Blackpool Hotel
2007-10-24 05:47:00 I guess if you are going to visit Pleasure Beach theme park in Blackpool you might want to consider staying at Blackpool Hotel a new 4 star hotel which is just next to the beach. It is said to offer oversized American space! Now if you are familiar with hotels or bed and breakfasts in UK, you will know most rooms are tiny. Some are situated in older buildings and they don't offer much in terms of space. So when Blackpool Hotel says it has oversized American space, you should be estatic :)If you visit the website and take a virtual tour, you will notice that the hotel is modern and contemporary with a fitness facilities and complete with its own bar and restaurant.I should go tell James about this hotel. This is a sponsored post More About: Travel , Pay Per Post
Psalm 119:89-96
2007-10-24 05:42:00 Forever, O Lord, your word stands firm in heaven.Your faithfulness extends to every generation,as enduring as the earth you created.Your laws remain true today, for everything serves your plans. If your law hadn't sustained me with joy,I would have died in my misery.I will never forget your commandments, for you have used them to restore my joy and health.I am yours; save me!For I have applied myself to obey your commandments.Though the wicked hide along the way to kill me,I will quietly keep my mind on your decrees.Even perfection has its limits, but your commands have no limit. Beds
2007-10-24 05:28:00 Speaking of preparing for winter. I realize that our bedsheets don't fit the new bed. We had a queen sized bed in the old apartment and here at our new place, it is a king. I made do by anchoring down the ends with tiny safety pins but it didn't work. So we have to think about new sheets when we buy a new quilt.Well since I am on the subject of beds and bedsheets. I happen to come across French Beds which showcased some really nice romantic beds. They have such pretty headboards or bed posts all with details and carvings which make them so quaint. Some are quite elaborate and too fancy for my taste. I like the simple white beds. I have a dream of having a house furnished in white - that is if we don't have kids :)This is a sponsored post More About: Personal , Home , Pay Per Post
Cooler Weather
2007-10-24 05:12:00 The weather changed ever so suddenly. It was a nice warm and sunny 28C with a cooling breeze that made it pleasant to walk around outside and in a week that I was away, I came back to very much cooler temperatures of 24C. It might only be a difference of 4C but somehow it meant having to put on a sweater, wear long trousers and socks when before, I was in shorts and tees.I know it is not very cold compared to what we have in store when winter comes but my feet protest. Somehow when my feet are cold, I feel cold. So I went out to buy a small heater cum blower which I can place at my feet to keep them warm. Aah! Bliss to have warm feet.I am anticipating my first winter. I've traveled many times to other countries during winter but being there a week or so can't compare to being here the whole 3 months of it. I am busy preparing. We now have to buy a thicker quilt of down or wool to replace the thin cotton one we had for the summer months and we've been shopping around. I've also bo... Theme Parks
2007-10-24 04:52:00 I am crazy about theme park rides especially ones that cause your heart to do flip flops and the blood rush to your head. I love the opportunity to scream at the top of my lungs without having people think I am mad and it is a stress reliever, if not anything else.Theme Parks have roller coasters and I really want to go on the one with the loops. The adrenalin rush I get is amazing and I hope when age catches up, I won't ever lose my nerve.I once saw an old woman up on a theme park ride where 2 opposing swings circle and at one point turns upside down. People were getting off the ride all wobbly and disoriented but she came out right as rain and as straight faced as it would be, if she was just walking in the park!Imagine this ride where your legs are dangling in mid air while you fly!I only know of a friend who sits on these exciting rides and still not feel the rush. His threshold for these things must be really high - he watched me scream, bemused and even wanted to take a pictu... More About: Fun , Travel , Friends
Nice Weather ...
