Find Unclaimed Money - Really!
2008-04-05 16:37:00
Luckily for me, in some ways (I guess) being skeptical has saved me a lot of time, energy, and probably grief.Add to that the current state of advertising in the world as well as internet advertising and Spam, I get the tiniest bit peeved at someone trying to sell me the same tired scam over and over (I'm laughing - but it's true). With that said, I hit http://www.missingmoney.com this morning after it came up on one of my Google alerts and would you believe - it's for real!  AND I even found some unclaimed money of my own.I printed out the claim form and I'll be sending it off to the state of Florida later this morning.Who knew? Now - it's not like I'm going to be retiring now, but hey!  What the heck?  (lol - laugh out loud)It's the only website endorsed by the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators and is run in cooperation with the States.Best part of it?  It's absolutely and totally FREE!  Ye...

Seven Stages of Money Maturity
2008-04-01 20:52:00
One of my earliest experiences of the disjointed relationship between money and soul was on Sundays at the time of offering in the local Presbyterian church I attended as a child. To me, the rustling of fellow churchgoers and the soft fall of dollars did not sound like the whisper of God. The clink of purses opening and of coins and keys did not sound like God's music, nor did feet shuffling in the pews and aisles sound like the footsteps of God.  In fact, I recall my terror mounting as those footsteps came closer. This was my moment of judgment and I was found wanting. I remember three specific occasions: On one I had nothing in my pocket to give and my parents gave me nothing from theirs. In shame, my face felt hot and red as I passed the basket to my younger brother who also had nothing to give. Another time, my mother snuck a coin to me from her purse. But whose coin was this? Who was really giving? I felt unseen and unrecognized. On another occasion, I had a...

Money Coaching
2008-04-01 20:38:00
George kinder has a set of three questions famous for their ability to focus you on what really matters about money. Question Number 1 Imagine that you have enough money to take care of your needs, now and in the future.  How would you live your life?  Would you change anything? Questions Number 2 Imagine that your doctors says you have only five to 10 years to live.  You don't feel sick, but you'll never know when death will come.  What will you do?  Will you change your life?  How? Question Number 3 Now imagine that your doctor says you have only one day left to live.  Ask yourself:  What did I miss?  What did I not get to be or do?

Money Mastery
2008-03-28 19:00:00
Money can be your servant or it can be your master. The choice is yours to make. If you want to be the master in this relationship, you must learn to assert your control. This process is simple. It may not, however, be easy. You are habituated to certain beliefs and behaviors towards money. The mass mindset of your culture, including the pervasive advice of advertisers, banks and advisors, is extremely persuasive in convincing you that you are a servant to money and its mysterious and magical attributes. Nevertheless, if you have the discipline to enact these simple control mechanisms, you will become the master in your relationship with money and, in so doing, will begin to create the financial success you desire. 1. Spend less than you earn. This is so obvious that it should not even need to be said. However, we live in a society that is predicated to debt financing. If you can't pay ...

6 Affordable Strategies to Build a Cash Cow
2008-03-25 19:58:00
Small businesses must be extra imaginative with their marketing efforts in order to attract customers and get them to open their wallets. Even more challenging is that most entrepreneurs have shallow pockets and shoppers are being more selective as a result of the sluggish economy and volatile stock market. The following are six proven low-cost marketing ideas that help small businesses increase sales and generate referrals, ultimately helping you build your cash cow, while spending very little. Get Out and Walk Next time you walk down a street with high foot-traffic, pay attention to storefront windows underutilized. Approach the store owner and offer to pay a small fee to advertise your business in their window. Imagine, you pay $50 per month for a location that costs someone else $2500 a month in rent. This idea also works in reverse. If you’re the store owner with great window visibility, approach other entrepreneurs and offer them an affordable adver...

Learning Styles and Their Importance in the Classroom
2008-03-23 15:43:00
One's learning style describes how one gathers and processes information. Learners can be broken into three major classes according to their learning styles:    a.. Visual learners learn through visual means such as pictures drawn on the board, slide shows and reading. Since about 65 percent of all learners fall into this category, it is likely that you are a visual learner, and it is also likely that your normal teaching style is visual. Visual learners often discount or ignore the spoken word, so lectures, even those that are not dull, are not as effective for these people.    b.. Auditory learners learn through listening and through talking. About 30 percent of learners fall into this category. So, if you are not a visual learner, it is likely that you are an auditory learner. You may learn well from listening to a lecture presented by an engaging instructor. Charts, graphs and illustrations, on the other hand, may add little to your learning. &nbs...

Austan Goolsbee - Economic Advisor for Obama
2008-02-29 18:09:00
It's a private laugh between the economist and the politician: Each is a skinny kid with a funny name. But Austan Goolsbee is no joke. As Barack Obama 's top economic adviser, the 38-year-old University of Chicago economist is getting a lot of attention.  The two met when Obama was running for the U.S. Senate in 2004. Though Goolsbee is often dubbed a centrist, he's better understood as a proponent of behavioral microeconomics, which incorporates psychological findings into analyses of economic decisionmaking. Goolsbee has written about why watching TV isn't bad for kids and why the rich don't give more to charity. Steve Levitt, of Freakonomics fame, is both a University of Chicago colleague and an intellectual partner. The behavioral-microeconomics approach influences the policies that Obama has expounded. Consider his position on retirement savings, one of the few areas in which he and Hillary Clinton differ: Clinton has proposed new 401(k)-style savings veh...

Economists Quotes
2008-02-28 20:52:00
An economist is a man who knows a hundred ways of making love but doesn’t know any women. Art Buchwald Quotes If the market does indeed embody the sum of all human wishes, then the secret ones are just as important as the ones that are openly displayed. Eric Schlosser Quotes If all the economists in the world were laid end to end, they wouldn’t reach any conclusion. George Bernard Shaw Quotes There is certainly no absolute standard of beauty. That precisely is what makes its pursuit so interesting. John Kenneth Galbraith Quotes The ideas of economists and political philosophers, both when they are right and when they are wrong, are more powerful than is commonly understood. Indeed the world is ruled by little else. Practical men, who believe themselves to be quite exempt from any intellectual influence, are usually the slaves of some defunct economist. John Maynard Keynes Quotes If economists could manage to get themselves thought of as hum...
