Hobbies Costly
2008-05-14 19:37:00
In ages past, hobbies and collecting were done mostly by those with extra income and time. People may have the same amount of time now but not the same amount of income so they will let their pastimes go by the wayside.

Vitamin Packs
2008-05-09 19:28:00
Vitamin packs. They seem appealing but are they really better or cheaper? I take a multivitamin daily and a couple of supplements. It would be more convenient to get the packages. Convenience doesn’t always spell cheaper. Most of the vitamin packs come in 30 day supplies. Most multivitamins come in three or four month supplies. So when you multiply the cost of one month’s vitamins, by three or four the convenience is not cost efficient. Plus, there is all of the extra packaging for each day’s dose. Instead another option would be to purchase a pill case and put your pills in that for a vacation or to buy a multi day pill organizer and put all of your vitamins for each day into the container. To make it really convenient there are even special blends for people who take certain medications or who have certain health conditions. Instead of shelling out $15 or so for the “convenient” packages, check with your doctor and see which of those supplements your doctor recom...

Shoplifting
2008-05-06 20:04:00
Be attentive when shopping or going to a bank. There are some places that have very little security as a cost cutting measure but as the economy is in flux more banks and stores are being robbed. Shoplifting is a problem because it makes prices increase for everyone and also then frequently stolen items may be under lock and key. Don’t think it happens. Look around when you go shopping and the items that are locked up are not necessarily the most expensive items, just the most stolen items. When you are in a bank or even using an ATM, it is important to be aware of your surroundings but also be aware of those near you. I went to the bank recently (a real brick and mortar free standing bank) and looked at the bulletin board on my way out. On it there was a warning for customers about a pair of pickpockets in the area who distract a person by sneezing or starting a conversation. When the victim turns around to say “God Bless you,” or makes small talk, the person ahead ...
Early Retirement?
2008-05-05 16:43:00
Even if you are not close to early retirement age but think you may want to retire before 65, plan for it. It is difficult to plan for something 30 or 40 years away but if you are considering retiring before the age of 65 then you may need to save more than you already are. When you retire 10 years earlier, you are cutting down on 10 years of earnings, and compounding interest for any money you may have invested. Planning an early retirement in order to change careers or to take a less stressful lifestyle but still having some income is different than most people’s perception of early retirement. Though retirement does not mean that you are not doing any work or brining in any income. If you retire early but still have income you will not have to pay a penalty for most retirement or annuity plans. The withdrawal age is generally 59 ½. Seriously considering retiring early? Stagger your investments so that you are not penalized for withdrawing money early. The penalty can be as muc...
