You’ve probably heard your parents say this when you were a child. It’s true. By the way, this statement does not conflict with the 80/20 rule, which states that 80 percent of the effort goes into 20 percent of the work. In most cases, though, 80% is acceptible. I always end ...

Someone at work sent me an email about this little girl that has a brain tumor.  Here is an excerpt from the web site her family has set up: On January 7, 2008, our lives were changed forever when our 10 year old daughter Emily was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in her left thalamus. Emily’s brain tumor, a pediatric low grade astrocytoma (PLGA) is the most common type of childhood brain tumor and yet, has historically received little, if any, dedicated funding or research. Consequently, there are few treatment options available, and those that are available are invasive, toxic and mostly ineffective. Emily is determined to change all this and she has set her sights on raising $1 million to help fund PLGA dedicated research by December 31st, 2008. We, her family, have partnered with The Pediatric Low Grade Astrocytoma Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charity (founded in August 2007) to help raise money for dedicated PLGA research with a goal of de...

Above The Fold
2008-05-13 17:58:00
Wikipedia describes the term "Above The Fold " as "a graphic design concept that refers to the location of an important news story or a visually appealing photograph on the upper half of the front page of a newspaper. Most papers are delivered and displayed to customers folded up, meaning that only the top half of the front page is visible. Thus, an item that is 'above the fold' may be one that the editors feel will entice people to buy the paper. Alternatively, it reflects a decision, on the part of the editors, that the article is one of the day's most important. By extension, the space above the fold is also preferred by advertisers, since it is the most prominent and visible even when the newspaper is on stands." (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Above_the_fo ld) As it relates to the Internet, it means anything placed on the very first screen, such that no scrolling is necessary in order to get to the information. Since different people run ...

Using SEO Keywords In Your Page Title
2008-04-25 19:00:00
To increase your website's ranking with search engines, it is very important to use keywords you have chosen in the title of the page concerned. A title tag is of course not the same as a meta description or keyword tag, but it is still a very important factor to consider in the overall optimization of your web page. Any text you insert in your title tag will be viewed in the title bar of browsers at the time they visit your site. To take advantage of this, plan your keywords and theme carefully. You may also find that some browsers will add their own name as an appendage to your own text. As one of the most important deciding factors in how search engines chose to rank your page is the actual text you have placed in the title tag, spend time and thought over your choice of words. The major web spiders will normally use the text of your title tag as the text that is used for the title given to your site in the listings. This text will act in much the same way as a newspaper...

Did you ever think of SEO as a social activity?  Typically, it's people posting to social networking sites, posting to blogs, submitting to directories, and tweaking away at the site code.  It turns out that SEO is becoming a social activity.  Aaron Wall put out a video on this very subject.  I highly recommend it.  There is a lot of good information there.

Driving Traffic Using ANY Subject
2008-04-22 07:56:00
Any subject can be used to drive traffic.  In the midwest, we recently had an earthquake.  In California, that may be a daily occurance, but in the midwest, it rarely happens, so it's big news.  All you have to do is connect the dots for the reader. I just wrote a post on my SpendingLess101.com blog about the midwest earthquake.  You are probably wondering how an earthquake could be related to spending less money.  When attempting to tie subjects together, you have to open your mind; thing broadly.  You may even need to ask some friends to give you some ideas. As I said in the title, any subject can be used to drive traffic (and, anything can be tied to anything else).  Here are some examples of tying two seemingly-unrelated subjects together: Pizza / Bubbles:  Although the .com bubble has burst, a lot of pizza companies are finding additional business through online orders.
