thinking of the loooobby.

the days are passing by quickly. in another 4 days I'll be BACK at the lobby. ahhhhhh. Oooohhhhhh.another typical day for this lounge lizard. around noon time, I went to the mall to hang out. ate at mcdonalds. then, checked out the new movie, d-wars. afterwards, went back to the hotel to take a nap. along the way, I bumped into howling howie and had a chat with him. he introduced me to a couple of new guys from australia. let's all welcome mad max and the outlander.received a text from barnaby. so, I need to make a trip back to the apartment sometime tonight to do some chores. I watched this special program on cnbc where people around the world debated the economic situation in the world. and came away with some serious disbelief in the mindset of some of these "experts".the following is my opinion on the subject...first, we get the argument that the usa should not indulge in protectionism. ..yet the "economic experts" continue to ignore the fact that MOST countries in the world DO indulge in protectionistic practices. does it make sense for the usa to NOT protect inself when everyone else does?the reason why china has a trade surplus in excess of a trillion dollars+ with us is not because we cannot compete with them. the reason is because we allow china to sell everything and anything in the usa. yet they do not allow us the same consideration in their country. second, allowing uncontrolled free trade is not logical because we cannot enforce rules against other countries. fair trade is the key to the success of free trade. but what we have in the ...

before I talk about todays agenda, let me just pass this bit of info to one of the lounge lizards... this is for chicago joe. hey, bro. the engineer wanted me to let you know that the girls at the honey ko bar still remember you. so, I guess that means your life was NOT a total waste. carry on.anyway, with that out of the way....todays agenda includes a trip to the philippine immigration office in the city of dau. for those rookies out there whom are not familiar with the process... upon entering the PI, if you have not already processed a visa, you will receive upon entry a free 21 day transit visa. this visa allows you to hangout in the PI for 21 days, and then you have to leave. if you want to extend your stay in the PI, you would have to do what I am going to do later this morning. go to a philippine immigration somewhere in the country and pay some money for an extension. 2020 pesos for another 45 days.afterwards, I think I'll go and treat myself to the breakfast buff...

while in my beauty sleep, I received yet another lounge lizard visitor from the loooobby. enter the engineer. he's in town for a week. staying in harry the horses stable. the engineer wants me to check out the place. so, tomorrow we are meeting up at noon to do just that.I have always been a loyal reader of harry's website - www.harrythehorse.com. so, to actually see his abode after all these years of reading his column. well, it will be an interesting experience to say the least.I must have been more tired than I thought because I slept at least 4 hours. first thing on the agenda tonight is - move my belongings from the apartment to the america hotel. then, who knows what... a small snack at the corner jollibees? or maybe go bar hop a bit.like barnaby, I'm not exactly a barfly. but you have to do something to pass the time away. oogling girls is not so bad. it's definitely better than pushing up roses. ..if you know what I mean.I wonder how john wayne is doing no...

today started out interesting enough. went to the local vfw and watched the superbowl there. saw steven c.khao with his honey ko. ate a hearty american bacon and eggs type of breakfast. the time was about 10am in the morning. after the superbowl, I went and checked into this hotel for my remaining days here in the PI. the air/con in the room was so inviting. ..I found myself falling asleep for a couple of hours as soon I closed the door behind the bellhop. ahhhh. Ooohhhh.around 2pm, I was awoken by a knock at the door. it was howling howie checking to see how I was doing. thank god howling howie had the courtesy to knock. if he had opened the door without a knock, he could have got a glimpse of your's truly in the buff. luck was truly on his side.anyway, after I chatted with howling howie for a minute, I told him I would meet up with him later as I still needed some beauty sleep....and that is where I will end this post, people. back to my siesta.

