Where the heck was this Friday??!!
2007-12-03 14:03:00
TTGL put this out at 3:30am today. Among other things, they mention that the RS will be done as a last resort, and that it was only voted on just in case they needed it to uplist to the NASDAQ. This was exactly what I needed to see Friday ! See link to PR below:Titan Global Holdings Integrates Recent Acquisitions to Strengthen Record Revenue and Earnings Guidance for Fiscal 2008
Portfolio Wrap-up For the Week Ending 11/30/07
2007-12-02 17:29:00
Below is the chart for this week. Since it shows up small, you can just click on the image, and it will be large enough to view. The portfolio continued higher again this week, which makes it back to back gains, however, as with client accounts, it wasn't by much. The TTGL debacle also erased most of my gains from other stocks this week. The portfolio was up almost 1%, which brings the total YTD gain up to +130.5% (it is nice to see the 130's again though). As I mentioned above, gains in DEIX, SOYO, & ASII were mostly erased by the drop in TTGL this week. Had it not been for the drop in that stock, my portfolio would have been up almost 15% instead! What a difference.Below is the current SI portfolio:The rows in white represent stocks that were sold during the week. The "Day Gain/Loss" columns represent what happened yesterday. This week was somewhat of a mixed bag for me, because it was like the tale of two portfolio's. The portion of my portfolio that was TTGL, had already been sl...

Clients Accounts Finish Just Above Breakeven
2007-12-01 17:51:00
This is the second week in a row that client accounts were about breakeven, however, at least this time it was on the plus side of that. That breaks a four week losing streak, albeit barely. Client accounts were up only 0.3% for the week. That brings the YTD loss to -25%.Before yesterday, this week was heading for nice gains for both clients and I. Of course yesterday, TTGL happened. That one stock was able to erase gains in a number of good trades/stocks this week. Here are some of the winners from this past week:DEIX (this was a really good one), SOYO, ASII, IRSN (still have this one), and the calls written on RIGL (a lot of cash brought in with that move). There were a couple of others that were up, but not by much. There were also a few stocks that went down, but none had the impact that TTGL had. If you recall, that was the largest holding in the SI portfolio's at the start of this week. This is now the second week in a row that the largest holding has been down enough to erase ...

What a Day
2007-11-30 23:08:00
This was a tough day for me investing wise. As you know, TTGL announced a reverse split last night. Today when they PR'd their 10K, they did not address it all. If you recall, I was hoping they would mention that the RS was being done to be able to uplist to the NASDAQ. I knew with that omission, the stock would have a tough time today, which in turn would make things rough on me (myself, and three other clients owned that stock). The stock began to tank early on, and at first I thought it might hold $1.50, and then rebound. When that didn't happen, I started putting in the sell orders. Unfortunately, the $1.40's were not holding up. At the same time this was going on, the NASDAQ was having a good day, as expected (see post below this one). So I started looking for other options while I dealt with TTGL. The first option I saw was ERFW. It was selling at about what TTGL was now ($1.39), and the chart looked decent. $1.39 was the 20 day EMA, and the RSI was over 50. Addi...
Market Wrap - Plus some Good News/Bad News
2007-11-30 01:14:00
Well, it looks like the market surprised me a little, and moved higher today. It was up 5 points to 2668. Despite such a small increase, the move really helped the technicals out a lot. The RSI is now above 50, and the MACD made the bullish crossover. If the market can move positively again tomorrow, we may see a little short term run. I would say to 2720 at least. This is actually good timing for me, as clients may have a decent amount of cash tomorrow. Which brings me to the bad news.TTGL filed their 10K today. While the earnings looked horrible, that wasn't the problem (they were not expected to show anything great until the Appco acquisition was accounted for). The problem was this:http://xml.10kwizard.com/filing_raw. php?repo=tenk&ipage=5307131If you read the filing you will see that TTGL will be doing a reverse split in a range of 1-for 1.5 to 1-for-3. This is not the best news. However, I think the reason behind the split is to get a NASDAQ listing. The company has applied fo...

Trade/Market Update - Nov 28
2007-11-29 01:15:00
The NASDAQ had it's second up day in a row, with today being better than yesterday. It closed up a whopping 82 points to finish at 2663. The reason for the jump was that a Federal Reserve official hinted that the central bank may lower interest rates again. In my opinion, the reason the market has done so poorly over the last month, is that investors felt we would not be getting a rate cut at the next meeting. So this may be the catalyst for a turn around.Technically speaking, the NASDAQ is on the cusp right now. It closed above the 20 day EMA (2651), but is still below the 50 DMA (2720) and resistance at 2700. Additionally, the RSI is just below 50, and the MACD is just below the center line. This could be where the market reverses back down. If so, we may see the recent downward trend continue into December. On the other hand, if the NASDAQ breaks through the 50 DMA, the RSI goes over 50, and most importantly the MACD makes the bullish crossover, we may start a new uptrend. We'l...

