Give Yourself An Attitude Tune-Up
2008-05-05 18:06:00
Before you sigh and say, "Oh no, just another post on positive attitude", I need to say something. I am not here to tell you that if you have a positive attitude everything in your life will be fine.. "Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference." ~ Sir Winston Churchill* What were your first thoughts when you woke up this morning? Was it "Oh no, not another day." or "Hooray! It?s a new day". * Is the glass half empty or half full? Most self-help books/articles would ask such questions, and stamp a "positive" or "negative" on your answer. Do you want to know my answer? I agree with Larry Winget (author of Shut Up, Stop Whining, and Get a Life) when he says, "Who cares! What difference does it make if the glass is half full or half empty? What?s important is does it quench your thirst?"By no means am I saying attitude is not important. Attitude is important; As Larry Winget points out in his book, "It is not really about being positive or negative; it is about what works a...

8 Skinny Habits To Loose Weight Naturally
2008-04-28 05:02:00
A few weeks ago, one of my friends mentioned that she is considering taking a pill to reduce her weight. You must also have seen some convincing television advertisements that promise to get you in shape, and make look marvelous. I am generally not the type of person who falls for such things and, I couldn't believe that my friend was even considering such thing. I take pills (for ailments) only when the doctor forces it upon me! (If I can do without it, I would be the happiest.) So naturally, I was alarmed by what my friend said. I don't believe that there is a magic pill out there, which will reduce several dress sizes without any side effects!Over the past few weeks I have been reading a fair bit on weight loss. I wanted to find out whether there are easier, less painful ways to loose weight and keep it off. To be honest, I didn't learn anything new. They were all things I had heard before. However, I believe they are all timely reminders everyone can try and persist with.I ma...

Everyone Says It, Only A Few Talk About It
2008-04-21 04:32:00
A few years ago, my father was very ill and had to undergo brain surgery. It was emotionally a very difficult period for my family and me. Through out the ordeal, my colleagues at work and my friends were very supportive. At the time though, there were two common questions I had to deal with frequently."How is your father doing?""How are you coping?"I know that most people who asked those questions meant well. The painful truth was that my father wasn?t doing well. He had a progressive disease and every day it seem to get a little worse. Seeing my father suffer was oh so agonizing to watch. I felt empty. I felt angry. I felt alone. I had so many "Why Lord" questions. To my family, I put a steady front. They too were finding it difficult. I knew that I had to ?pull it together? for their sake. Even though I have many friends, I could only tell how I actually felt to two of my closest friends. To everyone else, I tried to force a smile and mutter something far away from the how I actua...

Motivation Boost To Keep You Strong-It Will Come

Poem By Nathan WatsonWhen life's largest pressures leave you struck dumb, Just search for an answer; the solution will come. When a tragedy occurs leaving you feeling numb, Just wait for your health; the strength will come. When everyone relies on you and there is no way you can see, Trust your mind to think with time; patience is the key. When you have made it where others always flee, Just wait to gather courage; soon you'll be where you want to be. When it is nearing the end and you're in need, Muster up your courage; endurance will lead. Give Up The Guilt. You’re Not A Bad Person
2008-04-14 17:02:00
Whether it is regretting that credit card splurge, agonizing about not returning your friend’s call or feeling remorse for not spending more time with your children or [insert your current guilty feeling here]... or worse...Guilt hovers over you like a dark cloud. Thoughts seem to have a mind of their own, intruding at all hours of the day. Chances are that sometimes we feel guiltier than the inmates of Wormwood Scrubs! So next time, the Judge Judy in your head goes into overdrive, follow these tips- and banish those bad feelings for good. (Well, I am trying to be positive here. Stay with me!)#1. Stop beating yourself upOk. So you might have not done the right thing when it was required, but that doesn’t make you a monster. Instead of punishing yourself, and focusing on all the terrible things you think you’ve done, remember some of your good deeds. #2. 6 Investment Misconceptions That Stop You From Becoming A Millionaire
2008-04-07 11:20:00
I hope you won’t find it surprising when I say that once upon a time, my knowledge on finance matters was nil (excuse: I hail from the field of software!) The little I knew, I learned from the basic accounting class, which was taught in school. After graduation, I got a steady job and along with it came an appealing paycheck. Little by little I managed to grow my savings and one day I realized that I have an attractive amount nicely sitting away in the bank. I spoke with one of my finance literate friend’s and was advice to invest the money. He used the word investment, and to me, it sounded like something only the rich do or something that only a skilled professional can do. My friend patiently explained to me in layman terms that, I need to make my money make more money for me. Now that got me interested. Here I was working 60 hours a week and I was dreaming how nice it would be to double my salary without actually working for it!Irrespective of how attractive that thought was,...

About Enhance Life
2008-04-04 12:16:00
Note: This post should have been written in the early days when I started blogging. However, at the time I wasn’t aware of the main constituents of a blog. I suppose it’s never too late to give you a glimpse of what this blog is and some details of who I am. So here goes..About Enhance Life One of the simple truths we all have to face up to as adults is that, our actions in the past have brought us to where we are today. Sometimes, to get things we want we do strange things. Sometimes, they work. Sometimes they don't. (And that's ok! If nobody tried anything new we’d be stuck with "the same old things" and that would make life boring.) I can say as we all do, I wish I had known then, what I know now. It might not have made all the difference all the time, but it would have made some of the difference, quite a lot of the time. So most of what I write here is based on my incidental gleanings. There's only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that's y...

