Over Spending & Impulse Buying: 8 Reasons Why You?re Not To Blame
2008-09-29 04:30:00 I was returning from work Friday evening (I take the bus), when I overheard a conversation between two women (possibly co-workers heading home). One woman complimented the other on the blouse she was wearing. She smiled and responded, ?Glad you liked it. You know, I had to hide this from my husband. He would throw a fit if he knew how much I paid for this!?I am sure you can also relate to similar situations. Think back to the last time you spent money. Perhaps it was yesterday or even a few hours ago. Perhaps you can?t remember the last thing that you bought!Ask yourself the reason for making that spending decision. Did you buy something necessary such as groceries or medication? Was the item something you needed or just wanted at that moment? Did you worry about having enough money to pay for the item? Did the purchase cost more than you thought it should or did you even worry about the price? Did spending the money make you feel guilty or did it give you pleasure? At one point or a... Inspirational Quotes To Get You Through The Toughest Of Days
2008-09-04 05:29:00 In life, all of us experience passing moments of frustration, disappointment, and pain; there are times when things seems hopeless and pointless. No matter how hard we try to remain positive about certain situations, it can be a little depressing. At times, we may not have our loved ones around us to comfort us or give us the self assurance we need. Or we may not want to ?talk? about it. Inspirational quotes can be great asset when you feel this way. I have tried this myself and found it to be very effective. It is amazing how some quotes can help uplift even the most negative situation. There a few quotes I remember and recall on a daily basis. These quotes help me stay calm and collected (sane!!), amidst times of chaos. 1. When people pounce on your self-confidence"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent" ~Eleanor RooseveltOh, there are some people who really suck self-confidence right out of me! Humor Edition: What Dr.Phil, Britney Spears, Einstein (& Others) Had To Say
2008-09-01 17:48:00 In one my previous posts, I provided several ideas on how we can escape our daily monotonous routine. I thought I will take my own advice and apply it to this blog. So this is my attempt to take a break from the monotonous Enhance Life routine. Hope you enjoy the answers to this very old joke! Captain Kirk: To boldly go where no chicken has gone before.Dr.Phil : Well, we must first answer the question: how did the chicken feel about that?Einstein : Whether the chicken crossed the road or the road moved beneath the chicken is a matter of relativity.Britney Spears : Because it was not an egg, not yet a chicken.Sigmund Freud: The fact that you are at all concerned that the chicken crossed theroad reveals underlying insecurities that stem from your early relationships with your parents.Aristotle: It is the nature of chickens to cross the road.Albert Einstein: Whether the chicken crossed the road or the road crossed the chicken depends upon your frame of reference.Jack Nicholson: 'Cause... 7 Career Advancing Tips To build An Impeccable Relationship With Your Boss
2008-08-25 17:10:00 The relationship you have with your boss can be a major factor in determining your destination on the career ladder. It can be a wellspring of growth possibilities if nurtured properly or a career minefield if left to go sour. Thus, developing a good relationship with your boss is your best job skill and highly useful one, no matter where you work.Note: In order to be consistent, I will use the term ?boss? throughout the post. It can be interchanged with superior, manager etc. (Ideally, it is the person who you report to.)1. Be an asset to your bossYou need to be an asset to your boss, if you expect him/her to be an ally to you. Boss es seek individuals who are self motivated; one who gets the work done right and completed on time. This might seem like painfully obvious advice for developing a solid relationship with your boss, but it bears repeating. You need to understand that building good relationships won?t take you anywhere, without adequate job performance. 2. Observe and unde... More About: Relationship , Tips , Career , Build
DVD Clutter: How To De-Junk A DVD Collection
2008-08-18 04:57:00 There was a period of my life, where I used to buy about 2-3 DVDs each week. Sadly, I wasn?t wise and mature then! (I like to think that I am, now!) Anyway, over the years I have accumulated far too many DVDs. It has come to stage where it is taking more house space than it should. I was exploring some DVD organizing options and thought of sharing it on today?s post. The whole process took me about 45 minutes. Of course, the time taken for the process will depend on the volume of the DVD collection. If you are like me, one of these days you might also get hit by the ?DVD dilemma?. Whether it?s storing with cheap shipping boxes or using DVD binders, this process works! Do the inevitableI took all my DVDs and spread them on the floor. Now that I was able to ?see? all the DVDs, I realized that there were some DVDs that I only watched once. I had not watched these for years!Undoubtedly, if I am to get anywhere, I had to make some hard decisions. What DVDs am I likely to watch again?Which... More About: Junk , Clutter
Expectations: Is It A Human Weakness?