2007-10-21 15:07:00 For just about anything. We went cycling, walking around and the driving range - no sweat, literally! And it was a very sunny day outside today - the best kind of day to enjoy the cool autumn air heady with the scent of the osmanthus flower. We started the day listening to a sermon downloaded from All Souls Church - my understanding of grace is forever changed. At mid morning we cycled out to the city to check out this bookstore. It is called Librairie Shalom. If you know what Shalom means, then you may know what type of books it sells. We were nicely surprised. Sad to say most of the books were in Mandarin. There were some good titles, we could see and a lot of gift items for sale which makes this a good place to shop for small Christmas gifts.Tianyi Square was lively with lots of people. We took a walk back to Tianyi Square to look for food to appease our already growling stomachs. A simple lunch of buns from Bread Talk is always satisfying and taken with a cafe latte is bliss to me ... More About: Personal , Weather , Golf , Nice
Xi'an, China
2007-10-21 10:07:00 Travel Sites - Day Two(Day One)Very early on China 's National Day our taxi driver met us for our day tour around Xian. He had the route planned for us and first stop was, Banpo Neolithic Museum which was not too far from the city.It was still too early for my system so I walked around a bit blur with David and our Chinese speaking guide (Most tourists sites offer a free Mandarin speaking guide. At some places, you have to pay and not all have English guides). A lot of things were lost on me due to the language but David tried his best to translate or explain. It was amazing that the museum was the archaeological site itself which is said to be 6000 years old. I reference history's time line with the birth of Christ, 2000 years ago and I was kinda amazed that this site in China dates back so much further. The other amazing thing was the museum building itself. It was constructed purely of blue sky Lantian jade. It didn't look much like jade but it certainly felt cold like it. We d... More About: Travel
Virtual Assistant
2007-10-18 06:15:00 David is reading a book titled, The World is Flat by Thomas L. Friedman and while reading it, he has been telling me how the author writes about the changing world. It is indeed changing and becoming more global where geographical boundaries don't exist anymore. It is scary if you don't try to keep up to date with new technologies that change the way we do business, communicate and interact. If you don't keep up and keep updated, you'll soon find that your job is no longer secure and another person in another country is able to take over your role.As scary as it sounds, it is inevitable and on the upside, opens up opportunity for people in that other country to secure a job where previously impossible. The fact that we are connected in the world wide web makes it possible for distance to become irrelevant.Who knows, maybe one day, it'll be "Beam me up, Scotty!!"For the moment, because of technology, it is possible to outsource work. Everyday Minerals
2007-10-16 05:24:00 I think I've mentioned several times that I am not much of an online shopper. But I have tried it twice after being recommended by Sesame of Viva Woman. I may not know her personally but I've been following her skincare and make up reviews and also her beauty tips. And I find her reviews, honest and informative. I also like that she finds a lot of site that supports PayPal payments and I stick to payments via PayPal to restrict my online spending.Well my shopping experience at Everyday Mineral s was due to Sesame's tip that you can order a free sample while paying minimal shipping cost. I am always open to free stuff :) So I make the order and wait expectantly. After 3 weeks and no sign of a package, I decided to email the site's customer service. Then I forgot all about both the order and the complaint.3 weeks ago, the package arrives and I was happy but then a week ago I got a refund in my PayPal account and it was the shipping costs charged by Everyday Minerals. I wrote to the...
Shopping Smart
2007-10-16 04:45:00 Like I said, I am not much of an online shopper. If you are, you would be better off paying attention to online discount codes to get some bargains. You can find coupon codes for almost anything from clothes, shoes to computers. I notice that they have HP coupons and I was so taken by my friend's HP Pavillion Tablet Laptop that I am tempted. I wonder if the HP coupons and discounts are good enough for me to consider a new laptop?I know David won't agree even if the coupons gave a 50% discount! This is a sponsored post More About: Shopping , Smart
The Environment
2007-10-15 13:47:00 Be careful to seek out all the commandments of the Lord your God, that you may possess this good land, and leave it as an inheritance for your children after you forever (1 Chr.28:8)If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever (1 Tim 5:8)The 2 bible verses indicate that Christians have a responsibility to provide for their children and to leave for them an inheritance of faith and the gift of good land - a creation respected and well-kept. In line with Blog Action Day, I truly believe that we have to celebrate the wonder of creation and inculcate a right attitude towards the environment which God created and upon which we depend. Ningbo Museum of Art
