Buck Owens and Don Rich - Act Naturally (1966)
2007-11-29 05:12:00
Here's a video of Buck Owens and Don Rich in a 1966 TV show performing their theme song, Buckaroo and segueing into their hit, Act Naturally. They essentially created the 'Bakersfield Sound', the sound of natural country music with a hint of a rock-n-roll rootsy feel that flew in the face of the smooth, overproduced, 'Nashville' country sound.

Exercise Your Brain on Happy Neuron
2007-11-29 04:06:00
A fellow computer programmer I used to work with emailed me about this site a few days ago, Happy Neuron. He knew how much I enjoy brain teaser puzzles and the like. I thought I'd check it out and see what it was all about. At first glance it looks like yet another Flash games site, one geared toward brain teaser type games. Plus, it isn't free. So what do you get for your money vs. those 100's of free sites?

Is Blogging Becoming Obsolete?
2007-11-26 18:12:00
This is a question that's actually been around for a while now. In researching this article I found articles from as early as 2004 saying that blogging was going to decline in importance. In 2006, Technorati reported that overall daily blog postings fell. Some said that blogging was a passing fad and was at the peak of its popularity. However, we still see new blogs appearing everyday and new bloggers becoming popular, here at the end of 2007. So, what's the real deal? What should you look at and not look at to determine the health of blogosphere? And where is it headed?

Business Opportunity? Software Licensing Consultant
2007-11-26 03:29:00
The BSA, Business Software Alliance, is on the prowl for small businesses who're violating licensing requirements for their software. Often this happens because a company hasn't properly licensed all of the software they're using or haven't kept up with their licensing correctly. Such violations, intentional or not, can result in a substantial fee to settle the case. Smaller companies that can't afford an inhouse IT department are particularly vulnerable. This crack down may be creating a business opportunity for persons skilled in network administration and licensing issues.

Is Google Evil?
2007-11-21 18:26:00
Courtney Tuttle wrote this article, RealRank? Doesn?t Solve Anything For Bloggers, discussing the recent wholesale PageRank slaughter of PayPerPost using blogs and IZEA's attempt at creating an alternative ranking system. Of course, the conversation turns to Google 's practices and are they potentially illegal under US and EU monopoly laws. Court and Vic see it as them simply protecting their interest in maintaining an accurate measure for search while others, including myself, see it as an anti-competitive practice in the field of online advertising. So, instead of typing out a post sized comment on Court's blog I wrote my response here.

BlogRush Still Sucks - Mid November Update
2007-11-19 02:58:00
Yes, Blog Rush still sucks. This is no news to small time bloggers who're still in the program or who were kicked out without a good reason. They know that they get extremely low conversion rates for the widget and, if they take the time to look, they'll find that they're primarily advertising for big blogs or someone else's affiliate offers for Forex eBooks or tampons. Big time bloggers like seem to be shocked by the overwhelming negative reaction by their readers.

New Theme Active
2007-11-17 17:54:00
Today I've rolled out a new, magazine look, theme closely based on the Visionary theme by Justin Tadlock. I thought the theme was quite good "out of the box" but I decided to modify it some to fit what I wanted to do here on OpTempo. I've also made some changes to the advertising and widgets being used here.

Standard Oil and Google
2007-11-15 18:20:00
