IRAQ: 4TH YEAR
2007-03-19 22:58:00 After reading President´s Bush statement on the fourth anniversary of that bloody craziness called ?Invasion of Iraq ? today and after registering once more his recycling of the same words, namely that ?there´s been good progress?, I see a stronger need to continue efforts on all levels not just to stop war right away but basically to seriously consider the prospect of an International Criminal Court investigation READ ON?. THE UNBEARABLE REALITY
2007-03-01 08:05:00 Jon Stewart´s comment last night on Iraq and Laura Bush´s most recent statement really made me think. Real ity might be unbearable for us to see, but it will never be as unbearable as it is for those who live it. Laura Bush (To CNN): "Many parts of Iraq are stabled. But of course what we see on Television… one bomb in a day discourages everybody". Jon Stewart: "I know how discouraging it is!!!… For you to watch it. Do you know where else it is somewhat discouraging?... At the site of the bombing!!" More About: The U , Arab , Bear
TO MY FRIENDS
2007-02-27 21:07:00 Five months ago today I started writing here. I know that this period of time might be a little thing to some of you guys who have been in the blog sphere longer than that but in my case I think it is really significant. Basically because it has not been easy for me to register practically day by day "today´s political craziness", for want of a better term. In all honesty some times political reality is simply unbearable and I feel just like giving up and going voluntarily into the madhouse, as the poet says. But I won´t do it... at least not for a while. In the long run, I have always thought that to get informed is just the first step on any journey towards real liberation. Anyways, this just to let you guys know that, even when you don´t know it (and I am not very good at expressing it either) both your visits and your comments always make my day: THANK YOU!!! ZARATHUSTRA´S LAST DISCOURSE
2007-02-24 06:04:00 As it is known, German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche is considered, along with Karl Marx and Sigmund Freud, one of the most important thinkers of modern western thought: one of its sharpest critics. It is also known that Thus Spoke Zara thustra is one his most important pieces of work: his ultimate achievement and also his most famous writing. Zarathustra gives an account of a young Persian man who faces an important task: to reveal or to make men recall the truth about themselves and their own possibilities. While carrying out his mission, this hero of thought experiences himself deep inner crises and changes of heart that make him become, in the end, the kind of man he claims men should endeavor to be. Recently, it was made public an unpublished handwriting that could be, according to experts, the original version of Zarathustra´s chapter devoted to “Women”. A chapter that Nietzsche presumably must have decided to change after a love deception but that was kept int... More About: Last , Course , Stra

WHAT IS WAR?
2007-02-19 23:17:00 Yesterday night, after having watched the video below with one of my best friends, I kept on thinking of words and their possible meanings but especially, the concrete reality they refer to: what some call “the real meaning behind words”. How many times do we talk about something without really knowing what we are referring to? How many times do we believe we know what we are talking about but our knowledge does not really correspond to the reality we are referring? The words “War in Iraq” refer to a reality impossible to tolerate and that most of us are opposed to and yet I think we still remain so far from understanding. This video, 1 hour long, contributes to form a more solid judgment about this craziness, beyond the corporate media image we might have. Once we finished watching the video, my friend looked at me and asked: “What can we do about it?” I stared at her for a moment and responded: “I think we have just started doing it”. More About: Hat

