Review: DealLocker.com
2007-08-23 23:40:00
If you are like me , trying to save a buck or two here and there, you are obviously on the lookout for coupons that you could use for your usual spending. I have tried many sites like coolsavings.com etc. but I don't find a lot of good stuff there.Recently I came across this cool website DealLock er.com that has a lot coupons that I could use.Last month, I bought a new construction single family home. To install blinds on all the windows in the house, the builder was charging me about $3000, but I was told that it can done in half that price. So I went to deallocker.com and clicked on Home coupons and there I found blinds.com coupons .The best part about this website is that if I come across a good deal/coupon I can go into the website, go to the relevant category and and add the coupon so that others can take advantage of it too."Deal Locker is dedicated to friends helping friends get deals!" This is the deallocker.com motto!!They also have a 1 Click Bookmarklet that you can drag ...

High Energy Bills ?? Try out these simple ideas !
2007-08-23 23:39:00
The most thorough energy efficiency resource on the Internet is the home page for the U.S. Department of Energy and its affiliated Energy Star program. These pages provide a great deal of general information about minor home improvement projects that can shave off a significant portion of your monthly energy expenditures. In this post, I'm focussing on saving energy by using our appliances.Air Conditioning Use fans when possible instead of AC. A few carefully placed fans can create a cross-breeze that will cool down a room quickly. Close your curtains and shades at night; open them during the day. Make sure the "fresh air" vent on the air conditioner is closed so you are not cooling outside air. Clean leaves and debris from the unit and clean the filter often. Read HowStuffWorks' Guide to Maintaining Your Air Conditioner. Dishwasher Load dishes in their proper locations to ensure maximum cleaning efficiency. Martha Stewart has written a helpful guide to "Dishwasher Strategy." Set...

Features that add "Resale Value" to a Home
2007-08-15 18:50:00
According to bankrate.com, the 10 features listed below add a lot of value to your home.Based on my recent purchase of a new construction single-family home, I have added my comments for each of these features.1. An updated kitchenWhen we visited the model home, we really liked the granite counter tops, new appliances (that got me excited too!), lot of cabinets for storage, and an island in the center of the kitchen. The island is can be used for more countertop space as well as a small eat-in area. For my wife, this was the biggest selling point of the home.2. Modern bathroomsThis is an important one. The master bathroom must have double vanities. That means, you and your partner each have their own space with a sink to get ready. Modern bathrooms also have a separate jetted bath tub and shower area. Modern light fixtures are a plus.3. A well-appointed master suiteFor me, the master suite was the selling point. A master suite must, at least, have enough space for a king size bed, ...

Indian call center lands in Ohio
2007-08-10 20:50:00
To a person of India n origin, staying in the US since 2000, this news makes me very happy that Indian companies are reacting positively to the concerns of the American people by bringing jobs back in the Us as well as giving their own customers a choice of having their customer service personnel in the US or in India. Hopefully this love would spread in Europe too.Indian call center lands in Ohio More foreign companies are finding that hiring Americans offers distinct advantages, reports Fortune's Jia Lynn Yang.FORTUNE MagazineBy Jia Lynn Yang, Fortune writer-reporterAugust 3 2007: 5:49 AM EDT(Fortune Magazine) -- It would be easy to imagine Reno, Ohio, as the type of place that would be hit hardest by outsourcing - a small American town losing out to the invisible hand shifting jobs to places like Bangalore and Guangzhou. Instead, outsourcing is bringing the jobs to Reno. Across the street from an Army Reserve center and next to a farm, a customer-service call center hums, its 25...

Visa or Mastercard: Which is Better ?
2007-08-07 03:18:00
The two leading credit card companies in the world today are the competitors Visa and Mast erCard. They both operate in a very similar way. While Visa claims to have almost a billion cards issued, MasterCard has over twenty five thousand banks issuing its cards and it is difficult to find any difference in the number of locations worldwide that accept the cards, which is now estimated at over twenty million. But, as far as most consumers are concerned, there is no real difference between the two. They are both very widely accepted in over one hundred and fifty countries and it is very rare to find a location that will accept one but not the other. However, neither Visa nor MasterCard actually issue any credit cards themselves. They are both simply methods of payment. They rely on banks in various countries to issue credit cards that utilise these payment methods. Therefore, the interest rates, rewards, annual fees, and all other charges are issued by your bank and when you pay your bil...

