London Violence
2008-01-19 03:55:00
This morning I was walking through Clapham Junction station between platforms when I heard a man shouting at the guy working behind the counter of a mini newspaper/sweet stall. I didn’t heard the whole conversation, but I did hear: “I’m a London er, I will shoot you, motherf**ker! I will shoot you!” As I continued walking away from the scene he kept on repeating his vow to shoot the shopkeeper. I don’t know what started the argument, but I was shocked at the guy’s vehemence, and at the threat itself. I’m hoping that it was just that - an empty threat made in the heat of the moment. And what’s being a Londoner got to do with shooting people? Only yesterday I found out about the 13 year old girl who was stabbed at her school in South London, which several of my friends attended in the 90s. Apparently her boyfriend was part of a gang, and his enemies decided to hurt her to get to him… Related PostsWhere are the rainbows? You Belon...

The MacBook Slim (aka MacBook Air)
2008-01-16 04:01:00
If you’re any kind of geek, you probably already know about the Apple Keynote Speech, and the announcement of the forthcoming MacBook Air, the thinnest laptop ever. I prefer to call it the MacBook Slim , as that sounds more bad-ass to me. While the J.D. explodes with envy, the rest of us can admire and covet. The Flash Player and a browser with Javascript support are needed.. I won’t bore you with the tech specs here, but as we all know, being slim and sexy comes with a cost. To eliminate those extra inches you might turn down that extra scoop of ice cream or opt for salad instead of a steak dinner; the MacBook Air doesn’t have a internal disk drive or an ethernet port, there’s only one USB 2.0 drive, the memory can’t be upgraded, and the battery can’t be replaced by the user. But is it worth $1799 / £1199? Hell yes! Related PostsA momentmmmHair of the DogA mini junk-food bonfireWas that an intervention?

Curling up inside my private tortures

Vid: Play Dead - Björk Last week wasn’t a great one for me at all. It was fairly miserable actually. On Monday I discovered that I was broke after my Christmas shopping binges, and eventually ended up leeching some dirty cash from my credit card to keep me going until pay-day (this Thursday or Friday). However, (before that brainwave) when I tried to buy a train ticket with my credit card I discovered that the card had expired, and I’d left the new one at home. After borrowing a pound off a mate I went to the station to get my train home, and discovered that I was 15 pence short. Luckily for me, a cute angel who was helping people to use the ticket machines gave me it so I could get home. During that journey home I decided that Everything Must Go. Time to start selling the things I’m not using and don’t need. On Tuesday I ended up having an argument with my colleague about our jobs and about the fact that her job is being cut to 3 days (like mine). She trie...

Sunday Sauce #28
2008-01-14 00:43:00
I’ve decided to decrease the frequency of Sunday Sauce for now, it might appear on a fortnightly or monthly basis. I’m currently reviewing my blogging routine, and I’m thinking of some new and exciting features for the coming weeks and months. Do not fear, I will definitely post gorgeous pics on here on a regular basis when I feel the urge. This week I’ve decided to feature the gorgeous King and Queen of Sparta from 300: Lena Headley and Gerald Butler, who both happen to be British. Here’s a hilarious and bawdy video from a late-night show which features both actors. – Lena Headley played Queen Gorgo, who was a kick-ass character in her own right. Quote: “I’ve been lucky, because I’ve always remained under the radar.” Not anymore, luv. The Flash Player and a browser with Javascript support are needed.. – Gerald Butler, who played King Leonidas in the movie. Quote: ???I’m very down-to-earth. I think I̵...

