With the online holiday shopping season officially kicking off Monday , online retailers will have to work harder this year for their share of the holiday gift list. This holiday season is expected to be the weakest since 2002, due to the number of new online customers leveling off, more Web retailers have been pushing special offers and promotions to draw consumers. 2007-11-27 16:53:00
E-Trade shares spiked 19% Friday on continued speculation the struggling online brokerage might negotiate a takeover by chief rivals TD Ameritrade or Charles Schwab. And, recent comments made by Ameritrade Chief Executive Joe Moglia about his interest in buying at least part of E-Trade has sparked expectations that more serious talks might have evolved. There's no doubt the companies have been interested in exploring a potential d

Repegging of GCC currencies a bullish event
2007-11-26 22:25:00
The recent talk by the UAE of possibly repegging their currency to a basket rather than the dollar makes me bullish on the GCC region and GCC stocks. I am staying away from financial and real estate stocks in general but there are stocks with significant value in the GCC region. The fact that the possibility is being spoken in public is very significant and cannot be ignored.

You Know You're Onto Something When Your Investment Strategy Offends People
2007-11-24 20:40:00
Long-term investing and diversification--these are the pillars of the investment community. Short selling and Penny Stocks are the ugly ducklings. My core trading strategy is short selling penny stocks and it elicits reactions like this. We need democracy in finance--be open to all strategies, especially if they've proven successful, no matter how strange they may seem.

Catching The Falling Knife That Is Ceradyne
2007-11-24 19:25:00
Ceradyne (crdn) has been in free fall since reporting earnings on October 30, 2007. It has fell from it's peak of $84.41 and is trading today at only $42.42! Wall street was not impressed when Ceradyne guided to the low end of guidance and has been punishing this stock ever since. This company is trading at only a 7.99 P/E ratio which is basically saying that this company can't continue to grow it's bottom line.

Mastercard Decline is a Buying Opportunity
2007-11-24 02:47:00
On October 16th TraderMark saw the decline in Mastercard as a great buying opportunity. The shares continued to declined until the 22nd, where they are starting to move back up, but still well below the $163.21 price tag on October 12th. Why is it a buy, other than the fact that it has dropped in the last few weeks? half of its revenue is overseas and TraderMark expects that to continue to grow as the middle class of Brazil, China, India, et al gets up and running. As TraderMark points out, the stock is not cheap, but the reality is ther

Kraft Shedding Post Cereals Business
2007-11-24 02:41:00
I am really impressed with Kraft. This is a story more about Private-Label Cereal Maker Ralcorp but what I see is a great job by Kraft's CEO Irene Rosenfeld. She has done what many big conglomerates fail to do, focus on their core competency. Irene Rosenfeld has launched a massive turnaround effort aimed at revitalizing sales of the company's brands and is shedding slow-growing divisions to better focus the portfolio of the world's second-largest food company. Kraft said if the deal is conducted through a spin off, it expects shares

Chrysler looking to return to profitability by 2009
2007-11-24 02:40:00
Chrysler is looking to return to profitability by 2009 and is considering massive branding changes that would further simplify its product portfolio while helping cut as many as 1,000 dealers. A plan now being discussed calls for Chrysler dealers to sell all of the auto maker's passenger cars under the Chrysler name. Dodge dealers would exclusively offer pickup and commercial trucks, while Jeep dealers would sell Jeep and sport-utility vehicles, according to three dealers familiar with the discussions. Such a scenario would allow Chrysl

Warren Buffett Buying Financials
2007-11-24 02:40:00
Todd Sullivan at ValuePlays wrote this article a few days ago, about Warren Buffett buying into the financial sector. He feels that it shows there is short term weakness in the financial sector, but not to be afraid as their is long term value there (as evidenced by Warren Buffett buying into Bank of America (BAC)). Todd wantes to remind is to not confuse "cheap" with "value". "A cheap stock is one that will not cost you much money to purchase. A value stocks costs what it costs to buy but it is worth much more, a significant diff

Dogs of the Dow - 2008 Preview
2007-11-24 02:40:00
The Dogs of the Dow is a fairly simple investment strategy, you pick the 10 highest yield shares in the Dow Jones Industrial Average and put an equal amount of money into each of them. Adjust the portfolio once a year so that it once again has equal amounts in the top ten shares by yield. This investment strategy has a decent track record. According to DogsoftheDow.com, the strategy has had a 17.7% average annual return since 1973 with the Dow Jones Industrial Average returning only 11.9% during that same period. Anyways, The Discipline

EchoStar surged $10.35, or 26%, to $50.18 on renewed buyout rumors. Citigroup upgraded the company to "buy" from "hold" Monday based on valuation as well as "ongoing conviction" about a deal with the telecommunications provider. "We assign a 65% probability that AT&T acquires Echostar over the next 12 months," analyst Jason Bazinet said in a research note. "While we also think sub-prime mortgage issues are influencing Echostar's churn rate, which was 1.9% in 3Q07, we think churn is more than priced in to the stock at current le

19 Principles of The Intelligent Investor
2007-11-21 19:33:00
David Merkel put together a list of 19 lessons from the famed book, "The Intelligent Investor ", by Benjamin Graham. If you are new to the investing world, or are a long time stock traded, these lessons will help everyone. I won't list them all, but here are a few of my favorites: 6. Purchase bargain issues on a net asset value basis when you can find them, but be careful of quality issues. 7. Volatility of stock prices can be your friend if you understand the underlying value of a well-financed corporation. 12. Pay attention to the bal

Why I Am Adding Sandisk & Ceragon To My Portfolio
2007-11-21 19:33:00
Shlomi Cohen believes now is the time to get into SanDisk and Ceragon. He doesn't believe that we will witness a global recession hitting the thriving computer, and handset markets, and in effect anything related to the "industrial revolution" of the current century, i.e. the Internet industry. He is bullish on SanDisk for a few reasons: director Michael Marks bought $2 million worth of shares at around $40 each on the open market at the end of October, Goldman Sachs reiterated its "Buy" rating for SanDisk with a target price of $65, a