Attitude Is Everything Or Is It?
2008-04-01 11:14:00
An excerpt from the book, The Winner's Way : A proven method for achieving your personal best in any situationAttitude is everything or so they say. Attitude is on everyone’s lips and everyone’s mind. We even have shorthand cue to spur ourselves and others on. "Get over it!" "What’s your problem", "What do you mean you just can’t do it?"Ask any kid playing on a sports field or competing in the classroom. They will tell you that attitude is the key. And they will probably tell you that you just have to get over yourself and do it. Still, in their hearts, they know it isn’t quite so simple. Pick up any book on improving your life. Whether it's in the personal or business realm, you will find more than a thousand and one ideas on how to change your attitude. Many of them say the same things –recite positive mantras and tell yourself you can do it. They include everything from looking in the mirror and mindlessly repeating that you like yourself to firing yourself up to sc...

It Doesn’t Cost Much To Consult With God
2008-03-21 15:35:00
Today is Good Friday and I thought it would be appropriate to write a post on spirituality. By birth or by choice, I assume that we all belong to some religion. Even if you are not Christian/Catholic I urge you to read on. This post is not specific to a religion. Rather, it’s about my observations, on the emphasis we place on religion. #1. God, takes a backseat in our livesStudies, work, additional income, technology, exercise, entertainment, family and friends.... Sometimes I feel 24 hours isn’t even sufficient to cater for all these. So is it a surprise that we have no ounce of time, for enriching our lives through religion? At the end of any day, we are so tired and can only think of sleep. I don’t know about you, but the instant I get to bed, I fall asleep! Basically, there is no time to have a conversation with God.#2. The more knowledgeable we get, the more we question our religion.Where knowledge ends, religion begins.Benjamin DisraeliWhen you were in kindergarten, adult...

How To Become A Total Failure (Book Review)
2008-03-17 03:00:00
In my lifetime, I think I might have read over 100 personal development books. They all promise to lead the road to success. How To Become A Total Failure - The Ten Rules of Highly Unsuccessful People (written by Bill Guillory and Phil Davis) stood out, purely because it didn’t make such claim. The book describes in detail the habits and attitudes of unsuccessful people. It gives appropriate examples to highlight how such habits and attitudes, negatively effect their environment. A Deeper Look At How To Become A Total FailureRule #1: Resist learning anything new that could lead to more responsibilityThe more you learn, the more people will expect. This chapter states the case by providing some funny yet educational examples of day-to-day life. Amongst these, is the story of how one author made French toast for breakfast! Not all examples are family related. There are a couple of stories from the corporate world as well. All in all, these examples highlight thatNew learning, one way...

Six Sources Of Procrastination
2008-03-14 08:56:00
An excerpt taken from the newsletter Leadership Wired-March 2008 By Dr. John C. Maxwell#1. We hesitate to do chores we don't enjoy. For me, yard work has always been draining. I don't find pleasure in it, and there's a million other things I'd rather spend my time doing. When I was first married, I would procrastinate mowing the lawn until it grew into a small jungle. I knew mowing would make my home look nice and would please my wife, but I abhorred giving it my time and attention.#2. We hesitate to do activities we aren't good at doing.I enjoy the arts, and I am fascinated by highly creative persons. However, I'm not particularly gifted in painting, drawing, or designing. That's why I avoid decorating. I enjoy a finely manicured Christmas tree, or an exquisitely decorated room, but I simply have no talent at making things look good. As a consequence, I will put off decorating as long as possible.#3. We hesitate to do what isn't on our agendas.Human nature tends to be set in...

Not Tonight Dear, I Have A Modem!
2008-03-10 11:20:00
The headline must have raised a few eyebrows for sure. It is a tagline from a famous movie! Guess! As funny as it may be, this might be actually happening to you. It may be not the exact “situation”, but I find that we spend more time on the internet and neglect the things and people that matter the most to us.Imagine this; you take your remaining leave to chill at home; Or may be you go on vacation to get away from it all. Yet, you still keep writing your blog, and staying up to date on what’s happening in the blogospehere. I know a blogger, who is blogging while he is on his honeymoon! (I wonder what his new wife thinks about it.) But hey, it’s a personal choice and I can’t dictate a "right" or "wrong".Wherever we go, there is always the tendency to stay connected. You get online, check mail, chat, read news etc… Before you know it, your day is over. You think to yourself... "my.... time flies, even when I am on holiday". Has that happened to you?Are you an internet ad...

Poem by Dr. Joe RubinoAfter all is said and doneAnd today is just a memoryWe will look and laughAnd nod and sighAnd think it strangeTo have tossed and worriedHoped and prayedFor so familiar an ending.Morning dawnsThe city risesSweeping out the cobwebs of the mindWith well-worn brooms. The moans of children off to schoolTo learn the ways to wipe the smiles off their faces.Along the windings of the streetsThe memories strive to lingerOf those who stood in fearIn stagnant and decaying livesNot knowing of their right to chooseBut opting to malinger. The midday sun is strong and brightFor those who seek to find the light. But for those in their hiding placesThe darkness tends to conceal all faces. The sun goes downAs dusk grows nearTurning memory into fear. The chance to do – again gone byWe turn... and climb the stair... and sigh.Too long day(He'll turn and say). She yawnsAnd nods her head.Evening's comeThe moon remindsWith such a grinThat wipes the laughter from your chinThe choice to ac...

2008-03-04 03:34:00
You might argue that "looking like it’s under control when it isn’t", is trying to act "fake". However, there are times in life, when you need to hide what you really feel and show a poker-face. This is especially true in the workplace.