2008-08-11 04:33:00 I happen to catch a glimpse of CNN news this weekend. There were two stories, I couldn?t erase off my mind and it prompted me to write today?s post.1. Parents kill their 3 children and commit suicide. A couple poisoned their three young children, and then hung themselves from a ceiling fan because they were HIV-positive. (I wonder what went through the relatives minds when they stood by their caskets.)2. Father kills daughter over divorce. The police said the father was angry because he felt his daughter was disgracing the family! If I am to be cut and dry about these stories, I think it all revolves around expectations. First incident, the parents were depressed because they were not getting expected results from the medicine. Second, father?s expectations of his daughter (possibly, religious and cultural expectations). Isn?t it about how these people reacted to their expectations? In the context of self improvement, much has been said about attitude, goals, productivity etc. Rarely ... To a ?seasoned? professional, it might not be a big deal. But it is to me!In school, I was a shy kid with average grades. I don?t think, any of the straight A students thought I would be where I am today. I am still in touch with some of them, and I know my career stands out. (Yes, I am tooting my own horn! Do cut some slack. On a day like this, I think I am entitled to it!).So what got me to where I am today? (Obviously, it?s not my Einstein brilliance!) Below are 62 of the most powerful ?on the job? lessons in my life. Just because I wrote it here doesn?t mean that I excel in all these areas. But I try??. 12 Words and Phrases That Automatically Kill Your Self Image
2008-07-28 17:50:00 My mother was out of the country for a while and came last Thursday. We had a lot to catch up on. Once she finished relating her part of the world, I started giving an update of my life. After sometime, out of the blue, she made a rather alarming comment. Apparently, while I was talking she had counted the number of times I used the word ?like? (I am too embarrassed to mention the number!). My initial reaction was to deny it. My mind said, ?Yeah mum, nice to have you back!?. As I continued the conversation, every time I said the word ?like? she would also say it; over and over again. It sounded funny and we both started giggling. Painfully, I had to admit it. She was right; I was repeatedly using the word "like". The problem is none of us say these words intentionally. Some people don?t even notice they are even doing it (if my mother hadn?t pointed out, I would either). It has become a habit. So I did some reading on the subject and thought of sharing what I learned.Dangerous Word... More About: Words , Image , Kill , Phrases
10 Vital Actions To Inspire Others And Gain Respect
2008-07-21 17:46:00 Who and what we surround ourselves with, have a great deal to do with creating an environment that either champions us to be all we can be, or sabotages us in this effort.Over the years, I have been privileged to know some very inspiring people. They come from diverse backgrounds and wear an invisible ?inspiration cloak? of their own.Inspiring people have the ability to,Do something which capture our mind and stirs our heart.Inspire confidence.Inspire a self-generated force that motivates us to take action. For a long time, I wondered, "Wow, how does he/she manage to do it?" It took me some time to realize that inspiring others is NOT just some divine gift bestowed upon specific people; it?s a gift we all possess. There is a reason why people cheer at football matches, cry at funerals and laugh at jokes; we are all affected by each other. Your actions make a difference in my life and my actions make a difference in your life. As a result, certain vital actions CAN inspire and motivate... More About: Respect , Vital

Character: What Every Person Ought To Know
2008-06-30 16:13:00 Over the weekend I was reading The 21 Indispensable Qualities Of A Leader by John C.Maxwell. This book is loaded inspirational gems, and there was a specific chapter on character, which led me to write this post.1. Character goes beyond wordsAnyone can say that he has integrity, but action is the real indicator of character. Your character determines who you are. Who you are determines what you see. What you see determines what you do.~ John C.MaxwellIn other words, your thoughts and actions create habits, which become your character. 2. Character is a choiceWe have no control over a log of things in life. We don?t get to choose our parents. We don?t select the location or circumstances of our birth and upbringing? . But we do choose our character. In fact, we create it every tie we make choices to cop out or dig out of a hard situation, to bend the truth or stand under the weight of it, to take the easy money or pay the price. 6 Podcast Recommendations To Enhance Life
2008-06-23 12:04:00 Since of late I?ve been using my commute time for podcasts. While there are many podcasts I listen to, a few standout. I have benefited immensely from these, and I thought of sharing some of them with you.1. Grammar GirlWhen I was in school, I absolutely hated learning grammar! As the years progressed I realized that there was no escape from it! As a result, I was skeptical when I first heard about Grammar Girl podcasts. The fact that I can just listen to it (and not read grammar!) made me listen to that first Grammar Girl podcast. I was surprised because what I heard was definitely far from the "orthodox" way of teaching grammar!Grammar Girl provides short, friendly tips with good examples. Whether English is your first language or your second language, these grammar, punctuation, style and business tips will make you a better and more successful writer.2. The Benefits Of Uncertainty (Yes, You Read It Correct!)
