A dramatic declaration by little-known Al Queda Hind, claiming to be a chapter of Al Qaida, of a 'holy war' against India put security agencies on their toes as they began investigating the antecedents of the outfit and its links with jehadi organisations. While the initial assessment of intelligence officials in New Delhi and Srinagar was that Al Queda Hind is an unknown entity, the possibility of any links with well-known Qaida associates like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba is being investigated. In July last year, a similar threat had been made in Srinagar and the call was ultimately traced to downtown Srinagar. Karaikal Struggle Group (KSG), an organisation fighting for Union Terri tory status for Karaikal enclave of Puducherry, has requested the Centre to send a fact finding team to study the "discrimination" faced by the area. Ramasrinivasan, the founder member of the non-political organisation, alleged that Karaikal region was being neglected by the Puducherry Government. "It is against the spirit of the Treaty of Cession of French Establishments, which was signed on 28-05-1956 by Government of India and France," he said. The treaty said the people of Karaikal would contine to enjoy the benefits they were getting during the French rule.

Media organisations here on Friday received a VCD and a statement purportedly from the Al-Qaida saying it is declaring war on India . The VCD shows a man called Abu Abdul Rehman Ansari, who describes himself as a top member of the terror group.
