Market Wrap
2007-09-20 22:34:00
The NASDAQ pulled back as expected today, as it fell 12 points to 2654. Intra-day it dropped to the lower end of my pullback range from last night's email (I gave 16 to 41 points, and the market fell about 18 intra-day). I would look for some more downside tomorrow morning. The key will be whether today's low holds. If so, we may get a rebound in the afternoon. I would keep an eye on that. If today's low is broken though, we may see the upper end of that range I gave for a pullback instead, which would put the NASDAQ around 2625. I am hoping that level will provide support, and be a good time to start buying in again.

Trade Alert - AURC
2007-09-20 20:34:00
Sold client out at .08 for a nice profit. I am one of those skeptics I mentioned to Mark. All of the recent PR's seem good, but they have in the past too. So I only traded this for a quick gain. Maybe it is a mistake, but this seemed like the most prudent route.

Stock Review
2007-09-20 02:18:00
I thought I would do a quick analysis on the stocks in the various SI portfolios:TIDE - This stock slipped a little technically yesterday, and was helped a little by a market maker putting a cap on at .19 (ask size of 999). Once that happened, the stock was guaranteed to close below all of it's major moving averages (the lowest one was the 20 day EMA at .196). The RSI also dropped below 50. However, the MACD was still above the center line. I was impressed with today's action, as the stock saw some decent buying, despite yesterday's bad close. This also inspired the market maker to move the cap up to .195. I was encouraged to see that there was even a buyer at that price while the cap was on. Usually, it fulfills it's intended purpose of discouraging any more buying. After today's close, the MACD is still on the center line, and the RSI is slightly below 50. The stock is still below all three major moving averages, but not by much. Additionally, if the stock were to move back t...

Sometimes TA Will Fail You - ACUR
2007-09-20 01:14:00
Here is a case where my knowledge of the fundamentals should have overridden my technical analysis. From talking with the company, and things I had read, I felt that ACUR was worth about $2. That is why when it fell to around $1.15 to $1.18 I bought shares for clients in the stock. At that time the 200 DMA was at about $1.05. When the stock looked like it would close below that important average (the last major one still standing), I decided to sell. The stock ended up falling below a dollar that day, and closed below the 200 DMA. Additionally, the RSI fell below 30. Usually, if 30 doesn't provide support, then the stock and the RSI fall much farther. So two very bearish indicators technically. The stock did have a nice rebound the next day, and went as high as $1.24 the following day, however, it then dropped back below the 200 DMA, and $1.00 again. The stock seemed to have trouble getting above it's 200 DMA after that. Technically speaking, it looked dead. However, just when you ...

Market Wrap
2007-09-19 22:16:00
The NASDAQ had my hoped for follow through today, as it was up about 15 points to 2666.48. This was 17 points off the high though, so I would expect a pullback tomorrow. Keep in mind the NASDAQ has been up 85 points over the last two days. Hopefully, the pullback is not too bad. Something between 16 to 41 points over the next two days maybe. Then I would like to see a rebound that at least takes us to that 2725 high for the year that I mentioned yesterday. We'll see.

GDVI - 10Q Out
2007-09-19 19:27:00
GDVI filed their 10Q this morning. See below:GLOBAL DIVERSIFIED INDUSTRIES INC Files SEC form 10QSB, Quarterly ReportThis was in the realm of what I was expecting. The company's revenue is back over two million, which is an improvement over last quarter, and a huge improvement over the quarter before that. They were also net income positive again, albeit by $50,000 or so.Other items of note: They said they were going to concentrate on their core business from now on. Apparently, deviating from that hurt them in the past. They also mentioned they were cash flow negative, due to equity compensation to third parties. Additionally, they will have to borrow more. This will probably be a mix of debt and equity. The good thing is that they have a low float of almost 50 Million.
Trade Update - SGN (UPDATED)
2007-09-19 18:16:00
Bought a client shares at $1.36 earlier. The 20 day EMA and 200 DMA are at $1.33. It looks like I was a little early on that purchase, as the stock has hit $1.30. Hopefully, it closes back above $1.33 today.UPDATE: Bought more for another client at $1.32.

Trade Update - CRNT (updated)
2007-02-07 14:19:05
Sold all 2,100 shares at $6.12. I made a profit on this one, but not as much as I had hoped. The stock may still do well, but it's seems to be having trouble making up it's mind about today's earnings. That will most likely continue to affect the technical picture for the next couple of days or so.UPDATE: It looks like I sold this one a little too early. Oh well, can't win them all. I am now in the process of looking at some stock ideas that reader Scott sent me. Also, someone named Michael Wexin emailed me (along with a bunch of others) and said that he thought KKD looked good. It seems interesting at $12.50, but the MACD does not look so hot. Other than that though, the chart looks good on it.

Trade Update II - PXLW
2007-02-07 14:19:05
Bought 10,000 shares at $1.83. This is another one from reader Scott's personal "watch list". This could be a quick trade for me. The stock needs to clear the 20 day EMA (currently $1.95) soon, or I will probably bail. I will give it a couple of days or so.

Kind of a Lackluster Day
2007-02-07 14:19:05
Today's trading did not have much of an impact on the portfolio, as it looks like I finished slightly ahead (+$136). Highlights included selling CRNT a little too soon (I may have missed out on a couple hundred bucks), and buying PXLW at what looks like a good price. That stock had a nice finish, we'll see if it spills over into tomorrow. Lastly, it looks like AIS was unable to carry any momentum forward from Friday, and finished down a couple of pennies. That was not a complete surprise, since the stock has gotten hung up between $1.25 and $1.30 several times before.

