Remote into your Macintosh from Windows
2007-10-16 00:00:00 I discovered this great video how to on the net. It demonstrates how to setup remote desktop on the Macintosh for free, no need for apple remote desktop. It also allows you to control your Macintosh via a Windows machine. I have configured my Macintosh this way and it works great. I setup everything on a thumb drive so I can take it with me anywhere. On your windows, machine download puttygen.exe from http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtath am/putty/ Generate a private key file and save it on your thumb drive also save your public key file and copy it to the Macintosh you want to control. On your Macintosh, copy the “publickey.txt file you created in step 2 to your user directory. Make sure that port 22 is open to this Macintosh if you have any firewall in place Open terminal (applications/utilities) and type “mkdir .ssh” to create the .ssh folder Type “chmod 700 .ssh” Type “mv publickey.txt .ssh/authorized_keys... Hit now playing and my new Tivo HD showed up as a Tivo I could transfer from. Tried it no luck, it shows up but I cannot transfer from it yet. Logged onto my Tivo account and the little check box is still not available. It is so close now.As for the update the interface has been updated to the Tivo HD / Tivo series 3 interface. You also get the option to boolean search your wishlist. You can get on the priority request list if you cannot wait. It says you should have the update within three days once you put yourself on the list. More About: Technology , Update , Fall

iMac Aluminum unboxing
2007-09-02 00:00:00 It final got here Friday afternoon. About a week after apple announced I put in an order for a new aluminum iMac. I spent Friday evening unboxing and setting it up. I must say this is a great machine. I final got everything installed and have been using it a couple of days. The 24inch screen is massive, the keyboard is thin but very easy to use the best keyboard I have ever used. I am a pretty computer savvy person, but this computer was so easy to setup. Of course, I formatted it first thing installing os X and Vista Ultimate (thanks Steven) using bootcamp. I installed 4 gigs of ram and must say this machine screams.Specs:24inch iMac2.8 Core 2 Duo Extreme4 GB ram750 GB Hard DriveI will run some speed test with Photoshop, After Effects, Final cut Studio in the coming days. I will keep you posted. More About: Aluminum , Unbox , Xing , Lumi

D-Link DNS-323
2007-08-15 00:00:00 I have been in the market for a home based NAS (network attached storage) device for sometime now. After some serious research I decided on the D-Link DNS-323. Here are the pros and cons I have discovered so far and pictures. Pros: Gigabit Ethernet 2 drive enclosure that can be setup in Mirror or span or individuals Nice heavy construction Ability to act as a print server via USB port Super easy to setup iTunes server built in Ability to schedule FTP transfers Cons: USB port can only be used for printer no drive expansion via USB Not really a con it is Tivo closed system but it would be nice if I could figure out a way to let this device store video files that could be played back on the Tivo All in all I am very satisfied with this guy for the price. It is a great addition to my home network. More About: D-Link
FCP Rescue
2007-08-06 00:00:00 I discovered this very cool little Final Cut Pro utility called FCP Rescue . This neat little app makes it super simple to backup and restore your FCP prefs, of course you can do it manually; but this makes it so much simpler.
Habitat for Humanity
2007-07-29 00:00:00 I am hard pressed to think of a better way to spend my Saturday. I volunteered to work on the Habit at for Humanity project at 3723 Concord Way, Doraville, GA 30340. As I understand it this is a lot that was donated to HFH after the town home that stood there burned down. I was able to meet some really cool people and it was nice to give some time back to the community. More About: Abit
Ghost Tour - Lawrenceville, GA
2007-07-23 00:00:00 I did not realize that Lawrenceville, Georgia and Gwinnett County had so much history, from Larry Flint being shot right in downtown Lawrenceville to Barbara Mackle being buried alive for 81 hours in Gwinnett County. I learned these facts and well as many other, and of course a few hard to believe things on the Scary Stroll last night. It is a great little hour and a half walking ghost tour of historic Lawrenceville. Check out a couple of pictures of the old jail after the jump. More About: Ghost , Tour , Ville
Yahoo GO - Samsung Blackjack
2007-07-17 00:00:00 Yahoo! GO has finally been released for the Samsung Blackjack . I installed it and have been playing around with it for a while. It is very cool the only draw back is it is a little slow, but that could be because it is still in beta. The email and Flickr widgets are the best thing about it the rest is ok but Windows live search has most of the other stuff beat. Now if at&t and Samsung would just hurry up with the Windows Mobile 6 update. More About: Yahoo , Lack , Yahoo!
New World of Coca-Cola
2007-07-11 00:00:00 Started the day out at The Flying Biscuit; what a great brunch spot even if the parking stinks. Made our way over to the new World of Coca -Cola , just around the corner, this new World of Coca-Cola comes with a new price of course. The World of Coca-Cola was always one of my favorite places to take anyone who came here to visit me. It was reasonably priced and offered something for both young and old alike. The new World of Coca-Cola has almost tripled the old price, but it is still worth at least one visit, and of course you get all the free Coca-Cola you can drink at the end. The new building and exhibits are a tremendous upgrade from the old location. The one thing I miss is the neon flying water display at the end of the old one, anyone who has been to the old one knows what I am talking about. The New World of Coca-Cola has pretty plain fountain drink machines at the end, a slight disappointment. More About: Coca Cola
North Georgia
2007-06-27 00:00:00 Back from an adventurous weekend in North Georgia . We rented a cabin on Screamer Mountain in Clayton, Georgia. First stop Tallulah Gorge State Park to see the water fall, next on to the Dillard House for a huge dinner. Day two, we crossed the state line into North Carolina for some rafting down the Tuckaseegee River Gorge. Our last day was spent gem mining in Franklin, North Carolina. We had a blast! Check out some of the pictures for our North Georgia Adventure.
Yelp
2007-06-23 00:00:00 I discovered a very cool website, yelp.com. It is a user driven service review site (ie. restaurants, shopping, clubs) I see it as web 2.0 at its greatest everyone has a voice, and hopefully vendors of these services will start to realize and strive for excellent customer service. Below is my Yelp Badge I only entered a few reviews so far. Samsung Blackjack
2007-05-24 00:00:00 A couple of days ago I took the plunge and purchased a Samsung Blackjack . I was holding off on getting a pda phone, being an Apple fanboy I had my eye on the iPhone, however when I found out this first version did not support 3g I passed. I figure the next iPhone will support it and I can always upgrade then. I am very happy with the blackjack so far. I have had 2 days of pretty heavy use and the normal battery is just dwindling now, it also came with an extended battery but it is twice the size and makes the back bulge a bit. I only downloaded Google Maps for mobile and am waiting for yahoo to release the blackjack version of Yahoo Go. All in all it is a great little phone at a great price. More About: Lack
Joost
2007-05-18 00:00:00 I finally got my invite for Joost . Joost is a new technology I was able to check out at the Web 2.0 Expo last month. Joost is a pretty cool way to watch television over the internet. It is by invitation only right now but should be out of Beta soon enough, defiantly a technology to keep an eye on. If you would like an invite shoot me an email at "Damon@Damonledet.com"