Like I did Friday, I will first just list the transactions, then post my reasoning behind them.Trade s for Clients:Sold client out of ISBL at .0044 for a large loss (too bad that was before the Wal-Mart news).Sold client out of DEIX at $1.37 for a large gain.Bought shares for clients in SOYO at mostly $1.10.Bought shares for clients in SCLD at an average of just below $1.09.Trades for Myself:Sold 7,900 shares of DEIX at $1.53 for a very large profit.Bought 6,000 shares of DEIX at $1.76.Sold 6,000 shares of DEIX at $1.85 for a small profit.Bought 30,000 more shares of ASII at .02.Bought 10,500 shares of SOYO at an average of just below $1.10.I will mainly just go over the two new stocks, SOYO & SCLD. I think the former really has a chance to make a move like DEIX did today. First off, fundamentally SOYO is on target to make over $100 million in revenues this year. They have already made over $72 million in the first 9 months of this year. In addition to that $72 million plus in revenu...

DEIX - HUGE NEWS OUT
2007-11-27 15:11:00
One of the reasons the stock has been down from around $5, is uncertainty over the merger between XM Satellite and Sirrius Satellite. Sirrius is one of DEIX's biggest customer's. I forgot to mention this in my reasons I gave the other day for the stock being down. Today's release shows that the company was able to extend their agreement with Sirrius from January 2008 to August 31st 2008. Besides containing the same beneficial terms as before, it has been enhanced in DEIX's favor in regards to returns. This had hurt their bottom line in quarter 3. The stock is already up on the news. Portfolio Wrap-up For the Week Ending 11/23/07
2007-11-25 05:21:00
Below is the chart for this week. Since it shows up small, you can just click on the image, and it will be large enough to view. The portfolio finally broke it's 5 week losing streak, and finished the week up 3.1%, which brings the total YTD gain up to +129.6%. So I am almost back in to the 130's again. I would say the main difference between my account and client accounts this week was CNTF. I sold it on Friday, since I never had the opportunity to write calls on it, but had to wait till Monday for clients, due to calls I had written on it for them.I think another reason my account was up, besides selling CNTF the prior week, was that I traded it a little more, and was more aggressive. I bought and sold RTK twice, and bought DEIX when it was on "the edge". This is something I may be doing more of, since I will be dealing with a much smaller portfolio. One last note on the reason for this week's gain. I also owned the best performing stock for clients this week, which was TT...

Close to Breakeven Week for Clients
2007-11-24 17:11:00
While being close to breakeven is certainly better than a large loss, the fact remains that this is the fourth week in a row that the accounts have been down, and at an all time low. So I am not pleased with the performance. The NASDAQ fell 1.5% this week, while clients lost about 1%. The YTD loss is now at -25.3%.Before calculating the numbers I was thinking client accounts had actually gained this week, so when it came out negative I took a closer look to see what was the cause. In the end the answer was pretty simple. CNTF, which was the largest holding in client accounts to start the week, was down enough on Monday when I sold it, that it erased any other gains from the rest of the week. This included nice gains from the second largest holding TTGL. Other gainers for the week were APIO & RTK. The former is only a gainer because I sold most of one client out at .27. When you average yesterday's closing price with that sale, you get a gain. On the losing side, FLIP & AU...

It's slow here today at work, so I thought I would post these now.First I will just list the transactions, then I will post my reasoning behind them.Trade s for Clients:Bought shares of DEIX at $1.10.Bought shares of ASII at .019.Trades for Myself:Sold 4,000 shares of RTK at $2.17 for a small profit.Bought 7900 shares of DEIX at $1.06.Bought 20,000 shares of ASII for .02.First let's go over DEIX, and my sale of RTK. While I still expect a nice bump up from RTK due to the potential buyout at $2.70, the amount of shares I had was bugging me. Therefore, I began searching for stocks that were cheaper, but had great potential. That stock was DEIX. After yesterday's close of $1.06, the stock's MACD had just made the bullish crossover. Additionally, the stock has been oversold for about 2 months now. Looking at the price pattern, it seemed that it was finally bottoming. A hold of $1.05 was key for today, as well as a non-negative close. I took a chance with my funds that that would be t...

Trade/Market Update - Nov 21
2007-11-21 23:53:00
As I mentioned last night, the chart on the NASDAQ looked horrible, and today it certainly performed that way. I thought yesterday's close above the 200 DMA (2584) might cause a rebound today, but obviously the overall technicals controlled the situation. The NASDAQ closed down 35 points to 2562 today. For Friday (the market is closed tomorrow), which is a half day, I could really see anything happening. Technically speaking, we should see more downside, but a lot of times these half day sessions after a holiday are quite volatile. The low volume can create thin bids, and wide spreads on stocks, which usually leads to large price fluctuations. It should be interesting. Definitely be careful trading. You could buy a stock at a $1.10, only to see it at a $1.00 a few minutes later.TRADE UPDATESI made no trades today.Despite the poor day on Wall Street, none of the stocks in the SI portfolio's were down today, which is the way I am trying to work things (i.e., buying non-market sensiti...

