Graduation
2008-05-11 06:10:00
From left to right: My sister, brother, me. My brother graduated high school today.I have to wonder: where does time go? It was just yesterday I was holding him in my arms and tickling him, listening to his little laugh. Now, he's going off to college in August. We're a close-knit family, and though I am happy he's going off and starting his life, I'm going to miss him terribly.*sniffles*

He's given his fans a sneak peek of one of his new songs, titled "Taking On Water "...for now. Whatever it's titled, it's absolutely beautiful.Take a listen.:)P.S. John, you've done it again. :D

It is known amongst my friends and family that I am one of the biggest movie buffs in the entire world. This will be the summer of awesome, as far as movies are concerned. Each day, I will post a movie I am looking forward to seeing this summer. Here's the first:1. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince CaspianI loved the first movie. So of course, I am wanting to see the second. My brother read the book and said it was the best out of the series. Hope the movie will live up to his praise of the book!Comes out: May 16

Sonnet 144
2008-04-26 16:09:00
I love Shakespeare. In fact, while I was in college, I was a Creative Writing minor, and took several classes on Shakespeare. My professor was a soft-spoken woman, but I could tell she had an incredible passion for the Bard. Some call him a plagarist. I learned from my classes that back in the Elizabethan era, mimicking someone else's work, and tweaking it, improving on it, was actually the highest form of praise. True, Shakespeare did that a lot on his plays, but his poetry...no.While perusing the Internet, I was trying to remember the title of my favorite sonnet. So I typed in a line, and got back Sonnet 144:Two loves I have of comfort and despair, Which like two spirits do suggest me still:* The better angel is a man right fair, The worser spirit a woman colour'd ill. To win me soon to hell*, my female evil Tempteth my better angel from my side, And would corrupt my saint to be a devil, Wooing his purity with her foul pride. And whether that my angel be turn'd f...

I've never once broken a bone. Not ever.Everyone in my family has broken something: my mom's broken her foot, arm, and toes; my dad, multiple bones; my brother, his nose; my sister, her arm and her toe (that was my fault...left my big size 12 shoes out in the hallway and she tripped over them).Ask anyone, and I am the biggest klutz in the world. I trip over everything and anything. Hell, I've even tripped down STAIRS and came out unscathed.I think I'm pretty strange. But I've never broken a bone.Knock on wood...

Very, very nice to achieve goals.
2008-04-13 08:26:00
What I'll be seeing John Mayer doing on 7/3/2008 at the Verizon Wireless Ampitheatre in Maryland Heights.I love achieving goals.Everyone has their major and their minor goals they want to achieve in their life, whether it be as simple as wanting a hamburger for lunch, or as large as achieving a high-ranking position in a company. My major goals in life were to graduate from college and be working. I've achieved both of these goals.Another one of my goals was to see Nickelback live. Been there, done that. Now, I am going to achieve one of my other goals: I'm going to see John Mayer, live. From what I hear, he puts on a great show. And to top it all off, I'm in the right section, row K. The seat, spectacular. The view, spectacular. This is going to be something I'll remember for the rest of my life. You hear that, John? I'm coming to see you live.Hopefully, I'll win a chance to meet you at the eat-and-greet as well. But that's a story for another time.

Okay, so I check to see how my blog is doing at times. Call me self-indulgent...I'm just curious. I like people looking at my site and reading what I term to be my useless and inane thoughts. So I went to www.addme.com, and clicked on Site Popularity . I looked through the links, and saw some other blog linked to one of my posts I wrote back in June of 2007, my post about quarter-life crisis:http://www.zandria.us/archives/mai n/2007/07/I'm so excited to see that some people out there in the WWW read what I have to say. Whether they like it or not, remains to be seen. Either way, I'm cool with it. :)
Loreena McKennitt

I suppose the reason why I love her music SO MUCH is that I am part Irish. Irish/French/Russian, but anyway, yes. The woman has a gorgeous, soothing voice that puts me entirely at peace. God truly touched her with extraordinary talent.I was perusing youtube, and I found this picture video, set to my favorite song of hers, "Dante's Prayer." You need to watch this, and listen to this song. I hope her voice and words have the same peaceful, healing quality for you as they do for me.

