2008-01-29 17:14:00
The Lord loves a trier as my mother says, and Sheryl Crow is certainly persistent. She’s due to release her sixth studio album, Detours on 18 February. Sheryl’s hooked up with Tuesday Night Music Club producer, Bill Bottrell for what she describes as the most honest record she’s ever made.

Rejoice! New Kids On The Block Are Reforming
2008-01-29 13:50:00
You heard me right, Maurice Starr’s all-singing, all-dancing boyband, New Kids On The Block are reforming. With all these 90’s pop acts reuniting, there has never been a better time to have a midlife crisis. Funnily enough, we were sitting in the kitchen the other day trying to remember the dance moves to The Right ...

UK Pop Chart - 27 January 2008
2008-01-28 13:30:00
I must be in pissy form today, because just about every song on the top ten this week annoys me on some level. I’d been holding off on doing a review of Kanye West’s Homecoming single, because I thought it was quite a weak track. It scratched the top ten last week, but dropped out again ...

Hey, Did You Miss Me?
2008-01-28 12:38:00
Actually, don’t answer that… The reason Unreality Music’s been so quiet is a combination of a couple of days being sick and a weekend in lovely Prague. There don’t seem to be any Czech pop stars, or I would devote a post to their work. Needless to say, the place was very beautiful and very cold. Anyway, ...

Zutons Recording Untitled Third Album In LA
2008-01-23 16:30:00
Officially (in my opinion) the finest musicians to come from Liverpool, The Zutons are currently in the United States of America working hard on their new album. On their website, they say the experience has “taken our heads to a different place and it’s brought us closer together. Sometimes you have to go a million miles ...

UK Pop Chart - 20 January 2008
2008-01-23 14:38:00
Here’s the top ten for the week beginning 20 January 2008. Basshunter still hold the coveted top spot, while hot tip for 2008, Adele is the highest new entry at number two. The charts are fairly static beyond the top ten, proved by the fact that a lot of older singles have reentered such as With ...

For the last week or so, we’ve been running a poll on Unreality Music asking who you think will win the Best British Group award in this year’s Brits. Among the bands nominated are Arctic Monkeys, Editors, Girls Aloud, Kaiser Chiefs and Take That. Pundits are predicting a big year for pop acts in this year’s ...

Top-hatted rock god Slash and the guys from Velvet Revolver are rumoured to be working on material for their third album. Apparently the band could begin work on the new album as early as April of this year, just after they complete their tour (which starts tomorrow, by the way). “That’s the big thing right ...

Recommended Blog: New Music Strategies
2008-01-22 17:27:00
Andrew Dubber runs a blog called New Music Strategies . It looks at the new media landscape that the Internet offers and helps: independent musicians and music businesses adapt and thrive in the online environment. New Music Strategies is refreshingly positive. When you consider that the Internet is awash with anti-Music-Industry pap, most people writing about the business ...

Music Posts You May Have Missed, Episode 3
2008-01-22 12:37:00
I’ve come across a couple of great music-related posts recently. There are a few in here that should put a smile on your face… An excellent article over at The Trukstop that looks at the forthcoming Metallica album and how it might be received by fans. I wrote about this a while back, saying their style ...

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss going on tour
2008-01-22 00:08:00
The Robert Plant /Alison Krauss collaboration, Raising Sand, has been amazingly successful both Stateside and here in the UK. No surprise that the two are planning to pack their bags and tour in the USA and Europe. As you can see from our exclusive photo, Alison had some trouble understanding the concept of touring, so Robert ...

The Jayhawks - Smile
2008-01-21 22:58:00
I picked up the Jayhawks‘ 2000 album Smile a couple of years ago. If you’ve never listened to the Jayhawks before, I suggest you check them out. The popular term for their music is alt-country or something like that. The title track to Smile is a really sweet song - and one I wanted to share ...

Joss Stone - Baby Baby Baby - Single Review
2008-01-21 14:23:00
Ah Joss. Sometimes I love her, sometimes I mildly dislike her. She seemed to go through a diva period in the last year where she released no music, but complained a lot: about people commenting on her sudden American accent, about her British fans, and so on. It’s just not in keeping with her hippy-style ...