Trade/Market Update - Nov 20
2007-11-21 01:44:00
Well, the NASDAQ did break below it's 200 DMA (2584) today, and did initially fall pretty sharply down to 2550, however, it then rebounded. The NASDAQ ended up finishing over it's 200 DMA, as it closed up about 3 1/2 points to 2597. The chart looks horrible now, but this rebound at the end may spur some buying tomorrow morning. With it being the day before Thanksgiving, that may be enough to keep it positive for the remainder of the day (many traders take off early on the day before Thanksgiving).Until the market begins to look better technically, I am going to continue with the plan I laid out last night (see post two below this one).TRADE UPDATESFor Clients:Sold all clients out of FLIP at around .018 to .019. For most it was at a small loss. The company did PR their earnings this morning as I had hoped, and despite what thought were decent earnings, the market did not have any reaction. Since, the reason I bought in was for this event, their was no reason to stay in any longer. ...

I am getting ready to head home, but I just caught this, and thought it was important to share:Rentech Issues Statement Regarding Sherwood Investments Overseas LimitedThe key points are that the company had no forewarning of the letter (meaning there was no collaboration between the two parties beforehand), and two, that they will respond as they deem appropriate. While I would have liked an acceptance of the offer by the board, or a statement that other suitors have been contacted, etc, etc, at least they are saying we will hear something in this regard soon. I will call IR on my way home from the car.UPDATE: IR has not returned my call as of yet.

Trade/Market Update - Nov 19
2007-11-20 01:58:00
I was pretty much right on with my prediction for how the market would perform today. Last Friday I said:Looking at the chart though, I think it will head lower Monday. Most likely to the 200 DMA (~2582).Today's low was right on the 200 DMA (now 2583), and the market did finish lower (-44 to 2593). The key for tomorrow is holding that 200 DMA. This is the second time it has tested it in the last week or so, and held. If it falls much below that tomorrow, I think it is really going to tank. For all my accuracy in predicting the how the market will perform, I have not been able to use it to my advantage trading wise. Everything seems to be affected, whether it's market sensitive or not. I plan on liquidating most client positions, and my own, by weeks end, and then I will be researching the best defensive stocks I can find. Basically, stocks that have done well, and will do well in a bear market. Included in this group will be small penny stocks, as they usually go their own way for ...

Portfolio Wrap-up For the Week Ending 11/16/07
2007-11-18 03:03:00
Below is the chart for this week. Since it shows up small, you can just click on the image, and it will be large enough to view. The portfolio was down for the 5th week in a row, as it lost 5% this week, bringing the total YTD gain down to +126.5%. For the first time during this losing streak, AIS was not the culprit. The big losers for me this week, were the same ones that clients had (CNTF & TTGL).Ironically, my best day this week was Friday again.Below is the current SI portfolio:The rows in white represent stocks that were sold during the week. The "Day Gain/Loss" columns represent what happened yesterday. One of the stocks that performed the best for me percentage wise, was EWDI. This stock gained 67% last week, however, I only made $80 on it. That's because I only invested $120. As you can see in the chart above, I only paid .0003/share, so the stock is extremely risky. I could have easily lost 67% on it, so that is why I did not put much money into to begin with. The $120 plus...

Client Accounts Down Again This Week
2007-11-17 18:22:00
It has certainly been a bad month. On October 12th, client accounts were sitting at their best levels, since then it has been all down hill. The NASDAQ has lost 200 points since that time. So despite my best effort to mix in non-market sensitive stocks, or go to all non-market sensitive stocks, I have not been able to avoid being pulled down with the market. This weeks losses totaled 3.4%, which brings the total YTD loss to -24.2%. Not very good. The main reason for the drop is pretty simple. The two largest holdings in client accounts performed the worst (CNTF & TTGL). The former being the most responsible, losing 81 cents this week. While I cannot pick my day of the week for the market to close, had I been able to choose Tuesday, you would have seen a much different post today. TTGL was at $1.90 (off .05 for the week), and CNTF was over $7.50 (up .36 for the week). Client s would have actually gained about 6% for the week, instead of losing 3.4. That's quite a difference...