I love the show "Gone Country." Basically, here's what it's about: John Rich, of the MuzikMafia and the country group Big and Rich, took seven people: Maureen McCormick, Carnie Wilson, Diana DeGarmo, Dee Snider, Bobby Brown, Sisqo, , and Julio Iglesias, Jr., and they get to experience country living. They are also competing for the grand prize...Rich sees who can "make it" in country music. It's quite the interesting show. It's on CMT, on Fridays, at 8 pm/7 pm CST.

something ridiculous.
2007-08-11 05:47:00
I thought this was a joke when I clicked on this news story. But no, this is actually serious....HOUSTON (Aug. 10) -- A married man is suing 1-800-Flowers for $1 million for revealing that he was cheating on his wife.Leroy Greer said in a lawsuit filed this week in a federal court in Texas that he bought flowers for his girlfriend through 1-800-Flowers. He asked to keep his purchase private.Greer said he was referred to the company's privacy policy, which states that customers can ask 1-800-Flowers not to share personal information with "third parties."But, the lawsuit says, 1-800-Flowers sent a thank-you note to his house and his wife saw it. When she called the company, 1-800-Flowers faxed her a copy of the receipt from Greer's secret purchase. The receipt revealed that Greer had sent another woman a dozen long-stemmed red roses, along with a note that read, "Just wanted to say that I love you and you mean the world to me!" according to court documents. The couple was already goi...

Nickelback, here I come!
2007-08-09 01:23:00
I was lucky to see Matchbox Twenty in concert, about four years ago. That was one of my goals, to see them. Another one of my goals is to see John Mayer in concert, as well as meet him. That hasn't happened yet, but I'm sure it will in time. Now, another one of my goals has been reached. I am getting to see a VERY favorite band of mine in concert, Nickel back . Have been a fan of their's since 2001, and I say this: it's about time! :D
my theory
2007-08-07 22:51:00
I have an odd theory. So just bear with me while I test the waters.I have a theory that you can tell a lot about a person by the type of music that they listen to. Here is my iTunes iPod list of the Top 25 songs I like to listen to:Just in case you're not able to see it, I listen to a wide variety of music. Country, rap, blues, 80s music (I am an 80s child), rock, you name it. I even listen to classical. So I like to think I'm pretty open-minded.That way with movies, too. But that's a post for another time.

the real world...
2007-08-05 06:17:00
I like to think a lot about this term..."the real world." Especially since I will be graduating college in the fall, and will soon be entering "the real world."I took a philosophy class once, called Knowledge and Real ity; something the professor said stood out in my mind: "What is real? Is it what our brain processes? Is it what we perceive to be real? What is real for us may not be real for others."How true this is. My reality is most definitely not other people's reality. I realize how lucky my life has been, and how I've had people supporting me and encouraging me all throughout my journey to get to my goal of becoming a teacher. To those people, I give my thanks.

Joker's wild.
2007-07-22 06:25:00
What The Joker will look like in the new Batman movie, coming out in 2008 [The Dark Knight].Now, I loved this reboot of the Batman series. It was Batman the way it was MEANT to be done: Batman was scary, and badass. I also like the choosing of the villians, and how they look REAL, not comic book-y.The Joker will be played by Heath Ledger, who is a good actor [when he wants to be]. I am curious to see how he'll do as someone evil...P.S. Yes, I read the entire Harry Potter book in one sitting. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix: review
2007-07-18 07:21:00
I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan. I was a fan of the movies before I read the books, but since I read the books, I appreciated those as well. The other four movies have not disappointed me, and I knew that this one would not. I saw OotP the day after it came out, and the two hours and eighteen minutes completely passed by. It followed the book very well, and I loved the performances from Imelda Staunton [Dolores Umbridge], and Michael Gambon [he got Dumbledore's personality from the book spot on]. Daniel Radcliffe [as Harry], does well, as always, but in this movie, you can see how much he's grown.Five out of five stars, and I can't wait for it to come out to DVD.