2007-10-06 16:57:00 I went to the Ningbo Museum of Art today to look at Rembrandt's etchings. I only now find out that etchings are created by drawing with a needle onto a resin-coated plate. When the plate is immersed in acid, the needle lines are cut, or etched, into the plate. Technically, producing an etching is not unlike creating a drawing! It was a pleasant afternoon out and I enjoyed the quiet and peacefulness of the museum. More About: Travel , China
Portable DVD Player
2007-10-05 09:36:00 As we travel a fair bit, taking along a portable DVD player might ease our boredom on some long train journeys and time waiting around at airports. I know we can actually watch DVDs on the computer but it is cumbersome to turn on the computer sometimes, especially when you have cramped seating areas.A portable 10 inch DVD player is smaller and more compact and I could easily slip it into my knapsack. I had a look at the ones offered here in China and I must say that they don't come cheap. The prices offered at Digital Framez look more affordable and with worldwide shipping available, I can have one delivered to me in no time.I realize that the unit can also be used for viewing pictures. I have taken a lot of photos this past year and if anyone is willing to spare the time, I'd be most happy to show them! But I prefer not to let my friends suffer through this ordeal - it is like forcing people to view your holiday slides - boring and so boring! So the only person who'd want to see... Xi'an, China
2007-10-05 04:31:00 Travel Sites - Day OneWe wandered the city after checking in to the motel and booking our private taxi for the tour around Xi'an.Our first destination was the Drum Tower (Gu Lou). We were hoping to get some food as lunch on the flight was dismal. It was already late afternoon and you can see that people traffic was building up! The drive there on the taxi was interesting - it was all modern buildings all the way until you reached the Clock Tower (Zhong Lou) in the center of the walled city, standing old and majestic in the middle on a roundabout while buses and cars were zooming past, honking in the exhaust filled air. Some street scenesThe taxi dropped us off in front of the Drum Tower. We didn't go up to the tower deciding instead to wander through the tunnel onto the Muslim street. It was so festive with traders selling their food and souvenirs. The street was teeming with tourists and locals busy purchasing foodstuff and eating by the street.I wrote a post on my food blog d... Affordable Travel
2007-10-04 19:08:00 I think travel is getting affordable what with budget airline and budget hotels. I very much prefer to travel the lonely planet style - you get to experience more of the city and the culture. If you stayed at a five star hotel, you get served international cuisine and you hardly ever meet people on the street with rushing here and there accompanied by your English speaking tour guide!I usually stay with family and friends when I travel to Australia except for one night in Port Stephens up in Newcastle and another in Hunter Valley both of which, rooms were booked and paid for by David's client so I haven't had a chance to explore budget travel there. This was taken in 2005 and it was a cloudy day!I can't wait to visit Sydney againI am interested to explore more the next chance I get to go down under. One of my favorite cities is Sydney. I am sure Sydney Hotels are pretty expensive unless there are last minute deals online.David's sister lives in Melbourne and I have another friend... A Dream Garage
2007-10-04 18:47:00 Most men would love to have a garage - somewhere to put their dream machine and to house all their tools. As Tim the tool man would say in his caveman voice, "Urgh, Urgh!"My dad didn't have a garage but he had a tool room and it was an amazing place filled with all kinds of gadgets and complete with a work bench. We were trained from young to handle simple tools and to fix things around the house but we usually just end up holding the torch for him when he tries to fix things in dark places!. He would always explain how things work and over the years watching him and helping him, I would say I can safely change a light bulb or replace an electrical plug or screw together an Ikea kitchen trolley all by myself!I guess if he had a garage he would make sure the garage lighting was good enough to work in any condition. This is a sponsored post More About: Family , Garage , Dream , Pay Per Post
Xi'an, China
