Wounded in America Exhibit Coming to Southern California

I received the following in my e-mail a few moments ago and was asked to pass it on and so here it is for you now:Wounded in America is a poignant and thought-provoking photo documentary and oral history project featuring survivors of gun violence and their stories. The San Fernando Valley Brady Campaign Chapter is proud to bring this exhibit to the L.A.-area.Through the stories and pictures, the creators of Wounded in America bring a realistic picture of gun violence and its lasting impacts to viewers of the exhibit. The goal is to spark open discussion that moves us to change our culture of gun violence. Wichita Kansas City Council OKs Smoking Ban, Effective Sept. 2, 2008

This legislation makes it law that beginning September 2, 2008, smoking will be banned in any business that allows people under the age of 18 to walk into their establishment. MIT Creating a Car that Helps Drivers Make Decisions

Called an "Aware Car," this new technology would include mini cameras and infrared lights mounted above the steering wheel which monitor the driver's eye and eyelid movements, wires stored in the console which would monitor the driver's heart rate, blood pressure, and respiration and a device in the trunk which would monitor lane drifting. Real-time data pops up on a backseat computer monitor, all of it stored on a hard drive in the trunk. I think such technology would be a fantastically beneficial one which would serve to save lives, especially as a human being ages and their response time becomes impaired. Now let's see this plus additional safety measures such as the ones racing car drivers presently have on THEIR cars, not only on SUV's, but on ALL types of vehicles as there are too many people dying in driving accidents. Secret Service: No guns allowed at NRA event with John McCain

EXCUSE ME? I simply cannot believe that the NRA didn't call for a massive protest just as soon as they heard that no guns would be allowed inside of the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville. According to an NRA spokesperson, Secret Service members have stepped in and said while firearms will still be allowed in the convention center, they will not be allowed in the Celebration of American Values Forum. But what happened to the part of the Second Amendment that reads, "shall not be infringed?" Guess the NRA is not quite as powerful a gun lobbying group as they want the world to think that they are. Teens speak up against gun violence in their own TV spots

Now we can see and hear how teenagers feel about gun violence as they experienced it for themselves, unfortunately. Two things I wish for:1) These tv spots to be aired all over this planet. 2) To hear/see a child say to their parents, "Now that guns have been outlawed, I feel sorry for all of those poor kids who used to experience gun violence." Think #2 cannot happen, my readers? Well I think it can and it WILL, as we evolve into smarter, more compassionate people who are continually inventing better less lethal weapon technology. Seattle Drunk Driver Calls 911 on Himself

The sad reality of it is that there are many, many people who drive vehicles while intoxicated upon our roads but very, very few have the conscience despite their conditions to call 911 and report themselves for driving drunk.I commend this individual for having made this emergency call, for in doing so not only did he end up saving who knows how many innocent lives, but he made the decision knowing full well that he would be charged with a criminal offense.READ ABOUT THIS HERE

I am thrilled beyond words that President Bush acknowledges America's support of Israel, but I did not like the part of his speech that seemed to single out and put down, "those who advocate negotiations with terrorists and radicals," OR the fact that the media quickly pounced upon it as being "an apparent allusion to the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, who has called for negotiating with Iran." Although I do not yet trust Barack Obama, I do agree with his desire to want to use conflict resolution with any and all of our present enemies rather than march right into a violent confrontation where countless lives can and would be lost in the senseless process that we call war. This is excellent news from my state's Supreme Court !!!!!! I can't say that I'm too surprised, however, since I knew that one day this would happen here. After all, this is California ...a place that I consider to be this country's most tolerant and diverse state. Thus far, 27 states have passed constitutional amendments banning gay marriage in the United States. Hopefully as time goes on and we become more open-minded, there will one day be 50. If I live to be 100 I will never comprehend why Ron Prentice or any other individual would even feel the NEED to stand between two mature human beings who have the desire to legalize their love. This, however, has nothing to do with the fact that I believe that there are many, many rules that are unnecessary to our existence as a FREE-THINKING society and this one is a prime example of one of these rules. When I lived in South Beach, Florida I stood before this sculpture crying my eyes out. In case you can't understand what the photo represents, it depicts the millions of people who had suffered and/or lost their lives during hitler's despicable nazi regime.It is difficult for me to sit here and type these words to you, as not only can't I understand how this took place while so many participated, but I myself have lost some family in this "final solution."Others of my family have escaped during this atrocious time and have been living in Israel, where they've been happy for the most part except for the fear of suicide bombings, of course. No Proof Yet of 11-Year-Old Boy Being Paralyzed Due to Bullying at School

This photo of Matthew is very difficult to look at but if true (as of today it is still under investigation) that he was indeed pushed down the stairs by another child in his school, then the photo should be enlarged and hung up in the bully's juvenile detention bedroom while he is undergoing counseling for his behavior. Oh yes and the bully's family needs to be included in this counseling, as bullies are created and not born. Every single school needs to be addressing bullying by way of classes on the subject as well as keeping a watchful eye out as far as their students' behavior is concerned, via hall monitors, video cameras, etc. Our children need to be kept safe while attending school - not living in fear of their very lives by bullying, weapon use, etc. It is up to US to make certain they are protected.