after getting blasted the last couple of days, my body finally told me to slow down a little. I woke up today with no body aches. but as soon as I finished taking a shower and chomping down on a small meal, I collapsed to a loooong nap. woke up at around 5pm at night.and here I am now sitting in this internet cafe blogging. afterwards, I think I will just take a long stroll around this small town enjoying the nice weather and to ponder on what is to come in the next few days.barnaby told me that he has also rescheduled his return date to thailand. leaving february 16. the bar scene is not our cup of tea anymore. barnaby told me that the superbowl football game will be shown at a couple of sports bars here in the PI. so, I may go watch that. we'll see... something to pass the time away.my mind is already looking beyond the PI now. trying to plan my upcoming trip to mainland china. something to look forward to.I think I'll take that stroll now. good night everybody.

today was pretty much john wayne day. I spent all day just hanging out with JW. we ate lunch and dinner together. hung out at the mall together. hung out at the bars together. this is JW's last night in AC. he will be going back to manila tomorrow.I've decided to move back to a hotel for my last remaining days in AC. not having an air/con in my room really makes it uncomfortable for me - to say the least. I haven't told barnaby this yet. but I don't think he will mind. he will have the apartment to himself for a couple of weeks. hehehe. I'm sure he will put the place to good use.I have mixed feelings about the philippines. there are so many pluses going for the place. but my heart is not here. what more can I say? until things change. the PI will be one of those places that I will venture out to now and then when I need a break from thailand.tomorrow, I am thinking of going to the clarkton for their breakfast buffet. and then, just go back to my routine of cru...

well, it was another day hanging out for this lounge lizard. went over to the SM megamall. then, went out and hung out with the guys. altogether, we must have hit some 6 bars. at least 1 beer in each place. that's a record for me. was I plastered, you ask? maybe for a minute. but right now, I feel pretty good. no aches or pains. no dizziness. just a little buzz. everybody has gone home already. and after this post, I will be making the same journey back to my abode for some much needed rest too.saw some really beautiful girls. met a new lounge lizard. spent more money than I normally do. but hey. I don't do this everyday. so, it's no biggy.that's it for now, everybody.good night. sweet dreams.

a long time ago in another life, I worked at this place called blue shield. one of my fellow co-workers was this guy whom I worked together with for about 9 years. well, get this, he now lives in the PI and is married to the girl of his dreams.the last time we worked together at blue shield was way back in 1989. I had the opportunity to hang out with mr. blue shield last night. we chatted up a storm. remembering old names, and old friends. good times.john wayne, howling howie, and barnaby are all out and about in commando mode.yours truly is sort of out of commission with a backache. it'll be some ben-gay and some sleep for me tonight, folks.wishing everybody happy memories. get them while you can, people.

you ever get the feeling that time is going so fast, you can't keep up? these past few days, I have been running around so much, I am getting dizzy. what happened yesterday, you ask? I don't know. or rather, I don't remember. I think I need to slow down a little. let's see... 2 days in manila followed by a few days in the outback. in between it was the bus rides, and the exploring. I just finished seeing this movie called cloverfield. and talk about getting dizzy. would you believe it if I told you that john wayne sent me a text message this morning? it's true. there I was with barnaby eating lunch at the ville when all of a sudden, I receive a text message from john wayne. it appears he has been somewhat busy and therefore was not able to respond to emails. oh well, all that matters is that he is still kicking.I got my printout for the e-ticket confirming my departure date of february 11 from the travel agency. afterwards, I went to do my internet routine.last night was a fairly good night for hanging out. meet up with barnaby, steven c.khao, and howling howie. did the rounds, and then, went home to sleep.I am still tired from last night. so, I am thinking of getting a snack at the nearby jollibee and then going back to the apartment for a long nap.life is good.

