Not Tonight Dear, I Have A Modem!
2008-03-10 11:20:00
The headline must have raised a few eyebrows for sure. It is a tagline from a famous movie! Guess! As funny as it may be, this might be actually happening to you. It may be not the exact ?situation?, but I find that we spend more time on the internet and neglect the things and people that matter the most to us.Imagine this; you take your remaining leave to chill at home; Or may be you go on vacation to get away from it all. Yet, you still keep writing your blog, and staying up to date on what?s happening in the blogospehere. I know a blogger, who is blogging while he is on his honeymoon! (I wonder what his new wife thinks about it.) But hey, it?s a personal choice and I can?t dictate a "right" or "wrong".Wherever we go, there is always the tendency to stay connected. You get online, check mail, chat, read news etc? Before you know it, your day is over. You think to yourself... "my.... time flies, even when I am on holiday". Has that happened to you?Are you an internet addict?I am no...

A Day In The Life Of The Resigned
2008-03-07 03:45:00
Poem by Dr. Joe RubinoAfter all is said and doneAnd today is just a memoryWe will look and laughAnd nod and sighAnd think it strangeTo have tossed and worriedHoped and prayedFor so familiar an ending.Morning dawnsThe city risesSweeping out the cobwebs of the mindWith well-worn brooms. The moans of children off to schoolTo learn the ways to wipe the smiles off their faces.Along the windings of the streetsThe memories strive to lingerOf those who stood in fearIn stagnant and decaying livesNot knowing of their right to chooseBut opting to malinger. The midday sun is strong and brightFor those who seek to find the light. But for those in their hiding placesThe darkness tends to conceal all faces. The sun goes downAs dusk grows nearTurning memory into fear. The chance to do – again gone byWe turn... and climb the stair... and sigh.Too long day(He'll turn and say). She yawnsAnd nods her head.Evening's comeThe moon remindsWith such a grinThat wipes the laughter from your chinThe choice to ac...

Perfect Your Work Poker-Face (Looking Like It’s Under Control When It Isn
2008-03-04 03:34:00
You might argue that "looking like it’s under control when it isn’t", is trying to act "fake". However, there are times in life, when you need to hide what you really feel and show a poker-face. This is especially true in the workplace. We've all witnessed people who have lost control of their emotions at work, slamming doors, yelling at coworkers or customers, and saying things they'll soon regret. Imagine this; the idea you have been working on profusely over the week-end is turned down by your superiors, your boss wears a hideous outfit to the morning meeting, you get dumped during the lunch break..... Whatever the trigger, there are some occasions when you are in hysterics (for good and bad reasons). Yet you know it is unprofessional to let out your emotions in the workplace. You are painfully aware that you are committing career suicide by losing control of your emotions at work. What can you do about it?#1. Recognize what ticks you offBe alert to the types of situations ...

Intimate Details Of My Love Affair With Writing!
2008-02-28 03:39:00
I was introduced to writing at a very young age. When I was about 6 years old, I had my first exhibition. My pieces of creativity were pinned to our home curtains! I would invite neighbors and my relations who lived close by, to come over for the exhibition. At the time, my motivation for holding an exhibition wasn’t because I loved writing or any style of creativity. It was because I used to get a few coins every time someone came to visit the "exhibition"! Looking back at it now, it all seems a bit embarrassing. Whenever there are family reunions, these things have a nasty way of coming to haunt me!In school, the form of writing was essays. I didn’t like writing essays. Possibly because English Literature was the only subject I didn’t get an A! Then there was university. Every assignment was followed by report. That was when I began to realize that there was no escape from writing. Then it finally happened.I was in my final year at university and I had to write my BSc thesis...

American Idol Got Me Thinking About My Most Valuable Possession
2008-02-25 06:32:00
Music plays a big part in my life. Mainly it is a hobby, which sometimes turns into an obsession! I can play a few instruments and I like listening to various genres of music. I love to sing as well, but God has not bestowed that talent on me. Of course, that doesn’t limit me from exercising my vocal chords. I have my own center stage; in the shower! Now you might understand why I am an ardent American Idol fan. Yes, I watch every show (without skipping through the commercials!). It is my time for entertainment, after a hard days work. Believe it or not, I was inspired to write this post, based on a certain comment that was made by Paula. (So may be watching American Idol is not a total waste of time!)Let me take you back to last week, when the top 12 girls sang. Just before Kady Malloy started singing, they showed a recap of some scenes recorded backstage during Hollywood week. In an attempt to get her nerves out, Kady did an excellent imitation of Britney Spears. (Watch the embed...

