influences and the great finish with an artist that everybody likes, the legendary Milton Banana Trio . Three solid released very different to each other. This is Milton Banana Trio - Tipo Exportacao (Samba e Isso) Vol. 2 (1978), for RCA Pure Gold. This cover alone worth the admission price, but there is another very nice finding on this album, Milton Banana sings for the first time on recording and he sings the last track, a medley with Milton's tribute to Joao Gilberto. Personnel is not credited, but Milton Banana also writes liner notes and say special thanks to Maestro Cido Bianchi (in charge of arrangements), the bassist Claudio, the gui... More About: Nana
Sonia Lemos - Pedra de Agonita (1976)
2007-09-23 05:09:00 Let's move forward with the Samba Saturday posts showing an artist released in the end of 2006 with her debut LP, Sonia Lemos - Sonia Lemos e Sua Viola Enluarada (1968), the one with Sonia Lemos at Copacabana beach in your left. It is a very nice album with Sonia Lemos performing as a Bossa Nova singer. If you see this cover, it is easy to understand that Sonia Lemos made a shift from Bossa Nova to Samba de Raiz music with Afro-Brazilian religion influence, such like Clara Nunes and Beth Carvalho. Let's see. This is Sonia Lemos - Pedra de Agonita (1976), for Continental, featuring Sonia Lemos 8 years after her successful debut LP. Definitively, she is also a great Samba interpreter, but not in the first tier, such as Clara Nunes. I could not find much information about Sonia Lemos to bring more clarification on her shift, but Pedra de Agonita is solid, like any other recording in the style and counts with a constellation of Brazilian musicians. Tracks include:PersonnelLuiz Roberto,...
Carnaval | Rio Quatrocentao (1964)
2007-09-23 02:06:00 Hello, Good Evening! Let's try to make some Samba today, starting with this one, not exactly the kind of Samba that we use to release on Saturdays, but an album that really worth, presenting us a style that was very popular in Brazilian carnaval that just disappeared since the 80's. I'm talking about Marchinhas de Carnaval , a kind of Carnaval song with simple lyrics (to make it popular very fast), humor and melodies that will infect your head after the first hearing. Let's see. This is Carnaval | Rio Quat rocentao (1964), for Copacabana, featuring Copacabana cast performing Marchinhas for the 1965 Carnaval. Rio Quatrocentao features several artists that we never spoke about at Loronix, including Dora Lopes (coming soon with a solo LP provided by Mr. G.), Gilberto Alves, Walter Stuart, among others. Copacabana dedicated the best resources to deliver this album, including Altamiro Carrilho and Moacyr Silva as producers, Pachequinho, Pernambuco, Ivan Paulo and Washington Marinho as a...
Geraldo Vandre - Geraldo Vandre (1979)
2007-09-22 05:00:00 If you were living in Brazil during 1979, you were probably the happy owner of this album. I remember to have mine, as well, every musical friend I had. There is a reason, this album features for the first time the legendary song Pra Nao Dizer que Nao Falei das Flores, performed by Gera ldo Vandre under a stressing situation, he knew that military police was waiting to take him under arrest. This song was forbidden by the censorships since 1968 and this album brought it back to public after long 11 years. This is Geraldo Vandre - Geraldo Vandre (1979), for Som Maior, a compilation of Geraldo Vandre career, featuring Pra Nao Dizer que Nao Falei das Flores, also known as Caminhando. This song has a real importance, being the athem song against the regime. I heard or read in the past that "Caminhando" had participation on government decision to establish the AI-5, which is something that I will let friends discuss in comment section. Som Maior made changes in some songs, according with G... More About: Aldo
Joao Gilberto - Cantando as Musicas de Orfeu do Carnaval | EP 45rpm (1959)
2007-09-21 06:55:00 A Loronixer sent this album to us in the end of 2006 and did not identify himself. Since then, I have been searching for a missing track 04 - Frevo (Antonio Carlos Jobim). I decided today to do not wait anymore and I'm asking the help of our community to find this missing track and complete this little record. This is the reason why download is been provided as a direct link, no Rapidshare. This is Joao Gilbert o - Cant ando as Musicas de Orfeu do Carnaval | 45rpm (1959), for Odeon, featuring songs taken from Black Orpheus original song track. While friends are searching for the missing track, it is a good idea to listen to Joao Gilberto performing the three ones available. Tracks include:01 - A Felicidade (Antonio Carlos Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)02 - Manha de Carnaval (Luiz Bonfa / Antonio Maria)03 - O Nosso Amor (Antonio Carlos Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)04 - Frevo (Antonio Carlos Jobim) *missing track*This is Joao Gilberto - Cantando as Musicas de Orfeu do Carnaval | 45rpm (1959)... Billy Blanco - Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira Nr. 32 (1971)