Probably a Mistake But.......
2007-02-07 14:19:05
PXLW is trading at $2.66 in pre-market!! That's up .78, which would be +$7,800 to me. The spread is $1.85 x $2.25, and the trade was only for 100 shares, so there is nothing to get excited about. It would be nice to see it open up there though. If you were wondering, there is no news out for them this morning. On a similar note, AIS, is also trading up in pre-market. It's at $1.30 (+.05) on 500 shares. I am also not too excited about that activity as well. We'll see if it means anything when the market opens.

Trade Update - PXLW
2007-02-07 14:19:05
Sold all 10,000 at $2.01. I think the stock could still go higher, but this was too good and too quick of a gain to pass up (almost two grand).

Some Musings (or maybe more apltly put, a little rant)
2007-02-07 14:19:05
Last night's request by Dr. Michael Roberts of The Stock Market Barometer (see comment on last post), reminded me about some things I had been meaning to post about concerning the stock blog community.Basically, this has to do with link exchanges between stock blogs. In the beginning I wanted to increase my traffic to my site, as all bloggers usually do, and one way I noticed that people were doing this was to have a link appear on other stock blogs. This does not take a rocket scientist to figure out, and many bloggers were doing it. That's why you have requests like I did from Dr. Roberts. So back in 2005 when I first started, I began asking other stock bloggers if they would put my link on their blog, if I would do the same. The funny thing is, is that not all bloggers were willing to reciprocate. I will tell you right now that I only have two criteria for saying yes to this type of request. One, since you made the request, you put my link up first, and you put it up corr...

CRNT - TA (Response to Comment)
2007-02-07 14:19:05
This post is in answer to my comrade the Stock Coach, who commented in my last post (the link to his blog by the way is under the "Important Links" section to the right). His question was if I bought CRNT based on technical reasons, and the answer is yes.Looking at the chart below, I liked the fact that the stock has been trading over it's 20 day EMA recently ($5.92), as well as it's 50 and 200 DMA's. Additionally, the MACD is heading towards the bullish crossover, and the RSI is over 50 and rising, but still has room to go before being considered overbought. I also liked the candlestick pattern we've had over the last three days. See current chart below:Of course, if earnings disappoint on Monday, all of this will mean nothing. My hope is that the positive technicals are pointing towards positive fundamentals. We'll see. Thanks for the comment Coach!

Trade Updates - CRNT, MMIO, AIS
2007-02-07 14:19:05
Lots to update. I waited until I was done to post this. Here are the trades:CRNT - Bought 2,100 at $6.06. I wanted to buy 3,000, but couldn't get completely filled. Earnings are Monday, hopefully they are good.MMIO - Sold all 150,000 at around .011 or so. I got tired of waiting for this one to do something.AIS - Sold 10,000 shares at $1.26. These are the trading shares that I said I would sell between $1.25 and $1.30. I still own 20,000 "core" shares. All in all it was a good week. I will post the portfolio tomorrow.

No Other Moves Today
2007-02-07 14:19:05
Other than my sale of CPST, which looks like a good move right now (we'll see if that's still the case next week), I did not make any other trades. I was looking at ASTM, CRNT, & IRSN, but never pulled the trigger. I will be looking to buy something again tomorrow.I am curious as to whether Mark or Jack sold CPST or not today. I hope you guys chime in. Also, I am curious if Scott (a long time reader) did the same.

Trade Update - CPST
2007-02-07 14:19:05
Sold all 10,000 shares at around .93. As I mentioned in the comments section last night, unless I saw some good strength, I was most likely going to move on to other opportunities. I am now searching for those other opportunities.

A Nice Day for Stock Insight
2007-02-07 14:19:05
This turned out to be a pretty good day for me. AIS, CPST, & ADSX were all up, which equated to over $2,100 on the plus side for the day. I sold ADSX, which looks like a good move right now. CPST & AIS look like they will be heading higher tomorrow. Most likely, the latter will get stuck between $1.25 and $1.30, in which case I will sell my 10,000 trading shares, per my plan. The former needs to pass .99 resistance. After that, it may have some issues with the 20 day EMA ($1.05). We'll see.

AIS - News Out
2007-02-07 14:19:05
Nothing too major in my opinion, but the US Patent Office has given them an allowance for their drug Esterin(estradiol gel). I am not sure what it means exactly, as another company co-invented the formula, which is AIS's licensee, BioSante. Either way it is good news, I am just not sure how good. You can judge for yourself, see link to the news below:Antares Pharma Announces Notice of Allowance for Elestrin(TM) Patent by U.S. Patent & Trademark Office

Portfolio Wrap-up For the Week Ending 2/2/07
2007-02-07 14:19:05
Below is the chart for this week. Since it shows up small, you can just click on the image, and it will be large enough to view. A great turn around this week, as the portfolio stopped its two week slide in style. It was up over $3,300, or 5.5%, for the week. That is my best week this year, and it closed out the month of January on a high note. So much for my fears last week of a repeat of 2006 when I was negative for the month of January. Right now, the YTD gain stands at +9.38% for the year. Below is this weeks portfolio chart:The rows in white represent stocks that were sold during the week. The "Day Gain/Loss" columns represent what happened yesterday. This past weeks gain was mainly due to a nice rally in AIS. That accounted for about $2,600 of the gain. The rest was from small gains in CPST and ADSX, which were two stocks I sold during the week. The latter ended up being a profitable trade overall, but was relatively small. The former was a losing trade overall, but...
