2008-08-21 04:53:00 I don't know what happened. It's been over a year since I blogger, but I have the urge to get back into it. A lot has changed in the past year, but that's neither here nor there.I've moved this blog over here. I hope you'll continue to visit.
Well!
2007-07-16 23:41:00 I have so much to say, I don't even know where to begin!Chicks Ahoy! won our first public bout against the Bay Street Bruisers with a score of 131 - 63. It was an incredible experience. I skated in the game with a cracked tailbone - smart, I know, but there was no way I was missing the game - and have minor injuries to show for it. I've done something to my bad knee, but I'll get it checked out. The after party was insane. Awesome, but insane.I got up after about three hours of sleep on Sunday morning to drive out to the Canadian Superbike Championship at Mosport. I felt AWFUL, to say the least, but really wanted to see the racing. It was great, even though we were rained on for quite a while, and I was so excited to see the Women's Cup. Those girls are so cool. I want to race!!And the best part............I had an interview at Yamaha this morning (for my internship) and it went swimmingly. So I'm feeling pretty good. Canada Day
2007-07-01 19:23:00 Happy Canada Day, all! I've been watching the celebrations on CBC and thinking about Canada. On August 3, 1992, I left Chester, a city in the North West of England, for good and arrived in Toronto. I cannot believe it has been almost 15 years since I moved here. I have never been so unhappy about anything in my entire life, but I must say, all these years later, that it was a good decision. While I still feel as though I missed out on a lot, I've been able to do so many things that I never would have even thought of if I'd stayed in the U.K. That being said, my resolve to eventually return home is stronger than ever, but I no longer resent moving to Canada.I finally went to Ireland Park. Spending Friday afternoon there with Caro and Sandra was bittersweet, as Caro moved back to Quebec on Saturday morning, but we had a wonderful time. I spent most of it taking photographs of the statues. Here are a couple of my favourites. If you'd like to see more, there are some posted on my ph... More About: Canada Day

2007-06-26 17:37:00 I have these red hot tickets in my grubby little hands! $10 advance or $15 at the door. Let me know if you're coming and I'll either get them to you in advance or have them waiting at will call. This is going to be a killer bout!
No Tom Cruise
2007-06-26 17:10:00 I knew I liked Germany for a reason.I'm sick. I'm SO sick of getting sick. And my tailbone hurts. I'm staying at home today, working on my client project assignment. I can't even stand the thought of leaving the house, but I'll have to later. It's our first game of the season, ya know, the one I can't play in. More About: Tom Cruise , Cruise
City Chase & Pride
2007-06-22 21:30:00 Happy Pride Week to all! I'll be spending Sunday at my usual camp in the middle of the Buddies in Bad Times beer garden. It's amazing; it's like a once a year unspoken date for all my old friends who don't see each other much anymore. Wonderful. I won't be skating in the parade this year, as I seem to have injured my tailbone. No skating for me for a while, which is really gutting, but Pride will still be fun. It always is.I took the night off work over a year ago but nobody seems to remember, so I may have to cut my Sunday short and go into work, which I'm really not happy about. I have worked the last three Pride Sundays and was really looking forward to having this one to myself to enjoy. Spoke to my instructor, Jessie-May, about internships today and am feeling much better about the situation. We're going to see if I can get in at Canada News Wire, which would be incredible, so I'll keep ya posted on that. It's a busy weekend coming up. Aside from Pride Sunday, I'm doi... 2007-06-20 18:39:00 This Chicks and Dolls fundraiser was a blast. As was the Femme Fatality bout and afterparty the next day. Unfortunately, at practice on Monday night, I did a number on my tailbone and will be unable to play in our first game against the Death Track Dolls next Tuesday. They are our sister team, so I'm really upset that I can't play. I'm waiting on the x-ray results, but either way, the doctor said I have to wait a minimum of six weeks before skating again. That simply isn't going to happen. There is no way I'm not skating in our first public bout against the Bay Street Bruisers on July 14.The ToRD is getting even more coverage. Monday morning had us on Breakfast Television (link goes to their blog post about us), and the same evening, we were on CBC Sports. I haven't found the videos online yet, but will post links when I do.In other news, things are ok. I'm nervously approaching the end of school without knowing where I'm going to do my internship. 2007-06-13 21:45:00 I walked in my door last night and turned on the TV to see myself. MTV shot one of our practices with the Smoke City Betties and aired it on E2 last night. Check this out if you'd like to see me fall down on television! It will play automatically but if you click the little box in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, it will pop out larger. We are really happy with the coverage, it's great promotion for the Toronto Roller Derby League. And here's a little video from our game at Friends and Family Day.Just to remind everyone, the Chicks and Dolls fundraiser is this Friday. It's at the Annex Wreck Room and tickets are $5 at the door. Sons of Cretin and Famous Monsters are playing, and all proceeds go to Chicks Ahoy! and the Death Track Dolls. So come on out and support two great local teams!