2007-09-21 05:27:00 I'm not sure that everybody will remember when I introduced Loronixers to a series of albums dedicated to Brazilian artists with Chico Buarque edition on Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira - Serie Grandes Compositores. You can check Chico Buarque album here. Now it is time to get along with another series, which is my favorite, Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira, easily identified by this back cover. This series was released from 1970 to 1971 and it is very easy to find on old vinyl shops in Rio. Each edition comes with biography, beautiful color photos and something that is really great an LP in the 10-inch format featuring a compilation. This is Billy Blanco - Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira Nr. 32 (1971), for Abril Cultural, featuring eight Billy Blanco compositions, performed by Lucio Alves, Isaura Garcia, Jorge Veiga, Doris Monteiro, Maysa, Jamelao, Wilson Simonal and Billy Banco. I think Billy Blanco choice is correct; he is a very important Bossa Nova artist with l... More About: Pula
Paulinho da Costa - Paulinho da Costa (1984)
2007-09-21 02:19:00 Hello, Good Evening! Let's start today with Paulinho da Costa , a successful Brazilian musician that made his whole career out of Brazil, setting in the US since 1973. Paulinho da Costa is a percussionist and a requested sideman, playing with Sergio Mendes, Dizzy Gillespie, Joe Pass, Herbie Hancock, Ella Fitzgerald, among many other renowned artists. Paulinho da Costa solo albums were recorded sporadically with some really hard to track down, just like this one. Let's see. This is Paulinho da Costa - Paulinho da Costa (1984), for Columbia, featuring Abraham Laboriel, George Duke, Ernie Watts, among many others. Paulinho da Costa and group deliver a dancing album, such like the ones recorded by Sergio Mendes in the 70's and 80s, very well played. Look at Paulinho da Costa at this cover artwork; he is the kind of guy that seems to never have an headache or a bad day in his life. Tracks include:PersonnelRandy Waldman(piano, keyboards)Ernie Watts(flute, sax)Dick Hyde, Chucky Findley(tr...
Celeste - Laço de Cobra (1979)
2007-09-20 07:06:00 If you were already a Loronixer in October 2006, you will easily remember this singer and the great feedback given to her debut LP, Celeste - Cinco e Triste da Manha (1978), for Tapecar. Since then, several friends are requesting another release. I admit that I loose my hope. In spite of being an acclaimed singer, with enthusiastic statements of Ricardo Cravo Albin, Joao Roberto Kelly and Joao Gilberto, who said she had one of the most beautiful voices he have ever heard, Celeste recorded only three albums in the late 70's and disappear from the mainstream. However, Loronixers are very tuned with the wants and needs of our community, always surprising me. That's exactly what happened today, a couple of new great friends from Salvador, Bahia, sent this very hard to find album in the FLAC format. It is the first contribution in FLAC and a great addition to Loronix.Let's say thank you to Gabriel and Sergio Benutti, these guys are respectable vinyl collectors in Salvador and also very... Exposito e Sua Orquestra - Exposito '67 (1967)
2007-09-20 06:06:00 I decided to put the "Para Dancar" style on hiatus and Loronixers started asking for more very soon. I think my estimates are wrong, there are many fans of the style and they are fanatic and really participative. It is time to make it again, specially this one with this cover that is all about the 60's decade. Let's see. This is Exposito e Sua Orquestra - Exposito '67 (1967), for RCA Victor. In spite of being a very active artist in the 60's with many recordings released, this is only the second Exposito album at Loronix, the first one, Bossa with A Beat was a Caetano Rodrigues contribution and you can use Find It to take a look. Little I know about Exposito '67, the back cover does help on technical details, with the exception of this beautiful girl identification, Flavia. I'm wondering if Flavia is looking her nice photo, taken 40 years ago. Tracks include:01 - The More I See You (H. Warren / M. Gordon)02 - Love Me Please Love Me (M. Polnareff / F. Gerald)03 - Disparada (Gera... More About: Posi

Fernando Gallo, Seu Piano e Sua Orquestra - Musica, Brasil (1981)
2007-09-20 01:37:00 Hello, Good Evening! I want to start this Wednesday in the same spirit we finished yesterday, showing another album sponsored and recorded for a given company, which is Banco do Brasil , a major Brazilian financial institution. In spite of the great music we have here, this cover alone worth the admission price. Let's see. This is Fernando Gallo , Seu Piano e Sua Orquestra - Musica , Brasil (1981), for Banco do Brasil, arranged, directed and coordinated by Maestro Fernando Gallo. Actually, Fernando Gallo discography shows three albums, all recordings for Banco do Brasil. The repertoire features Brazilian standards, performed by top-notch musicians. This is a really nice orchestra album recorded with modern technology by really experienced musicians. Tracks include:PersonnelFernando Gallo(piano)Jorge Marinho(bass)Juquinha(drums)Neco(violao)T iao, Risadinha, Jorge(percussion)Netinho, Bahianinho(sax alto, clarinet)Moacyr Marques da Silva "Bijou", Aurino(sax tenor)Helio Marinho(sax baritone...
