This video is old (from around 2002), and I’ve even had the DVD for quite a while, but I figured if you haven’t seen this yet you should. It shows how fun hip hop can be. This is all live, and they all go off on MPCs rocking out. It’s a beautiful thing.

T-Pain Vocal Effect

Antares Autotune This is a much-talked about vocal effect, especially with the rise of T-Pain (and even on a smaller level Akon). You may also remember the effect on California Love. Cher using this effect too. Now, of course you don't want to sound like Cher but she's pretty much out of our minds by now, so we can move on and accept the synthesized love that is .. the talkbox effect . Here I'll tell you how to do it.What you're going to need for this is Antares Autotune (or a talkbox.. but.. i'm going to assume that you don't have that). Auto-tune is a Direct-X plugin that you can use with Cool Edit or whatever mixing program you'd like. Well, load it up and put the following in: Key - C Scale - Major Retune - 0 Tracking - 75 Rate - 0.1 Variation - 0 Onset Delay - 0 Onset Rate - 0 Pitch - 0 Amplitude - 30 Formant - 100 There you go. Put that on your choruses or whatever, and enjoy.

9th Wonder 9th Wonder has been receiving major attention in the past little while, capitalizing on the publicity he received from Jay-ZÂ’s Black Album. We all knew him before that though, of course, being underground gangsters, due to Little Brother. Anyways, thereÂ’s a neat little feature on Hip Hop Game called Ask 9th Wonder. Even if youÂ’re not a big 9th Wonder fan itÂ’s still neat to see how other people are doing beats and their opinions on various shit. At least, I hope you find that interesting, otherwise IÂ’m curious as to what the fuck youÂ’re doing here, haha. So I recommend checking the segment out, and even asking your own questions if you have any.

Check this video out. This kid's named Big Korey (ironic name, cute). He's 7. The beat isn't too bad either. It's just cool seeing somebody so young being so comfortable with the equipment. Enjoy.

Lil Flip - Time After Time

Lil Flip I had to bring attention to this song for two reasons. First of all, it's dedicated to the VT Tech situation, and is actually good and doesn't seem like a marketing ploy, which is good. And secondly, as you could have guessed it samples Time After Time. Surprisingly, the beat is sick. I don't know how the fuck that works, but it does. Anyways, go check it out at AllHipHop.com. If you're serious about your hip hop beats than you probably know about this website already, but things slip under radars all the time, so I figured I'd share this. This is arguably the most useful beatmaking website you could find. The-Breaks.com has two uses: 1. To figure out the sample in another song. 2. To find out whether a sample you're using has been used before. Both of those are crucial to your success as a beatmaker. Well, unless you don't sample. (It's still neat though, admit it.) Review of 4 VST Plugins

VST Plug ins If you didn't know, VST's are plugins for audio production, giving you more sounds and all that good stuff so you don't hear even more hip hop beats made with FL's Sytrus over house drums. These are reviews of some of the more popular ones. They aren't free, but they're useful if you're doing non-sample based computer production. Edirol Orchestral - Great orchestra sounds. Full brass, strings, and everything you would expect from an orchestral package. I haven't used any others to compare to because after this, there wasn't much need for anything else. The price tag is a little steep though, at $385, so I'm sure if you were willing to look around and maybe sacrifice some quality you could find a cheaper program. Absynth - This Native Instruments plug-in is very good if you know how to use it, but is definately an acquired taste. It's best used for backgrounds and soundscapes, if that's what you're into it. The Direct ory @ The Producer's Den.com There are still some changes that will be made, and some customization, but if you don't feel like waiting then head on over. Everything is working, I do believe. The link is in the navigation on the right. What's it for? Artists > Post up your website to get some more traffic, and check out the beat maker listings to find beats to buy. Producers > Post up your beats to advertise to more potential clients, and search through the Artists to find somebody who will suit your beats. General hip hop fans > Find undiscovered talent to listen to in the Artist section, and check out the other sections on hip hop news etc. I'm hoping this directory takes off, and it's up to you to make it. If any of you have been paying attention to the blog or the website, you'd know that El-P's sophmore effort I'll Sleep When You're Dead is out. El-P has been making moves as a producer for the Definitive Jux squad for some time now, producing hits for Cage, Aesop Rock, and more of your underground favourites. He gets The Producer's Den stamp of approval for his attempts to be creative and break the mold set by hip hop standards today. Featuring guest appearances by Cat Powers, Trent Reznor of NIN fame, and all the El-P goodness we've come to love since Fantastic Damage, this CD should be at least checked out, if not bumped repeadedly.