today started out pretty good. woke up early, and went to the vfw for lunch. met up with steven c.khao. and did our usual hour chat. afterwards went to the clarkton for a haircut. then, proceeded to this one gogo bar to oogle the girls there. later, went to the travel agency to see if they were able to reschedule my return flight back to bangkok. bingo!!!! returning to the land of smiles on february 11. not quite a month in the PI. the philippines is nice, but it is not my home.after getting the news about my departure date, I went back to the apartment for a power nap.later, it was the ville for dinner, and then, a scramble around the night scene for a little of this and that. it's about 10pm at night here right now, and I am about ready to go back to the apartment to sleep some.another 2+ weeks, and it will be back to the loooobby, and the parking lot. just looked at the stock market in the states. first time in a while since I arrived in the PI. looks like the financial world is coming to an end. thank god I only had like 15% of my savings in the market. down a little. but not enough to make me cry.my buddy, da brain, is in bargain hunting mode. personally, I don't know if I want to go bargain hunting. the stock market scares me big time. oh well, as long as I have a roof over my head, and a plate of food in front of me, I'm pretty content.otherwise, I think I will go looking for some politicians to shoot.all this globalization is starting to come back at us like I expected. what good are bigger markets if the other guy doesn't allow us to sell in it, right? maybe the politicians will start getting it in their head that - they are suppose to be representing america and americans.nuff said.

for a change of pace, went to the clarkton to eat the buffet there. not bad. nice surroundings. ate some chicken and pork adobo, some fruits, juices, etc. bumped into howling howie. he joined barnaby and I for the buffet.afterwards, I went home for a nap. then, went to see a movie at the mall. not sure what to do now. maybe go home for a bit. see how barnaby is doing with his friend.still haven't heard from john wayne. for those of you who don't know. JW is MIA. these past few days have been somewhat tiring for me. I find myself wanting to return to thailand already. I'm just not interested in the scene anymore. call it old age, or my entering monk hood, whatever. ..I have this urge to return to my old routine of doing nothing in the day time, and hanging out in the loooobby at night.it's been about a week now since I arrived into the PI.tonight was somewhat interesting in that skyman, and flyboy are both here too. just arrived. we hung out a little but I quickly got smoked out at this one club. and decided to call it a night. barnaby seems full of energy. but I was one tired dude. even looking at the pretty girls hardly got a smile out of me. I left barnaby to do my internet thing. after this, a midnight snack and then to sleep.tomorrow, I think I will rebook my flight back to thailand and return in about 2 weeks if even that.I am considering staying one day in manila to check on the status of john wayne as he might be missin...

well, the day started out pretty busy. running around here and there. bad part of the day was - barnaby got somewhat sick. good part is - hooked up with samby who informed me that flyboy is coming into town in a couple of days. another good part is that barnaby and I found an apartment for a month. 15k pesos for a 2 bedroom furnished with cable tv, and air/con. that's 7.5k pesos a month for each of us. the place is not exactly fancy. but at least we found a place to stay.the place won't be ready for occupancy until monday. so that means I have to find a hotel room for 2 nights. ugh! it's about 7pm right now, and I have no place to stay yet. pretty much playing it hour by hour right now. tiring to say the least. my guess is I won't be partying too much tonight. find a place then just rest.earlier in the night, bumped into burt reynolds. he treated barnaby and I to dinner. what a guy.that's it for now. got to go search for a hotel room now.

the day started out with my checking out from one hotel, and looking for another. the place didn't seemed packed with tourists. so, not sure why all the hotels are saying they are booked. went over to the vfw to have breakfast with barnaby and steven c.khao.steven offers me his place to stay. so, I went out there to check out the place. after a looksee, I decided to pass on the place. steven was nice enough to offer the place for me to stay, but it was just too far out and too much of a trial to entice me.got a place not exactly what I wanted, but at least have a place to stay for a day.I then went looking for my old co-worker at this one place in the city. turns out he hasn't reported in to this haunt of his for 3 weeks. ..oops! doesn't sound good. at 68, he should be letting everybody know where he is at. left my email with the folks there just in case he shows up alive.from there went home to take a nap. after the nap, went to the ville to hang out some. tired out ...

day 2 in the PI

woke up this morning somewhat energized. the air was cleaner than in bangkok. you can feel the difference immediately. met up with barnarby, and went over to the vfw for some breakfast. hoped to meet up with steven c.khao. and sure enough he appears out of the blue. and we were able to get the latest scoop on his life. turns out the offer is still on if I want to stay at steven's house for free. that was sort of a relief. but now with the changes in the "scene" here in the PI, I am not sure I want to stay anymore. so, the verdict is still not out. it will take another day or 2 to figure this out.for dinner, howling howie, barnaby, and I sat down at this pizzeria and chompped down on a large pizza. quenched our thrist with cokes. afterwards, we went scouting around for places to hang out. about an hour into the scene, I found myself alone thinking to myself... "am I going to be twiddling my thumbs all night?"yes, it appears so. haven't experienced any magic with anyone...

