My first pay slip

I was presented with a certificate and a weird plastic paper weight on a wooden block a few weeks ago by an important person in a suit to commemorate twenty five years of service with my employer. I guess that is quite a long time, especially these days where job security is an old fashioned word (two words?). I remember my dad saying to me when I was first offered this job "As long as you don't hit anyone or steal anything, you have a job for life now son.". I don't suppose anyone else is interested, but I wanted to preserve my first pay slip for posterity, so I've turned it into bits and bytes before time turns it into dust! I don't think I would like to contemplate living on only $5555 a year right now!

Tsunami warning

Now here's something you don't see everyday. There was a big earthquake (8.1) near the Solomon Islands last night and now the Bureau of Meteorology have issued a Tsunami warning for the East Coast of Tasmania. Apparently the first wave is due to hit at about 12:30pm today. I sit right on a window near the top floor at work looking out over the Hobart waterfront so guess where I'll be looking at lunch time today? We got a PS3

Two years ago Emma and Brad wanted me to buy them a Playstation2, but I said no because there were rumours about a new Playstation3 comming out and I already had a cool  High Definition TV that would go really well with a new High Definition Playstation (besides, I couldn't afford a PS2 at the time). Today (the launch day for the new PS3 in Australia) I decided to go see Adam for a haircut and while I was sitting in the chair and chatting I was thinking, thinking, thinking about buying a PS3. So somehow I left work to get a haircut and came back with a Playstation3! After Brad was lucky enough to be the first kid in the state to play on the new PS3 and Emma showed a huge amount of interest as well, I decided that if I ditched a planned trip to Melbourne to watch Carlton thrash St Kilda then I could put the money I was going to spend towards a PS3.
