Come To Understand (An Inspirational Poem To Begin The Week)
2008-07-07 16:08:00
Author unknownLife grows brighter when you come to understand. Live with a love and thankfulness for life, and your understanding of it will become more valuable.Come to understand that the other people in your world have perspectives, purposes and priorities that are different than yours. It will save you from a lot of needless frustration and anger.Come to understand that loss is a part of life. And you always have every reason and ability to heal.Come to understand that giving and receiving are always inseparable. The level of abundance you experience is equal to the value and goodness flowing out from you.Come to understand that sometimes the most powerful response is patience. There are many battles you do not really need to fight.Come to understand that whatever may have been or wherever you may find yourself, you always have a choice. Choose to live each moment with positive purpose, and you will truly come to understand.Related PostsMotivation Boost To Keep You Strong-It Wil...

Character: What Every Person Ought To Know
2008-06-30 16:13:00
Over the weekend I was reading The 21 Indispensable Qualities Of A Leader by John C.Maxwell. This book is loaded inspirational gems, and there was a specific chapter on character, which led me to write this post.1. Character goes beyond wordsAnyone can say that he has integrity, but action is the real indicator of character. Your character determines who you are. Who you are determines what you see. What you see determines what you do.~ John C.MaxwellIn other words, your thoughts and actions create habits, which become your character. 2. Character is a choiceWe have no control over a log of things in life. We don?t get to choose our parents. We don?t select the location or circumstances of our birth and upbringing? . But we do choose our character. In fact, we create it every tie we make choices to cop out or dig out of a hard situation, to bend the truth or stand under the weight of it, to take the easy money or pay the price. As you live your life and make choices today, you are c...

6 Podcast Recommendations To Enhance Life
2008-06-23 12:04:00
Since of late I?ve been using my commute time for podcasts. While there are many podcasts I listen to, a few standout. I have benefited immensely from these, and I thought of sharing some of them with you.1. Grammar GirlWhen I was in school, I absolutely hated learning grammar! As the years progressed I realized that there was no escape from it! As a result, I was skeptical when I first heard about Grammar Girl podcasts. The fact that I can just listen to it (and not read grammar!) made me listen to that first Grammar Girl podcast. I was surprised because what I heard was definitely far from the "orthodox" way of teaching grammar!Grammar Girl provides short, friendly tips with good examples. Whether English is your first language or your second language, these grammar, punctuation, style and business tips will make you a better and more successful writer.2. Boagworld is a long running web design podcast. They offer great interviews with experts from the field of web design. The cont...

The Benefits Of Uncertainty (Yes, You Read It Correct!)
2008-06-16 11:59:00
The world we live and work in is marked by unprecedented uncertainty. The certainty path is just one path (on most occasions). There?s undoubtedly a lot of exciting stuff on that plan. Then again, there are an infinite number of uncertainty paths, which might also be exciting! I am not a big fan of uncertainty myself. I like the plain old ?non-risky? certainty path. But despite its unpopularity, there are some benefits of uncertainty, even though we don?t realize it.1. Uncertainty is fun whenever you are in a receptive mood. Can you recall a situation where uncertainty brought you pleasure? For example, may be you wouldn?t have met your loved one, if it hadn?t been for [insert your reason here]. Or Say that on a recent trip to Seville you forgot your guidebook, headed for the old town and got a bit lost. But did you find some places you?d have never come across otherwise. And you got much more opportunity to use your Spanish. It was fun.2. Uncertainty will allow you to develop accept...

8 Ways To Ease Yourself Out Of Nosy Questions Without Being Rude
2008-06-09 11:35:00
If you have been reading my blog for a while, you would have noticed that I rarely talk about myself. I am no different in "real life" either. I consider myself to be a private person. My closest friends' and family, are the only ones that have the "inside scoop" on my personal life. So, you can imagine that I have a lot of experience fending off nosy questions! Most of the time when someone asks you a nosy question, you are caught off guard. It can make you annoyed, angry and even depressed. Think about it. If you have been working on your fitness and trying to loose weight for the past 3 months, and out of nowhere you meet an old colleague who asks, "Are you pregnant?"The list goes on..."Why were you laid off?""When are you two planning on getting married?""Is your daughter adapted?""How come you still are single?"I am sure that you can add a thing or two, as well! For each person the questions rub a different sensitive point. On the other hand for some of you, these questions may...