I suppose you could use the website to try out different hairstyles on yourself before going to the hairdresser/barber, but celeb swapping is so much more fun. Love London
2008-01-06 04:00:00
Last Wednesday I was bored of hanging around the house and decided to go out. I didn’t have any specific plans, though I wanted to go to the National Portrait Gallery and the OXO Tower if possible. Whilst on the train to Victoria I decided to get off at Clapham Junction and see my brother at work. We caught up for a few moments in between customers, and I bought a cheap camera off him (Sony Cybershot, 6MP for £70 including accessories cos they didn’t have a box for it). Afterwards, I visited the nearby Debenhams department store and bought some clothes. Then I decided to get a bus into central London . I caught a single-decker bus (route 239) which was heading to Victoria. There was just me and a few elderly women on the bus. After a little while I looked out and saw a great view of the Thames at Battersea. I decided to get off the bus at the next stop and take some pics of that view. Pump It Up: Dance Mix (A Review)
2008-01-06 02:05:00
A few weeks ago I wrote about some new workout dvds that were about to be released. Since then I bought one of them, the Ministry of Sound’s Pump It Up Dance Mix. I was confident in the quality of this dvd before my purchase having enjoyed previous Ministry of Sound workouts in the past. I was looking forward to working out to recent dance hits like Let Me Think About It and The Creeps. The workout is presented by choreographer Gareth Walker (who has recently worked with Take That), and three sexy girls. Sure there wasn’t a man with an afro this time around, but I couldn’t help being enthused by Gareth’s effervescent and camp personality. He was also a great instructor, and I found myself following his dance combos fairly easily. I would say that this video isn’t for someone who doesn’t like dancing or is completely new to exercise, as it’s fairly high-impact and fast-moving video. I definitely felt like I was one of the sexy girls dancing...

Take a Chance on Céline
2008-01-05 19:33:00
I picked up Céline Dion’s new album today, and I’m listening to it right now. I’ve got several of her previous albums (English and French), so you could call me a fan. My favourite albums of hers are Falling into You and Let’s Talk About Love. She’s such a versatile singer, and her vocal technique is impeccable. She seems like such a nice person too… I would have loved to see her in Las Vegas, but she’s doing a world tour soon, so I might catch her at some point. So I was quite amused to come across this youtube tribute to her awesomeness. If you ever wanted to see Céline doing the chicken dance or singing “Who let the Dogs out?”, well it’s your lucky day. Addicted to love?

Hair scraped back? Vacant stare? Tight dress? Braless bosoms? Musical instrument in hand (and no idea of how to play it)? Yes to all of the above? Then we have a hot music video homage to this classic 80’s tune. I prefer the original, but the others are great too. 1986: Addict ed to Love - Robert Palmer (Just read on wiki that this was supposed to be a duet with Chaka Khan, but her record company wouldn’t release her to work on Palmer’s label. She was still credited with the vocal arrangements. This song is awesome anyway, but imagine it with Chaka’s vocals! ) – 1999: Man, I feel like a Woman - Shania Twain – 2003 Christmas is all Around - Bill Nighy (hilarious - shame I didn’t find this a couple of weeks ago, but Christmas season lasts until 6 January, so it’s still okay.) – 2007: Green Light - Beyoncé – There was another video that I wanted to locate (On the Greener Side by Michelle Shocked) but it had been ...

Movies I’ve watched recently
2008-01-03 22:11:00
P2 was the perfect movie to watch on Christmas Day. A woman works late on Christmas Eve and gets trapped in her work car park with a psychotic security guard called Thomas. I don’t watch horror movies very often, but the publicity pics showing a gorgeous blonde running around with an axe sparked my interest. Both of the main characters were very convincing in their roles. Some of the difficulties with movies with a very narrow scope like this is maintaining the interest without the use of sub-plotting, but this film interspersed the intense chases with bizarre moments like Thomas’ Elvis dance (complete with hip thrusts)… Invariably in these kind of films there are always moments when you think, ’she could have escaped just then’, but of course that wouldn’t have given us the glorious finale scene. And it was glorious. And gory. Urban Recluse Rating: 3 out of 5 stars – Life Support is about a HIV-positive woman called Ana (Latifah) who ov...

Nike+ Supersonic London’s fastest 1000 race a floodlit 1K course through Battersea Park cheered to the finish by 2000 of their mates. Live performances from Dizzee Rascal and The Enemy fuel their speed as we discover who’s the fastest of the fast. I’m not too far from Battersea, so I’ll see if I can attend this event. It makes me wish I could run a proper distance; I can run for a bus when necessary, but not over any real distance. I’ve signed up a few times for the Nike 10K race, but couldn’t cope with the training schedule. It’s still a goal of mine, but I think I need to work on getting fitter before I try to train for it again. In school I was one of the fastest girls in my class. And I’m still hard to catch.