Just a few months back we purchased a new construction home. So now we are in the process of finalizing our mortgage. I want to make sure that I get the best deal. So I started going to various banks and mortgage brokers and get quotes from them. Now this a time-consuming process. If only there was a single location where I can submit my application and it gets sent to all banks and brokers. they can then comeback to me with their offers.Enter Mort gage -Mart !For my mortgage loan, this site is exactly what I was looking for. Here is how you get a home loan quote.Go to their quote pageEnter your basic mortgage information like type of home, type of mortgage (i.e. 30 year, 15 year etc.) and state of residence.Based on this information, mortgage-mart will find the best company for you to work with that would give you the best deal. Then you set to apply for the mortgage. So basically Mortgage-Mart just acts as bridge between you and hundreds of mortgage sources out there. This is exactly w...

Easy Ways to Save Money
2007-08-01 14:25:00
Here are a few simple ways to start saving money. I follow, or have followed, or will soon follow all these ways.Start smallMost financial experts feel that we need to save at least 5 percent, and preferably 10 percent, of our income and place it into an interest-bearing, liquid savings account. However, don?t give up if you?re not able to put aside 5 or 10 percent. Establishing a saving habit and saving consistently will eventually add up; even as little as $5 per pay period will accumulate. Once saving becomes a habit, set as your savings goal a maintained savings account of at least three to six months? income. This will prevent borrowing when unexpected expenses arise or in case of a period of illness or unemployment.Put money into a retirement accountIf it is available, sign up with your workplace?s 401(k), 403(b), or similar retirement plan in which your company will contribute matching funds to the plan in your name. The most common match is 50 cents on the dollar. If this is...

Investing Strategy for building your Nest Egg
2007-07-23 14:05:00
As far as building your retirement fund is concerned, the most important strategy is to Reduce Your Loss. The best way to minimize this risk is through the power of diversification. By diversifying your portfolio, you are ensuring that your nest egg is spread across different baskets. Diversification helps to strengthen and protect your portfolio.Your chances are increased that if one area falls another area that you have invested in will remain strong, and your assets will be protected..We can define risk as the probability of things going wrong. Once things have gone wrong, they cannot go right. Older investors will remember this feeling they have after their losses, of wanting to turn the clock back. It is the same feeling you get after losing a loved one, when you want to reach out and touch the person after she or he is gone. The preventive part is all about ?diversification?, almost the only way to manage risk as defined in financial markets. Both risk measurement and diversifi...

Save big on your Mortgage
2007-07-20 15:34:00
I read an article today by David Bach @ Yahoo Finance where he explains that the best way to save on a mortgage is to make biweekly payments. But for me and my wife, who are always finding ways to save more money, wherever we can, the last part of the article sounded much better. We don't want to be limited to just paying of 10% every year.Going BiweeklyWhen you set up a biweekly mortgage payment plan, instead of making your monthly mortgage payment the way you normally do you split it down the middle and pay half every two weeks. The result is that you end up making one extra full payment every year. (Twenty-six half payments is the equivalent of 13 full payments.) The best part is that the extra payment is made gradually over the course of the year, so you don't feel the pinch. And since most people are paid every two weeks, a biweekly payment plan turns out to be a phenomenal budgeting tool.Anyone can do this. You don't need a special mortgage, and you can set it up anytime.Pay...

Investing in a Tradtional IRA
2007-07-19 04:54:00
Recently, there was a lot of talk going on in my office regarding IRAs and 401K. So I am going to try to unravel the mysteries behind these investment vehicles in a few posts. Today, I'm starting with Traditional IRA.A traditional IRA is an individual retirement account (IRA). The IRA is held at a custodian such as a bank or brokerage, and may be invested in anything that the custodian allows (for instance, a bank may allow certificates of deposit, and a brokerage may allow stocks and mutual funds).Income limitsIf a taxpayer's household is covered by one or more employer-sponsored retirement plans, then the deductibility of traditional IRA contributions are phased out as specified income levels are reached.* Married Filing Jointly or Qualified Widow and Modified Adjusted Gross Income is between $75,000 and $85,000 (this is scheduled to rise to $80,000 to $100,000 in 2007)* Married Filing Separately (and you lived with your spouse at any time during the year) and modified AGI is ...
