It's The Journey That's Important...
2007-08-14 10:28:00 By John McLeod Life, sometimes so wearying Is worth its weight in gold The experience of traveling Lends a wisdom that is old Beyond our 'living memory' A softly spoken prayer: "It's the journey that's important, Not the getting there!" Ins and outs and ups and downs Life's road meanders aimlessly? Or so it seems, but somehow Leads us where we need to be, And being simply human We oft question and compare.... "Is the journey so important Or the getting there?" And thus it's always been That question pondered down the ages By simple men with simple ways To wise and ancient sages.... How sweet then, quietly knowing Reaching destination fair: "It's the journey that's important, Not the getting there!" More About: Journey , The Journey , Poem , Import
Job Interview
2007-08-09 11:04:00 SourceReaching the end of a job interview, the Human Resources person asked the hotshot young Engineer, fresh out of MIT, "And what starting salary were you looking for?" The engineer cooly said, "In the neighborhoodof $125,000 a year, depending on the benefits package." The interviewer said, "Well, what would you say to a package of 5 weeks vacation, 14 paid holidays, full medical and dental, company matching retirement fund to 50% of salary, and a company car leased every 2 years for starters, say, a red Corvette?" The engineer tried to control his excitement, but sat straight up and said, "Wow! Are you kidding?" "Yeah," the interviewer shrugged, "But you started it." More About: Interview

First Break All Rules By Marcus Buckingham (Book Review)
2007-07-27 05:24:00 I finally got my hands on First, Break All The Rules . I know this book has been around for a long time. Unfortunately I didn?t get the opportunity to read it, until now.Overall, the book provided some new insights into selecting the right people, setting expectations, motivating, and developing them. Yes, there are millions of books that make that promise! However, I believe First, Break All The Rules is one book that actually made a great contribution. Chapter 1: Measuring StickGoes on to say, the strength of a workplace can be simplified to twelve questions. 1. Do I know what is expected of me at work?2. Do I have the materials and equipment I need to do my work right?3. At work, do I have the opportunity to do what I do best every day? 4. In the last seven days, have I received recognition or praise for doing good work?5. Does my supervisor, or someone at work, seem to care about me as a person?6. As You Travel Through Life?.
2007-07-23 10:20:00 By Author UnknownAs you travel through life there are always those times When decisions just have to be made, When the choices are hard, and solutions seem scarce, And the rain seems to soak your parade. There are some situations where all you can do Is simply let go and move on, Gather your courage and choose a direction That carries you toward a new dawn. So pack up your troubles and take a step forward - The process of change can be tough, But think about all the excitement ahead There might be adventures you never imagined Just waiting around the next bend, And wishes and dreams just about to come true In ways you can't yet comprehend! Perhaps you'll find friendships that spring from new things As you challenge your status quo, And learn there are so many options in life, Perhaps you'll go places you never expected And see things that you've never seen, Or travel to fabulous, faraway worlds And wonderful spots in between! Perhaps you'll find warmth and affection and caring ... More About: Life , Travel , Poem

Do You Know The Most Important Parameter For Building A Better Blog?
2007-07-07 18:52:00 Lately though, I have begun to notice that most of the advice given in these articles revolve around one key ?parameter?. What does that mean? Well, advice is all well and good? I do (But?. I don't): Decide To Be Decisive
2007-06-26 13:11:00 Life is a collection of continuous decisions. It can be simple as 'what time to get up in the morning', or 'what to wear to office today' or as complex as 'should I take a loan' or "should I buy the new car" etc. Here are a few guidelines that have proven to be useful to me.#1. What?s the objective? This is basically to establish why I am making the decision in the first place and what I intend to get out of it.#2.Gather all the necessary information Sometimes we are in groping in the dark since we don?t have the adequate information. Try as much as possible to get all facts together before the final verdict. #3.Worst case scenario?Evaluate the probable consequences of each decision. Would I be able to live with it, if in case reality turns ugly?#4. Weigh your options Seeing things on paper, goes a long way towards finding perspective. The traditional list of pro?s and con?s will do wonders. Or it can even be a creative sketch. Use what ever that works for you.#5. Ask for advic... More About: Cide