What a weekend!
2007-06-13 21:22:00 All I have to say is ... BEST WEEKEND EVER.Went camping with the girls at Mosport and watched SuperMoto racing all weekend. It's so incredible to watch these guys riding dirt bikes with street tires on half dirt, half pavement. I don't know how they can grip the dirt on those things. It's truly awesome to see.It was sad to come home, but I went back up there with Tara yesterday to take a dirt bike course. I was so excited but nervous that I might suck at it and want to go home after crashing a bunch, but it turned out I'm quite good at riding in the dirt. I had the most amazing time of my life, and only crashed once! I have a killer bruise to show for it too!Al from Trail Tours was an excellent instructor and really taught me a lot about riding a dirt bike. In the morning I was nervous to ride over a tree trunk, but by the afternoon I was catching air in the Ganaraska Forest. It's beautiful out there and the trails are endless. It's fantastic.I NEED a dirt bike. I didn't even... More About: Weekend

2007-06-04 19:36:00 I haven't been posting much about roller derby lately, but that's only because I've been so busy with it! We had our first public bout on Saturday, and it was a huge success. The Gore Gore Girls vs. The Death Track Dolls was so much fun and generated a ton of media coverage. We even took over the sports section of the Toronto Sun today. Check it out!I'm quoted in this article by Chicks Ahoy! jammer and CTV journalist Saira Peesker aka Candy Crossbones. And there's a mention of my team's fundraising party that myself and Mistress Nightmare organized for June 15 in this Toronto Star article. Clearly we're becoming superstars!Anyone reading this in Toronto, please come on out in support of the Death Track Dolls and Chicks Ahoy! and party with us at Chicks and Dolls. 2007-06-01 03:00:00 Well, it has been some time since I've updated. Sorry, Deezy! Things have been pretty wacky around here since I got back from Europe. I had a wonderful time over there and am somewhat suffering the post vacation depression. I've also been deathly ill. Well, perhaps not deathly ill, but I had strep throat, which was awful and made me miss a bunch of school. I'm better now but having a really hard time getting back into the swing of things.I never updated on my vacation. Germany was beautiful. We flew into Frankfurt and spent the first couple of days exploring. The city is so clean and it smells of fresh lilacs. From Frankfurt we went to Heidelberg, which is just the most adorable city I've ever been to. It's like a novel. You go up the hill to the old castle and look down upon the most picturesque town in the world. Of course, as is my luck, there was a French festival going on so while we were looking for good German food and beer, there were people dressed as medival French wal...

Leaving Tomorrow
2007-05-01 18:50:00 Well, it's been quite an eventful couple of weeks since I last posted. School was super busy at the end of the semester but I think I pulled through it all quite nicely. I don't know what I got on my final Intro assignment but I did get 90% of my copy editing exam, so I feel pretty good about that. The day I was waiting for finally came. I went to the first ever home game of the Toronto FC, and it was incredible. We didn't win, those sneaky Kansas City Wizards snuck one past Greg Sutton, but the crowd was amazing and we had a blast. I can't wait to go to a lot more games this sumer. I love football. I'm so happy to finally have a home team to support, even if they haven't scored a goal yet. They will. They're a new team and they have been playing stronger every game. The thing that really made Saturday's game was the crowd. I was kind of expecting your typical quiet North American crowd, but the place was full of Brits and Italians, making it insanely rowdy and loud. It was f... Oh, those Russians!
