This is an example of a video I just got from the News Room. They offer a lot of content from a variety of news worthy sources, including the major television news networks. I decided to give it a try and found that the search feature helps to locate interesting videos and articles quickly. I found this video after search for the keywords "making money" I did not know that this particular state employee was raking in so much cash. I guess it follows the rule that teachers are poorly paid, while administrators get all the perks. I suggest giving this site a try, it seems to be sort of like Google's Adsense video campaign but it allows you to use content from other sites and get paid for it. Get relevant content for your website. The videos are easy to embed and share and you'll be able to make some money from advertising. Today the stock market will likely drop a few hundred points due to fears of increasing interest rates. When all the dipping is done, it seems like it would be a good time to buy in. It is not the major purchases that cost you (your house, car, education) these purchases are usually well thought out in advance and made with good judgment. It is the little impulse purchases, the gizmos and gadgets, impulse buys here and there while running errands that take all your money without you even noticing. I am writing down what I spend my money on, every purchase for a month and will see where it is going. Think before you buy: is the item a want or a need, can I live without it, is it worth buying now or better to be free of debt? Remember little things add up.Add your two cents

Keep it simple. Stay on track

If a million dollars seems like an unreachable goal. Set yourself up with short-term and midterm goals. Break it down to saving $100 a month or even $20 a week. Once you reach your short-term goals continue until you are able to reach bigger goals. Celebrate reaching savings milestones, but don't celebrate by going on a shopping spree that would defeat the purpose. My current goals include saving an extra $100 a month to fund an Roth IRA and investment account. I would also like to build up my savings by $24,000 each year. That would mean saving at least $2000 dollars a month. It may take a few years before my savings account start to build a lot of interest. My midterm goal is to have at least twice my current yearly income in savings ($120,000) by the time I reach 40. I think I'll have about $30,000 in my 401k by 30, and hopefully ($120,000) by the time I'm 40. Then I'll be able to cruise into my 50th not having to worry about retirement.Add your two cents

If you are motivated you can do anything. I will save 1 million dollars for retirement. I read an interesting article today on Yahoo Finance (a great site for financial information) titled How to Save $1 Million for Retire ment It talks about saving 2x your annual salary. Oxymorons in advertising

Sometimes advertisements don't make any sense at all. Stores commonly use the line "the more you spend the more you save." I personally hate this saying because it is a lie. When you are spending money, you are doing the opposite of saving money. Thus you can't save money by spending it. People are brainwashed into thinking that they need to reach $100 in order to save an extra 10% (a measly $10) or whatever the deal is. Unfortunately many fall victim to this trick and spend extra money in order to reach the prize of (extra savings). They don't realize the extra spending they are doing in order to "save money". When you go shopping, know exactly what you're getting, don't get distracted or side-tracked by the glitz and glam of sales.Add your two cents

I got a new cell phone when my plan with Verizon expired and took advantage of a promotional offer. Basically I got two cell phones for free after rebate and lowered my monthly cell phone bill by switching to a cheaper family plan. I got the LG 83000, I let the Verizon guy upsell me to this phone with more features and options rather than going with the basic cell phone which I intended to buy. I also was able to get a discount through work to bring down the cost a bit more. Verizon was not honoring my employee discount so I had to talk with many of their customer service reps and get things hammered out. Eventually they got it right and I got credit when they "lost my application" (always keep records, time and date things that you need to submit) Right now I pay under $60 for two phones, which is not that bad considering I used to pay around $90-$110 a month for the same thing.I didn't opt for any of the extra features (to keep costs at a minimum, this is why I should have...

Which is better? This month it looks like money made from affiliates will surpass money made from Adsense for this particular blog. I started tracking profit this month just out of curiosity. I am not really an advertiser, but I'm interested in marketing and the psychology of advertising. If you are focused on making the most profit from your site, then you are doomed to fail, I feel that money should not be your ultimate motivation. I feel like a hypocrite because I've become focused on the bottom line from time to time. You may have noticed the new advertising campaign for the Mac. It is pretty funny, one guy is "PC" older gentleman, with glasses, dorkier, stiff; the other character is "Mac" he's young, hip, and witty. Here is a great example of advertising that focuses on a certain market. The Mac appeals to college aged kids that look, talk, and act like him. We generally identify and trust those people who resemble us. While the PC is an older dude, more like a father figure, who just doesn't get it. The ad campaign is very clever.

I went for the carrot. One day while I was innocently shopping at The Express, I purchased a few things (a shirt, pants, and a slick pair of sunglasses) for a total of $165. When I went to the cashier they offered me a 15% discount if I signed-up for an Express credit card, I agreed and then I was done. Got the credit card bill later that month and paid it off in full. Then the card sat in my drawer for 3 years. It also sat on my credit report, I didn't realize that the account was still active until I saw the Express Card on my credit report. I immediately closed it out. That was a stupid mistake, never open up a line of credit that you will not use, and never sign up for a cheap discount.