Moments In Life
2007-06-19 05:22:00 Author UnknownThere are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them for real! When the door of happiness closes, another opens; but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the one, which has been opened for us. Don't go for looks; they can deceive. Don't go for wealth; even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you smile, because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright. Find the one that makes your heart smile. Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do. May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to make you happy. The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. The brightest future wil... More About: Life , Poem , Moments

Building A Better Business (Book Excerpt)
2007-06-05 05:40:00 Building a better worldJust that.... in what ever way you choose. Each of us is unique, and building a better world also means different things at various stages of life, but it?s essentially about a better life in some way for yourself, or perhaps for those you care for, for family and friends, or for the community you live in and beyond.Everything you have ever done from the day you were born, from taking a sip of water to solving a problem or ?saving the world?, is related to this universal human desire for a better life. Improvement is the key- even if this is just your own feeling of satisfaction and fulfillment, or may be personal comfort right now as you adjust your position slightly while reading this book.Related Posts80/20 Individual By Richard Koch (Book Excerpt)The Heart Of A Leader By Ken BlanchardReaching Your Potential By Norman Vincent Peale More About: Business , Building , Books , Build
Places To Fish And Find Great Blog Post Ideas
2007-06-02 05:14:00 Since I started blogging, one question that I am often asked is, "How do you get ideas to write?"One of the toughest things that I encounter as a blogger, is the fact that I need to find great ideas. A post idea that will make the reader?s time worth while; one that will make a difference; An idea that will enhance your life. A very tough ask! I try my best, and you bare witness to it ;-)Do you wonder how my little brain(yes, I have one! But I sometimes wonder!) comes up with what I write? It is no secret anymore, here it is.1. Get floating thoughts out of your head and into your postIf you are to execute this eloquently, you NEED to have a notebook and a pen with you at all times! Write about anything that comes to your mind, however stupid you may think it is! Not much of that goes into my posts, as soon as it is written. I ask myself, "What more should I add to make this a blog post?" With time, I build upon the things I have jotted down. Examples:Why Do Smart People Do Stupid Th... Happiness Is Voyage
2007-05-29 14:08:00 (Source:email, I don't know who the actual author is)We convince ourselves that life will be better once we are married, have a baby, then another. Then we get frustrated because our children are not old enough, and that all will be well when they are older. Then we are frustrated because they reach adolescence and we must deal with them. Surely we?ll be happier when they grow out of the teen years. We tell ourselves our life will be better when our spouse gets his/her act together, when we have a nicer car, when we can take a vacation, when we finally retire. The truth is that there is no better time to be happy than right now. If not, then when? Your life will always be full of challenges. It is better to admit as much and to decide to be happy in spite of it all.For the longest time, it seemed that life was about to start. Real life. But there was always some obstacle along the way, an ordeal to get through, some work to be finished, some time to be given, a bill to be paid. Then l... More About: Happiness , Poem , Ness , Voyage
If It Is Meant To Be ? It Will Be
2007-05-29 05:20:00 You went for a job interview that you really wanted. A few days later, you get a rejection letter. Your mother says, ?If It Is Meant To Be ? It Will Be?You think you are in love. You feel you?ve met the perfect match, until she announces that she only wants to be ?just friends?. Then, your best friend says (Among other things!), ?If It Is Meant To Be ? It Will Be?. You want to start your own business. You apply for a bank loan. Your request is denied. Your wife says, ?If It Is Meant To Be ? It Will Be?.Your grandmother buys lottery tickets with the hope of winning the jackpot. She complains to you about not being lucky. You tell her, ?If It Is Meant To Be ? It Will Be?. :-)I can come up with more examples. However, I think I will rest my imagination, for now.So, tell me, has anyone every said that to you? At the time, did you feel like punching the person? :-) I am sure they all meant well. We find it so hard to believe. We keep asking ?why?. We keep analyzing what went wrong.Years...

