2007-12-24 08:37:00 Ryan Freund, a Value Investing Blogger, has shared with us some of the key attributes that Benjamin Graham , and Warren Buffett, uses when narrowing down their universe of stocks. I have provided the 6 attributes by Graham, but check out Freund Investing to see their changes to his methodology based on the current market. 1. Crocs - New Majority Shareholder
2007-12-21 21:15:00 Zach of ZachStocks.com has a bright outlook on Croc s due to their Global Expansion, New Product Line, and new contracts. International sales outpaced domestic sales to the tune of 51%. Specifically, strength was seen in Europe and Japan as the release cited $58.1m in sales from Europe and 53.9m from Asia (of which Japan is the majority). Brazil and China are expected to be the upcoming highlights as expansion into these countries has just begun. With all the expansion overseas, Crocs is benefiting from the relative weakness in the dolla More About: Consumer Goods , Shareholder
Is this the end of the stock market party?
2007-12-21 19:04:00 I recently stumbled upon Prieur du Plessis's Investment Postcards from Cape Town and I am glad I did. In his most recent post, he wrote on what appears to be the end of the bull market and a very visible sight to the coming recession. "Not since buying my first stocks in 1968 have I experienced the stock market outlook to be as murky as we are experiencing today, Prieur said." He points to a number of observations from a long-term graph of the S&P 500 Index: ? The MACD indicator (bottom section of graph) has just given a sell si More About: Party , Stock Market , Market , Investment Ideas , Stock
NetSuite Going Dutch
2007-12-21 16:27:00 The on-demand business-management software maker has elected to use a "Dutch auction" process to price its IPO. Investors bid by submitting the number of shares they would like to buy and the price they are willing to pay. The goal of an auction is to set the IPO price closer to the shares' actual market value than the typical IPO process, which usually prices the offering at a discount -- with the hope of a pop during the first day of trading. "The formula has the potential to price the stock at a higher premium to virtually take mo More About: Technology , Goin
E-Trade Offers Commission Free Trades this Wednesday
2007-12-21 16:27:00 E-Trade Financial (Ticker Symbol: ETFC) is showing their appreciation to their loyal customers by offering one full day of commission free trading on Wednesday Dec 19, 2007. This is coming after E-Trade's stock price recently plummeted on lending troubles followed by rumors of takeovers or bankruptcy. But is this really of any value when the stock market is looking bearish (who wants to be buying right now?!) and most investors don't participate in short selling? I don't think so. Uncertainty Surrounding French Equities
2007-12-21 16:25:00 France is undergoing some significant economic changes which have sparked riots recently. Typically, stock markets will rise when an economy undertakes positive changes and prices in the benefits. However, there is a fear of inflation sweeping across Europe and the ECB is not looking at the world through the same glasses as London and New York financial professionals. France does not have total freedom with regard to their More About: French , Equities , Cert
3 China Breakouts Under the Radar
2007-12-21 16:25:00 There were four big China breakouts over the past few weeks, none of which in companies most are familiar with. These four could potentially be the next big winners coming out of China so are worth keeping an eye on. All 4 are money makers with very good looking charts, including Solarfun Power (SOLF) which I won't highlight in detail because it's way too extended from a proper entry point .... Short Volatility: The New Asset Class?
2007-12-20 22:08:00 The gist of the article is that when you're making asset allocation choices, it isn't enough to look just at the usual suspects of bonds, US equities, global equities, commodities, etc. Volatility itself, say the authors of a research paper just out from Goldman Sachs, should be treated as an asset class deserving of its own allocation... The Downward Sub-Prime Spiral
2007-12-20 16:30:00 The Mortgage industry generates liquidity for the housing market by originating loans, pooling them into securities and selling them to investors to recoup their original lent cash. Mortgage backed securities are rated based on historical default rates (which do not include sub-prime default rates as sub-prime loans are a relatively new invention). More About: Financial , Prime

Home Foreclosures Hit Record High
2007-12-19 22:00:00 Well, this doesn't help matters. Home foreclosures shot up to an all-time high in the third quarter, fresh evidence of the problems afflicting distressed homeowners amid the housing meltdown. The Mortgage Bankers Association in its quarterly snapshot of the mortgage market released Thursday said that the percentage of all mortgages nationwide that started the foreclosure process jumped to a record high of 0.78% during the July-to-September period. That surpassed the previous high of 0.65% set in the prior quarter. The delinquency rate f More About: Foreclosures , High , Record , Cord
Oceanfreight Shares Tank, CEO & CFO Quit
2007-12-19 22:00:00 Shares of Oceanfreight (OCNF) tanked yesterday after the CEO and CFO mysteriously quite. The stock tanked to below IPO pricing levels on record volume. The two company officials quit without giving any reasons to investors. The company was also downgraded immediately after by Ferris Baker Watts to neutral until the company addresses the issue. Whatever the reason may be, it is almost never positive when two high ranking company officials silently quit their job. December Monthly Review
2007-12-19 18:24:00 Another victorious month snatched from the jaws of defeat! The bizarre rally leading up to the Fed meeting was quickly negated, and we had another month with no losing trades - and more importantly, another month in which we handily beat our 10% target return. We're really pleased with our performance this quarter, especially given the market turmoil. Hopefully these results will help disprove the naysayers out there who (erroneously) claim that market-neutral trading is only suitable for quiet markets. CPI, Stocks, and You
2007-12-19 17:06:00 Today's CPI, in my opinion, puts the Fed between a really big rock and a hard place. On one hand, you have the CPI potentially showing increasing inflation rates while on the other hand the U.S. may be showing signs of a slowdown. More About: Stocks

Making A List, Checking It Twice
2007-12-19 17:05:00 With the Fed's decision to only cut interest rates by 0.25%, we should all be reminded that it is certainly not wise to buy all at once. No matter how great your stock is, there are other factors out there in the market that could affect your stocks performance, even if the company is raking in the money. What you need to realize is the difference between a stock that has been taken down along with the market, and one that truly does deserve to go down based on it's future earnings and fundamentals. Greenspan Warns of Stagflation, Fed Auction
2007-12-18 16:14:00 "The recent PPI data that showed a 3.2% (highest in 35 years) monthly increase in wholesale prices, and a 0.8% rise in the CPI, brings about a conundrum reminiscent of the so called double dip recession we saw in the early 1980s. Eerie similarities from that time period are popping up every day: record oil prices, a weak consumer, and a limping housing market, all lead to a higher likelihood of recession in 2008 than most economists are letting on - note the terrible accuracy of recession predictions in the past. Sirius Satellite Radio (SIRI) announced that it believes that its merger with XM Satellite Radio (XMSR) will be completed before the end of 2007. Electronic Arts, A Takeover Target?
More articles from this author:2007-12-17 07:38:00 Bruce Everiss, a veteran games industry marketer, believes that a takeover of Electronic Arts is inevitable. The only way he sees them remaining independent is to rapidly become a lot bigger. To merge with, say Ubisoft and/or Konami to make a global gaming giant. If the regulators would allow this. The video games business is currently going through an "unprecedented phase of consolidation." This phase is characterized by big global media companies investing very heavily to rapidly increase their presence, mainly by the acquisition of ind More About: Technology , Electronic Arts , Takeover 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 |
