RSS Feeds
2007-12-26 16:11:00 I started out playing with cffeed in Coldfusion 8 about a week ago. I decided to build a RSS feed of each of my photo albums in an attempt to learn more about the tag. After scratching my head for a while and a lot of help from http://validator.w3.org/feed/ I now have an rss feed for each of my photo albums. Check them out at http://www.damonledet.com/photos More About: Adobe
Christmas Day
2007-12-26 14:33:00 I spent Christmas Day with the family, Mom, Dorian, and Steven. We had a great time. From the great joke Steven was able to play on my Mom and Dorian. A couple of weeks ago Steven had my Mom wrap a key chain picture frame for my sister. He told her not to tell my sister anything about it. A few days later he tells my sister to wrap a key chain picture frame for Mom. He told her not to tell Mom anything about it. Christmas day he has them open them at the same time. Neither of them had a clue. We spent the afternoon at the Georgia Aquarium. It was great, for a change it was not packed. Pictures after the jump. [More] More About: Personal , Christmas Day
Google weirdness
2007-12-22 23:27:00 I was talking with someone the other day about google people's names. I used to google my name when I first started blogging just to see what would come up. It had been a while so I decided to google my name today. I am lucky, as Damon Ledet seems to be a pretty unique name combination, so to my knowledge the results usually pertain to me. Any other "Damon Ledet"s out there? I would love to know if someone else has the same name. Back to the google weirdness, It returned 7670 results for a search of "Damon Ledet" I could not see how this was possible, I start going thought the results and at page 91 google stops returning 901-909 of 7670 results. I took a screen shot below. So really I have 909 results but for some reason the index thinks I have 7670. What is up with that? More About: Google , Personal

Using CFIMAGE to create a watermark
2007-11-21 16:24:00 Continuing my week off playing around with cfimage, I am thinking this is fast becoming my favorite new feature in Coldfusion 8. This morning I was thinking it would be cool if Coldfuion could watermark images for me. After about 30mins playing around I came up with this. First 2 lines I basically give both images a name. The reason the watermark is a png is I want to have the ability to use alpha channels. Next line I paste the watermark onto the image at 0x and 0y. I cheated and created the images the same size, but you could easily read the image info get the size then calculate where you want the watermark to be. The last line writes the image to the browser in the format of a jpeg. You can check it out in action at my CFwatermark page. More About: Tutorial , Adobe , Create , Watermark
Family up for a visit
2007-11-21 14:59:00 My Dad, Sister and Family came up to Atlanta for the Thanksgiving Holidays, and of course no trip to Atlanta can be complete without seeing the World of Coca-Cola. We loaded all the family up and made the trek downtown. All the kids got their full of the "carbonated drugs" at the end. Lincoln was the cutest when he tells me his stomach is bubbling and about to explode, he is five. I have a couple of pictures after the jump. [More] More About: Personal , Visit
Using cfimage to create thumbnails
2007-11-18 23:08:00 I have been playing around with the new cfimage tag in coldfusion 8. I am very impressed with the resize capability. Coldfusion 8 seemed to do a great job resizing my images into thumbnails. I created a tutorial here. Here is a little bit of code to create thumbnails. Update: My Using CFIMAGE to Generate Thumbnails tutorial was published at learncf.com More About: Tutorial , Adobe , Create
Life update
2007-11-18 22:02:00 Steven and I went down to the Acura dealership about a week ago. I traded in my TSX for a RDX and I am really enjoying it. Took me a little time to get the pictures up as I have been doing some site backend programming since I moved off of blogcfm, where my photo albums were hosted. The backend is not done yet but I can at least upload photos without opening SQL enterprise manager. More About: Personal , Life , Update
Blog stats after 4 weeks on BlogCFC
2007-11-17 22:10:00 Well I have been running blogcfc for four weeks now, and I am still very pleased. I think I got everything configured how I like it now; but a website is always a work in progress in my opinion you are never really done. Now that I have been running it a month I am amazed at how many visits my individual post get. I run google analytics on my site but I never drilled down to the number of visitors per post. I would never have guessed that a post I wrote in February of 2006 would still get over 400 views in 4 weeks. Check out the blog stats page, one of my favorite features of blogcfc. Surprise from Apple
2007-11-05 17:19:00 I have been unpacking Macs for the last few days here at work. We now have a new traveling Mac laptop classroom capable of running Final Cut Studio 2. We also purchased new iMacs for Chicago. I was cloning the iMacs, when I found a nice little surprise from apple, a test disc. I am not really sure what it is used for it just contains a bunch of audio files, pictures after the jump. [More] More About: Apple , Work
Leopard (10.5)
2007-11-02 02:21:00 Well I did it I upgraded to Leopard this evening. Seems pretty stable, though it has only been running a few hours. I really like spaces; I know Linux has been having something similar for a while. I also like the new Finder with cover flow, but I do not know if I will get much use out of it. I will set time machine up before work tomorrow, so I will see how that goes. Bottom line opinion, nothing that will really set your world on fire here, but OS X continues to evolve in the right direction. More About: Technology , Apple

Moved to BlogCFC
2007-10-19 21:02:00 I have been running BlogCFM for sometime now, and it has served me well. I was discouraged when I found out it was "abandonware". I was on a mission to find a new blog engine for blog.damonledet.com. I played with Mango Blog, Machblog, AVBlog, and BlogCFC. I decided on BlogCFC. It seems to be the most mature of the engines and has most of the features I was after. I ported all my data over from BlogCFM and setup a few 301 redirect (do not want to lose all that google love) and am now happily on BlogCFC. Thanks so much Ray for a wonderful Coldfusion blog engine. You Rock! More About: Adobe

Blog roll for BlogCFC
2007-10-18 22:20:00 I have been playing around with Ray Camden's Blog CFC for the past few weeks. I am planning on moving over from BlogCFM. One think that I really wanted with my new blog was the ability to easily update links in my blog roll. BlogCFC did not have this out the box, but I came up with a very easy whay of doing this. Using BlogCFC's Textblocks feature I created a textblok called "blog roll". Next I created a pod called blogroll.cfm and called my blog roll text block using SELECT BODY FROM dbo.tblblogtextblocks WHERE LABEL = 'Blog Roll ' #QBlogroll.body# Now all I have to do is update the links in my blog roll textblock, refresh blog cache and my blog roll is updated. Ghost Tour - Lawrenceville, GA
More articles from this author:2007-10-16 00:00:00 I did not realize that Lawrenceville, Georgia and Gwinnett County had so much history, from Larry Flint being shot right in downtown Lawrenceville to Barbara Mackle being buried alive for 81 hours in Gwinnett County. I learned these facts and well as many other, and of course a few hard to believe things on the Scary Stroll last night. It is a great little hour and a half walking ghost tour of historic Lawrenceville. Check out a couple of pictures of the old jail after the jump.