2007-10-04 17:53:00 Travel ArrangementsDavid and I traveled to Xi'an for a short break. We left last Sunday morning and came back to Ningbo on Wednesday mid morning. It is also because of China 's national day holidays which lasts this whole week.David usually makes the flight or train bookings and he also takes care of the accommodations when we travel. I do the research and plan out our day to day activities. It has worked well so far :)He used eLong a China travel web page which is also recommended by a friend. The service was efficient. Once he booked our plane tickets online, they called his mobile and spoke English. Then they arranged for their local agent to contact us and delivered the e-tickets to our doorsteps! We paid the delivery guy the cash and got our confirmation within 3 days. The only hitch was with the delivery agent - he wasn't on time and we had to postpone an appointed time!Well we did get on the flights and there were no problems with our bookings to and fro so we can attest th... Short Breaks
2007-09-25 16:18:00 I really love beach holidays but I doubt I am going on any soon :( I shan't complain because while I am in China, I do have the opportunity to visit as many places of interest as possible and since the week long national holiday is coming up, we've decided to go to Xian. Not quite sun, sea and sand but it would be an eye opener to visit another ancient city.We booked our air tickets online and had the tickets delivered to our door. It is nice to visit a website where you can book everything you need for your travel needs, get special offers and find information of the place you intend to visit as well. This is a sponsored post More About: Travel , Pay Per Post , Breaks , Short , Brea
Fireflies
2007-09-23 05:49:00 Our church cell group decided to go on an outing instead of our regular meetings on a Friday while we were back home. They all decided to go see fireflies in Kuala Selangor.Kuala Selangor also happens to be David's mother's home town.We drove there early in the evening to avoid the Friday traffic congestion. There were 5 of us in our car and we set off the earliest. The other 2 cars left later waiting for some of our members to finish work.Enroute we passed by this little coffee shop reputed to serve the best steamed buns and yam pastry. Sadly we went too late. It was so good that you'd have to order in advance else they'd be sold out by mid afternoon. We were considerably early and had more than an hour to wait for the rest so we decided to stop by a coffee shop to have a pre-dinner snack. To our surprise, we enjoyed the food. The clock tower is a landmarkWith still time to kill we decided to take a walk around the area. David led us to see his grandmother's old house. The whole... Scuba Diving
2007-09-23 05:31:00 I have to admit. I am terrified of scuba diving!I consider myself a good swimmer but somehow can't get the knack of using the scuba mask which plugs my nose and I find it difficult to breathe. David on the other hand loves diving. We've been to Maldives and he enjoyed himself. I stayed near the boat to snorkel and even then had trouble with the mask. Free style swimming works much better for me.Another person who loves Scuba Diving is my friend Michele and she's been to countless diving trips this year. She would find Scubish.com a very useful site indeed - a site where she'd be able to find the hottest diving destinations and get all the information necessary for that location.Incidentally we were invited to join some friend for a dive trip to Sipadan but it was planned for the end of September so we can't make it. It would have been fun - David gets to dive with his friends and I would just enjoy solitude by the beach lulled by the sounds of the waves. More About: Travel , Friends , Pay Per Post
First Week Back
2007-09-22 17:12:00 What was supposed to be an uneventful week turned out to be quite fulfilling after all. David went straight to work on Tuesday even though we were tired out with traveling the day before and only arrived back close to midnight. By the time I went to bed it was already past 1am.I was just lazing around while David was at work, slowing sorting out the food items and unpacking. I did a bit of cleaning here and there but nothing major. I didn't expect much to happen until probably the weekend but to my surprise I got invited to a bible study group during the week.We were over an hour late to the study on Thursday because I got the times mixed up but we were glad we didn't cancel. We met some new friends and hope to be able to join them regularly.I also haven't started cooking yet because I haven't been feeling all that well since I got back. It could be the change of weather - now that it is constantly raining and getting a bit cooler. This afternoon, we went out to meet our friend, ... My Newborn Nephew
2007-09-19 14:33:00 This is Tobey, born 9th of September 2007. He is my brother & his wife Mei Hsien's first child. Can you see his mouth - that is our signature mouth. All of us were born with a lip curl :) The thick hair is from Mei Hsien's side of the family - we were all born very little hair. I am glad his due date was around the time we were back home so I got to meet him first. From now I'd have to rely on my brother's initiative to send me pictures and keep me updated on his growth. Hair Loss