Guitar Hero: the most addictive game on the planet.
2007-07-16 04:51:00
Whenever I talk to a guy and I tell him I like to play PS2 games, this is the response I get: "Really?" As if this is some kind of an anomaly. C'mon, there's got to be other girls out there who like to play PS2 games, right?Anywho, I guess I'm a self-professed gamer. I love the Metal Gear game series [have played and beaten them all]; the Godfather game rocked [loved the movie and decided to buy and play the game]. I have a soft spot for the Lego Star Wars games [so funny...I laughed my butt off while playing them]. And recently, I beat Indigo Prophecy, which is quite a good story game. But the most fun game thus far has to be Guitar Hero . Or Guitar Hero II, actually.I recently bought it in a package that has the controller and the game for 79.92, which is cheaper than going and buying it separately...just so you know. :) And I have to tell you, this game is like crack. Who needs drugs when you have Guitar Hero. *laughs* The only part of the game I have not yet beaten is Free Bird...

Land of Confusion.
2007-07-11 08:52:00
What's the first thing you think of when you think of the song "Land of Confusion ?" Well, here's the first thing I think of:Yes, the music video. With all the weird puppets and all that jazz. Gosh, I remember when this video came on MTV...it kinda freaked me out. Hey, I was only four! But I managed to get used to it, and started watching it 'cause I thought the puppets were funny. When I was old enough to understand what the song meant, now that I listen to it...I realize this song is a statement against the state of the nation. And a pretty damn good one, too. Using the weird puppets in the video was a very clever idea to get the statement across. I love this song.Don't believe me about the lyrics? Here, look:I must've dreamed a thousand dreamsBeen haunted by a million screamsI can hear the marching feetThey're moving into the streetNow did you read the news todayThey say the danger's gone awayBut I can see the fire's still alightBurning into the nightToo many menToo many pe...
Mad Libs.
2007-07-10 07:33:00
I love these things. I remember when I was a kid, I used to order them all the time from the book orders at school. I STILL love them. They amuse me very muchly. :)I did one on this website: http://www.madlibs.org and it made me laugh. This was called Eleanor Rigby Mad Lib; the bolded words are the words I chose: Ah, look at all the red jackhammers!Ah, look at all the red jackhammers! Mirabella Gregory picks up the tin can in a grocery store where a Olympics has been.chew in a light bulb. sigh at the cloud, wearing the gym sock that she keeps in a ceiling by the slingshot. Who is it for? All the red jackhammers, where do they all come from? All the red jackhammers, where do they all glare?Try some Mad Libs. They're good for boredom. :)
7.7.07...luckiest day of the year? Yeah, right.
2007-07-08 00:18:00
Everyone on the new has been gushing about 7.7.07, and how it's the luckiest day of the year. Normally, I'd agree with them, but not today, because my monthly bill came today [all you women know what I'm talking about...maybe a few of you guys as well]. Now, how is this the luckiest day of the year/century for me?If someone asks how I spent my 7.7.07, I'll say, "With a heating pad on, hopped up on caffeine and ginger tea." Ginger tea, by the way, is the nastiest crap I've ever tasted!Oh, another thing...that STUPID Always slogan: "Have a happy period." The packages are even flowered now. Question: since when are periods a happy thing? I cramp. I bloat. I'm crabby. I mean, come on.

Seinfeld: Best show in the world. Period.
2007-07-06 07:03:00
Seinfeld is the best show in the entire world. The best show there ever was, or ever will be.I never watched it while it was on the air, because I was too young to get the jokes and such. My mom is the reason I like this show, and she got me seasons 1 and 2 on DVD one Christmas.I was hooked.Basically, it's a show about nothing, and that's what makes it so funny. Here is a website with Seinfeld quotes from all 138 episodes that I found to be rather interesting: Seinfeld quotesIf you have never seen this show...get the DVDs! Or catch it on reruns. You won't be disappointed. :)