The Strongest Principle Of Growth Lies In Human Choice
2007-05-19 18:04:00 John Wesley recently wrote an intriguing article on Balancing the present and the future. Here is a glimpse of the article.Consider some of the choices that impact our lives on a daily basis:Do I stay up late hanging out with friends, or go to sleep and be productive tomorrow?Do I eat out because it?s easy, or cook at home and save money?Should I work late and get ahead, or enjoy the beautiful spring weather? Each of these choices boils down to a simple question. Do I want to enjoy the present moment or plan for the future? These are all difficult decisions because both answers have their merits. The present moment is fleeting and immediate, while the future is constantly hanging overhead. Part of us is constantly begging for indulgence while another part is worried that we?re falling behind and won?t be able to recover.I couldn?t agree more. We are constantly hunted by choices. Some are easier than others. A few, you wish you never had to make! Often, I feel that we are overloaded w... More About: Human , Growth , Choice , Uman , Tron

Are We There Yet?
2007-05-14 10:27:00 I was traveling by bus a couple of days ago, when I got this post idea. What inspired me to write this post was a little talkative boy, who was seated in front of me. I think he must have been around 4 or 5 years old. This little fellow, was fascinated by the vehicles that passed by. Each time our bus, passed a vehicle he would say Car, Van etc to the person sitting next to him. I assumed it was his mum. After while, as with most children that age, he got bored and started asking his mum, ?Are we there yet??. Then his mum would try to explain that we had a long way to go. That kept his silent for a while. But not for long. Again, he asked, ?Are we there yet?? . This time the mum explain that we first need to reach town A, then go to town B, then town C etc and finally the destination. Of course that didn?t stop the little boy from asking the questions. However, this time his question was different. He asked ?Have we reached town A??. Obviously, he was a smart little one! This incid... More About: Here , There
80/20 Individual By Richard Koch (Book Excerpt)
2007-05-12 18:35:00 To thine own self be true-but to which self should you be true to?The self that spends a huge amount of time and sweat getting nowhere? The self that engages in destructive patters o behavior? The self that follows the crowd (all of us, saints and lunatics only excepted, spend much or most of our time conforming to the dictates of others)? Our automatic self? The self that achieves nothing out of the ordinary? The self that could just as well not be a self at all?No. The self to which we must be true is our really distinctive and productive self, our unique self, our imaginative, positive and creative self, the 20% or less of ourselves that contribute more than 80% of our impact and happiness.First we have to find this self, to be aware of the powerful vital few characteristics within ourselves. Then we have to nurture and grow this 20%. Only then can we use it to make the world and ourselves richer.Related postsRe-imagine By Tom Peters(Book Review) Essential Drucker (Book Review) More About: Books , Individual , Al B , Richard

Face The Facts; The Ex-Files
2007-05-05 10:45:00 This post is based on The Tyra Banks Show; A television talk show, similar to Oprah Winfrey. This particular show I am referring to, was a slight deviation from the regular topics they discuss. From what I gathered Face the Facts - the Ex-Files , was an attempt to revisit previous relationships in order to find out ?what went wrong? or rather to answer the question ?why do I always get dumped?.Tyra (the hostess) interviewed three women. I can?t imagine why they agreed to be on television and publicly discuss the relationship along with their ex?s! May be they were temporarily out of their mind! Or may be they were paid handsomely. Hm? I wouldn?t know!Your too controlling, protective, insensitive, jealous etc etc The usual ex-relationship banter was the outcome of the discussions. Anyway, it was entertaining to watch! I wonder what the participants felt like hearing the negative feedback. It didn?t end there. They were also given professional help by Dr. Michelle. This show seemed in ... More About: X-Fi , X-Files
