Florida Abandoning Electronic Voting
2008-03-01 13:08:00 Florida officials will soon begin junking the controversial ATM-style touch-screen voting machines in favor of paper ballots that are read by an optical scanner. Nearly 30,000 of the voting machines will be disposed of before the election.Six counties still owe nearly $33 million for the machines, but it is hoped that an attempt to sell them back to an electronic voting machine manufacturer will help make up those costs. The initiative is from Gov. Charlie Crist. The touch-screen machines contributed to confusion during the 2000 presidential election. Some counties will still use them for local elections in March, and a few will be kept for use by disabled voters. Source: www.miamiherald.com More About: Electronic , Florida , Voting