Money And Processions: Breaking Free From The Materialism Trap
2008-06-03 04:33:00
I was invited for a dinner by one of my friend?s last friday. Apart from the host, I didn?t know anyone there. I was left with no choice but to actually use some of the things I learned in The Winner?s Way! So there I was trying to make a liberated conversation. After some awkward moments of "Hi" and "What do you" I manage to strike conversation with a couple of people. I realized like me, they too were unknown to each other. Eventually our group got comfortable with each other. That?s when one guy brought up the subject of money. One subject that every one seemed to have an opinion about! He started out by making a witty remark about how low his salary was. Then everyone found the "me too" aspect of it, and was fueling the conversation. One person said that he would be happy if he could earn a salary, which would enable him to buy the things he wanted. For example, if he wanted 42 inch flat screen television, he should be in a comfortable position to buy that. Then another said, "If...

Enhance Life Gets A Face-Lift; What Do You Think?
2008-05-31 14:28:00
As you might have noticed, I have made some drastic changes to the blog template. I am happy to say that I did this all by myself! (Ahem.. Including the graphics!) I plan on writing a series of posts to share my experience. I will reveal how I re-designed the blog template (and did the implementation) myself. Yes, I purposely used the word "myself" multiple times! I had to burn the late night candle on both ends to get this done. So it feels good now that its finally complete. So what do you think? Do you like the new template better than the one I had before? Changes Made - What I added #1. Header (Obviously!)I wanted to add a dash of the web 2.0 look and feel, which gave birth to the glossy header. When you look at it long enough, it sort of looks like candy you want to eat huh? Well, you must understand my mentality. It took me about two months to get the images and the blog design done. No, I didn?t work on this full time. You can now click on the header image and it will redirec...

8 Stress-Busting, Spirit Lifting, Body-Boosting Ideas To Brighten Your Day
2008-05-14 18:56:00
1. Wake up to musicSometimes, a morning funk can ruin your entire day. So it is always best to start your day on a happy foot. Most of my life, I had a boring and annoying "beeping" alarm clock. When the alarm went off each morning, I always wished I had a few extra minutes to sleep! Things changed when I received a "sophisticated" radio as a birthday gift, for my 21st birthday. I can set the alarm to a radio station, a CD or even my own playlist.I generally have a couple of pre-created playlists. I load the playlist the previous night. It takes less than two minutes to choose one and set it up. Waking up to songs like "Manic Monday" on a Monday morning can really put a smile on your face! 2. Commute with musicI am sure most of you are already doing this. I wanted to add this anyway!3. Increase your productivity by listening to musicI don?t know how many of you have the liberty of listening to music while working. I do! My work mostly involves sitting in front of a computer. Usually ...

I am happy to announce that you can now view this site on it own domain, www.TheEnhanceLife.com. It has definitely taken me a long time to switch to a custom domain. I finally decided it was time I took the plunge. Why I decided to shift to a custom domain1. Over the past few months the hours I spent writing a post has increased, beyond my wildest imagination(No, no not for this post!). I have come to a point where I consider blogging an enjoyable hobby; something I plan on doing for a while. 2. I want to build more credibility and a sense of professionalism around my blog. I didn?t think having a blogspot extension would measure up.3. I like to create a brand. Something to call my own! Factors I Considered when Choosing a Domain NameGosh, this was very difficult! I think naming a baby would have been much easier!1. Blog TitleI wanted to go with EnhanceLife.com unfortunately this was already taken. Give Yourself An Attitude Tune-Up
2008-05-05 18:06:00
Before you sigh and say, "Oh no, just another post on positive attitude", I need to say something. I am not here to tell you that if you have a positive attitude everything in your life will be fine.. "Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference." ~ Sir Winston Churchill* What were your first thoughts when you woke up this morning? Was it "Oh no, not another day." or "Hooray! It?s a new day". * Is the glass half empty or half full? Most self-help books/articles would ask such questions, and stamp a "positive" or "negative" on your answer. Do you want to know my answer? I agree with Larry Winget (author of Shut Up, Stop Whining, and Get a Life) when he says, "Who cares! What difference does it make if the glass is half full or half empty? What?s important is does it quench your thirst?"By no means am I saying attitude is not important. Attitude is important; As Larry Winget points out in his book, "It is not really about being positive or negative; it is about what works a...