2007-04-18 04:59:00 Just a quick update before I go to bed............... I had my event for school last night. The rest of Team Yellow and myself put on a Pub Quiz at the Hargrave on the Danforth. It went swimmingly, at least we feel that way. It was tons of fun and we raised quite a bit of money for the Mount Sinai Foundation's Highest Priorities project. I hope we get a good mark. I was so relieved it was over that lots of ridiculousness ensued; spilled beer, silly photographs and lots of dancing. Needless to say, this morning was unpleasant, but it was well worth it.I know everyone is talking about the shootings at Virginia Tech . I think it's horrible. It makes me really upset when things like this happen, and unfortunately, they seem to be happening more and more frequently. I wish people would stop blaming the school administration though. While I do think that they could have handled the situation in a more timely fashion, how could they possible be prepared for this. How can you lock down an ... More About: Those , Hose , Russians

I don't know where it went. I'm partly really excited to get going on the new courses in semester two, but I'm also slightly freaked out because this means I'm halfway done school and that much closer to not knowing where I'll be working. I need to figure out where I want to do my internship but I haven't a clue. There are so many interesting looking companies out there and I want to make sure I pick the right one.I just picked up my plane tickets to Europe. I'm leaving in eighteen days. I also picked up a German phrasebook. I figure if I want to try all their neat-o beers I'm going to have to learn how to ask nicely. My flight time has changed, which I'm not too happy about. 2007-04-09 20:23:00 Less than one month until I fly to Germany! I'm quite excited, although it doesn't really feel real yet. I'm sure it will when I come home to an empty bank account.Things are good though; semester one is almost over and I think I'm doing quite well in school. I'm still enjoying it and I'm not behind like I was afraid I was going to be. I went to Buffalo with the girls again on Thursday and had a blast. The Queen City Rollergirls have a really nice rink. It still has the original floor from the 1930s and it sounds lovely. It's much better than the rinks we skate at. We're going to go down within the next few weeks and skate with them, so I'm looking forward to that. I love going to the States........one reason being, the 12 pack of Smithwicks I bought today cost me $24 and in Buffalo it only cost $12! The exchange is great right now too; it only cost me $116 for US $100.I got a new toy yesterday. I've been wanting a new bicycle forever and I found this one at Good will for $... 2007-03-29 03:53:00 It's been so long since I updated, I barely remember! Well, not really, but it's been a while for me. Let's see..............what's new?I'm uber excited about going back to Europe. As much as I'm dying to go to Germany and see things I've never seen before, I'm really just happy to go back to Ireland and spend time on the farm. I leave in 35 days.School is getting a bit overwhelming. I'm still really enjoying it, but I feel as though I might be in slightly over my head. Perhaps I'm just saying that because I've been really busy this week and haven't had as much time to dedicate to my work, but perhaps I'm saying it because I just spent eight hours working on an assignment for my business class and I'm still not entirely sure I did it right. That class is getting to be the bane of my existance. However, I had another test in it last week and I got a B on it, so that's good.Feeling deserving of a break, I took last Friday night of work and went to Buffalo with the rolle... Six weeks to go!
2007-03-18 09:25:00 I've done something very financially irresponsible and I'm very happy about it! I'm happy to announce that I'm going to Europe again. On May 2 I will be flying to Frankfurt, Germany, where I will explore for a couple of days before heading to Cologne. From Cologne, I'll be flying to my beloved Dublin, Ireland and then driving to the beautiful west coast to relax in Co. Mayo. From there, I'll spend a couple of days in Dublin and then come home to begin the second semester of school.I can't believe that there are only six weeks left in first semester. Sometimes it really feels like I just started. This program is flying by. There is a lot of work, but it's so worth it. However, I think that come May, I'll be fully deserving of my vacation:) I suppose I'd better get on with learning some German. That's it for now. Good night! More About: Week , Weeks
Marks are in!