2008-06-16 11:59:00 The world we live and work in is marked by unprecedented uncertainty. The certainty path is just one path (on most occasions). There?s undoubtedly a lot of exciting stuff on that plan. Then again, there are an infinite number of uncertainty paths, which might also be exciting! I am not a big fan of uncertainty myself. I like the plain old ?non-risky? certainty path. But despite its unpopularity, there are some benefits of uncertainty, even though we don?t realize it.1. Uncertainty is fun whenever you are in a receptive mood. Can you recall a situation where uncertainty brought you pleasure? For example, may be you wouldn?t have met your loved one, if it hadn?t been for [insert your reason here]. Or Say that on a recent trip to Seville you forgot your guidebook, headed for the old town and got a bit lost. But did you find some places you?d have never come across otherwise. And you got much more opportunity to use your Spanish. It was fun.2. Uncertainty will allow you to develop accept... More About: Read , Think Tank , Benefits
8 Ways To Ease Yourself Out Of Nosy Questions Without Being Rude
2008-06-09 11:35:00 If you have been reading my blog for a while, you would have noticed that I rarely talk about myself. I am no different in "real life" either. I consider myself to be a private person. My closest friends' and family, are the only ones that have the "inside scoop" on my personal life. So, you can imagine that I have a lot of experience fending off nosy questions! Most of the time when someone asks you a nosy question, you are caught off guard. It can make you annoyed, angry and even depressed. Think about it. If you have been working on your fitness and trying to loose weight for the past 3 months, and out of nowhere you meet an old colleague who asks, "Are you pregnant?"The list goes on..."Why were you laid off?""When are you two planning on getting married?""Is your daughter adapted?""How come you still are single?"I am sure that you can add a thing or two, as well! Money And Processions: Breaking Free From The Materialism Trap
2008-06-03 04:33:00 I was invited for a dinner by one of my friend?s last friday. Apart from the host, I didn?t know anyone there. I was left with no choice but to actually use some of the things I learned in The Winner?s Way! So there I was trying to make a liberated conversation. After some awkward moments of "Hi" and "What do you" I manage to strike conversation with a couple of people. I realized like me, they too were unknown to each other. Eventually our group got comfortable with each other. That?s when one guy brought up the subject of money. One subject that every one seemed to have an opinion about! He started out by making a witty remark about how low his salary was. Then everyone found the "me too" aspect of it, and was fueling the conversation. One person said that he would be happy if he could earn a salary, which would enable him to buy the things he wanted. For example, if he wanted 42 inch flat screen television, he should be in a comfortable position to buy that. Then another said, "If... More About: Finance , Money , Free , Trap , Breaking
Enhance Life Gets A Face-Lift; What Do You Think?
2008-05-31 14:28:00 As you might have noticed, I have made some drastic changes to the blog template. I am happy to say that I did this all by myself! (Ahem.. Including the graphics!) I plan on writing a series of posts to share my experience. I will reveal how I re-designed the blog template (and did the implementation) myself. Yes, I purposely used the word "myself" multiple times! I had to burn the late night candle on both ends to get this done. So it feels good now that its finally complete. So what do you think? Do you like the new template better than the one I had before? Changes Made - What I added #1. Header (Obviously!)I wanted to add a dash of the web 2.0 look and feel, which gave birth to the glossy header. When you look at it long enough, it sort of looks like candy you want to eat huh? 8 Stress-Busting, Spirit Lifting, Body-Boosting Ideas To Brighten Your Day
2008-05-14 18:56:00 1. Wake up to musicSometimes, a morning funk can ruin your entire day. So it is always best to start your day on a happy foot. Most of my life, I had a boring and annoying "beeping" alarm clock. When the alarm went off each morning, I always wished I had a few extra minutes to sleep! Things changed when I received a "sophisticated" radio as a birthday gift, for my 21st birthday. I can set the alarm to a radio station, a CD or even my own playlist.I generally have a couple of pre-created playlists. I load the playlist the previous night. It takes less than two minutes to choose one and set it up. Waking up to songs like "Manic Monday" on a Monday morning can really put a smile on your face! 2. Commute with musicI am sure most of you are already doing this. I wanted to add this anyway!3. Increase your productivity by listening to musicI don?t know how many of you have the liberty of listening to music while working. I do! My work mostly involves sitting in front of a computer.