A Software Developer's Love Letter!
2008-02-21 10:27:00
This was an email that was forwarded to me. I thought of sharing the creativity with you. Enjoy!Baby,I saw you yesterday while surfing on the local train platform and realized that you are the only site I was browsing for. For a long time, I've been lonely, trying to find a bug in my life and you can be a real debugger for me now. My life is just an uncompiled program without you that never produces an executable code and hence is useless. You not only have a beautiful face, but all your Activex controls are attractive as well. Your smile is so delightful that it encourages me and gives me power equal to thousands of mainframes processing power. When you looked at me last evening, I felt all my program modules running smoothly and giving expected results, which I have never experienced before. With this letter, I just want to convey that, if we linked together, I'll provide you with all the objects and libraries necessary for a human being to live an error free life. Thinking About Money The Rich Dad, Poor Dad Way (Book Review)
2008-02-18 16:36:00
Rich Dad, Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money --That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not! is Robert Kiyosaki's and Sharon Lechter's first best-selling book.It has been on The New York Times Best Seller List for five years and was USA Today's No. 1 money book for 2004. Given Robert Kiyosaki’s popularity, many readers may disagree with the opinions stated in this post. However, this is my unbiased thoughts on the book regardless of its popularity. The entire book is wrapped around a story of how he learnt, observed and distinguished two people making money; rich dad and the poor dad.(I wonder why this book wasn’t titled, “The tale of two dads”! ) His real dad who was highly educated, is called the "Poor Dad". The other, was his best friend Mike's dad, who was an entrepreneur with very little school education. Kiyosaki calls him the "Rich Dad". Browsing Through Rich Dad, Poor DadLesson 1: The Rich Don’t Work For MoneyThe book starts off by with some appeali...

Happy, Sad Or In-Between? Songs To Fit Every Mood, Moment, And Reason This
2008-02-14 17:19:00
On my way to work this morning, the radio played some really lovy dovy songs, one track after another, for quite a while. I double-checked the radio to make sure I was tuned onto my regular channel. After that batch of songs, came the commercials. Later, the DJ explained the logic behind the continuous love songs! In my moment of insanity, I forgot what day it was.So, today I am going to take a break from my normal blogging niche. Listed below are my recommendations for the "frame of mind", you currently are in, might have been in or will be, in the future! Regardless of where you are in the relationship spectrum (hopeless crush, 20th anniversary or sworn off love for good), there is a song out there that matches your situation like a needle to a groove. Which one is your story?Valentine ?s Day: Happily ever after You're Still the One By Shania TwainEveryday I Love You By BoyzoneThe Love I Found In You By Jim BrickmanThrough The Years By Kenny RogersValentine?s Day: "You are the...

The War Is Over; Man Understands Women
2008-02-11 04:19:00
About a week ago, a good friend of mine broke up with his girl friend of 3 years. There were many reasons for the break up, but he summed it up by saying, ?complicated practicalities?. I called him up last night to check up on him. It is hard enough going through a break-up but I suppose it is even more difficult when valentine day is around the corner. As expected he was feeling down and was full of self-pity. After complaining about his situation for several minutes, he sighed and said, ?I give up. I don?t understand women.?I bet he is not the only one. Men, through the ages have thrown up their hands in surrender, after battling one of womankind! So this post is something I put together, to help him and others, who are in similar situations. It is dedicated (but not limited) to those of you who will be spending this Valentine?s day drinking Bleach Schnapps and jumping off fire escapes! So You Wanna Understand Women ?I am aware that dealing with women is a topic of vital importance ...

This may be old news for some of you but I thought I would write a post for the benefit of those who may not know about it. After all, until today, I had no idea that things of this nature are happening around our blogging world! As a practice, I take time each morning to visit the blogs that have linked(trackbacked) to my blog/blog post. You must have noticed the bottom left sidebar link, "Blogs that link here". I like to see what others say about my blog. In the process, I do find some really worthy reads, which I add to my feedreader. Here I was, making my routine round trip when I came across a peculiar looking blog. I don’t want to make any blogging enemies, so I won’t mention the blog name. In spite of everything, this person did link to my blog! (If you are really interested, have a look at the blogs that have recently linked to Enhance Life. You should be able to figure it out yourself!) Your Inner CEO: Unleash The Executive Within
2008-01-31 05:32:00
It was really a pleasant surprise when I received an email from Allan Cox himself. He had stumbled upon Enhance Life, and the email contained several complements about the blog. Coming from a best-selling author, it really meant a lot to me. I was on a natural high that day! (I still haven?t deleted that email. Every time I need a boost of motivation, I read it.)That was not all. He asked for my address so that he could send a copy of his eighth book, Your Inner CEO: Unleash the Executive Within. Here was this great, accomplished author and he wanted to send "little me" his latest book. I couldn?t believe what I was reading! It was indeed very generous of him and I am truly grateful for the book. Allan Cox never asked for a review. However, I wanted to do something in return. I know this is not much, but here is my honest review of the book. "CEO, um.. I have a long way to go" were my initial thoughts based on the title. All that changed when I read the first sentence of the introduc...

If You Want To Be Understood.......
2008-01-28 04:34:00
On my way from work last Friday, the radio played the song I will always love you by Whitney Houston (This is not a post about love, keep reading!). I have heard this song several times before. In fact, this was played at a wedding I recently attended. Come to think of it, for many wedding occasions this song is an obvious choice. I was confused?. Bittersweet memoriesthat is all I'm taking with me.So, goodbye. Please, don't cry.We both know I'm not what you, you need. And I will always love you.I will always love you. If one examines the lyrics, the chorus is all lovy, dovy. However, I wouldn?t consider other parts of the song, appropriate for a wedding. I sure won?t be playing this song at my wedding! This song is several years old. Yet, in 2008, I finally figured out what the song is really about. How many years did it really take? Why am I bringing up this song and its lyrics? Well, I believe that song lyrics,(like many things!) we don?t listen to, well enough. To the people arou...