Rihanna - Don?t Stop The Music - Single Review
2008-01-21 11:30:00
Rihanna returns with new single Don’t Stop The Music , borrowing a line or two from Michael Jackson’s Wanna Be Startin Somethin along the way. If this single proves anything it’s how diverse Rihanna can be with her releases. Sure, she’s firmly grounded in pop, but she can handle the low-key hip-hop of Umbrella, flip to ...

Adele - Chasing Pavements - Single Review
2008-01-21 11:06:00
During the Brit Awards announcements, Adele said that she couldn’t understand all the hype surrounding her. After all, it’s not like she’s done anything yet. I get the impression that’s all about to change with the release of Chasing Pavements today (21 January 2008). You’d be forgiven for thinking this was Adele’s debut, but Chasing ...

Britney Spears - Piece Of Me - Single Review
2008-01-20 22:28:00
“I’m Miss American Dream since I was 17″, sings Britney in Piece Of Me. Well, until a couple of years ago, this was true. Nowadays, she’s more of a hideous freakin’ nightmare. No doubt the geniuses behind this ditty thought it would be funny to play on Britney’s tabloid image. But Piece Of Me reflects ...

Lily Allen?s Miscarriage
2008-01-20 21:21:00
I haven’t had much chance to comment on the music news during last week, but the most upsetting report was Lily Allen ’s miscarriage. Lily is one of those artists who’s so grounded you feel you actually know her. We discovered that the pregnancy was a surprise to her and boyfriend Ed Simons, but that they’d both ...

Robbie Williams: Rudebox The Road!
2008-01-17 11:09:00
It’s the ultimate kick in the teeth. When it was released Robbie Williams waxed lyrical about how it was his best album yet, so I can just imagine how he felt when he heard that all the unsold copies of Rudebox (and there were a lot of them!) have been shipped to China, and will ...

Hit 70s rock band, The Eagles are to follow in the footsteps of The Spice Girls and Led Zeppelin and play a string of dates in London’s O2 Arena . The legendary group, who formed in 1971, broke up in ‘81 and reformed in 1994, are expected to play hits from the 70s as well as from the more recent new Long Road Out of Eden album. They will play the O2 on March 20, 23, 23 and 26.

Scouting For Girls
2008-01-15 14:20:00
I read an hilarious review of the Scouting For Girls album over on Drowned In Sound today that riffs on about ‘Mondeo Pop’: described as ‘indie with a mortgage’. The reviewer, Carrie Bradshaw Layfield lays into the band in a big way, and puts her many points across with an enthusiasm and flair which I just had to share with you guys. (more…)
Bullet For My Valentine - Scream Aim Fire - Single Review
2008-01-15 08:50:00
Wales’ finest metal act - Bullet For My Valentine - return to the scene with new single Scream , Aim, Fire . This is my first experience of the band but…damn! After a gutfull of pop music recently, it’s satisfying to hear good old-school metal like this: heavy, intense, brutal. I’m actually stoked that the UK is still putting out metal acts with this ferocity. Matt Tuck’s throat-ripping screams are awesome. If what I’m reading is correct, he’s not even at full strength due to an illness. Extra credit to the amazing drumming from Michael Thomas - that guy knows how to pound the skins. Unfortunately, I can only point you to the Scream, Aim, Fire video since YouTube doesn’t allow embeds on this one.

New Lenny Kravitz Album: It Is Time For A Revolution

My favourite retro rocker, Lenny Kravitz, is coming back in February with a new album entitled It Is Time For A Love Revolution . News like this just makes me want to dig out all the old Kravitz albums, so I can’t wait to hear what he’s come up with. As per any artist, Lenny is ...

EMI: Artist Strikes, Cost Cutting and more?
2008-01-14 11:03:00
You all know I’ve been watching the situation at EMI with interest over the last couple of weeks. I think the most interesting aspect of the debate is on where EMI is headed and the affect their new direction will have on their artists. Market Research Shockingly, EMI apparently don’t do any market research before releasing an ...

Christina Aguilera Pops Out A Baby
2008-01-13 23:03:00
I don’t normally comment on the salacious non-music news like singers having sprogs, but in the case of Christina Aguilera , I’ll make an exception. The reason? Well, knowing how the ladies love to scream during childbirth (except the Scientologist ones), I wondered if a diva like Aguilera would hit any high notes. She’s famous for hitting ...