well people. we made it safe and sound into the PI.while at the bangkok airport, barnaby and I were lucky to bump into burt reynolds. he was making the trip over to the PI too. and get this, he has a chaffeur. so, getting around was easy in manila.I never did get john wayne's phone number. so, I was not able to contact him when we arrived in manila. so, we just left when we arrived. too bad. I was really hoping to get in touch with JW.when we got to the ville, we were able to get established fairly easy. barnaby had some problems with his credit cards initially. but we solved that problem soon enough.first day was getting the basics setup. money, place, and food. today, we are going to try to contact steven c.khao. last night, we met howling howie. but he was in commando mode. and we couldn't really keep up with him until we established the "basics".somewhat rested up now. but something came up with the "scene". so, barnaby and I are not sure if we will stay on here...

earlier today, I met up with db cooper and thor at mbk. we had lunch in the food court there. did some shooting the breeze. and then, parted afterwards to pursue different paths in life. when I got home, I did my final walkthrough of all my stuff. gee, I hope it fits in the 20 kg limit.anyway, took a little power nap. and here I am. posting this last message on my blog before I leave for the airport.the time is exactly 7:52pm.take care sarge. see you in 8 months. to da brain, I'll catch you in march.I'm gone!!!

last night, went to the lobby. had a good time. met a new guy. let's welcome general macarthur into the world of the lounge lizards people. nice guy. he told me and the sarge that he has been hanging out in the lobby since the 60's.roll call - captain kirk, db cooper, craig constantine, the sarge, general macarthur, general patton, the guru, zorba the greek, timberwolf, handsome chris, boris.didn't stay out too late. was tired by 1:30am. got home by 2am. went to sleep early so that I can make it to the hospital early today.as it were, I got about 4 hours of sleep before I left to get my mouth examined by a doctor. since I was there to have a doctor look at me for the possibility of cancer, I decided to get an annual physical exam too.well, as it turns out, I'm not a young pup anymore with a perfect body. have a slight problem with my blood pressure - 148/90 - borderline. my cholesterol count was 404. the lady doctor told me I will be ancient history soon if I didn't...

went to the ranch last night. the talk was centered around the up coming trip to the philippines. another day of simple pleasures. I went over to the pantip plaza mall to buy a 2 gig flash drive. the prices have really plummeted. the kingston 2 gig travelers are going for about 12 dollars now. I saw the 4 gig travelers going for about 20 dollars. my guess is you could probably find them cheaper on ebay. anyway, after a few hours of hanging out at pantip window shopping, I went over to this sizzler to eat the salad bar special. after sizzler, I hung out at the central world mall and checked out all the bikes, and sporting goods. I left the central world mall at around 8pm at night. and went home to rest.I was more tired then I thought. I fell asleep as soon as I got home, and didn't wake up from the impromptu nap until around midnight. too late for the lobby. so, I just watched tv, and worked on my blog. sarge was nice enough to give me some images of lizards. funny guy. so, I put one up on my blog. check it out, sarge. it is up on the right side of the screen.rec...

I spent another day just playing around with my blogs. after I found these 2 websites that were full of information on how to improve my blogs, I went hog wild.imagine being in front of your computer for 12 hours straight. yes, that is what I did today. I spent ALL day reading and playing around with html coding.except for breaks for food, and the toilet, I was having fun blooooogging.egads!!! I'm turning into a blog.as all the lounge lizards know, the first most important thing in life is happy memories. the second most important thing in life is FOOD!! ..guess what is the THIRD most important thing in life?need I say?..I think I'll get some sleep now. 12 hours of blogging is enough for one day already.