Zimbo Trio - Fianca (1981)
2007-09-19 07:34:00 There is a story behind this post. I received this album from a guy who lives in my building, by the way, a well-known musician. I did not take it from his hands; he puts on an envelope at the lobby. When I open the envelope I saw this enigmatic logo with the white background and no words. I just left behind, deciding to give a chance to understand what it was later. However, the symbol had something strange, looking familiar, as I had the chance to see it many times before. The answer came this week when I was visiting the website of our good friend Justin. Take a look at Justin logo, here or as a thumbnail in the left. Very wise of Justin to turn it upside down making this "F" as a "J".After this whole story, it was the time to check the LP again to learn more about this symbol and it was a great surprise to understand that "F" belongs to a Brazilian company called Fianca and the album was Fianca Christmas gift recorded by Zimbo Trio .This is Zimbo Trio - Fianca (1981), for Fianca. ...
Os Velhinhos Transviados - Embalados (1965)
2007-09-19 03:53:00 Jamil is a really good friend, he understood I was busy and in the same second sent to us this album. Jamil was not alone; he had the help of Chubb, which is someone that I don't know. Jamil made the music and Chubb the cover scans. Jamil is a big fan of Os Velhinhos Tran sviados, he says that every fan likes to see their favorite artists at Loronix. Thanks Jamil and thanks Chubb. This is Os Velhinhos Transviados - Embalados (1965), for RCA Victor. This band was very popular in the 60's, with many recording released throughout the decade. In spite of their popularity, Os Velinhos Transviados albums are not easy to find. Embalados has the same successful formula of previous releases, funny cover artwork and instrumental music with a touch of comedy. Personnel is not listed, except Ze Menezes, guitarist and Os Velhinhos Transviados leader. Conjunto 7 de Ouros - Impacto (1964)
2007-09-18 08:30:00 Hello, Good Evening! I'm really busy tonight with some really important calls scheduled. I like to make things under pressure. In spite of this busy night, the show will not stop at Loronix. Let's start great tonight, making a necessary update on one of the first Caetano Rodrigues contribution to our community, in response of a long time request of bossanovadreamer. This is Conjunto 7 de Ouros - Impacto! (1964), for Polydor, a anthological Brazilian instrumental music album, featuring several renowned Samba and Choro musicians delivering a overwhelming blend of Jazz, Bossa and Samba. There are major upgrades on music and cover artwork. Surprisingly, Myrzo Barroso sings on track 10 - Meu Pranto, which is something that I did not noticed the first time it was released at Loronix. Quarteto em Cy - Resistindo (1977)
2007-09-18 07:59:00 Mr. G., my personal Quarteto em Cy consultant, prepared last year a list of albums by the girls that should not be out of Loronix. I know the list by heart and this one is part of Mr. G. essentials. I miss Mr. G. briefing on this album, recorded live in December (1976) at Teatro Fonte da Saudade in Rio de Janeiro and I did not find Resistindo studio release. It is also the first "live" album I heard from Quarteto em Cy and the girls deliver a nice work. Let's see. This is Quarteto em Cy - Resistindo (1977), for Philips. I think the strength of Resistindo is the reduced accompaniment supporting Quarteto em Cy; there is no orchestra or brass section, just traditional bass, drums, guitar and piano, in charge of top-notch musicians, including the excellent Zeca on drums. I hope Mr. G., comes later with additional info and his personal highlights to Resistindo. Tracks includes:PersonnelLuiz Claudio Ramos(arrangements, violao, viola, guitar)Luizao(bass)Laercio de Freitas(piano)Zeca(drums)... More About: Quarteto Em Cy
Radames Gnattali e a Musica Popular (1990)
2007-09-18 07:05:00 Here we go on another album where classical music touches popular music. This kind of albums, such like yesterday's Maria Lucia Godoy, Turibio Santos and others, started on Loronix less than a few months ago. For my initial surprise, they are very popular and downloaded much more than my best estimates. Additionally, our community requests a lot works from Maestro Radames Gnattali and that's what we have here, a tribute album to Radames Gnattali never released commercially. Let's see. This is Radames Gnattali e a Musica Popular (1990), produced by Kuarup for the oil & gas company Atlantic, a tribute to Radames Gnattali featuring Orquestra de Cordas Brasileira, Joao Carlos Assis Brasil, Chiquinho do Acordeon and Beto Cazes, released two years before Radames Gnattali passing. Um Milhao por Uma Cancao (1963)