2007-03-14 02:54:00 Day two, only nine weeks to go until the end of Semester One. I got a bunch of work back today, some I am happy with the results, some I am not. I wrote an analysis of our latest guest speaker in my Media Relations class a couple of weeks ago and received it back with a less than satisfactory mark on it today. Then I had a huge test, but I think I did fairly well on the test. Things started looking up in graphics class. I've never had any experience with graphic design before but got my big project (worth 20%, I think) back with an A on it! When I figure out how to turn a Quark file into a .jpg, I'll post the poster and tickets I made. I did it for an imaginary moped rally so I'm hanging on to it in case the RCMP does throw one. Later on in class, I finished my current assignment and got an A on that. I also got one for a news release I did for my PR Writing class. So all in all it was a good day, although very full. I passed out on my couch for two full hours when I got home.I'... More About: Mark , Marks
Back to School
2007-03-13 02:19:00 March break is over. It's a little sad but frankly, after a more than stressful weekend both at home and at work, I'm happy to get back to school and get on with it. Waking up this morning was another story, though. With the time changing on Saturday, I went to bed exceptionally late and slept through most of Sunday so getting up this morning was a chore. It was still very dark outside, which I really don't like. But then again, I don't know anybody who does.My assigned team did our presentation today in Canadian Business Practices class. I think it went quite well. Our assignment was to present a seminar on something in the tenth chapter of Canadian Business Essentials. We chose to do ours on how marketing affects comsumer behaviour and targeted our case study towards the tween market. I think we presented a well thought out overview of the subject and we even did a little skit involving three of us playing impressionable young girls and one sleazy "Marketor" (insert evil laugh... 2007-03-08 06:59:00 I think the new Molson Canadian ad is fairly stupid. Actually, I think it's very stupid. However, I do find it funny that one of the lines in it is "They care about marmalade ... and roller derby."Michael Specter of the New York Times was on the Colbert Report tonight. I thought the conversation was really interesting; partly because I'm interested in Russian politics and partly because I didn't know the extent of the "suicidal" journalist problem. I find all these murders extremely unsettling. I'm glad he said he doesn't sleep in the same place twice in a row, because I'm sure Putin loves him extra after tonight's show.Reading week is going well, although I spent the afternoon at school today working on a project anyway. My only complaint is that it's going too fast. I've been busy almost every day and tomorrow I'm heading out of town. Unlawful Accommodation of Donkeys
2007-03-02 05:20:00 I do have more useful things to post, but first let's take a look at this article from today's Galway First. Oh my. Man caught in hotel room dressed in latex and shacked up with a donkey. Humans never cease to amaze me. What does amaze me is that the defendant told the hotel receptionist the donkey was a family pet, a "super rabbit" that he was bringing to a pet fair in the city. And the very fact that there is an "Unlawful Accommodation of Donkey s Act 1937" almost made me die from laughter.I got the results of my dreaded business test back today. I got a B+ on it so I'm quite happy with that. Ordinarily, I would really want an A but I have to admit I'm struggling in this class. I have so much trouble retaining the information. I also had a feedback session with the program coordinator, which went very well. The feedback I received from all my instructors was positive and I'm feeling really good about school. Winter
2007-02-26 19:09:00 I'm very sore from yesterday's practice. I woke up feeling as though I had been mauled by a large animal. Or something to that effect, since I have never actually been mauled by an animal and therefore don't know exactly what if feels like. Either way, I feel very stiff and achy. I also feel great! Practice was brilliant! The combination of pain and winter have forced me to declare today a "no pants / snow" day. I am not leaving my house under any circumstances. A sign?
2007-02-26 04:59:00 Before I started work last night I was outside talking to a friend about those internships abroad that I've been thinking about. Then I went in to start work, but as I was standing alone thinking about the Mongolian opportunity I posted about yesterday, I saw a piece of crumpled up paper on the floor of the bar. Obviously, my first thought was, "maybe it's money." So I picked it up and unfolded it. It was money. MONGOLIAN MONEY. What are the freaking chances of that? It was a 20 Tugrik note, worth approximately $0.20 Canadian dollars. Now I'm much more of a believer in coincidence than signs, but this one takes the cake. I have now decided. Sometime in the next few years, I am going to go to experience life in Ulaanbaatar and work as a journalist for the Ulaanbaatar Post or the English language radio station for a month or two. Practice with the Chicks today was amazing. We have three new girls on the team and they are all incredible. I have been jamming a lot at practice lately ... More About: Sign

Ireland (23) 43 England (3) 13
More articles from this author:2007-02-24 21:24:00 The match is over and it couldn't have been played better on the part of the Irish team. Despite the emotional nature of the game and their loss to France two weeks ago, they absolutely walloped the English at Croke Park. Here's the BBC report. I usually back up England but given the circumstances of this match I was really gunning for an Irish win. Things seemed to go fairly smoothly outside the park, with minor protests happening but not too much drama. I had a fairly decent night at work. I was really tired but the time passed quickly enough. I had a minor skirmish with a drunken sorority girl at the end of my shift but I called in security and she was removed quickly enough. I can usually deal with the people at the end of the night easily enough, but this girl was really pushing my buttons. I'm sure she won't remember anything today, but it was very annoying. That's what you get for working at a bar though; these things are to be expected. I've been trying to avoid commen... More About: Ireland , Land , Elan 1, 2, 3 |