BEAUTY IN RED
2007-02-14 07:00:00 To YOU Some time ago, I met a girl, a little girl living inside a woman´s body, little and beautiful… impressive!!! Despite her beauty, the first thing that caught my attention was the fact that when she said something, she did not really talk but gave signs. There were many people who used to make fun of her and walk out because they thought she was deaf-mute. But after some time, those who held on ended up believing that she was some sort of woman prodigy. There was even some little, more inquisitive, who assured that she could be an angel as she talked as one of them. In my case, whenever she was to convey something, I used to pay attention to her very attentively. As the time passed by, more and more people gathered together to listen to her message. In spite of the fact that most people did not seem to fully understand her expressions, everybody around her was enchanted and thankful for her beauty and grace and, above all, for her way of smiling, simple and jo... WORLD PRESS PHOTO 2007
2007-02-10 01:56:00 American photographer Spencer Platt´s photo (above) was selected today as the World Press Photo of the year 2006. The photo shows young Lebanese driving through the streets of Lebanon after the Israel-Lebanon ceasefire took hold last August 14th. WPP SITE At You Tube you can download two very interesting videos showing some of the best press photos of all times. Most of the photos presented there are highly disturbing. I think those photos per se are beautiful but the aspects of reality they refer are just impossible to tolerate. They did break my heart into pieces. WAXMAN: WASTE, FRAUD AND ABUSE IN IRAQ
2007-02-08 11:24:00 Last Tuesday, the Oversight Committee of the U. S. Congress began a series of hearings on waste, fraud and abuse in Iraq of taxpayers’ money, focused mainly on Iraqi reconstruction, Homeland Security contracting, and prescription drug pricing. The hearings will finish tomorrow. In his opening remarks that day, Chairman Henry Waxman stated that the war in Iraq has given private contractors an “unprecedented role” in providing services, even when it is been next to impossible sorting out overhead, subcontracts, sub-subcontracts, profit, and performance.Who do you think those “private contractors” are? OPEN LETTER TO FELIPE CALDERON
2007-02-01 06:13:00 Felipe:Two Months ago today you took office as “President" of Mexico as a result of a monumental fraud where, according to specialist, 3,700,000 votes were illegitimately inserted into the election result to make you win by less than half a percentage point (250,000 votes). As if you were looking for revenge against the nation who didn´t vote for you, since the very first day you have made important efforts to show your discontent. After 60 days of your administration, the result could not be more harmful: basic foods such as milk, eggs and tortillas have nearly doubled their price; you have promoted budget cuts in education and health care and well, the minimum wage was raised in 20 cents on the dollar!! Come on, man!Today, thousands of people marched in major cities all across the country to show you that they are not happy either. It must be said in passing I share their discontent. I hope you get the message!Your friendZHPP. S.At the beginning, I didn´t know that by saying â€... More About: Open , Letter , Felipe Calderon , Open Letter , Felipe
FEINGOLD: CONGRESS´S DUTY
2007-01-31 06:57:00 Today, in his opening remarks at a Judiciary Committee hearing on "Congress ´s power to end a war", U. S. Senator Russ Feingold , supported by a panel of legal experts, made a call to Congress to assume its responsibility as a co-equal branch of government and use its power to end the war in Iraq:"Since the President is adamant about pursuing his failed policies in Iraq, Congress has the duty to stand up and use its power to stop him. If Congress doesn’t stop this war, it’s not because it doesn’t have the power. It’s because it doesn’t have the will". READ ON… MORE INFO… More About: Gold , Essa , Duty
STOP ESCALATION
2007-01-30 08:43:00 A new television advertisement against the President Bush´s escalation of the war in Iraq was launched yesterday by VoteVets.org. Below, VV Chairman Jon Soltz gives his take on this topic from a soldier´s view:“When you have 120,000 American troops in a country of 26 million, 20,000 more it is kind of like.. spit in the ocean. It´s not really gonna make a difference. It´s just gonna lead the 20,000 more troops get shot at… because there is no strategy…” More About: Stop , Esca
EDUCATION TODAY
2007-01-30 03:07:00 Some days ago, NeRaK wrote an interesting comment about one of my previous posts. She ended up her comment wondering if a revolution in Mexico is going to take place as some proclaim today. I answered that a revolution, in terms of "violent popular movement", was not just a remote possibility but undesired at any rate. We do need a change, a significant change, but as somebody recently stated: Mexico today is a sort of a situation where you have a guy who drove the bus into the ditch. We obviously have to get the bus out of the ditch and that is not easy to do… although we should probably fire the driver. As I have said before, I think that right now one of the most important things we should be working on is education. In Mexico, according to official data, 8% out of the population are illiterate and 40% has only elementary level of education. What we are saying here is that nearly half of the Mexican population have 6 years of instruction or less, or nothing at all. However, the ma... More About: Education , Cat , Today , Ducati , Duca

2007-01-26 18:58:00 It has already been announced the celebration of The XXII World Congress of Phil osophy to be held from July 30 to August 5, 2008 in Seoul, Korea. The World Congresses of Philosophy are organized every five years by the International Federation of Philosophical Societies (FISP) which counts among its members nearly 100 philosophical societies from all around the world. This major event, considered “the Philosopher´s World Cup”, will have as its main theme “Rethinking Philosophy Today ”. “With this theme we hope to have –said organizers, renewed reflections of the nature, scope, and function of philosophy in an increasingly multicultural, globalized, and techno-scientific age”.Given its critical nature, Philosophy has a tremendous role to play as one of the cornerstones of the general formation of citizenship and real democracy. NADER: MISLEADING EUPHEMISMS
2007-01-23 02:51:00 Ralph Nade r, 4-time U. S. presidential candidate, wrote an open letter to President Bush last Friday. In his letter, Nader reflects on the real meaning behind one of Bush´s expressions in his last address to the nation on Iraq where he alludes to his own responsibility “where mistakes have been made”.Nader asks President Bush:“You say where mistakes have been made, the responsibility rests with me. You then quickly change the subject. Whoa now, what does it mean when you say the responsibility for mistakes rest with you?” FULL TEXT More About: Leading , Lead , Euph
BUSH-ING
2006-11-12 07:00:00 President Fox "bushed it up" once again in a recent interview with the broadcast television network Telemundo. Off the record he said that "nothing really matters as he is about to be leaving office". The exact words were:"... I can speak freely now... I can say any stupid thing I want... I don´t give a damn... as I am leaving office".The thing is not so much that he is still the President but, that he´s kept the same attitude for the last two years, with disastrous consecuences.