2007-09-18 00:58:00 Hello, Good Evening! I want to start today showing an album requested a long time ago by a friend, a compilation with the finalist of a very popular songwriting contest sponsored by a Brazilian TV in 1963, known as Um Milhao por Uma Cancao, which I'm free translating as "One Million for a Song". The organization of this contest received 5,000 songs, with 86 selected on a shortlist and then submitted to popular evaluation. This album features the 12 finalists. Let's see. This is Um Milhao por Uma Cancao (1963), for Philips, featuring the 12 finalists of Um Milhao por Uma Cancao songwriting contest. It is amazing that my searches did not result on the winner song and the respective order. The songs were performed by renowned artists of the early 60's and the 12 tunes are how can I say, excessive romantic songs, you know what I mean.Several Brazilian arrangers gave their collaboration to the finalists songs, such as: Pachequinho, Nelsinho, Ted Moreno, Guarana, Carlos Monteiro de Souz...
Maria Lucia Godoy - Maria Lucia Godoy Canta Poemas de Manuel Bandeira (1968
2007-09-17 06:00:00 Since the Brazilian classical singer Maria Luci a Godoy was introduced to Loronixers with O Cant o da Amazonia, a tribute to Amazon Rainforest recorded in 1969, I have been receiving emails and comments requesting more music from Maria Lucia Godoy. Andre Penazzi - Orgao Samba Percussao Vol. 2 (1963)
2007-09-16 23:30:00 Hello, Good Evening! Let's start addressing a request from friends who shout for Audio Fidelity albums and for Andre Pena zzi LPs. I'm addressing both with Andre Penazzi recording for Audio Fidelity, a label that has a value proposition and really excels in terms of recording quality. First, I have to admit that syringe is very disturbing and I could only understand that it is a graphic representation of something Audio Fidelity calls as "Doctored for Super-Sound" a couple of weeks ago. Let's see. This is Andre Penazzi - Orgao Samba Percussao Vol. 2 (1963), for Audio Fidelity. In fact, this vinyl has a very good output. It is also funny to read the back cover, with a lot of technical information on recording engineering wrote by Sidney Frey, Audio Fidelity president and only a tiny box describing the main performer, Andre Penazzi. Anyway, I recommend this one, so far the best album I heard by the Brazilian organist Andre Penazzi. Tracks include:01 - O Apito no Samba (Luis Bandeira ...
Les 4 Cadillacs - Doucement Novamente (1961)
2007-09-16 07:24:00 I will never do this thing again, I said I had three albums from this Ed Lincoln's group Les 4 Cadillacs and would make only one at Loronix. Since then, I received many emails from friends asking for the others. Ed Lincoln fans are really focused, even when Ed Lincoln is not performing with organ using his own artistic name. Let's see how this one performs. This is Les 4 Cadillacs - Doucement Novamente (1961), for Musidisc, following the same formula we knew at Doucement, Mon Amour, Ed Lincoln at the piano with not credited musicians playing an easy-listening repertoire of international music. There is an important difference; each side approaches a different continent. Side A brings rendition to Americas with songs from Brazil, United States, Cuba, Mexico, Paraguay and Argentina, while Side B brings Europe, featuring songs from Germany, Italy, URSS, France, Portugal and Spain. Liner notes written by Sebastiao Fonseca also refers the name of Jean Pacques. I could not understand why... More About: Amen , Dill
Aracy de Almeida - Noel Rosa | 78rpm (1950)
2007-09-16 03:42:00 Let's start this Samba Saturday at Loronix with a classy album, awaited by several Loronixers since it was presented months ago. I was very reluctant to make this album, since it is a gift given by a very special friend on a very special day, my first flight to Sao Paulo as zecalouro. It was also my first chance to meet Caetano Rodrigues.I want to say thank you, thank you, and thank you to Mr. W. He was the first Loronixer I could meet in Sao Paulo and I will never forget the support and this beautiful gift he gave and I kindly present here to Loronixers. This is Aracy de Almeida - Noel Rosa | 78rpm (1950), for Continental, which is a "box set" featuring three different Aracy de Almeida 78rpm recordings with Noel Rosa compositions.