Trade/Market Update
2007-11-17 00:02:00
The NASDAQ did test 2600 today, as I expected, and I guess we could say that hitting as low as 2597 still counts as holding it. The reason I say that, is that it then rallied to finish up 19 to 2637.Looking at the chart though, I think it will head lower Monday. Most likely to the 200 DMA (~2582). That needs to hold, or I think we are going a lot lower soon. If the market ends up moving higher Monday, look for resistance at 2700. I doubt it would get that high, but maybe that is something to look for on Tuesday, if it does go up Monday. Right now though, I am betting on lower for Monday. As far as trade updates, there were no trades today. Tomorrow I will post the weekly client update, and my own portfolio update. Have a great night!

Averted Disaster - SGN
2007-10-29 21:51:00
Even though I had a number of other stocks that were doing okay today, the 34 cent drop in SGN had the potential to really ruin my day. The stock unexpectedly broke below the 200 DMA at $1.40, and hit support at $1.20. It did this so quickly that I had little chance to sell clients out of it in time. Additionally, with $1.20 holding, we now had a double bottom there, so I was reluctant to sell after that occurred. However, that did not change the fact that clients were down around .30 for most of the day.In the afternoon, after getting an email from another client on the stock, I decided to put him in at $1.29. He was only partially filled, and then the stock took off. Thankfully, after being down as much as .34, it ended up having a decent close, only off 9 from Friday's close, and 5 cents over the 200 DMA. I really like that last part. Now hopefully it can hold $1.40 tomorrow, and eventually surpass the 50 DMA ($1.52) again. After today's action, I am no longer looking for this...

Trade Update - CNTF (Call Written)
2007-10-29 20:04:00
Well, the move I planned here was somewhat foiled. This was the original plan:Buy 13,000 shares of CNTF at $6.75, and sell 130 contracts of the Dec 7.5 call for .85.The net effect of that, was that the client would receive $11,000 for the call, and have the potential to make about $10,000 on the stock. If everything worked out, they would have made $21,000 in 8 weeks. Keep in mind that they could not get that money any sooner than December 21st, but that is still a good profit percentage for that time frame.Unfortunately, CNTF had great news before the bell today, and the stock went up to $7.53 at the open.So here is what I did with that same client in this new situation (I actually made a similar move for another client today too, but for explanation purposes, we'll stick with the same one):I went ahead and bought 12,500 shares at $7.25 (since the price went up, I could not buy 13,000 anymore), and sold 125 contracts of the Nov 7.5 call for just over .60. Notice how I was able ...

Deal or No Deal and Speculative Penny Stock Trades
2007-10-29 00:46:00
What do these two have in common? Well, if you know the game show (Deal or No Deal), you might have an idea already, if not, I'll try to give a quick synopsis of it.In the game show, you have 26 briefcases with different money amounts in them (from .01 to $1 million). 25 are held by models on stage, and the other one you choose for yourself. You cannot see what money amount you have picked until the end of the game. After you have picked your case, you are asked to have 6 cases opened that are up on stage. Once these amounts are opened, they are no longer available. This is the first "round". The second round you open 5 cases, then 4, then 3, etc. After each round, the game show (in the form of a guy called the banker) offers you some money to take instead of what's in your case. The offer is based on a mathematical formula based on how much money is still available in all the cases, and how many cases are left. So if the cases with the large amounts have already been opened, your...

Portfolio Wrap-up For the Week Ending 10/26/07
2007-10-27 17:47:00
Below is the chart for this week. Since it shows up small, you can just click on the image, and it will be large enough to view. While client accounts stabilized this week, the SI portfolio continued to fall. The loss for this week was 7.7%, bringing the YTD gain down to +137.1%. That's almost 18% in two weeks. The main culprits were AIS & IMH (the only two stocks I owned at the start of the week). I would say that another culprit during this losing stretch is having less cash in the portfolio. Normally, I would have jumped into DMTN on Friday for .087 like I did for clients, if I had more cash available. Additionally, as I have said in the past, the smaller portfolio is subject to larger swings in YTD percentage. That should work in my favor though next week, since I feel that AIS is making a comeback, and TTGL should do well here in the short term. We'll see.Below is the current SI portfolio:The rows in white represent stocks that were sold during the week. The "Day Gain/Lo...

Clients Accounts Finish Just Above Breakeven
2007-10-27 01:59:00
After last week's huge 20% loss, I guess I should be happy to be on the plus side this week, no matter how small. This week's gain was only 0.4%, which brings the YTD loss to -7.5%.In the mix this week there was one big winner that was offset by a couple of big losers. The big gainer this week was DMTN, which brought in about $13,000 on it's own. That was primarily offset by IMH and LOCM, which both had bad weeks. Other notable losers were APIO & AIS. Offsetting those was mainly TKAT, the only other notable gainer for the week. So far my re-entry into that one has been a good move.As for the other stocks, they did not have much of an impact either way.Below is the chart of the current holdings in all of the various SI portfolio's (including mine):Looking at the table, things are still somewhat spread out, although LOCM is the largest holding by far. That will change on Monday for two reasons. One, as I said last week, I want to concentrate on investing in stocks under $...