2007-09-19 04:19:00 I posted about my allergy to a certain shampoo sometime back and it was actually a type that would have prevented hair fall. David complains that my hair is all over the house and he has a hard time trying to clean the floor! It is a good thing that I have short hair now - it was terrible when my hair was long.Everyone in my family has thick hair except for my dad. He is now in his sixties and has a very 'high' forehead :) His hair was thinning for as long as I can remember and he used so many different products for his hair. There are quite a few methods to prevent hair loss. Some use special shampoos or serum like Procerin targeted to prevent hair loss. There are also supplements like Provillus which helps from within. I read somewhere that sometimes the amount of gels, mousse, and hair styling products we use on our hair can contribute to hair loss not to mention too much blow drying.I wonder if I have anything to worry about since my hair falls a lot. I know prevention is bett... More About: Personal , Health , Hair , Loss
Typhoon Wipha
2007-09-19 04:12:00 According to news sources and friends in Ningbo, Typhoon Wipha might just pass through Ningbo bringing strong winds, today. People have been advised to stay at home and schools are closed. The weather looks fine to me this morning with intermittent showers - no dfferent from Malaysia. David has gone to work and I shall be doing what I always do here in Ningbo - be on my computer chatting with friends, reading news and trying to earn some money on my blogs. If the skies are clear, I'll pop over to the market later to pick up some vegetables and some meat to cook for dinner.Life goes on... Skin Nourishment
2007-09-18 05:06:00 My skin has taken a turn for the worse due to the changes in weather and also the stresses of the past weeks.Summer in Ningbo was so hot and my skin was constantly oily. While back in Malaysia I had no time to take care of it except to go for one facial and now that I am back in Ningbo once again, I figure that I had better take better care before winter comes and my skin becomes dry and which is why I am curious to find out about the Gāc fruit, a tropical superfruit with a rich history of medicinal use in Asian households.Gāc (Momordia Cochinchinemis Spreng), is a bright-red fruit that grows as large as a cantaloupe and abundantly on vines all over sub-tropical Asia, especially in Vietnam. Beta-carotene, a natural carotenoid antioxidant found abundantly in Gāc fruit, helps boost the immune system and assists the skin?s cellular rejuvenation process. Carotenoids as plant pigments function as protection of the plant against excess sunlight. As a result, their nutritional value is esp... More About: Health , Skin , Pay Per Post
Back Home in Ningbo
2007-09-18 04:26:00 I can't believe that it actually feels like home in Ningbo . We arrived about midnight yesterday and immediately felt a sense of belonging. It is scary to feel like that since we have no thoughts of relocating permanently to China. To me, this stint, is like an extended overseas trip!I figure that having a more permanent place in Ningbo makes me feel at home and again, I was reminded by someone just the day before we left that, home is where the heart is and so I guess this is home for a while.I've got loads to do today since we brought back 2 suitcases full of food and cooking stuff which needs to be sorted out, not to mention laundry and house cleaning. I've also got to catch up on my blogging! More About: Personal , Home , Back

Binoculars
2007-09-05 03:41:00 Christopher's birthday is coming up and so will Jack and Jay's. They are all David's nephews and I have to scratch my head to think of a present to buy them. For Jack and Jay, I'll end up ordering online and sending to them because they live in Australia. As for Christopher, I was thinking to give him an ang pow and let him spend the money on something he wants.Christopher is the oddest kid I know. Every time I ask him what he wants for birthdays and Christmases he always answers, "Nothing!" He claims he has too many toys and there is no space for them. Now why would a 9 year old boy say that?I asked his mom once and she told me that it is because he prefers cash!! He doesn't want the money to spend - he saves it!Today I am writing about celestron binoculars and I thought back to the time when I was young. My brother and I used to get so excited to use my dad's binoculars. We got such a thrill to use it and spy on our neighbors! We'd also use it to "hunt" for the cat next door... I am So Tired...
2007-09-04 16:44:00 but I still need to post!It helps me clear my mind. Seriously it helps!I've been running around with a little exercise book with my handwritten list of do to items, my handwritten date calendar and also a day planner! I wrote out all the days I have here in KL on a page each so that I could pen in all the appointments and David's as well. The book is looking quite mangled because I've been flipping through it almost every hour. I think I'd be lost without it now!In between running errands and packing up our things, we've managed to eat at all our favorite places. Basically eating all hawker fare! Since our house is a mess and I've packed up most of the kitchen things, we can't cook so eating out is the best solution - also satisfies our appetite for what we've missed in the past 3 months.Although there has been a few adjustments as to our appointments, we are glad that we are still on track as far as getting the important things done.Today our neighbor has taken Max for a tr...