8 Skinny Habits To Loose Weight Naturally
2008-04-28 05:02:00
A few weeks ago, one of my friends mentioned that she is considering taking a pill to reduce her weight. You must also have seen some convincing television advertisements that promise to get you in shape, and make look marvelous. I am generally not the type of person who falls for such things and, I couldn't believe that my friend was even considering such thing. I take pills (for ailments) only when the doctor forces it upon me! (If I can do without it, I would be the happiest.) So naturally, I was alarmed by what my friend said. I don't believe that there is a magic pill out there, which will reduce several dress sizes without any side effects!Over the past few weeks I have been reading a fair bit on weight loss. I wanted to find out whether there are easier, less painful ways to loose weight and keep it off. To be honest, I didn't learn anything new. They were all things I had heard before. However, I believe they are all timely reminders everyone can try and persist with.I ma...

Everyone Says It, Only A Few Talk About It
2008-04-21 04:32:00
A few years ago, my father was very ill and had to undergo brain surgery. It was emotionally a very difficult period for my family and me. Through out the ordeal, my colleagues at work and my friends were very supportive. At the time though, there were two common questions I had to deal with frequently."How is your father doing?""How are you coping?"I know that most people who asked those questions meant well. The painful truth was that my father wasn?t doing well. He had a progressive disease and every day it seem to get a little worse. Seeing my father suffer was oh so agonizing to watch. I felt empty. I felt angry. I felt alone. I had so many "Why Lord" questions. To my family, I put a steady front. They too were finding it difficult. I knew that I had to ?pull it together? for their sake. Even though I have many friends, I could only tell how I actually felt to two of my closest friends. To everyone else, I tried to force a smile and mutter something far away from the how I actua...

6 Investment Misconceptions That Stop You From Becoming A Millionaire

I hope you won?t find it surprising when I say that once upon a time, my knowledge on finance matters was nil (excuse: I hail from the field of software!) The little I knew, I learned from the basic accounting class, which was taught in school. After graduation, I got a steady job and along with it came an appealing paycheck. Little by little I managed to grow my savings and one day I realized that I have an attractive amount nicely sitting away in the bank. I spoke with one of my finance literate friend?s and was advice to invest the money. He used the word investment, and to me, it sounded like something only the rich do or something that only a skilled professional can do. My friend patiently explained to me in layman terms that, I need to make my money make more money for me. Now that got me interested. Here I was working 60 hours a week and I was dreaming how nice it would be to double my salary without actually working for it!Irrespective of how attractive that thought was, tha...

About Enhance Life
2008-04-04 12:16:00
Note: This post should have been written in the early days when I started blogging. However, at the time I wasn?t aware of the main constituents of a blog. I suppose it?s never too late to give you a glimpse of what this blog is and some details of who I am. So here goes..About Enhance Life One of the simple truths we all have to face up to as adults is that, our actions in the past have brought us to where we are today. Sometimes, to get things we want we do strange things. Sometimes, they work. Sometimes they don't. (And that's ok! If nobody tried anything new we?d be stuck with "the same old things" and that would make life boring.) I can say as we all do, I wish I had known then, what I know now. It might not have made all the difference all the time, but it would have made some of the difference, quite a lot of the time. So most of what I write here is based on my incidental gleanings. There's only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that's your ow...
